It's yah boi Sven, and welcome to my channel, where I fish and give you my thoughts as I'm trying to catch interesting, beautiful, and even silly fishes that California has to offer!
I've always wanted to start a fishing vlog but shut myself down for years for the worst reasons (no one is going to watch, this isn't going to go anywhere, you can't talk on film, etc.). After I met my wife Amber, she encouraged me to follow this passion and give the good ole Sven attempt. From then on, she also made me realized that I was too stuck in my mindset focusing on what others wanted, and not enough of what I want! This channel will be my token of appreciation to her, myself, and hopefully, you guys too!
My content will consist mainly of fishing vlogs where I explore places near or far, see what I can catch, and give tips and tricks I've learned throughout my years of fishing.
If this sounds interesting, come fish and chill with me, subscribe so we can explore and learn together!
Cheers,
Sven

Blah Blah Blah Jetty Fishing ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ, A Non-Announcement, Seal Beach, CA!
In this video, I go jetty fishing out in Seal Beach CA! I've been gone for a while, so here's a quick non-announcement as to where I've been lol. Keeping it simple, main focus was catching some fish since it's been forever since I had a chance to go work, short vidya, just enjoy :P
This is also going to be a Q and A vidya, so leave your questions for me in the comments down below, if yah wanna at least haha
Timestamps: For Your Convenience :) - Such a short vidya, don't think it's necessary for now, enjoy the chaos lol
#firstfishfreedom The basis for this tradition is to release the first fish you catch, regardless of what it is (prized, PB, good eats, maybe even world record someday haha). I will only keep the first fish if it is gravely wounded or gut shotted (and a species I can legally keep). If I keep the first fish, then I will pass on the tradition to the second fish, and so forth. Any day of fishing is a blessing, catching a fish is another blessing on top of that, so I want to return that blessing and luck back to the fish, so they may live another day, get bigger, and maybe I catch them again in the future c:

The Sven is a custom rod Amber got for me, still one of my favorite rods o3o
amzn.to/3K7tq9C (Penn Conflict II 4000, you can choose different sizes as needed, overall great saltwater reel, very smooth cast and reeling!)
amzn.to/3aSw9V2 (I normally use braided, my default line for general purpose is 20 lb Power Pro Spectra Braided Line, Moss Green. Choose the lb you need for what you're targeting, but you can never go wrong with this brand).
amzn.to/3vCCgGX (Fishing Bait Thread, very helpful for securing non-sturdy baits to your hook, highly recommended if you use bait such as mussels and ghost shrimp!)
amzn.to/4bPQPuT (Polarized Sunglasses: These are the sunglasses I usually pick up, I normally get a 2 pack c: polarized sunglasses are convenient for cutting the glare from the water, so you can see your fishing zone more clearly c: they're also pretty affordable, which is nice because I misplace mine all the time, I wouldn't be surprised if y'all have found a pair that I've forgotten behind in my usual fishing areas haha)
amzn.to/3RiPbJY (GoPro Hero 11 Black: The GoPro I'm currently using, has a lot more features than I normally use but it's pretty neat, the video stabilization option is very nice though, keeps the vidya pretty streamlined :D!)

That's helpful. What kind of rig do you put them on?
That's a nice one there Sven
Can go wrong with a legal calico any day 😂
@@SvenGoesFishing better than a legal there... very nice
Where was that? I’m thinking about doing some rocky surf fishing myself soon in socal. Dana point?
Yeah Dana point, just bring extra tackle 😂
Great video! Wow, you literally caught 16 of them plus some cool fish! I actually have a video on my channel where I caught staghorn sculpins using dip nets and man... it wasn't easy. I love that you're having fun with them and making the most of it!
Oh yeah there were definitely a lot of them, plus for me it’s just fun to catch fish, doesn’t matter if you’re dinky 😂 already out there and catching something, better than not being out there or catching nothing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@SvenGoesFishing Haha real talk right there!
Most of Palos Verdes is a nature preserve, im guessing they dont bother you
As long as you’re fishing in a spot that isn’t restricted, most they would do is a license check 😁
Where did you guys fish from?
It loooks like a plastic bag
Kinda does, but at least you can eat this one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
wake up n run, lol
Yep that was a good nap, time to swimmy away
@@SvenGoesFishing Pretty much, lol
Or maybe he forgot I released him 😂
Did me a concern for a moment there.
Fish do that when theyre in shock from being hooked
He probably forgot I released him ;D
ua-cam.com/users/shortsA-hJxM_aM38?si=BbPceS0TjzD8FR-R
Gotta get the dinks to eventually catch that big one!! At least you're getting action... i was at the bay today and the fish were acting weird and didn't even look at my bait a lot of the time
I feel that, the fishing activity has been kinda wonky lately :O
@@SvenGoesFishing haven't caught a fish bigger than my hand for a few weeks 😭
That’s alright, fishing do be like that sometimes, it’ll get better ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nah bros stuck in the pass with those dumb ass uwu owo type shit stay safe stay straight
Nah bro I’m just old school, plus I agree that the uwu and owo era was so dumb that it’s still funny to me haha, also don’t worry safety is always the number one priority c: have a great uwu day my friend ;)
That female was turning male
Yes it was :D! Very cool to see it happening c:
lol... good times
Can’t go wrong with opaleyes, even if they’re super dinky and you need a big one 😂
@@SvenGoesFishing caught a couple dinks myself today, lol
@werftv4580 I’ve caught none today because I have work ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
@@SvenGoesFishing better get to the labor then.. lol.. just ended my overtime stint.. 12 days I think .. ew.. lol
Sounds like you gotta utilize some vacation time Werf ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ a whole month of fishing let’s goooo
Definitely need someone to show me how to catch some saltwater fish! I’m near Dana point and can not hook a thing for the life of me
That’s alright, fishing really be like that sometimes haha, I still struggle with getting freshwater fishing down at times but that’s the fun part about fishing, tryna figure things out c: one think I would recommend for saltwater fishing is to first go for the dinky bois. The jetties around Dana point are actually one of my favorites, shrimp is a good general purpose bait that will catch a lot of species in our waters :D! When you’re out in the jetty, you don’t always have to cast very far, fish like to hang around structure so you could just cast a bit after the last submerged rock you see, if you want to go the bobber route, I like to use a weighted bobber to help with casting, have it about 3-5 ft above your hook, use a small hook like size 8-12 paired with a small piece of shrimp, and add a small split shot about 1 ft above your hook to help weight down your rig in the strike zone. There’s usually plenty of dinky bois always around so the nibbles should be relatively soon, if you don’t get nibbles at all then just move down like 10-20 ft further down the jetty and try again c: good luck the next time you go, let minnow if you have any further fishing related questions, always happy to help 😁
Where did you get your shrimp the bait?
I like to pick up my shrimp from Asian supermarkets, the ones with the ice bins in the seafood section. That’s my preferred shrimp as it is the most intact with the head and shell still on c: I like to think it holds the most shrompy scent until it’s time to use, plus it usually goes for like 5 dollars a pound, and I will only ever need half a pound at most for a fishing session :D!
"You wish" was funny 😂
It be like that sometimes 😂
Still counts as a catch though! Nice one
Always fun to catch them c:
@@SvenGoesFishing Yup!
😁
My most dangerous jetty has to be Dana points long jetty.. it’s a pretty tall jetty and I’ve seen the waves go over the jetty like it’s nothing 😅
I can agree with you there, sometimes the waves can be pretty spooky over there, even if it’s nothing to drastic, the water on the ocean side moves really quick D:!
Are they edible
Very good eating fish 😁 there’s plenty of dinky bois, I’d like to say when they get to 8-10 inches, that’s a good size to eat c:
I don’t like your measurement, but I understand it
Yeah he was probably closer to 6 in 😅 but I was still looking for a bigger boi c: let this dinky guy go to continue doing fish things
Ohh need to get ya an ultralight setup or if you got one already it's sooo fun to fight little opaleye on the ultralight
Oh yeah definitely, I went way overboard with my setup for the opaleyes 😂
Yes another short
Anotha oneeeee
ah, the opaleye...
Opal-boisssss
@@SvenGoesFishing The fish with an eye an actress would K1l1 for.. hahaha...
@werftv4580 they are the beautifuliest eyes 👀
@@SvenGoesFishing not wrong there
Isn't that like a guppie in the ocean? 😂😂😂
It’s the guppiest 😁
get em dude
Gottem good 😂
Going on the jetty that same one two days
Heck yeah :D! It’s a fun jetty to fish, the water is usually pretty deep so there’s a lot of fish that like to hide close the the rocks so you don’t have to cast very far c: if you plan to fish close to the rocks, I highly recommend torpedo sinkers or similar weights, the slender shape will help you get out of the rocks if the waves happen to push it too close c: good luck out there ᐠ( ᐛ )ᐟ
@@SvenGoesFishing i am using a shirmp lure
Let minnow how that goes, I haven’t tried using a shrimp lure yet, but that’s also because I mainly stick with shrimp itself 😂
i will try to get a keeper 😃
Great video! My kids and I are beginners and want to give it a shot. We saw your tips on shrimp and torpedo weights as well as the fishing thread thank you. Any recommendations on time of day for most bites ?
Glad you enjoy the vidya John :D! The general rule of thumb of best time to fish is between 2 hrs before peak high tide through 2 hrs after c: this is mainly because a lot of fish find more food that might be on the sand or not in the splash zone, inaccessible to them until the tide rises and washes it down into the water. Another good time to fish is the first few hours around sunrise, some species go a bit more dormant at night and start doing their thing again once the sun comes up, the same can be said on the opposite side for fishing around sunset. Personally, I would say the best time to go fishing is whenever you have time to get out there to fish :D! My schedule is quite hectic so I honestly don’t look at the tides anymore, whenever I have a window of opportunity to get out to the water I just take it as it is, even if the tides are not in my favor ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ With that said, I will say that some of the nicest unexpected fish I’ve caught have been just as the sun is about to set ᐠ( ᐛ )ᐟ Squib is also a great bait to have as another general purpose beginner bait if you don’t have shrimp, and it’s usually pretty sturdy so you won’t need the bait thread, but if you happen to have both, a high low rig with 2 size 6 hooks combo-ed will catch you a lot of species overall. Let minnow if you have any further fishing related questions, always happy to help c:
shower time!!!
Ocean said I was too stinky 😂
Opaleye are awesome for sure
Very neat fish to catch, such beautiful eyes c:
good old opaleye... lol
Can’t go wrong with opaleyes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That first “Woah” sounded like Peter Griffin 😂
How do we know it wasn’t actually Peter griffin hmm? 🤔
Great video dudes! Appreciate the catch-and-release and also appreciate you throwing them back 💪
Thanks Jake :D I fish catch and release more often than not, the only time I plan to keep is if the fish is too injured, I’ve already decided on doing a catch and cook, or I catch a nice fish I can bring back home for my folks c: other than those reasons I just like to fish, I will always prefer to see what’s out there and put them back to let them continue to do fosh things xD
What kinda bait do you use on your rigg
More often than not, I’m probably using shrimp 😂 it’s my go to bait all the time
5 inches is HUGE. idk what you are talking about, bro 😅
You right, the ones I usually catch in SoCal tend to be around that size, but I was planning for a catch and cook and trying to get one a tad bigger, rather let the little ones go free since they still have their whole lives ahead of them c:
Love the text emoji, my man bringing it back
Thanks David :D! I’m a tad old school, reminds me of the days when we were all using it during my time in middle and high school 😂 they’re a classic c:
@SvenGoesFishing it was so much fun then now honestly xD
It rly was, there’s always something more new now that I can’t keep up 😂
He’s back!
Doing the best I can when I have time 😂
@@SvenGoesFishing please do some more videos in Dana point and Oceanside! I fish those areas a lot and you always catch spot of fish!
Well I will say this, I’ll try to upload more videos when I can for sure, but for the most part fishing isn’t always guaranteed. The thing with probably every fishing content creator is that we only upload the best catches or when we do catch something, it doesn’t account for many times we go on a trip and leave empty handed 😂 there have been many instances where I’ve fished for 12 hrs straight without a catch and it rly can be like that sometimes, it’s rather hard to make a video if nothing is going on. But my main point is I just like to fish, I approach it in a way where I’m just out there to enjoy the view and relax, listen to the waves and focus on the peace, if a fish bites that’s just an added bonus c: with that said, it doesn’t mean you can do things to increase your odds of catching something but it’s also good accepting that sometimes the fish just aren’t biting that spot or that day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ always happy to answer any fishing related questions though :D!
@@SvenGoesFishing Hey, I really appreciate your comment. Fishing is hard and I am trying to make fishing videos on my channel too. Every time I bring my GoPro I don’t catch anything. The fresh waters lakes close to me in LN suck. I skunk like 50 percent of the time if not more. I am on the Dana Pride rn and got 2 nice fish, but I don’t have my camera 😂. I have pictures tho so I might make a UA-cam short.
@HudX26 yeah I’m not the biggest fan of freshwater fishing, got nothing against it but I’m always more inclined to head back to the coast 😂
I’m going on the Dana wharf twilight for the first time next Friday, do you have any tips as far as size hooks and weights sizes? It would greatly be appreciated
It would depending what your charter might be targeting for, they may have live bait so for that I would recommend a size 2 or bigger hook, with a 1 or 2 oz egg sinker. Sometimes that doesn’t pan out, if that’s the case I always enjoy using a high low rig with a size 4-2 hook paired with the squid they provide. Use at least a 4 oz torpedo so it doesn’t sway too much, and you can fish all the way at the bottom, or after you hit bottom just crank up 1-5 times for different depths. The captain will provide you supplemental information at every spot you stop at to give you a general idea for what you can or should target c: you can definitely bring your own bait as well, I would recommend shrimp because I always like using shrimp, or anchovies as you don’t have to cast it, just drop it down, good luck! Let minnow how it goes :D!
@@SvenGoesFishing no luck with bottom fishing the whole boat basically struck out but we did catch lots of bass and barracuda and some Macs. Overall fun experience and someone caught a huge Black Sea bass he battled it for a good 30 minutes lol
Aww oh well, it be like that sometimes, but on the bright side there were only cool fish out there c:
Niiice one!! Idk how you lip those they never let me lip em i try to take a picture and they just jump and swim away 😂
I mean overall, a lot of fish won’t like it when you lip them 😂 but this guy was pretty calm, and I definitely won’t complain with having a non wiggly boi c:
nice Opaleye❤❤
Thanks :D! He was a good sized one c:
Ooooooo
:D!
That was a huge wave lol glad you’re safe bro those rocks are sketch. Cool clip btw
Thanks :D! Yeah they were pretty sketch, I should have backed away sooner 😂
What jetty is that?
This was out in Carlsbad c:
I wanted to see the BONK ! 😂
I usually steer away from displaying the bonk, not because there’s something wrong with it, I just feel like it’s not necessary ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Good job on the C&R but sheephead are pretty hardy fish and trying to get close to the water with the waves crashing in like that could have been dangerous, you could probably just throw it back without too much harm
Very true, personal safety is always the better option, I did get a tad soaked 😂
Croakers are real good to use on a Halibut rig…
I’ve heard :D! Personally I would prefer to just let the small ones go though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
First! The waves have been crazy fr recently 😂
That’s why it’s always good to be careful c: gotta watch out for conditions like these 😂
What jetty’s is this if you don’t mind me asking?
This jetty is down in Oceanside :D!

@bafirewrestler no problem, just be careful when out there, the waves are no joke sometimes D:!
