Beautiful technique. Thank you ❤
Great video , thank you. ❤
Thank you
Just soak in 100% acetone nail polish remover in little shot glass twisting back & forth wiring with paper towels rinsing soap & water
For this particular technique you don't want to clean the silicon completely off the brush. Once the silicon goes into the bristles, it creates a stiff but slightly flexible glue spreader. The glue spreaders that you can buy for purpose are either too rigid or too floppy. Of course this may not work for all techniques but for this technique, over 20 years, I've found this the best way for this technique.
What glue do you use
The information about the tools and the glue is in video number one of this set. This is a full course starting from one through to 19 shows you the whole technique step-by-step. I use clear silicone sealant.
Thanks for great testing!
Help 😢. This has been so helpful, but How did you prepare your mirror? What did you use to back it up?
I'm not sure what you mean when you ask "How did I back it up?" You buy good quality new mirror don't use old.
Great experiment ! Thank you
Excellent tutorial.❤
Thank you! 😊
Will grozing pliers work to take the shard off? Thank you.😊
I'm sure they will. I've never really got on with mine, but if you have them, give it a go.
How easy you make this look..❤❤❤
I admit it does take some practice
Elegant. Thank you for this perfect video.❤
You are so welcome!
How did you cut the stems im struggling so much cutting this glass
Beautiful! What kind of glue do you use?
Silicone
Hi Sue, how do you clean the silicone off your brush?
This clip shows how I cut off the excess. ua-cam.com/video/bcr-dD74LDs/v-deo.htmlsi=Tur-Yx27nNaozgKO
Like someone commented, absolutely stunning Sue.
Thoroughly enjoy the video and I am starting on pieces now. What is the foam type you lay the glass pieces out on before transferring to the glass please
I cover my tables with the underlay for laminate flooring which is the white table covering you can see in the video.
Hi Sue, How do you clean the silicone out of the brush?
It is pretty, but what do you do with it. Kind of small to be on a wall.
Excellent information, I love the testing.
Hi Sue, may I ask where I can buy the gold glass on the first image of the feather please. I’ve been wanting some for years. I used to buy a gold mirror glass but it hasn’t been available for years as far as I know so I would really appreciate any help in sourcing some gold shiny glass … thank you for the wonderful video it’s so helpful. I took a weekend class with you years ago which I enjoyed so much! I haven’t stopped making since… x
Thankyou for this informative video on how to glue stained glass nasturtiums to build a garden mosaic. Pretty excellent tutorials. Good recommendation from UA-cam, I liked it.
Splendid work!!!!❤
Absolutely beautiful... at the beginning i thought the piece was small but against the tree it is quite a bit larger. What size approximately was the finished piece?
You can make any shape or size but this one is 12x76cm
What kind of glue
Everything including glue and tools is explained in the first video of this course, 1 of 19. If using mirror you can use silicone but don’t use silicone on a clear glass base.
How do you cut your little glass pieces without scoring ?
If you watch no. 1 of 19 of this same playlist that shows you the different tools and how to use each one. You can use either glass scorer or wheeled mosaic nippers
So happy I found your well done and informative videos. Thanks so much for your instructions. I am very new and this helps a lot.
You are so welcome!
thank you so much for these videos!!!! Your voice is so nice, and your explanations so simple. thank you for that too ☺ ☺
Ah bless you, thank you. I hope you find them useful. ❤
Wow this is absolutely beautiful!! I am brand new to this art and your channel and I sooooo enjoyed the entire process of you creating this beautiful mosaic. I am truly in awe ! Thank you so much for making all these videos .. can't tell you how happy I am to have found you 💜🤗🤗🤗
Ah thank you. I hope you find it useful. Sue
what kind of tape?
In England we call it Masking Tape, it is the tape that house painters use to mask off an area.
Sorry to be a pain but I'm unable to see properly. I understand gorilla glue clear is best. But which silicone one tuened out best please?
I didn’t test silicone. This is a glass on clear glass (GOG) or clear acrylic adhesive test, which country are you in?
@@SueSmithGlassMosaics Oh sorry , that'll teach me for not paying attention 😂 I'm uk based
Not a problem, the silicone, which I only use on mirror and non-transparent bases, like fibreglass, bowling balls, I use Everbuild general purpose, but also Sudal make one that is recommended. I saw the other build in my online shop. But if you’re not sure run the same test using using silicones and see which one comes out best, or just test one silicone instead of having to buy several of them.
@@SueSmithGlassMosaics Thankyou Sue , Very much appreciated 😀
@@Lorraines3DPrints you can buy the silicon I use in B & M stores, Amazon and most DIY
Thank you for sharing your findings. A very good experiment. :)
I have heard that Gorilla Glue caused the substrate to break after a while-- not sure but we were warned about it. Of course there are many types of Gorilla glue now.
It does need to be this particular one as they make so many different types. This adhesive, even dry retains flexibility so will allow the glass to expand and contract in heat and cold but, using anything like a superglue will cause the glass to crack. This I know from experience from when I first started 21 years ago. I used a superglue and the whole piece cracked right across over time.
Brilliant test. We have limited types of glue in South Africa, but we do have Gorilla
Hopefully, you can find this Clear glue but if not, you can use the test process to try out the adhesives you can buy in SA. Good luck.
Thanks for testing all the glues. Is the Gorilla glue odour free?
I haven’t noticed any smell. I’m sure it must have some but it’s not obvious.
Where do you get that nipper
I need one
How very kind for you to share this! I'm a newbie to this and this really helps. Would you use this with your glass on mirror also?
Hi Cindy, yes absolutely. It will work just as well on the mirror.
Great information Sue, Thank you! x
Thank you! New glue for my toolkit, much appreciated!
You’re very welcome
Hi Sue, thanks for the great comparison. Would you consider using the Gorilla glue for your glass on mirror work, instead of the Silicone?
Hi Alison, yes. I have been considering it, but I find a silicone easier to use.
So so interesting and helpful!! Thank you!!
It’s a bit long-winded and takes time, but once you do it, you can be 100% sure that you’re not going to have problems with your work later on.
@@SueSmithGlassMosaics Not long-winded at all! I found it very concise and thorough.
❤ Your instruction and technique are exactly what I've been needing as a self-taught beginner. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise!
You are so welcome!
Is all this clear colored glass you using just regular stained glass ? I have very little stained glass in clear colored glass
Yes, regular stained glass.
How can I get the blue plyers?
Answered in your previous question. Depending on which country you’re in, I might be able to give you some names of companies.
Hello, where do I get the plyers you are using?
They are called Running Pliers and these blue plastic ones are made by Leponitt but other companies make similar ones in metal or plastic. I sell the plastic ones in my online shop, but otherwise you need to look for mosaic or stained glass material & tool suppliers
Where do get get the border pieces? What are they ?
They are thin strips of mirror which I cut myself. I saw them in my online shop or you can watch how to cut them for yourself in this video: ua-cam.com/video/x0rS-3uZfM8/v-deo.htmlsi=E7qV3S82Ar0x6uIF
Now I just need to find the mirrors 😀 thank you
You can use different borders. Gems/nuggets, strips of coloured glass, even mosaic tiles. You can also use thin strips of textured clear ( non coloured) glass which gives a similar but softer look.
Thank you for your video. Very helpful.
Hi Sue. Any chance you could demo how to make a few of these? Can’t get the pieces correct.
