  • No. 18. Grouting.
    There are 19 mini films in this series from 'Getting Started' to 'Grouting and Polishing Your Completed Mosaic.'
    In each film will take you step by step through my process for making these bright and cheerful glass mosaics. Using mirror as a base reflects light back through the beautiful colours of the glass which then change shade according to the atmosphere. Once completed your flower mosaic will be 100% weatherproof.

      I am glad you find it easier. Most of us hate grouting so any way to make it less messy is high my list!

    Very helpful. I am going to try the dry wipe grout technique...because wow, what a difference that would make with clean up!!! I am also excited to try the clear silicone for the glue. One question, how did you hang this piece?

    • @SueSmithGlassMosaics
      @SueSmithGlassMosaics  Рік тому

      Hi Stacey, when you use this method for grouting if you get any on the floor just leave it, let it dry and then sweep it up. If a damp cloth is used it will turn the black (or which ever colour you use) into a dye. Once you’re done just sweep everything away. It saves all that problem of trying to get rid of wet grout.
      There are different ways to display these but I have long metal display spikes made which can be pushed into the ground. I now sell them in my online shop along with sets of my mirror clips for wall display. You can also fix them to a wooden ground stake.

    This is such a useful series, thanks Sue. I've watched most of them a few times and is my go-to reference! I've now done a few little glass on glass mosaics but however careful I am with gluing, I always seem to get some bleed of the dark grout showing through under clear glass. How do I make sure that the glue is thick enough to not leave gaps under the glass, but not so thick that it comes to high up the sides of the glass? Any tips? Thanks.

    • @SueSmithGlassMosaics
      @SueSmithGlassMosaics  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Lesley, could be several things that are causing the problem.
      1 you’re not not using enough glue under the piece of glass.
      2 If the glass is textured or not perfectly flat this can create air bubbles. Usually, Cathedral glass or restoration glass is uneven and not perfectly flat, this it’s made to look old. When I use this type I cut it up into small pieces so it’s much easier to push the air bubbles out.
      3 Your pieces of coloured glass are too big and you’re not able to push out all the air bubbles. When you put the piece of glass down you should be able to wiggle a little bit to help get those air bubbles and the excess glue out. Then you can use a small clean brush or a tool and remove the squished out glue that is around each piece of stained glass tessera.

      It’s is. It is used as underlay for laminate floor boards. It’s perfect for this work and being waterproof you can wash it down.

    What are the brushes? Are they kitchen brushes, shoe brushes? Where would I get them?

    • @SueSmithGlassMosaics

      Hi Kate, I use all sorts of wire brushes but the one used in these videos are softer than the type you would clean the barbecue with. I don’t know what country you are in so cannot recommend a store but most hardware stores should have them. Are usually come in a set of three a steel, brass, and nylon.
