  • No. 11 of 19, How to glue stained glass Nasturtiums to build a garden mosaic.
    There are 19 mini films in this series from 'Getting Started' to 'Grouting and Polishing Your Completed Mosaic.'
    In each film will take you step by step through my process for making these bright and cheerful glass mosaics. Using mirror as a base reflects light back through the beautiful colours of the glass which then change shade according to the atmosphere. Once completed your flower mosaic will be 100% weatherproof.

    I have admired your work for quite a while. I used to do work in stained glass, but I set it aside for many, many years, always thinking I would pick it up again. Gardening has become my new passion, so seeing your glass flowers was exciting. Two of my favorite things combined! I have finally cleared off some space and dusted off my old glass tools. I just binged watched all your videos I could find.( Can't seem to find #6) Looking forward to creating a garden of live forever flowers soon. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise.

    I love your videos. I work with glass mosaics but I normally glue them to a wood canvas with Wellbond. I am going to try your method by gluing them to a mirror. Thanks for the great video's!

    I have yet to make a stained glass mosaic, nor have I made a mosaic with flower petals or leaves, but when that day finally comes, I will hit the ground running, with everything I've soaked up from watching your videos. Thank you, Sue Smith!!!

    Sue, thank you for your thorough step-by-step tutorials. May I ask, what do you use to clean the silicone residue off the brush to keep it soft? Kind regards from San Antonio, TX.

    • @SueSmithGlassMosaics
      @SueSmithGlassMosaics  4 роки тому +2

      Rosalinda Nerio I don’t clean the brushes as such. I wipe off the silicone which builds up on the brush as I work but if it does dry I use a very sharp blade to cut off the excess silicone. I don’t like the brushes too soft, I prefer them once they have dry silicone on and become more like a glue spreader. Sue

    This is the best yet. You have encouraged me todo this. What is the name of the glue you recommended?
    The panel is unusually shaped. Where do you intend to hang it? Would this work on clear glass?

    • @SueSmithGlassMosaics
      @SueSmithGlassMosaics  4 роки тому +1

      thalia newton I use silicone sealant. Brands are difficult to name, they’re not available in all countries. I always test a new one before I use it: I start by glueing 2 pieces of glass together, soak them in water for a week or two and then straight into the freezer, then into the oven. I do this ever time I buy a new adhesive or product that I wish to use in my work so the I am 100% sure it will work.
      I don’t use it on clear glass, it works but is ugly from the back so use one that isn’t as goopy. If you are Uk based I can let you have the details if the ones I use and have images of the ones I used in the USA. Sue

    • @SueSmithGlassMosaics
      @SueSmithGlassMosaics  3 роки тому +1

      You should clean it off the brush regularly as you work, using piece of paper towel. If it builds up and dries you’ll need to cut it off the brush using a shape blade. Glad you found them useful. Sue

      I've been reviewing your video's because I'm preparing to do a fairly large kitchen backsplash in a floral tile mosaic (not tile squares) and your techniques are relevant to tile as well as glass. You do really nice work and give excellent directions. Thanks for posting this series!

    Great tutorial Sue. Is there a reason why you use mirror apose to glass as your substrate?

    • @SueSmithGlassMosaics
      @SueSmithGlassMosaics  4 роки тому +3

      Pauls Mary the mirror reflect light back through the colours so they always remain bright and change hue according to the ambient light. Best way os’s to lay some coloured glass on a mirror and see the results. Sue

      Art4 Life you need to practice with it and getting the right amount is important but I’ve been using it for 17 years with no problems what so ever. It’s what I started with and although I use different glue for other types of work, I only ever use silicone for glass on mirror.... and a few other surfaces. I’ve tried to explain through the videos how much silicone to use.
