I would love your input on a piece that I am doing. I am a newbie to mosaic, I am actually a wood carver that decided to do a mosaic for a background. I did it on paper and I progressed well until I saw your video on water. Now i am unsure on the way forward since I love your style, but I am worried it will overpower the wood carving
@@libwade5350 It is mirror. Quick and easy test....If you see something you think might work, like polished metal, lay a piece of coloured glass on the surface. This will show if it is too dull to give a good reflection/brightness. Sometimes something looks great but when you put the glass on the top it goes dark, flat, dull, in this case I would not use it as a base.
Hi Sue. When you say at the end of this "you're ready to stick your back on" - is there another video that shows this? Or what do you use to put on the back of a finished mosaic to hang it?
Hi Sam, it really depends on how you want to display your work and how big/heavy it is. You can have a look on my website at fittings and you will see different ones there for different sizes including the glues that you need to use. I also have metal stands made for my long thin panels and if bigger, 4- 5 foot I will have stainless steel frames made. For the tiles and cleaning in this video I would fix a large D ring on the back. Most of these can be bought in hardware stores, eBay, Amazon. For bigger panels there are self adhesive pads that you can buy in again as I do with everything I use I tested them thoroughly before I recommend them. Which glue is very important because some will ‘eat’ the silvering on the back of mirrors and eventually a piece will fall off so it must be one that is suitable for mirror.

Hello Alida, This is my email, why not send me some images so I can see what you are referring to. Sue. suesmithglass@icloud.com
Sue what are you using for all these backers and where do you get that from?
Sorry Lib, don’t really understand the question. What do you mean by backers? Are you asking how I hang these tiles?
@@SueSmithGlassMosaics No sorry Sue, is your substrate mirror or polished metal?

Wow you put a grouted piece in hot soapy water. I’ve never seen that before. Just a few seconds I presume
No you don’t have to only put it in for a few seconds. All my work is made for the garden and so I use a swimming pool grout so it’s waterproof.
Swimming pool grout - never hear of it - am going to check it out. What is your substrate?
@@58LAF swimming pool grout is what they use for swimming pools. It’s just a waterproof grout.
I generally use mirror as my base.
