Woodwork Project: Christmas Gift Box - Hand Tools Only
This video shows how I built a simple wooden gift box using hand tools only.
The materials are very cheap and only a handful of tools are required. The joints are build rather than cut so it's a great project for a beginner.
In the video I refer to some other projects:

Woodwork Project: Making a picture frame with reinforced miter corners
Переглядів 2,4 тис.5 років тому
In this video my daughter Stix joins me in the workshop to make a picture frame for the Yellena James print she bought as a gift for her Mum. We go through the following. - Calculating the sizes required - Cutting the boards to length both by hand and with a machine saw - Cutting the 45° miter both by hand and with a machine saw - Adding a bevel feature to the frame with a plane - Adding a moul...
Woodwork Tools: Introducing the 78 Rebate/Rabbet Plane
Переглядів 14 тис.5 років тому
A bit different to my usual projects, in this video I take a look at the 78 style rebate or rabbet plane. I'm going to be using a rebate plane in upcoming projects and so thought a video introducing it might be worthwhile. I recently bought a second hand Record 078 from a flea market and so in this video I clean it up, sharpen the cutting iron and make some test cuts. This video may be useful t...
Woodwork Project: Three Pot Planter from Reclaimed Hardwood
Переглядів 2,6 тис.5 років тому
In the project a make a garden planter for three plant pots using some wood I salvaged from an old garden table. I use dovetail joins to join the edges and use some simple carving to add a design to the end. I use a band saw, chop saw, trim router and thicknesser machine in the project, but most of the work is done using hand tools. I use the machines more than usual in the project as I had rec...
Woodwork Project: Wood and Resin Coaster Holder
Переглядів 2,6 тис.5 років тому
In this project I show how I made some holders for the coasters which I made in this previous video: ua-cam.com/video/cLhgCuRzRB8/v-deo.html The cylindrical wood and resin sides to the holder are a perfect project for turning if you have access to a lathe. However, in this video I show a method for making them without requiring a lather. www.adventuresintshirts.com
Woodwork Project: Make an alternative to a clamp when you don't have enough
Переглядів 2,1 тис.5 років тому
This video shows a quick and easy method for making an alternative to a clamp, using simple wedges to apply pressure. This video is probably most for those who new to woodworking, those with more experience no doubt have used this method, one like it or have their own solution. However, if you need to clamp up a job for gluing and you either don't have any clamps of the right size, or you just ...
Woodwork Project: Wooden Box With Resin Inlay
Переглядів 58 тис.5 років тому
In this video I make a wooden box out of ash and purpleheart. The ash had some defects in it which I turned into a feature using some tinted epoxy resin. I also added an inlay feature by making further use of the resin. Thanks for watching! Please subscribe for new projects. www.adventuresintshirts.com/
Woodwork Project: Mitered Corner Box - Using Hand Tools Only - Part 2

In this project I build a wooden box with metered corners and splines using only hand tools. This project is part of a series I'm publishing with the aim on showing that it is possible to build a range of nice projects using only the most basic of tools. The best way to improve at woodworking is by doing it, but often the interesting projects seem to require access to expensive machine tools or...

Woodwork Project: Jig for Mitered Corner Boxes - Using Hand Tools Only
Переглядів 52 тис.6 років тому
Hand Tool Woodworking. I recently set myself a challenge to build a mitered corner box using hand tools only. The hardest problem in that kind of project is cutting accurate 45' angles along the length of a board, so I designed this jig to help. The reason behind all of this is the recognition that a new woodworker with a limited number of tools is often prevented from trying out some more adve...

Woodwork Project: Coasters from Scrap Wood and Resin
Переглядів 75 тис.6 років тому
This project is a little different as it doesn't feature much in the way of fine woodworking, but I hope you'll enjoy it none the less. I rarely throw away anything that I think might come in useful and so I have various tubs and boxes of odd scraps of wood stashed around the work shop. In this project I make use of some of the scraps by making a set of coasters. I make a sleeve by constructing...
Woodwork Project: Wooden Crates that last!
Переглядів 38 тис.6 років тому
How to make wooden crates This video shows how I made a couple of robust stackable storage crates from some cheap construction timber. The whole project cost less than £12 ($17 US) for materials. I needed some crates to store miscellaneous household things but was alarmed at how flimsy some of the market options were or how much some people wanted to charge for an an old fruit crate. So these a...

This video shows how I made a wooden box with a curved front. The front was made by laminating several thin strips of sapele in a shop built former. I used a bandsaw to cut the strips and shapes for the lid, base and collar, but there was a lot of hand tool woodworking involved. Thanks for watching! Interesting idea, I've got a huge box of wooden pen blanks from years ago, might be a good way to use a bunch of the more plain looking ones up.

Great work! My congratulations. I was left with the impression that you left the bookmatching of the top panel on the inside. Was that on purpose?

Hi Trevor. Good luck with your woodworking journey. I don't have the exact dimensions to hand, but i would stress that I built this with bits and pieces I had to hand. Thinly really important things are to cut accurate 45' at the end of the side pieces, to ensure the front is bang on 90' to the sides and to make sure the from rails are parallel. I use lollipop/popsicle sticks in a lot of projects like this as the are factory engineered to dimensions with enough accuracy for woodworking. SO they are great for making spacers etc.

Move your light from behind you so you won't have to work in your own shadow all the time. It'll be better for you and your work and also for your viewers. Otherwise great work.

Yes, I've improved my lighting set up so it's now much better. The shadow looks a lot worse on camera than it is in real life.

Being obsessively enamored with all things of Japanese design, I’ve made several of these boxes in the past but still always watch because I always pick up something that helps with future builds. No different here, as the positioning of the second lid cross piece has always been the most tedious part for me as I can’t stand the slightest gaps at that step. Your registration block will solve that in the future. Thanks for that and the chuckle I got at the end with the realization that someone else repurposes their old sweat socks.

Wow… excellent tut! Bravo! 👏✨ Most big YTers use table saws and other machines to make a regular 90deg shooting board… let alone a carcass-miter shooting board! I’m thinking like…”umm, most people that actually need a shooting board don’t have machine/bench tools” lol

I must compliment the outstanding instruction in these two videos. I really enjoyed them! Everything was presented at a good & learnable pace. You kept to your knitting and showed how the project could be accomplished with very basic tools. I appreciated your clarifying critical cuts and fittings and so many of the nuances of both using the tools to achieve desired results and successfully completing the project. Thank you very much!

Usually my comments are negative, but this video is fantastic. Simple, plain. The sound, language, photography all are excellent. Commentary is minimal and to the point. No rambling, stumbling, folksy b.s.. I've watched many hundreds, possibly thousands of WW videos. There are only about 1 or 2 dozen sites that can match this quality. Part 2 is the same. Charge on.
