Woodwork Project: Three Pot Planter from Reclaimed Hardwood

- In the project a make a garden planter for three plant pots using some wood I salvaged from an old garden table.
I use dovetail joins to join the edges and use some simple carving to add a design to the end.
I use a band saw, chop saw, trim router and thicknesser machine in the project, but most of the work is done using hand tools.
I use the machines more than usual in the project as I had recently dislocated my shoulder and was in some pain, so for instance I elected to use the band saw rather then rip cut the end angles with a handsaw, simply to save some strain on my muscles.
The tool I use for the carving is a Straight V-Parting Tool No 15 45° made by Pfeil
I'm just starting woodworking, so its great to see how things are done by an expert!
Thank you, we are all learning.
Really enjoying your videos. Thank you.
Thank you :D
This is becoming one of my favourite UA-cam channels. You've inspired me to give woodwork a go!
Thanks Luke. Apologies the updates are slow but I have a bunch or projects I'll be putting up as soon as I can finish the editing.
@@adventuresint-shirtswoodwo3905 Would it be possible to have you do a video going through all of your tools? Specifically, it would be helpful if you then did a little segment recommending things one should buy to get started. I'm getting together planes, clamps, saws, etc. and it would be helpful to have some guidance.
Hi Luke, yes, I'm sure I can put something like that together - I'm actually working on a series of videos for new starters and that would probably fit right in with that.
@@adventuresint-shirtswoodwo3905 That's brilliant. I've turned on notifications now.
I've put the word out to friends and family that I'm looking for tools. I've managed to get some of the stuff together on the cheap. I just need to get some decent chisels and a workbench. Unfortunately space is an issue, so i'll probably end up using a little folding bench. I'm a bit worried that it won't be stable enough when it comes to sawing, but I have no other choice. When I have a garage or more space i'd like to get a woodwork bench with a decent vice.
Great stuff. I got by for years using an old Black & Decker workmate as a bench. It's a poor relation to a good sturdy bench but surprisingly versatile and the long clamping capacity is actually better than a vice for some jobs.
