Schooner Tijgerhaai (Tigershark) started life in 1944 as a canadian built tugboat and she has been in my family for almost 50 years. Since she came back from a 4 year trip around the world in 1994, the ship has been mostly idle... That changes NOW. Recently, I quit my job as a marine engineer in order to revive, refit, rebuild this beautiful ship, together with my dad, to get her up to date and ready for new adventures.
Two Years of Restoring an Old SAILING SHIP!
It's been two years already since we started getting the boat ready for new adventures. Here's an overview of everything we've done so far.

Nice! But i hope new sails will be not white.
What color are you hoping for?
Hei. Does it have ballast tank with water? Or only tanks with fresh water?
No ballast water, she's steady enough without. Only potable water tanks :)
We enjoyed so much following your project, guys! Cool work 🤛🤝🙏
Welkom terug Gijs. Hopelijk was het weer een mooi avontuur. De beste wensen voor iedereen daar.
Hahah bedankt Arthur, maar dit was er eentje van vorig jaar :)
Ha Gijs, prachtig werk doen jullie zeg, echt indrukwekkend. Succes met het afronden en behouden vaart!
wat een werk, maar wat een schip
Good luck man Hope you do good progress and have fun with your dad for this awesome moments me and my dad purchase 80 foot catamaran ourselves and I’ve been stuck for a whole year in a different country on this project located in the Dominican republic and still not done yet so good luck, hopefully we can finish our projects this year one love
All good but if you just use different type of scrues- more flat and wide- it will look much much better.
Ah yeah will do will do, but we had to take everything out again for varnish, so this was only temporary :)
Well done!
Awesome!!!
Can’t wait for the coming year’s developments!
you are so lucky to have a relationship with your father like this.

Polycarbonate and glass both have their own advantages when it comes to insulation against cold, but there are some key differences: Thermal Insulation: Polycarbonate generally offers better thermal insulation compared to glass. It has a lower U-value, meaning it provides better resistance to heat transfer1. This can help keep interiors warmer in cold weather. Weight: Polycarbonate is much lighter than glass, which can make it easier to handle and install. This reduced weight can also be beneficial for certain structural applications2. Impact Resistance: Polycarbonate is highly impact-resistant, making it more durable in harsh weather conditions, such as hail or heavy snow. Glass, on the other hand, is more prone to breakage3. Cost: Polycarbonate is often less expensive than glass, which can make it a more cost-effective option for insulation. Transparency and Clarity: While glass offers superior transparency and clarity, polycarbonate provides good visibility but may have slightly lower optical clarity. Overall, polycarbonate can be a better choice for insulation against cold due to its superior thermal properties and impact resistance. However, the best material for your needs will depend on specific factors such as budget, structural requirements, and aesthetic preferences. I'd pick the sailing boat has a clear winner in thick clear UV stabilized Polycarbonate replacing the glass in the opening windows. Might not be as good as the triple glazed fixed windows but will be better than bare glass. Hartelijke groeten uit Nieuw-Zeeland.
Replacing the glass itself, not a bad idea! Hadn't thought of that yet. Thanks!
That's is an amazing initial creation from power to motor sailor. And the new refit is amazing. You work together so well. I wonder who is the designer, engineer and who is the boss. Amazing job. Can't wait for more
Thank you! I think we're both a bit of everything!
nice
Absolutely legendary

Bedankt! Succes met de verbouwing!

Hello Tiggerhaai from Florida. Life time love affair with sailing vessels and was privileged when I was much younger to be taught to sail a 32 foot sloop on Lake Erie. I really like two and three masted schooners and there are a few restored two masters (former New England cod schooners) here in the states. Wooden vessels that have been painstakingly restored. Your conversion and rebuild of a former tugboat is utterly fascinating and I tip my hat to you and your dad for all your hard work. She sure is a beautiful vessel and I am sure quite seaworthy! My best wishes to you and your father. Fair winds and following seas.
Thanks a lot! I hope you have a great 2025 :)
Fabulous fabulous effort, father and son I believe, and brilliant.
Your irresponsible religion of Hedonism makes you slave for years; harder than anyone who is not chasing your fantasy. The irony is that once you reach your goal it will turn to dust and all your eork and labor ill be in vain... How so? Because by ignoring all your greater responsibilities; the changing world will crush your dreams because of you ignoring your greater responsibilities. Meaning by the time you are ready to sail; you won;t be able to. There is a nuclear war brewing in the near future and your nation will be destroyed because of it.
Cool! We're having a lot of fun though :)
What a job you guys already have done👍 Can’t wait to see the rest the conversion!
It looks strange having the ships wheel so far back from the windows!
It was kind of a compromise to fit it in at all, but steering is mostly done outside on the poopdeck :)
@ thank you
🤜🏻🤛🏻 awsome
Very good job!!!! Perfect!!!!
