Excellent video! Nice to see an entire project completed in your renovations. Perhaps the clearest explanation I have heard from sailboat renovation video's of the Solar Collection service and the reasonings behind the decisions made.
Well done. Thanks for another great video, the rigid panels should last longer than the flexible ones also. If the panels get too hot in heat waves in the future you could potentially make a bigger gap between them and the under boards - to allow increased ventilation to the back of the panels. Black surfaces get surprisingly hot on long, sunny, summer days. I use the panels on my boat to run a fridge/freezer during the daytime, freezing water bottles that I move into the fridge section when I turn it all off at night. Solar power is wonderful! Looking forward to seeing the dinghy again kitted out with its new cover
Great job, you might want to put the solar panels 1 per mppt controller, as shading of one panel will pull all on that controller down. Best wishes from Northern Canada.
That's probably a smart idea. You have these little boxes called optimizers that you can connect in between each panel and the main string. I'm considering to get 5 of those :)
@@tigersharkboatworks So long as they are Victron, you can't go wrong. Most of the long range cruisers use one Victron MPPT controller per panel, to cut down the loss due to shading by the sails/boom.
Zoals altijd mooi werk geleverd. Ik volg jullie vanaf het begin en vindt het een geweldig UA-cam kanaal en als jullie oa 't shirts gaan verkopen kun je mij wel mee rekenen. Kijk al uit naar de volgende aflevering.
EasySolar is a great product. I have the previous version, the EasySolar 24/3000/70. Not sure if yours supports it but mine will do peak power of 6000VA for a duration 30 minutes. It's a bit hidden in the service manual. So, what I've done is connect an electric tankless water heater (elektrische geiser) of 3500W. Gets hot enough for a shower when using somewhat restricted water flow and conserves water. Also induction cooktop, computers, compresson fridge, etc. 1560Wp of solar. 3kWh of LTO batteries. All in/on a 6 meter camper. Working for years now, very reliable.

It’s interesting that you can only get 100w flexible panels in Holland. We can easily get 600w good quality flexible panels in AUS. I have two 300w flexible panels on top of my bimini. Plus the cost is very high? Maybe because we are closer to China our panels are way cheaper . 😂 anyway yes happy to support you guys by buying some merch. I love the way the yacht is looking now and would be great to see it in AUS once finished. It is completely bonkers. 👍
@tigersharkboatworks yeah you must come to the west coast HYC and experience the good life🤣🤣 I have spent week in a shipyard preparing my yacht for the upcoming racing season it almost killed me. Now I am done the weather looks amazing, let's goooooo👍👍👍
Very interesting! Sadly, I know next to nothing about solar panels, but I know this about stickwelding: If you do it in t-shirt and shorts, you are gonna regret it!
Thanks! I reached out to them and looked up the panels. They're very hard to come by in the Netherlands, but, so we went with a cheaper solution for now :)
hi here a suggestion you have just built the sundeck you could use both sides to have a pair of extra panels by slip hinge and extra pole off the hand rail Extra panel would be a help on low sun days as they the more the merry
Maybe I missed it in one of the previous videos, but did you consider a small wind-turbine in addition to the solar? And if you did and decided it wasn't worth it, I'd be interested to know you're reasoning, as it seems like a good trickle-charge option for when the sun isn't out.
We haven't looked at those yet. I think they're a bit fragile for this stage in the rebuild since we have some rough work still outside. Once we almost start sailing, we'll dive into the wind-turbines :)
Great to see how the project is evolving, I am sure you will get a perfect world cruising ship. I am no expert or anything like that, but think I once did hear that each solar panel should have some kind of its own stearing electronic, so that if one of the panels are not delivering as it should, it will not impact the other panels, but as said I have no idea in the last end. But I have another idea, would it maybe be an idea to make some kind of ladder to clean the panels, like a drag out from beneath the solar arch, or something from the side mounts?
I worked with those boxes a few times, they're great but quite expensive. When you have a lot of panels connected together it really pays off to have them to see if everything is working as it should, but since we only have 5 panels, fault finding is not a very big job if we notice our total voltage is giving strange numbers. The ladder is a great idea!

Thank you! I'll let everyone know when the shop is up and running, shouldn't take more than a week or two :)
Fast speed makes the job look so easy
Cramming two weeks of work in a 14 minute video will look a bit fast I agree :)
Great little video apart from the flashbacks you gave me when drilling and tapping the steel for screws, gave me some bad memories
Inmiddels alles terug gekeken. Geweldig om te volgen!
Bedankt! Fijn om te horen :)
Wow, things are moving quicky. Great to see you guys enjoying the hot weather. That solar shade is a fantastic idea.

Thanks! We figured we're gonna need it when we're coming in your direction :)
It is precious that your mom is helping with the sails and I love your dads' chicken legs!! They look buff compared to mine!!
Hahahah, I appreciatie this comment, Dad doesn't 😂
The boat is starting to come together congratulations from Boca Raton, Florida
Thanks!
Nice neat and practical fitting of solar system!
Yes, I would buy a t-shirt. You need some kind of enclosure for the sunshade frame area during stormy weather. Great work and a nice family.
Thank you! The webshop is nearly ready :) In stormy weather we'll go inside the wheelhouse

That's a good idea! We'll look into the possibilities, as we have to take care with the main sail sheet getting caught when tacking or gibing.
After thought make frame under the sundeck that you could side the two extra in and out of way when underway @@tigersharkboatworks
