    Thank you soooooo much for this video! I have been messing with my new audio recorder and my mic placement for weeks, wondering why I am getting such horrible crackling audio! You were the only person to bring to my attention, how bad my mic actually is. I had no idea it was my mics fault, I thought it was my voice or my set up or my gain level settings I had changed one million times. This is a great video and deserves way more attention! Happy riding :)

    It could be those rubbers in my case too? On idle when cold its pretty quiet, when heated up, i hear rattle, when i pull the clutch it stops. Also my handlebars vibrate little.

    • @Skipshift
      @Skipshift 3 місяці тому

      If the rubbers are bad or have shrunk they normally make noise when cold too though. It could be regular clutch basket noise if it goes away when you pull in the clutch lever. It would be hard to say for sure without being there to hear it first hand.

    The Iron Butt is just a way to motivate riders to do something, a good way for two or three riders to have a memorable trip. Do the 1k outbound, then come home the backroads and see some sights! • @Skipshift
      @Skipshift 3 місяці тому

      Hmm that is an odd one. The first things that come to mind are the shaft I am turning at around 14:02 in the video. If it isn't engaged with the rod there would be no connection between the clutch and lever. Also the arm that connects the clutch cable and that shaft would be another possible culprit.

    • @imasealarparparparp2714
      @imasealarparparparp2714 3 місяці тому

      @@Skipshift the shaft is engaged, but I noticed that the clutch cable holder isn’t line up with the spline it connects to. It’s off by only 1 tooth, do you think that would be the sole cause? Thanks for the response. I would try to test it myself but the head of the bolt came off so now the screw is stuck in, if it’s a different problem I’ll just leave the bolt in before I put myself through torture or lose money.

    • @Skipshift
      @Skipshift 3 місяці тому

      @@imasealarparparparp2714 if the bolt that pinches the splines on the cable arm is what snapped it may have let it slip the splines. That could be the problem. As for the arm being out of position, you might have enough room on the top and bottom clutch cable adjusters to make up for the arm position. If it was the bolt that I mentioned before, I'd be cautious about riding it without replacing it. If it was to slip a spline or jump a tooth while riding that could be a bad day. Hope you can get it resolved without too much trouble.

    • @imasealarparparparp2714
      @imasealarparparparp2714 3 місяці тому

      @@SkipshiftI got it sir, if anyone else has this problem make sure that the marks on the spline are lined up exactly with the marks on the cable clutch holder. Hi Best I've come across up to now... I have yamaha mt 09 2022 with slipper clutch.. Problem is I get judder feathering the clutch to biting point once at Biting point judder starts vibration through arms at biting point.. I have to give 3000rpm before bike will start to move off to sort off force it out off the judder - vibration.. Above 5mph the clutch works great up and down the box... Never done clutch - friction reinstall.. If I buy the plates and judder spring I was hoping to sort the problem.. I've been told I have some stuck plates.. Been in storage since bought it 7 months ago but I've had the problem since first ride out.. Never test road big mistake on my part.. Question is even though your bike is Gen 2... Is friction plates and steels same as your video for reinstall... Yamaha don't want to know.. After 6 months bike still under warranty.. Advice appreciated.. Thanks

  • @vincesimard

    I have this same problem but i'm wondering if leaving the clutch basket alone is risky? The guy at the dealership said to never touch the clutch until it starts slipping, and never change the basket.

    • @Skipshift
      @Skipshift 3 місяці тому

      I wouldn't live by that advice. There's plenty of things to go wrong before the clutch starts slipping. As for changing the basket, the new one will wear in shortly after you start riding. Not doing anything yet is probably fine though. The cushions being worn and causing the noise isn't going to necessarily cause a catastrophic failure. If it gets really bad it could contribute to breaking fingers on the clutch basket. If it gets too noisy it would be worth asking another mechanic to listen and diagnose themselves. Ride safe 🤘

    Hello and thanks for sharing this instructional video. Today I replaced the broken clutch basket of my MT 09 Tracer (2016) for a completely new one. I solved one problem but now I create a new problem while putting all the parts back in reverse. So I have two questions. Q1: Is it normal that the cam chain should not be too tight because I cannot get it tight. Q2: One of the six bolts that secures the clutch springs is broken. What can happen when i am driving now that I am missing a spring? Thanks in advance for your response.

    • @Skipshift
      @Skipshift 3 місяці тому

      If the chain will not tighten at all I would look to make sure the chain guides are in place properly first and go from there. Making sure the tensioner is the right length to put tension against the guide. For the missing or broken spring, you will have less pressure in the clutch pack which could cause slipping and extra heat and wear in the clutch pack. I definitely wouldn't ride it like that unless you absolutely have to have it on the road.

    • @Skipshift
      @Skipshift 7 місяців тому

      This assembly is to replace the automatic timing chain tensioner, which can sometimes fail to tension or hold tension on the timing chain. If the chain gets an excessive amount of slack, it can cause the chain to jump teeth on the sprockets and cause catastrophic engine failure. This stock adjuster was nowhere close to that point of failure, but was replaced as a preventative measure against failure while on the road.

At 61, my 1k days are sadly, long gone. I just can't rolled the miles I used to. PS: I'm super happy to see you posting again. You have a quality channel and my full support. Eric

      Thanks! It was nice to post again. It's not all about the 1k mile rides, I just want to cover some ground and see the sights around the country. Too many years riding the same roads is making me crazy 🤪 I guess.

    I am interested in using my motorcycle to take me to places where I do other things.. I want to enjoy the ride, enjoy being there and do something like see a concert, stay at a hotel, hit a club, hang out with friends I haven't seen in ages. While I do think the ride in and of itself is important to enjoy (and you wouldn't do long rides unless you enjoyed them) I also feel like going, standing in a place to say I have been there and leaving is a bit of a missed opportunity, you know? I want to find things I want to do at places and then ride to that place, make the best of the trip and the destination.. squeeze every bit of enjoyment I can out of what little free time I get.

      I get that 100%. The 1k mile ride was a round trip to go see a roadside attraction that I've heard about for years and never made the trip to see. In the future, my trips will be more oriented toward seeing the sights and hanging out for a day or two between. There are a few people on the East coast that I'd like to meet up with and hang out for the day. I enjoy riding as much as I enjoy standing in a place to check out the scenery. That is to say that I enjoy and appreciate both things. It's all about the experience for me, with friends or solo. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Commuting is fine for me but I find a scenic ride to and from work. The saddle sore changed me, yes I’m confident I can travel longer distances on the slab but it actually gave me Appreciation for twisties more.

      Oh I definitely get that. There is definitely still a place in my heart for the twisties, and future trips will involve a lot less interstate highways. Thanks for watching! 🤘

    I used to date a IB rally competitor... so no disrespect intended, but if you didn't turn in your paperwork and have it confirmed then while yes you rode 1K+ miles in 24 hours, you didn't complete an Iron Butt. I guess I don't understand why someone would attempt an IB ride, save the receipts, but then not turn in the paperwork unless they messed up or forgot a photo or something and figured oh well. I commute on my bike as many days a year as possible -- it both gets me in the best mood for work, and best mood to arrive home in. Planning a SS1K for next year. Again, no disrespect. It's an achievement for any rider and you have my respect. :)

      Thank you for the comment, and no disrespect taken. I think if my commute was more than a few minutes either direction I would be more apt to hop on the bike and cruise to and from work. I've been asked by a few of my friends and family why I didn't send in the receipts, the Rever recording, GPX data, videos, pictures etc. For me it was much more about self-accomplishment and enjoying the ride itself. I haven't looked to see if there is a time limit to have a ride verified, but if I ever decide to get the stamp of approval from the IBA I'll gather what's needed. Worst case I'll take another 1k ride 😁At this time I'm happy just knowing I completed the ride and saw the sights along the way with a couple of friends. Good luck on your SS1k next year, and enjoy the ride! ✌

    Dang I've been commuting every day for 5 years, haven't missed one. It's the best part of my day. SS1000s are great, probably my favorite rides would like to do a few more. Rode to Alaska in 2005 from Jacksonville FL. Day 2 was from Chattanooga to Billings Montana that was a long freaking run 1700 miles just over 30 hours with two naps. Awesome ride, great view on the mountain thanks for sharing!
