It's great to see you tick that box for an Iron Butt. I have done a lot of riding in my lifetime and never once applied for the IB cert. I guess it just wasn't a big deal to me. At 61, my 1k days are sadly, long gone. I just can't rolled the miles I used to. PS: I'm super happy to see you posting again. You have a quality channel and my full support. Eric

Thanks! It was nice to post again.
It's not all about the 1k mile rides, I just want to cover some ground and see the sights around the country. Too many years riding the same roads is making me crazy 🤪 I guess.

The Iron Butt is just a way to motivate riders to do something, a good way for two or three riders to have a memorable trip. Do the 1k outbound, then come home the backroads and see some sights! It's also a way to get people to pay for a piece of paper. Sort of like a College degree, sit in on all the courses, take and pass all the tests, don't register and pay tuition = no paper, no degree!

I was interested in your comment about commuting. Until recently (when I now take 3 people on my commute, so bike is not really suited) I had commuted daily for 20 years. I NEVER found it hard work, and many days, was the best part of the work day, but everyone's different. I've also done some long rides, multi-day many hundreds of kms. I've done 1000km in a day once, I think that's more than Iike to ride in one day (I realise that's a little short of 1000mi). I prefer about the 400-500km days. Those are my favourite days. Out riding across the countryside. The only reason I'm not out there doing those more often is work and family commitments.

I totally understand. The 400-500k rides would be a good range to see the country side and get some rest in between.
Thanks for watching and commenting! ✌

Funny - I didn't have to do 1k miles in a day to change my mind on it... I did VAMM23. Almost 400 miles in one day, and I was spent. And it wasn't as fun as it could've been. I now have no desire to complete any of those 1k/day rides - I want to see the sights, take my time, and enjoy the ride. I don't need a paper or whatever.
    Great video, man!
    That overlook was awesome!

      I totally agree John!
One of these days I need to make a trip East to meet up with some of you folks. Who knows, maybe a ride to VAMM is on the horizon!
Thanks for checking out the video 🤘

Commuting is fine for me but I find a scenic ride to and from work. The saddle sore changed me, yes I’m confident I can travel longer distances on the slab but it actually gave me
    Appreciation for twisties more.

Oh I definitely get that. There is definitely still a place in my heart for the twisties, and future trips will involve a lot less interstate highways. Thanks for watching! 🤘

I used to date a IB rally competitor... so no disrespect intended, but if you didn't turn in your paperwork and have it confirmed then while yes you rode 1K+ miles in 24 hours, you didn't complete an Iron Butt. I guess I don't understand why someone would attempt an IB ride, save the receipts, but then not turn in the paperwork unless they messed up or forgot a photo or something and figured oh well. I commute on my bike as many days a year as possible -- it both gets me in the best mood for work, and best mood to arrive home in. Planning a SS1K for next year.
Again, no disrespect. It's an achievement for any rider and you have my respect. :)

Thank you for the comment, and no disrespect taken.
I think if my commute was more than a few minutes either direction I would be more apt to hop on the bike and cruise to and from work.
I've been asked by a few of my friends and family why I didn't send in the receipts, the Rever recording, GPX data, videos, pictures etc. For me it was much more about self-accomplishment and enjoying the ride itself. I haven't looked to see if there is a time limit to have a ride verified, but if I ever decide to get the stamp of approval from the IBA I'll gather what's needed. Worst case I'll take another 1k ride 😁At this time I'm happy just knowing I completed the ride and saw the sights along the way with a couple of friends.
Good luck on your SS1k next year, and enjoy the ride! ✌

Thats awesome, congrats! And you did it on a naked bike!? I did 500 in 8 hours and still felt like I could do another hundred or so. A 5 or 6 hour rest I could see being able to do it though. Anybody who can do this on a non cruiser/touring type bike is a true iron butt.

Haha, thanks! Yeah it was an experience without fairings, for sure. I'm just glad I put a comfortable seat on before the ride.
Thanks for checking out the video! 🤘

I am interested in using my motorcycle to take me to places where I do other things.. I want to enjoy the ride, enjoy being there and do something like see a concert, stay at a hotel, hit a club, hang out with friends I haven't seen in ages. While I do think the ride in and of itself is important to enjoy (and you wouldn't do long rides unless you enjoyed them) I also feel like going, standing in a place to say I have been there and leaving is a bit of a missed opportunity, you know? I want to find things I want to do at places and then ride to that place, make the best of the trip and the destination.. squeeze every bit of enjoyment I can out of what little free time I get.

I get that 100%. The 1k mile ride was a round trip to go see a roadside attraction that I've heard about for years and never made the trip to see. In the future, my trips will be more oriented toward seeing the sights and hanging out for a day or two between. There are a few people on the East coast that I'd like to meet up with and hang out for the day.
I enjoy riding as much as I enjoy standing in a place to check out the scenery. That is to say that I enjoy and appreciate both things. It's all about the experience for me, with friends or solo.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!
