Fast toys? Sort of. Cheap toys? Absolutely! Reliable toys? Not so much! I've always loved a barn find project. If its rough but the bones are good I'm all over it. You can have the most fun with projects that are low initial outlay that require some hands on.
My most long term project is my e30 M30 that I built from the parts I had left over from parting out various e34, e30 and e21 BMW cars over a decade ago when eighties German cars were cheap and plentiful parts donors. Its been a track/skid/drift day missle ever since with its unkillable M30B35 engine, getrag 260/6 gearbox and s2 body.
The second project is an XC Ford Falcon 351 Cleveland powered sedan that I purchased in late 2020 and set about restoring for road use, the project took about 9 months from start to finish and was registered in August 2021. The Falcon will be a work in progress as these Classic Aussie Muscle Cars do need some upkeep. That is fine by me.
I also have a thing for Kawasaki Gen i 1 ZX10R litre bikes

XC Ford Falcon 351 Crusty Wagon project: Can I make this smoke go away with a heat cycle and tuning?
Hello intrepid viewer, when we left off last week I had filled my yard full of smoke and annoyed my neighbours. Neither was I equipped to complete the wiring for my AU twin thermo fan set up to deal with the hot engine when it got to temperature. So my effort to heat cycle to sort out the smoking was shelved until better weather conditions prevailed.
Fortunately the following weekend a cold snap had rolled in and there was a stiff westerly prevailing to keep my neighbours inside with their doors and windows tightly closed! A great opportunity presented itself and I was optimistic that I could make some headway BUT it seems that my radiator STILL leaks!
So that's annoying!

Hello and welcome to episode 31, yes we are going back in time because the radiator took twice as long to get repaired as I had anticipated. So rather than do nothing last week I brought forward the Car Builders and carpet episode I had ready to go while I waited for the radiator to come back to me. I guess copper and brass radiator repairs are becoming a rare specialty! During this episode I m...

Hello and welcome to episode 29 of Missle industries ongoing exhaust system saga. Last week we left off having the extractors mocked in and panel beaten to clearance all the things. In this episode I take the left over VY SS commodore cat back exhaust system I have had lying around since I removed the LS1 and T56 for my e30 way back at the start of 2023 and chop it up to repurpose for this proj...

Hello and welcome to episode 28 of Missle industries Ford Falcon crusty wagon project! Today it is time to install a set of tri-y extractors that I have been sitting on since October last year! I barely had the car for a month and I found these for sale in Redcliffe for an agreeable $300. The owner assured me that they would indeed suit my particular application so I took a punt on them knowing...

Hello and welcome to the painting wrap up walk around episode of Missle industries crusty XC 351 Cleveland wagon project. Hello and welcome to my follow up episode for my painting project. As is always the case I get done what I can but I invariably run out of time and this weekend is no exception. It probably didn't help that I have come up short for a few small items that I genuinely thought I had! No matter, I will pick those parts up at a later date.

Hello and welcome to the episode where I get to lay down some Neptune Blue over the body of Crusty Wagon. I did find myself stuck at home for four straight days, so what better way to pass the time than to sneak out to the shed in between family commitments and get some work done on this project.

So I filmed the bulk of this episode almost two months ago when a set of refurbed 14x8 hotwires with china tyres cropped up here for sale in Brisbane. The wheels were gorgeous BUT the offsets were a bit on the soft side and the tyres were not muscle car cred worthy. At the time I dismissed it as an option then attempted to buy a set of tyres similar to the ones on my sedan only to find out ther...

Hello and welcome to episode 26 of Missle industries crusty wagon project! This episode started all the way back on ANZAC day afternoon while I was on Marketplace looking for XC parts and up pops a seller looking to off load three clapped out guards that he had dragged out from behind his shed. Hello and welcome to episode 24 of Missle industries XC Ford Falcon crusty wagon project! When this wagon rolled into my shed all those months ago, my initial plan was to turn it into a parts car by stealing all the goodies off it that I wanted and sending the rest to the scrapper. That engine sounds pretty tight.
Bummer about the radiator can't get quality work anymore but they charge you for it can't you jet down the carby jets
I fixed my 650 Holley issues with a full Sniper setup including the dizzy, ignition box etc I fixed my leaking radiator with a blob of radiator chewing gum stuff in 1985 and it's still holding today. This weekend I finally got the repainted door trim back in including new bolts and clips for the armrests and spent about an hour getting the door latch chrome trim back on. I also had part 5 of trying to hang the Hardtop door properly...I can see that will go into several more parts as I have to do it myself. Keep up the great work, I feel ya bro.
Its pretty smokey BRO i can't see chooky
sounds nice to me you didnt spend a lot of money on the exhaust well done
Cheers, it worked out pretty well for a first effort.
My Saturday was using an Amazon plastic welding kit to repair the GT grill on my XB. It worked very well. Great to see your wagon getting closer.
I worked for a motorcycle spray painter years ago and he used a gas soldering torch with the tip removed for his plastic welding, similar thing?
@@Missleindustry yeah this is like a little electric soldering iron.
Hey do you have an email people can contact you on. If so, maybe flash it on screen one episode.

good on ya ..
Interior looks really good, good job👌. The colour of the carpet reminds me of the carpet in the p6 Silver Monarch LTD. Cranberry i believe.
Well at least the carpet matches the bonnet hinges
True, it is part of my aussie flag colours theme.
Hows the price of eggs BRO
Mine have stopped laying too, useless eaters.
great job the carpet breaks up the interior nicely
I think the seats and trims need some black vinyl paint.
How is the durability of the vinyl paint where you sit? I am tempted now that I think about it.
@@Missleindustry You prepare the surface with the acetone and get it really clean, then you dust on a couple of coats first, after that dries, you can give it a couple of coats to finish it off. This will not rub off on your clothes at all. Preparation is key. Scrub the acetone into the seams with a small stiff brush. I'm almost finished with my interior and the result is worth the effort.
@@Missleindustry I had the same coloured vinyl as yours and now it's all black. Looks great.
I used acetone to clean my vinyl seats. I then used the vinyl spray paint to recolour them. Acetone works the best and prepares the surface really well for painting.
Well done. Always a nice feeling when you’ve completed it yourself. A shop would charge anywhere between 2-$3k for something like this!
Cheers, my body hasn't forgiven me for it yet! Yeah ouch.
I have a similar setup on my 302 W Fairmont! Designed it myself and welded it up under the cat on my back at times! Not a good idea!! Works a treat though!!
You rate it compared to twin pipes? I'm looking forward to hearing mine once I can get it up to temp and give it some beans.
Sounds pretty good👍, good job on the exhaust👍
Hats off to you getting under there and doing the exhaust. Not to many folks willing to do that.
Cheers, my body is telling me today I'm too old for any more of that.
Nice work , Done well :)
Cheers!
Good work mate, will be good to hear her start when you finish the exhaust👍👍
Going well. Even better recycling :)
Been following you for a while, enjoy your content, except for the CRAP music. Just about blew my speakers up when it came on when you used the drop saw (1.50 mark) to cut up the exhaust. Because you talk softly I have the volume up, then on comes the head banging noise. Otherwise, keep up the good work.
Well done could clean up the welds and give it some high temp paint
That's great well done was a instructive build. great idea can't wait to hear it
Hey mate have you already cut the 2 guards up as the guard with the Wrinkles in it i can fix that for you as it needs a english wheel to fix it right
Sorry the guards have been cut, the wrinkly one is sitting down the side of the shed getting rained on. Thanks for the offer though.
@@Missleindustry all good mate
I put extractors on my Cleveland in my FD, you need to jack the front end up pretty high high enough to manoeuvre the extractors into position so the ends dont foul on the ground. I did this with the drivers side i dont remember having any issues with the passenger side though. Good luck👍
As I am finishing some ones unfinished project , I was wanting to see where speedo cable ran after going through firewall , to get to back of speedo , great videos
Hi.Have only done Xy Falcons. With those I’ve put the drivers side in before the engine, then passenger side in from underneath. You may be able to get the drivers side in from underneath if you lift the engine slightly.I had to modify the column auto linkages to go around the extractors.Good luck.
Nice one.
I don't think there is an "easy" way of fitting extractors! Passenger side is all good, drivers side pretty much needs to be done with engine out. Unless you can split the extractors in two as recommended by pacemaker. I have column auto but cheated by using a cable instead of linkages. Linkages were never going to work with FMX auto, power steering and extractors! Good Luck!
Looking forward to this whole car. Completed fully restored and finished. From William.
I feel yes bro. My first extractors, Genie brand, I bought second hand with the dual exhaust in the XB Hardtop.. well I decided to get any exhaust place to fit them and about 4 or 5 hours later, they were on and they had a very hard time doing it, they had to raise the engine I think on the drivers side. I have power steering and had aircon at the time. The other times they have been disconnected, was when the engine was out. My new set was installed when I was overseas by a place that does these all the time. Rear view mirror in my Hardtop fell off and it was only sitting in the shed. Stayed on for maybe a year. I think I used the permatex, so that needs doing again but this time I'll make sure it cures in the sun on a high UV day. Check your upper arm bushes while you have the front end apart.
look better with the GS grille only my opinion looking forward to the front end rebuild
I had a ford falcon XC. Year 1978 wagon. With a 302 V8. Best car that ever had.
Soak the rusty bolts in lemon juice. They will turn black ⚫️
Excellent, I have plenty of lemons to test this theory out.
I'm waiting for chocky to jump out of the car bro
Whats happening with the crusty outer door glass rubbers their knackered
I will be replacing those in the future rest assured. $150 a set well worth it.
You would be upset about GXL 's then they had very little chrome work apart from the bars
is that why I'm just not into the GXL...aside from the square lights.
@@Missleindustry fair call after having owned one Im a massive fan boy of the GXL
@@darrenpalmer6073 It's always been the GS for me.
That sill panel wants a full skim front to back by the look of it
nah....
I'm a beater and I would
Did you just bog up the rust holes?
I can see how you would think that.
great job, are you going to apply clear?
I probably should.
Looking mint 👌. Nice work mate. Love that, final touch at the end... fuel cap🤣😂
thanks for watching to the end !
Nice one champ. I'm here for inspiration on my rusty Holden in bits. Nearly got to paint the chassis on the weekend. Hmm, what's that. More rust. FFS..... Cheers mate
good luck with your project.
Coming up, good there, mate. Cheers mate from William.
Cheers William
Nice work. No clear coat?
I ran out of premium thinners on the neptune blue coats, I had a litre of SCA clear and SCA thinners but I wasn't game to test them out on the whole car.
Another fine Missle Industry production. I love the additude your taking towards this car. Getting it done.
It helps that I prefer not to pay professionals for something I can make a ham fisted attempt at.
Your not a sook man, Hold out for the gear you prefer, do not settle for just anything. You still have a long way to go on that wagon, a lot of other things to do and time is on your side, other opertunities will turn up. Wheels and tyres can wait.
I do have a long way to go.
Defiantly go 15 inch wheels. Globes would look good.
globes...🤔
Yeah and I'd buy the custom wheels to suit. I'd get them in a 15 inch though, better tyre availability 👉
I'm pretty sure I herd chocky
probably
Weldies for the win!
Go the 12 slots on the xc they look the best. 14x7 245/50/14 on the front and 14x8 265/50/14 on the rear. Was a good combo back in the day. I'm not even sure if you can still get them. They did really suit the car.
Yep but get the 15" versions as they look the same much heaps more variety of rubber.
hmmmm...slotters in 15s
Yeah for my Hardtop I wanted a set of cheap 14" rims to get the blue slip and found there's nothing around and if you do find anything, it's cheap Chinese rubbish. Honestly look out for 15" rims as there's so much more variety. For the back 8" and front 7" should be fine as 8" do cause problems for wider tyres as they scrap when turning. I have 15x8 on the front and 15x10 on the back. 245 up front and 275 at the back with just a fraction scaling in the back and the scraping when turning up front. Guards are rolled up front but not on the back. Love watching your channel. My XB Hardtop is almost ready for rego.
yeah a 15 inch rim would give me better tyre options, an XB coupe is on my wish list.
