Maine Deer Season 2024 Week 2- Things Happened! | MOE Podcast #48
What started out as a slow season (as far as deer sightings), things turned on a dime. You never know when your big buck will be right in front of you. Mark capitalized on the first buck he saw of the season and it was a dandy. We definitely had an eventful end to our second week of Maine’s deer season. With rifle season half over, we are now consistently seeing bucks and are optimistic about what the second half of the season holds. Enjoy!

Follow The Buck Sign | Maine Deer Season 2024
Переглядів 12 тис.21 годину тому
As we talk about much of the time (we sound like a broken record 😁), hunting the big woods in northern Maine is tough with no snow. If you enjoy deer tracking as much as I do, you understand there is nothing like tracking down a big buck on snow. But what to do until the snow comes? Well, big bucks still leave sign. It's our job to find it, follow it and spend as much time as possible in those ...

Fall is a period of transition. Trees are shedding their leaves, birds are flying south and many other living things are preparing for a period of dormancy in which they prepare for new growth in the spring. For people, fall can be a period of new beginnings, with new goals and ventures in store for the future. For me, this fall is a season of change. I have decided to step back from my career ...

The Whitetail Mount | A Scope & Peep In One…BUT Will It Hold Zero?
Переглядів 6 тис.2 місяці тому
I’ve been considering using a peep sight on the Remington 7600 for awhile now. However, I could never fully commit to using it. That may change now since I came across the Whitetail Mount made by Torre Rifle Company. This mount has detachable rings with an integrated peep sight. I was intrigued by the concept of having the best of both worlds…a peep when needed and scope when conditions allow. ...

the spike mount on the wall lol
Awesome video. I must say that particular gun especially being a 270. Having no issues is rare especially in northern Maine weather conditions. One of my favorite all-time rifles also love the pump action.
I think people don't realize that there are 2 Separate "Maine's"? I Live in York County, and the deer are literally everywhere. Although, most of that land is Posted, or inaccessible. I prefer, the Northern areas. My father taught me to be a "Woodsman", just as much as he taught me to be a Hunter. I prefer the Tougher areas, to the shooting gallery down here. I've hunted from Aziscohos to Danforth, to Coburn Gore! I'll take seeing one Good deer, versus taking anything that walks by down here! Congrats Mark! Again, feel like I'm at Dad's kitchen table! You guys are Great! Thank you for what you do. And Paul, Don't take these times with your pops for granted!! Good Luck!
You explained that well! Glad you enjoy it, we appreciate the support!
When I joined the Navy in 1986 I was stationed in Florida for many years, no snow there. I learned to just sit in a tree stand, never got a deer. In my last station in Brunswick, 2003-2006 I got a deer in 2004 (doe) walking on a tote road and 2006 (buck) from a elevated stand. Stinks without snow.
Maine deer hunting is definitely different without snow! Congrats on the deer!
Congratulations MARK persistence patience and Great woodsman skills
Thanks!
Johnson woolens are not what they used to be. They are so thin you can read the news paper through them. They are only in business because of they’re made in Vermont selling point but real Vermont outdoor workers don’t waist money on them. They are just sold to unsuspecting tourists.
Oh man I hope not. I can't say I would be surprised though. It's been a bit since I've purchased any of their stuff. I'll have to check them out. Thanks for sharing!
Congratulations, nice buck.
Thanks, good times!
Awesome job guys keep up the great work
Thanks, we're having a blast!
thanks for sharing enjoyed this video, agree lots of yarding areas are gone...good luck hunting
Thanks for watching!
Congratulations Mark 👍🦌 Think Snow ❄ and Big Bucks ! Good Luck too all in the Great outdoors 🦌 🐻 Like allways that Vermonter!!
Thanks 👍😊
Great conversation! Congrats Mark! Great Buck! Paul you are next

Love the content and pod cast man I really hope I can run into you guys one of these days in the woods would be great to meet ya
Thanks for the kind words! We're out there a lot, so maybe you'll run into each other!
What model gun is that
Grulla 216RB
congratulations to your dad he got himself a beautiful one
It's a dandy!
congratulations to your dad he got himself a beautiful one
My father in law has 3 or 4 of these Remington woodmasters chambered in 30-06 and this year my wife was picked for a cow moose hunt and she used her dad's woodmaster. She has never shot before but never hunted anything before and shot the gun she was using maybe 10 times tops, I'm talking 10 shots tops and it was easy for her but after shooting my bolt action 30-06 I will say the semi-auto definitely kicks less. I wish she would of had more time to practice and shoot with the gun but that's another story. I've looked for a used woodmaster for years and the prices are still ridiculous for guns that look like they were dragged behind a truck.
Awesome! Yeah, the recoil difference is noticeable. Easier to stay on target with follow-up shots than say a 7600!
Great video thanks for sharing
We're glad you enjoyed it!
You guys are the best! I only use Remington 7600 and their 870 shotgun. Identical actions and safeties.
It's nice to keep all the equipment similar!
Northern Maine hunter that now lives in Mid-Coast area, I gave up trying to track deer down here we usually don't get much if any tracking snow, plus the plot sizes I hunt limits how far you can travel. I started sitting all the time, in ground blinds and elevated tree stands and have done ok. Got a 125 pound doe yesterday, hadn't seen many deer, but good sign in the areas I hunt. There has been very warm days and windy too. You'll get into them sooner or later. Good luck!
I agree, it's nice having large tracts of land to hunt. You don't have to worry about anything other than tracking the deer. Congrats on the doe!
Very interesting Podcast! Why did that buck have dark antlers?
Thanks! I suspect it was just its biology.
What's the difference in size of buck tracks and doe tracks?
In Maine it's pretty obvious when you see a buck track. If you can set a 30-06 shell across the width of the track and it fits inside it...it's a nice buck. However, I think the best indication of a buck track vs a doe is just follow them for a little way (get big picture information). How they walk and their attitude are completely different.
Pretty much the same gear here in VT. Remington 742 Woodmaster carbine in .308 shooting 180 gr. I wouldn't say it has easy recoil by any means. Nice gear video.
Sounds like you've got a great set up!
Amazing buck congratulations Sir. I commend you and your dad for not giving up. Buck of a lifetime!
Thanks 👍!
Excellent video, good luck next week. My opening day weekend just got cancelled..after getting everything packed up to leave this morning, my hunting buddy called and had a severe kidney stone attack, his doctor advised him to stay close to home until it passes. With both of us in our mid 70’s I don’t feel comfortable going it alone 4 hours from home. Hopefully we will get out later in the season. Keep the videos coming.
That's too bad to hear Phil🙁. Hope your buddy feels better soon and you guys get out there!
Wish you guys nothing but good luck and a little snow. Looks like you found a decent spot for buck sign. On vacation next week and hitting it everyday as the rut should be in its prime here. Using my second tag so the pressure is off. Enjoyed the video and hearing your perspectives during the season. Regards Mark
Thanks Mark! Good luck with your second tag!
Coyotes? I live on the southern Oregon coast and where I’m at we have a large population of coyotes. Really bad for our deer population. Didn’t know Maine had coyotes. Was thinking about moving there and visited in April
Yup, coyotes! They are a problem here also!
Thanks for sharing !
Our pleasure!
