The Johnson 1842 pant designed by northwood whitetails is a great pant. I wore them still hunting for bear with no base layer in 75 degrees. I also wore them all of rifle season and winter scouting with a base layer. They are by far the most versatile pant.
Mark ..the swing mount scope mount I think your referring to was made by Williams Gun Sight company in Davison ,Michigan ..I think Weaver had one at one time as well…..My uncle had that mount on a sporterized 30-06 Springfield rifle….He found he never really used its feature very much and replaced it for standard bases and rings to save a little weight on the rifle…
Nice additions to your vehicle. Best of luck with your upcoming moose hunt, enjoy the journey. I am sure it web a good time regardless of the temperatures. Enjoyed the podcast. Regards Mark
I have a Badland winch that I use to haul my 12' catboat + aluminum dolly out of the bay and up the beach to the sea wall. It's worked extremely well and has held up beautifully despite being in the salty sea air for months at a time.
Fjallraven pants made from G-1000 fabric. You can wax them to your preference. I’ve had the “Vidda pro” pants beating the brush for years. Excellent pants.
My observations from last years warm week in October Moose season, having been in a support roll for a permit holder, was that most of the moose were taken in the AM. They were not responding to calls at all and from what I could gather they were feeding hard at night and traveling from East to West as the sun began to warm up the air. The areas they were bedding in during the heat of the day were places most hunters were not willing to go into, low laying swamps on the Western side of the ridges. It was pack out territory for a mid day hunt if someone can’t stand waiting in spot. If I were the permit holder, I would have been in the badlands looking to kick up a bedding bull because that’s were the big boys were sitting during the heat. God Speed for your hunt guys, hope someone can film for you. Liverwurst if done well is amazing. my deer liver get made into a liverwurst. cubed up in a cast Irion pan with onions and the wife's secret spices it's cooked to perfection then once it's cooled off goes into a Vitamix blender and made into a smooth liverwurst. It get eaten by the kids in 24hrs time. Native peoples would eat the organ cuts first as most were fasting during the hunting periods so the organ meats and other cuts we don't consider were first to be used for nutritional benefits. Most organs were eaten raw by natives for the power of the enzymes and hormone boost.
@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast if you are still looking for a lite weight pant, try the merino wool from First Lite. They have served me well since 2015 in the Ontario woods. Best of luck this year.

@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiastI’ll agree. I’ve worn the daylights out of those pants in Construction. I’ve got a pair that’s easily 3 years old and still holding up. They are thin, incredibly durable, and dry quickly. The only issue I’ve had is pocket stitching coming undone after awhile, but I put heavy metal tools in mine. Just picked up several pairs of the Duluth Trading Flexpedition relaxed fit. Incredibly comfortable, stretchy, wind resistant, dry quickly. They’re running a sale right now on one of their colors. Should check em out!
The Kuiu Attack Pant is my go-to during bird season. The hip vents are great on those abnormally warm October days when you put on some miles outside the truck and they are water and abrasion-resistant. That makes those early morning walks up raspberry and grass-covered winter roads far more enjoyable than if you were to do so in jeans. I've also been looking at the First Lite 308 pants... But haven't pulled the trigger on those yet or know of anyone who has used them. Good luck!
Ripstop nylon “duty/tactical” pants, or some form of canvas work style pants of your choice. Tractor supply has some lightweight options that are fairly inexpensive for beating up on and not worrying about it. Just my two cents👍🏻🙂
I don't know much about winches, but what I do know it's nice to be able to mount it on the back of yr pickup. Cause most times you get stuck going forward so it's nice to be able to get out the way you come. Instead of going through the nasty stuff ahead of you if the winch is mounted only to the front
I love the familial bonding on your channel. Everything centers around your time spent together and I love that. God luck with the moose hunt! 🫎 Also I was gonna chime in that I like UnderArmour’s storm uninsulated plants for warmer weather hunting (and it can still be used as an outer layer when it gets chillier) but I don’t think they make them anymore.
After using the carharts and a wool jacket for most of my short life, I ventured into the world or merino wool shirts, both super lightweight and very warm on a cold day but cool on a hot day allowing your body to breath. Same on socks. Pants if I’m not wearing carharts I do enjoy the kuiu Attack pants for hot weather. But once cry once. Getting ready for a trip or a hunt is half the fun. Just preparing and getting mentally ready Bummer to hear about your eardrum from shooting. I keep those foam ones on me because I can put them in and forget they are there. That scope your dad mentioned swinging to the side I have a Remington semi auto that has the same mount, it came that way. At the distances we hunt even if the scope is off .25-.50” in variance from moving it won’t be noticed for hunting purposes. When I’ve used the CDS dial I’ll set it to 100 when in the thick woods. But if I want to run my Max point blank range I’ll set it on 200 yards and I’m good to 300 if I travel etc… but otherwise it can stay locked in 100 yards and not be swapping back and forth with scopes. Otherwise I’m running the peeps on the lever actions 😊 Saving the liver and the heart are always the first step to my hunts. The heart being my favorite since a little kid
@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiastyou will like them for warm weather hunting. It was hard for me to start using the “new” stuff as I hate changing or following what everyone else does but sometimes it’s worth it
Have had pretty good luck with First Lite's line of merino wool and synthetic pants (I think the model names have all changed recently, but the quality is still there) during the warmer weather of archery season. Sitka makes great stuff too, but the soft shell fabric they use tends to pill easily in bramble, etc here in VT. Thanks for the video and best of luck on your moose hunt.
That .308 was a Winchester model 100 and the mounts were weaver tip up mounts I think they were called ... Those mounts cost my father a buck they weren't locked down and just started flipping back and forth with the rifles recoil.
I have 2 of the “flip-over” mounts and they hold zero, but you do have to make sure it is clicked tight. Haven’t had any issues with them, but can see the your point
I'm heading to zone 3 in October! Eagle lake area. Good luck boys. Plenty of rock climbers out in Utah use Badlands, the two channels I watch are escaping me but they're both very popular. Had a yellow jeep.
It’s a tradition in my family to eat a big feed of liver and onions with bacon, mashed potatoes and toast after someone kills a deer I can’t imagine leaving either the heart or liver in the woods. Maybe it’s a Nova Scotia thing? Ps.. Paul , if you’re interested in selling your Williams peep sight let me know
Leupold messed up when they got rid of their target dot scopes im lucky to have half a dozen of them in different configurations but you put that dot that was in the center of the crosshairs on a deer and that was where you hit. I looked the other day, and they only offer it in the fixed 25 power scope. When i look thru a scope, i want to see that target dot, not a Christmas tree
For the money can’t go wrong with the badlands.Specially if your not keeping it outdoors all the time. Sometimes some stuff is questionable from Harbor Freight but that doesn’t justify the cost of emergency use for warn of superwinch

I just burned out a controller for a 21 year old, Warn ATV winch so I went on their web site to try and at least get a part number. I couldn’t find one so I E mailed their customer service with my problem. They mailed back and asked for my address and told me that they would ship one out right away. In about a week I had my controller, no cost. That’s for a 21 year old product that they no longer make. I’m sure your Badlands will be fine but I don’t know if you are going to get that kind of service from Harbor Freight.
Can I ask a question to get some feedback from all, I have a hunting rifle but it’s single shot, 303 caliber. I have hunting clothes but nothing wool and nothing real quality, I’m in need of upgrading both, but can only afford to do one before this season. Would you recommend buying a new rifle, really looking into a 3030 Henry or should I take the trip to Johnsons woolen mill. Which do you think should be my priority when it comes to an upgrade? I have my thoughts but would like some other opinions
Is the rifle functional? Is .303 British or savage( I asked because of ammo availability)? Clothing I have worn my work clothes since I was young. I have hunted on the ground and deer walk right up on me.
I will say I don't care for my big woods bucks peep sight I think I'm going to put a red dot sight on it for the simple fact they said it would not rust this summer the peep sight was the only thing that rusted so not very happy later
If it's cool enough and we have the time, we'd do it ourself. I think every moose we have shot in the past we paid for processing. That September hunt can be warm 😳
