Lost my dad in November of 06 and deer camp hasn’t been the same since. I think about him more and more and how much I miss him while I’m up at camp. I try my best to keep Camp alive. Nice podcast

Really appreciate this podcast Paul. Seeing comments about folks losing their fathers and missing time spent with loved ones in our chosen pursuits in the outdoors has really rekindled memories of my own father who passed a very long time ago but was the one who started my love of hunting. Thanks again to you and your dad!

That seems to be a common thread. Family is the cornerstone of this society. It has shown me just how important fathers are👍

I lost my Dad, for hunting, just when I was getting into it during my 15-17 years of age. He got me started into hunting and we would hunt with his uncle and his friend. Then his uncle died at 55 years of age and dad just stopped hunting. So there I was, all I could think about was deer hunting and I had no one to go with, yes I had friends, but it wasn't the same. Never was after that. Dad is gone now and I'm still hunting alone at 67. I am glad to have the first couple seasons with dad, but it never was the same after that.

There is nothing like hunting with dad. Some people never even get the opportunity to hunt with their dad. Even though you feel your time was cut short, you are still blessed. He got you started and you are still doing it 50+ yrs later😁

I feel the same way…. Dad was my only partner for so many years. I’m 55 and hunted since I was sitting on his lap…. He died of pancreatic cancer a few years ago. It just isn’t the same. Hard to even look down at his old browning A5 on my own lap. 🙏🏼☮️🌅🦌

So glad you enjoy it! You know, I was talking with my wife last night and we were discussing some topic ideas for this podcast. Sometimes the topics can be less popular than others but you never know who it's going to connect with or who maybe needs it at that point in time. That's so important to us.
      Good luck this fall👍

Sorry to hear about your father. I appreciate you sharing that...I think it's relatable to many.

@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast If I may, and I may have missed an episode that covers this, but something related to Hunting Camp stories, and those you've shared camp with. Always found Most good people, a few bad Apples. But the stories that originate in deer or moose camp may draw interest. And again, Thank You Both for sharing with those of us with Little to No technical knowledge! Lol

Excellent suggestion! I have something in the works for this deer season that is exactly what you are describing. We'll see if it comes together! Stay tuned

I was working at GNP in Millinocket from 80-86 and was let go because the mills were shutting down. I was 29 then and I could have moved to another paper mill town and start over again. But, I too was ready for a change, so the wife and I talked over the spring and summer in 1986 of what was next. We decided to join the Navy and after a 20 year career, I could not have made a better choice. So many new experiences and challenges.

Excellent story! We never know where life will take us...we just have to start heading in a direction. I'm sure when you lost your job in the 80's it was a terrible feeling, but looking back you'd probably say it was a blessing! Thanks for sharing!

Paul, Make sure you spend time with the children! When mine were young, 5/6 months a year, I was working 10/12 hrs a day 6 days a week! I missed SO MUCH! I'm trying to make it up spending time with the Grandkids! Great podcast! Good luck in your NEW VENTURES! Good luck for Deer season to both of you! This year, Paul will get a Monster 5 min on the first track!

Hi Paul and Mark. Thank you for this topic of discussion. I agree society has degraded at the expense of the core family. Today my company let go 70 out of 300 employees. No one knows why because they are making million and millions of dollars. It’s was a sad site to see good people being escorted out the door by security personnel like criminals. I guess the business didn’t make the $ they set out for and once again the people suffer. They’re saying it was a restructuring. Now those who remain will work more hours for the same pay so that the company can meet their numbers. The downfall of capitalism is corporate greed. That is why young my people today want socialism. The only way to beat socialism is for companies to step up and take care of people. If they don’t then the greed will eventually lead our great nation down to socialism. I hope when that day comes I’m no longer here to witness it.

That's terrible! Unfortunately, big corporations are loyal to their shareholders...not the men and women that make the company what it is (that's a whole other topic I can get going on😳). That's one reason I love small bussiness's so much. I will go to extreme lengths to support small bussiness. I agree, I don't want to be around to experience a society you described!
      Thanks for watching!
