Maine is listed as the 5th toughest state to harvest a deer behind Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, and Vermont. However its become my favorite to watch deer hunts and i hunt and live in far northern Wisconsin.
It’s tough because the deer haven’t been climatized to traffic, farm tractors, houses, lawn mowers, people and deer feed plots. They’re real deer, still wild and in the woods unlike many of the top states where deer hunting is like shooting lawn ornaments. The deer are so used to all the above, they’ve lost their natural fears. I’m in NB, Canada. Big bucks that live in the woods, but I do know people here that have climaritized deer in their yards that they hunt. That’s not hunting.
Glad you enjoy the hunts! I definitely will say hunting in Maine varies drastically by region. If someone simply wants to harvest a deer, southern Maine is much easier. If someone wants to hunt the big woods of northern Maine, (maybe on snow) in hopes of shooting a big, 200+ lb buck...it's a different world. That's just Maine, I'm not sure about other states...but northern Maine is my favorite place 😁
Wish you guys nothing but good luck and a little snow. Looks like you found a decent spot for buck sign. On vacation next week and hitting it everyday as the rut should be in its prime here. Using my second tag so the pressure is off. Enjoyed the video and hearing your perspectives during the season. Regards Mark
Paul.. have your dad duct tape the tractor roof crack until he can properly get it fixed…I really enjoy the videos.. our season starts tomorrow the 15th here in Michigan,, Seeing some nice bucks crossing our rural roads up our way.. The rut is in full swing.. I think it started here a week later than normal due to all the warm weather this fall.
Excellent video, good luck next week. My opening day weekend just got cancelled..after getting everything packed up to leave this morning, my hunting buddy called and had a severe kidney stone attack, his doctor advised him to stay close to home until it passes. With both of us in our mid 70’s I don’t feel comfortable going it alone 4 hours from home. Hopefully we will get out later in the season. Keep the videos coming.
Northern Maine hunter that now lives in Mid-Coast area, I gave up trying to track deer down here we usually don't get much if any tracking snow, plus the plot sizes I hunt limits how far you can travel. I started sitting all the time, in ground blinds and elevated tree stands and have done ok. Got a 125 pound doe yesterday, hadn't seen many deer, but good sign in the areas I hunt. There has been very warm days and windy too. You'll get into them sooner or later. Good luck!
I my self see those horizontal figures when I'm in the woods or even driving down the road it's something you learn and. Can't but help notice them good videos
Coyotes? I live on the southern Oregon coast and where I’m at we have a large population of coyotes. Really bad for our deer population. Didn’t know Maine had coyotes. Was thinking about moving there and visited in April
In Maine it's pretty obvious when you see a buck track. If you can set a 30-06 shell across the width of the track and it fits inside it...it's a nice buck. However, I think the best indication of a buck track vs a doe is just follow them for a little way (get big picture information). How they walk and their attitude are completely different.
congratulations to your dad he got himself a beautiful one
Really enjoying you bringing us along on the hunting journey 👍🏻
Glad you're enjoying it!
Same boat here in NH - good luck and keep plugging!
Thanks! Good luck to you too!

Come to the high peaks in upstate ny. Tough is an understatement
Me too, bud, Oneida/Vilas counties. Good luck!
And Northern Maine would be more difficult that all but maybe Vermont

Thanks! Great idea! I think he did apply some sort of sealing tape until he can get the tractor into the dealer. Good luck out there!

I agree, it's nice having large tracts of land to hunt. You don't have to worry about anything other than tracking the deer. Congrats on the doe!
It was fun huntin with you guys . I’m beat from all the walking! I need a nap. Lol.
😂 Naps are permitted! I think dad took a nap when we got back to the truck!
Great video thanks for sharing
We're glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing !
Our pleasure!
Thanks!
new sub
Appreciate it!👍

It's hard to explain to a newbee isn't it. However, most hunteras know just what your talking about!
I feel the same way about the snow. It’s not the same without it. But I work for the highway department so it’s a double edged sword
oh boy, that would be a tough position...I never thought about that😳

Yup, coyotes! They are a problem here also!
What's the difference in size of buck tracks and doe tracks?

We don't need snow in zone 17. Good luck bud.
It appears that Maine big woods with no snow is just like central Florida all year around ..... tough hunting ....
😂
Awesome channel! Love the information - question for you? Do you grunt or rattle?
Thanks! I do use calls but don't rattle. I'm usually on the move and try to limit the gear I carry😁
congratulations to your dad he got himself a beautiful one
