The BT-01 Porsche: Another fun Tamiya release!
The BT-01 hasn't been the most popular new release from Tamiya, but I think it is great! Not your average RC car. Very unique and fun to drive.

Awesome video to
Glad you enjoyed it!
That is awesome well worth it I'm planning on buying one for my little brother
Look for them on sale. They’ll turn up.
A 10.5 in that car. It must spin easy ? Your girl is right 😆 Porsche, not Porsch 🤣🤣
Yeah. May replace that motor with a 17.5…
You busy Posh guy, it's funny how your girlfriend wants zo get rid of her Fremdschämen by saying Porrrscheee into the end of the video. I have bought one of these Porsches zoo, but not built yet. It would have been nice to get stickers in another colour than red as well, as the red suits not every body paint. Do yoou think the red 'Carrera' lettering is opaque (backed with white) to get a good result on dark paints too? Greetings from Germany ;)
I don’t think it will show up well on dark paint. Might look good on light blue.
@@Triggered-RC I will probably go for a grass green, but maybe orange or yellow, because of the stickers. Thanks for the reply.
Are you getting the hornet evo? Are getting any reres that have come out again? They are rear engine, not mid engine but but technically. It should be set up the way they have it.
Might get the Super Astute.
Be good if you put some sort of clip on the motor you made so you can take off when bashing 😊
That would have been a good idea, but too late now. The motor didn’t survive. 😂
Time to rebuild lol
You never side skid in grass or loose gravel . Throws the track .Going down a steep hill or grade raise the barrel or rotate the turret behind . Steel tracks can't grip smooth concrete it acts like ice .
Good tips!
Great honest real world review 😊
Thanks!
Thanks for the video I enjoyed watching your car. I recently bought a Tamiya Neo Fighter, the only changes I made were the ball bearings and alunimun shocks. Its truely amazing how much of a beating my car has taken and it has so far has not broke. Its alot of fun. I'm tempted to buy a Manta ray next. What again where the name of the wheels and tire you used, I like the way the wheels look on your car. Thanks !
Good idea! Those wheels and tires are what came on my Kyosho Optima Mid. I run the original Optima tires on that rig.
Do you know what the gear diff part number is?
OP-1329 or 54329 depending on which is used for inventory.
Thanks for the share. What a great build! I'm 52 and about to take my first dive into kit building. Love this. I know this is a year on but after the benefit of time was the motor setup in this video a keeper (8.5T with 21 pinion)? Great colour too. Love the rusted look :)
And last question - is that LiPo 2s or 3s?
Thanks! The motor and pinion were a keeper. I think that’s about as fast as you’d want this kit to go though.
2s
them motors need castle monster mamba x esc to run at 100 percent
Maybe. I still haven’t found the time/space to run it. Gotta get on that.
Just got this on sale at Fairrc... looking forward to upgrading it for my kids as a gift.
Yes. A great choice for kids. Not too expensive and you can get some upgrades for it as well.
Link to order this model please.
They had them on presale back when this kit launched, but don’t offer it anymore. However they do offer the dual motor upgrade kit.
Thanks for this video, thats a seriously fast motor, I dont think the driveshaft failure is a major failure point considering the power you have available. Such a cool truck and great value from Asiatees.
Yes, it is a bit much on the power side. Still, I run into these issues with plastic drive shafts regularly. One thing I don’t like about the kit is the torque lift. But still, a fun kit!
Thanks for this, very rare content for this platform and brand. I dont think a composite chassis rail is an issue if its well braced. Ive had metal rail chassis that are floppy. My CC02 is pretty rigid being composite as well. Gonna watch the running video now.
ive looked far and wide across the internet for the rc car i couldn't find the same one its all just rollers and not rtr anyone know the link to buy the rc car? ( btw nice vid )
@@JustinRussell-mu9zn Can’t buy the big dual motor ones here in China anymore, just the small motor ones like they sent me. Not sure about elsewhere. I have installed the big motors and new ESCs, but haven’t had time or space to run it.
Very cool and informative
Thanks!
good review, bought the car because of the other UA-camrs and don´t like it that much out of the box. Switching esc and servo adding gyro to improve handling now. with sand paddle tires it'll be my beach racer probably
@@johnrangoo Nice! It’s not a bad rig. I upgraded the steering cups to aluminum on mine. For the money, these are great fun.
There should've been an aluminum washer in the kit that is meant for the top of the servo saver. Not pictured in the manual of course. Another missing instruction is using the same aluminum washers to capture the lower rear shocks, which you've already done. I was surprised the manual didn't explain using the silicone grease for the differential balls, or using the black grease for gears and the thrust bearing.
@@angrymelon Yeah, there was two cups of lubricant. I used the grease but have my own stuff for diffs. Lots left out of the manual.
A bit sad you put all that awesome decoration work on a truck that's rather meh. Looking forward to that Tamiya build.
@@soma_rc The truck is fine if you are nostalgic. But I really do think that Team Associated needs to put in more effort. The Tamiya BT01 will be finished Sunday, if it isn’t raining. Should have a new video up in a week or so.
@@Triggered-RC not old enough to be nostalgic for that car :-)
The yellow windows look like the color of a Gameboy screen.
@@melspadt Nice. I never thought of that! Might try to get some gameboy style decals for the windshield.
AE is dropping the ball with these kits. Saw someone have the same problem with the top shaft on an rc10ds. The old manuals are more detailed. My rc10ds is in its box still, and a B7 with a defect on the chassis that they won't wattenty is right beside it. Can't imagine nostalgia for associated winning any arguments in the future. The T sure looks nice though.
It could have been a much better experience with a) a decent manual, b) quality control on machining, c) and updates like new link ends, metric hardware, and revisions to update it for the modern day like a modern slipper clutch assembly, ball bearings, etc.
You actually made the 8-bit rc!
@@tomconnors8165 😂 Thanks!
Great filming as usual.
@@lydiaweber2417 You’re welcome 😇
Brilliant project right there! I’m a big Mario fan💪
I just picked up an LMT and it takes a bit of skill to drive. The shocks are probably designed for stunts rather than bashing. I already bent 2 shock shafts. Sorry to see your rear axel break. You did a great job covering the LMT and showing us so great action.
@@RCRoads That hit was massive though, and the shocks were fine!
@@Triggered-RC I guess I had some bad landings. I really do like the LMT and hope to learn how to drive better. 😁👍
That's a nice looking Manta Ray, what is the translucent blue paint you used on the window? Tamiya PS-39?
@@ZIppy48 yes, PS39
@@Triggered-RC Thanks!
@@ZIppy48 Yes, but I notice I also have a can of PS38, which is a darker blue. However, I do think it was the PS39. I used the PS38 on my Losi22T. I should really write this stuff down when I build 😂
@@Triggered-RC Thank's again for the info, your Manta Ray looks so much better than the boxart version 🔥
deee-kal not deck-all 👍
Nice but for the price you find 1/8 ! so better fot TT ! like Hobao SC or Hyper pro Truggy ! but when we like , we don't count ! i count now after ten RC !! ;) have fun !
@@guillaumepliez1427 It’s a much better RC than I was expecting.
Hey could you help me in gettin the front bumper assembly, I am in bombay and need my og buggy fixed
Tengo uno igual y estoy enanorado. Tengo rc de todo tipo pero este tanque es mi favorito.👍👏
You should try change the centre bearings instead of new flywheel. Bad bearings will destroy the main shaft.
@@aussiedigger1441 I have heard that the bearing goes bad quickly. Will replace.
@@Triggered-RCthose washers in flywheel are called wave washers and they are in most electric rc helicopters motors, completely normal. That fan on esc is horrible and I'm going to try a hobbywing esc fan.
6th pack in & mine straight up didn't work anymore for my next drive? Maybe esc or flywheel stator? Haven't seen many people with this problem.
nice video! Bough week ago from an auction a stock durga and searching for great and must upgrades your video help me to understand that the cvd (universal shafts) are neccesary. What I ordered was: -Buggy aeration oil shocks -trf501x setting spring set - reinforced drive belt (2 pcs) - aluminum damper bushing (4 pcs) -trf501x stabilizer set - slipper clutch set - aluminum steering post - assembly universal shaft (front and rear) - aluminum suspension block (4 pcs) -4wd buggy aluminuym hex hubs (front and rear) -aluminum susspension mount (front and rear) Thought to get the carbon fiber dampers but maybe will be a nice to have upgrade more than neccesary. cheers from Mexico!
@@badelife Nice! But you can spend a fortune upgrading this kit. RCKicks did a series about it. Still, it’s actually quite a capable modern buggy when you are done.
@@Triggered-RC saw it and thought about to get a Team Ass and other brand more capable and cheaper but this is my first buggy and my first major tamiya build and want it to be a special one. Not all the possible expensive hop ups but the must have one's. Love the durga looks btw
@@badelife It’s a great car. Much better than the Avante, for example. But that is also one that is worth building.
The Tamiya Wild one was my first RC car. I built it probably about 1987 or 88, Futaba Trans and Receiver. Upgraded then to a Trinity Monster Horsepower motor. Put lots of hours on it. Then marriage and other things happened and it went in to storage. Pulled it out a few times and found my batteries were just not what they used to be but it still ran. Fast forward to today and, thanks to my dog, I bought a Traxxas Stampede BL-2S so I could tie one of my dogs toys to it and run him around the yard to burn energy. Soon after, the Stampede got upgraded to a Velineon 3500 and its associated ESC. Since I now had a BL-2s motor and ESC sitting around doing nothing, I started looking at my old Wild One. Long story short...My Wild One now has a BL-2S 3300 and associated ESC. Got another steering servo and receiver. Today was the first test run. After examining my pinion gear, 15T, it was pretty worn. I figured putting in the 18T was a better option (less torque with new motor) and I also set the ESC up for training mode for the initial test. It ran fine but it was about as fast or a little slower than stock. I then put the ESC in Sport mode. Wow, I don't think the Wild One has ever gone that fast. You'll need to either shorten the motor mount screws or use a small #6 nut to use as a spacer so the screws don't rub the fan in the 3300 motor. Also had to dremel out the red gear cover so it would fit back on. The receiver fit where the batteries for the old receiver were. I can't use the plastic driver piece anymore due to where the ESC mounts. The antenna mount is now inside the roll cage. It was a fun, easy and quick upgrade. Waiting for parts took the longest. Oh, I also rebuilt the shocks.
@@ChrisH-z8o You’ve done a lot of work! The Tamiya’s are special. Not sure the modern rtr rigs from the likes of Traxxas, Losi, and Arrma really stand up in many ways. There’s just something special about building from a kit!
What type of paint do you use on the driver? Would regular acrylic paints be ok? Do you clear coat him afterwards?
@@CollinBaillie I use acrylic usually, although for some colors I have oil. A flat clear would be good on a driver figure. Can’t remember if I used that on this one or not though. Clear coat is not necessary, and you have to be a bit careful if you are mixing and matching types or brands of paint as sometimes, adding a coat over top will cause paint to liquify and run together. I’ve had this happen on lexan figures where I backed the paint in black, like my Kyosho Tomahawk driver’s body.
Good tip on the bottom of the shocks. My Javelin was not sitting correctly and the springs rubbed. Your video explained what was wrong and it is fixed now. It was my first build so I did not know how they fit.
@@anthonymiller8979 Thanks! Glad I could help.

Nice. Just bought one of these for the same purpose
Will you put to compete in a rally competition? Maybe amateur competition? I like to see against another chasis. I hope something interesting of this upgraded chassis
I would like to, but there just aren’t any dirt or rally tracks here. I think it would do alright though.
Did you have to modify anything while putting shocks on ball joints or did they pop rite in I got some that come with a brass insert but 2 small and once I pop it out it’s 2 big any idea what kind of shocks to use ?
Liked your trike and would like to know more about the Kawada wheels and the tires. I think I found the Kawada wheels at Banzai Hobby Japan that are out of stock now (where did get yours from?) and most of all (I know it's been 2 years) I would like to know the brand and part # for the tires that you used? @@Triggered-RC, Thank You so much and I hope you still run it once in a while.
The motor thing happened to me in 1980, as a 15-year-old, driving my Sand Scorcher for the first time, trying to do a jump.
Do you remember the size of the shocks you got ?
I think they were the same length as the ones that came on it… maybe a couple mm longer.
Would make a nice looking oval racer with that tire set up just need a big wing on the top
How important do you feel that little bit of rear suspension is over the "first" version of this car? I am mainly going to run in very smooth lots, tennis and basketball courts, no racing, no carpet and rather infrequent use as I am mainly a buggy guy. Thanks
@@anthonymiller8979 I don’t have the first version of this car, but my guess is that it could only help. I don’t think racing the 2 versions back to back with the same setups would produce vastly different lap times, but I would expect that even on the hardest and smoothest of tracks, that the rear suspension would help keep the rear tires better planted and should improve handling enough to have a faster time.
@@Triggered-RC Thanks, pretty much decided today to go with the sprung version
