Thank you for all your examples. I wonder why didn’t you recommend to skip the switch at all and connect all devices directly into the gateway? Especially when it is the Gateway Max. There are enough free Ethernet ports in all your examples in the gateway.

The UDM-SE is still the best option. The little gateways don’t have PoE, only one has WiFi, and one has camera storage. When will an all-in-one device come out besides the Dream Wall?

The No Storage version has no SSD tray included. You have to buy it seperate for 20$.

The 2.5GB Switch does have a couple of extra features over the original Flex Mini. If you want 2.5GB, then the Mini 2.5G is a good option and at a good price. It depends on what your use case is. It's the incremental progression of the original Flex Mini.

The video explained exactly what I wanted to know, that is "can the angle of the camera lens be fix?" and also how the camera mechanisms are secured. Good video. I've seen other installation videos on UA-cam but they skip these installation points.

I’m slowly learning but I love the idea and modular capability of Ubiquiti’s UniFi stuff and I’m planning it for my house at the moment… I’m just unsure of certain things like can I have my internet line in directly from my ONT or does it have to come through the ISP’s wireless router?

Great video. I am about to do the same thing. Added an extra AP to my UDR config and getting ready to do a backup and restore. I don't have any protect configured on the use so it should be easy enough.

That tracking is pretty bad for this price point. You can get a hikvision with 25x optical zoom with a much better lens for this price.

Hey been watching quite many of your Unifi videos. A question here. Is there any easy way to save/migrate my config from TP-Link when I move to Unifi? As in my devices IPs etc. Or do I have to set up everything manually again by assigning the devices one by one?

Another point you didn't cover is that if you have the cloud gateway max, you could put a 2.5g server and pc directly on that and your other devices like AP's on a regular flex mini eliminating the need for the 2.5g. The only reason I plan to get it is for future proofing as I plan to add more devices to my network that can capitalize on it and the max doesn't have enough ports

Do I need a dual WAN modem for the UCGU? I'm guessing the LAN to WAN will not work as I've tried and the speed drastically drops?

i saw ad blocking as an option in your video but you skipped over it, i was wondering how good is this feature in unifi as that may save having to mess around wih pi hole or adguard home

For 20 bucks more, is a no brainer, even if you don't take full advantage now is only a matter of time you will, all major NAS are now 2.5 ( except the obsolete machines from sinology ), all new motherboards and mini pcs are almost all 2.5, yeah is time we leave the 30 years old 1GB technology behind.

Is it fine to use tp link poe switch? Unifi switch are much more expensive. Just gonna use it for a basic home setup

I loved Unifi when I first setup my home network. A nice option for the prosumer market. But frankly, their switch lineup needs a conplete overhaul. The pricing and features just haven't keot up and the offerings are a bit eclectic given the dearth of higher speed ports. Fancy lights on a 1G switch while the market is moving towards 2.5/5/10G is a little late. And the gateway lineup is similarly stunted by mixxingimited 2.5G ports and 1G ports.

Great video. I have tplink omada setup but like the flex mini for it's POE in so I can power field devices from main POE switch in comms cupboard. Problem is tplink don't have any 4port POE IN switch 😮 they only have a 5port POE out, with DC power in. Really unusual. Would like to switch all unifi but total hardware cost is about 20% more than tplink. Might endup with just a unifi flex mini switch and rest stay omada lol

Great review, thanks! I wish the tracking and auto focus was a lot more advanced though. The official tracking subject video/gif on Ubiquiti website of its use shows a constant tracking with smooth motion never stopping. I wish it actually has this behavior but it would need some really good auto focusing to make the subject not blurry. If they cant do that for some reason, I do wish it tracked a bit ahead of the subject like everything is mentioning. I really hope the tracking software gets some major improvements soon.

Thanks for making the video. It was useful to watch you confirm my planning etc. I have just successfully migrated from my UDR to UCG-Max - albeit with one false start. I ran the setup from the iOS app and once the firmware upgrade had run, the config restore seemed to stall. I had to factory reset and this time it all ran smoothly. It seems the firmware upgrade was one step too far! I'm now waiting for Protect to enable the usage of 3rd party ONVIF cameras before I can try bringing my Reolink cameras into the system, so I got the UCG Max without any storage. I can't seem to find much information about how much storage I will need for 3 x 4K cameras and the video doorbell and didn't want to waste money getting the wrong size from UI. I'm definitely getting better usage of my 1Gig UP/DOWN even with all IDS/IPS turned on.
