Thank you Bogdan! Great video. I'll follow your advices to migrate my UDR, but i'm also using an UCK-G2 for protect as a slave device of my UDR (only with protect app installed). I suppose that the same will work with the UCK? I used it because UDR is limited in terms of amount of 2k and 4k cameras.
Should be similar. You won’t be able to access the last footage on UCK. But when you migrate the cameras, the old footage will remain on the UCK. Just FYI.
Great video. I am about to do the same thing. Added an extra AP to my UDR config and getting ready to do a backup and restore. I don't have any protect configured on the use so it should be easy enough.
Thanks for making the video. It was useful to watch you confirm my planning etc. I have just successfully migrated from my UDR to UCG-Max - albeit with one false start. I ran the setup from the iOS app and once the firmware upgrade had run, the config restore seemed to stall. I had to factory reset and this time it all ran smoothly. It seems the firmware upgrade was one step too far! I'm now waiting for Protect to enable the usage of 3rd party ONVIF cameras before I can try bringing my Reolink cameras into the system, so I got the UCG Max without any storage. I can't seem to find much information about how much storage I will need for 3 x 4K cameras and the video doorbell and didn't want to waste money getting the wrong size from UI. I'm definitely getting better usage of my 1Gig UP/DOWN even with all IDS/IPS turned on.
Nice! Are you 3x 4k cameras Reolink? The ONVIF support doesn’t have many options so far. Meaning that you can only record footage continuously-not on motion.
@@ApexOneTech yes All Reolink cameras. I’m holding off moving to Protect until they add more functionality for Onvif cameras. The current HomeKit integration works well enough for the time being albeit with lower resolution.
Hi Bogdan, I'm thinking of updating my UDR. I can't decide if I should go for UCG-Max or UDM-SE. Which one do you think is more future-prof? I have a Gig connection, 2 APs, 1 cam, and about 50 devices always connected. Currently, my main issue is the huge cut I have on the internet. I use only 30-50% of the 1 GB connection. Should I wait until CES2025? Keep up the good work!
UDM-SE is more “future proof” with SFP+ and a full size HDD. But a UCG-Max would just fine for what you laid out. If price is not an issue, and form factor doesn’t matter, then UDM-SE.
Nice video. Can you say what the UCG Max temperature and CPU utilisation looks like? My UCG Ultra typically sits at 38 centigrade and I suppose averages 40% CPU, with a 140mbps connection, about twice as many devices, VPN server and no Protect. It varies between 10% to 80%, so I have a feeling the Max, with the exact same CPU as the Ultra, may struggle when I get 1gbps connection and possibly Protect.
Thanks! Yes, runs hot. Also about 40% CPU, 80 degree Celsius :) it’s in a closet but otherwise it’s air conditioned. Honestly, that seems very hot to me. Not sure why. I know it’s meant to be on a desk and that might help. I am running protect and adding additional cameras weekly to stress test it. However, I will say my internet speeds on 1 gig are fine.
@@ApexOneTech Yes. I think it has a small fan compared with the ultra, which should help, but the 2.5GBE ports and SSD would generate a lot more heat. Even if it is designed for temps like this it makes me nervous. I prefer more headroom. So I have replaced my relatively new Ultra with a UDM Pro to get started with Protect. This may actually work out cheaper to use a 3.5" HD than NVME.
Is there any way to make use of the UDR after the upgrade or best just to sell it? Can the nvme in the max be used for file sharing instead of video recording?
I would sell the UDR. Nothing else to do with it. The storage on the max is only for Protect. Maybe they’ll add the new application UniFi Drive to it. That would be cool but I have no idea when or if that will happen.
Hey been watching quite many of your Unifi videos. A question here. Is there any easy way to save/migrate my config from TP-Link when I move to Unifi? As in my devices IPs etc. Or do I have to set up everything manually again by assigning the devices one by one?
I can't think of any way. When we migrate customers to UniFi, we just document their current setup, any static and fixed IPs, and just make sure it gets configured the same way on the UniFi network.
I believe the UCG Max can only deal with 1.5Gbps throughput so you're not going to get more than that. You'd have to go up to a UDM of some variant to get a minimum of 3.5Gbps routing capacity to get full 2 gig speed.
As others have said, 1.5 G with full detection turned on. You could limit the threat types and see if you get higher throughput. But really, you need to go UDM.
This channel very good for education too 👍🏼
Thanks for your feedback

This worked like a charm. Just converted mine following the same process. Flawless
Glad it helped!

I only have a 50 mb Internet will this work?
I have 2 gig internet... What could I expect in terms of performance with intrusion protection enabled?
