    Nice logical loadout. I have personally moved toward not compressing the quilt and other insulation. They still go in a waterproof bag, but I just fold the top over and then push the rest of the pack’s contents on top. This more closely aligns to Mike Clelland’s OG ultralight philosophy of making the pack softer against the back. After experimenting, I was surprised to find that compressing all of the soft stuff didn’t make an appreciable difference in overall pack size. My guess is that all of the other items conform better and don’t leave wasted space. More comfy, too. YMMV.

    Most people (myself included) put its matress folded in a rectangular shape placed against the back. Why don't you do that? I do it and feels more confortable than what you so where you can have like a crest in the middle of your bag. Good video as always!

    • @OutdoorOtaku
      @OutdoorOtaku 55 хвилин тому

      That's a good point! I have tested it before. Believe it or not, i feel like it's more comfortable without the pad. With the pad against the back it feels bulky. Once i put the pack on, the crest conforms to my body. the only issue is if the food bag wasn't placed in correctly. a quick adjustment can make it flat. Also, another smaller issue is that the pad will get soaked if i put it there. Not just with rain, but sweat as well. Since i took out most of the back material on the c9111 except for some mesh, moisture from my back travels through it very easily. I'm definitely the odd one out! i do know a lot of people recommend this. Everyone should definitely try both options to see what they prefer. Thank you for bringing this up.

      no i do not. However from what i can see, they are two very different packs. One being a more traditional 40l frameless backpack and the other being a vest style 30l pack. I think it really depends on what you want to do with the pack and the gear you have. if you still dont know, just get the c9111. it's cheaper and if you cant use it backpacking, you can use it for so many other things. Nice review mate, I was actually pretty into the pack (with mods) until you mentioned the strap gap. Your aonijie 30l review was great too, i bought both the 20 and 30l packs after watching it. Both are great packs and comfortable, although the 20 is a little small for the hip belt. I also bought the Anmeilu 30l which is pretty much the aonijie 30L with the hipbelt of the 20L. Its advertised as 2 inches longer than both aonijie packs at 50cm/20 inches, but its actually 40cm/ 16 inches. Only for very short people unfortunately. Nice pack otherwise

    • @OutdoorOtaku
      @OutdoorOtaku 7 днів тому

      yeah the strap gap is what really killed this pack for me. it's unfortunate since it has potential. WELCOME TO THE AONIJIE PACK PACK! 😈i love converting people oh, i didnt know that pack existed. pretty cool. so it's body length is shorter than the aonijie c9111?

    • @MovementDrifter
      @MovementDrifter 5 днів тому

      @@OutdoorOtaku yeah it's all round smaller in depth width and height on the body, and end to end on the foam back at the longest point it's 16 inches and the c9111 is 18. It fits me fine apart from the hip belt is a stomach belt unless I'm pretty much at max trap length. I'm about 6ft 2 Although most fast packs including the c9111 seem to fit a bit better higher on your back like a running vest, so maybe I'm just not destined to own a fastpack with a comfortable hip belt haha (at least at budget prices)

    • @OutdoorOtaku
      @OutdoorOtaku Годину тому

      @@MovementDrifter that's very interesting. you'd think it's the same pack body. it looks so similar. I kinda wanna give it a try now that i know its not the exact same capacity. lol yeah most fastpacks have belly belts that ride around the waist rather than hips. i hate it cause my belly wants to be free especially after munchin on food. I dont use them now, but when i first started looking at packs that was a feature i really wanted. The only fastpacks i know of that does have actual hip belts are the ultraspire epic xt and i think some packs from montane. IIRC they also have actual stiff frames. so the hipbelt can help distribute the weight. in the end i opted against it as i found it limited my movement too much.

    Just got this pack and it honestly does look pretty well-made so far. Thanks for the review and gear mods! I'm going to be testing it out a good amount over the next few weeks and see how it feels. I'm not a trail runner but I do lots of hiking and trail running has interested me for a while. I'm also thinking about some of my own gear mods after seeing what you've done. My first though was coating a few spots of the backpack in Silicone to increase durability and give it a few waterproof sections. Then possibly adding a low-friction fabric, currently looking at Lycocell, around the top of the shoulder straps to reduce any friction that might happen while in-use. Appreciate your in-depth review and enthusiasm for your gear and activities.

    • @OutdoorOtaku
      @OutdoorOtaku 7 днів тому

      im glad you found the video helpful! Have you tested it yet? let me know what you think. trail running is a lot of fun. For a weekend warrior like me, sometimes i gotta run in order to accomplish my goals. silicone seam sealant would be a great idea. however note that the pack material itself isn't 100% waterproof like dyneema or ultra. It is coated with something on the inside, but that will eventually wear out as mine has. It will still help though. ive never heard of Lycocell, that's interesting. i'd say test the pack first. It may not be necessary. I've never found friction to be an issue. In fact, i actually prefer the body facing fabric to be a little bit rough. that way it wont slide / bounce around too much. i have another pack called the raidlight revolutiv 24l that is made out of a very slick material. it bounces like crazy due to what i believe is the material and many other things. I like how your are thinking! keep the ideas coming.

      @@OutdoorOtaku I had the chance to take it out on a few hikes and bike rides since my last comment. Overall I've been very impressed by the functionality of it. Large enough to hold anything I'd want on a day trip, but still very functional. It hugs my back well, even when I'm scrambling over a fallen tree or riding a bike. I think I agree there are a few too many straps and loose details/pockets that could be removed. I may just use silicone to coat the bottom panel for increased durability. The process I intended to use can coat entire swathes of the fabric but it's probably a bit prohibitive to do that to every part of the backpack. And like you mentioned it would make it quite slippery at that point. You're completely right about the Lycocell being unnecessary. So far I haven't had any discomfort from the straps, and definitely no lasting marks or friction burns. I intend to keep using it as my day-trip pack for the foreseeable future so if I come up with any new plans or ideas I'll be sure to swing back by!

    Let me start by saying i enjoyed watching you change the backpack to fit your needs. My question is wouldn't it have been better to just make a bag with backpack straps? You removed all the features i thought useful. The big one being the zipper. That is useful for finding stuff when bag is full. I would have liked to see away to improve it. Maybe reinforce the zipper. I don't understand removing the frame. At that point it is just a Landry bag with straps. I really like the bottom pocket. Don't necessarily agree with your project but i enjoy your skill and sharing your work. So you have a new Sub. Have a good one !

      Hey Richard, thanks for the feedback. To answer your question in regards to making my own pack... how do i put this... im lazy haha but in all seriousness, i'm not a great sewer and pretty busy. I treat sewing as a way to alter something to fit me better rather than create something from scratch. One day i'd love to be able to make my own pack, but im still a bit aways from that. The smaller zip pocket at the top of the pack works better as a quick access pocket than the side IMO. i found the side to be difficult to use since when the pack is full, it can be hard to close. I also didnt use it often. but i can totally see why someone would like to keep it as well. Removing the frame is to save on weight as well as be able to bring your own frame. If you use a sit pad or a 1/8" pad you can swap that with the frame it came with. You can use both, but it's not really necessary. Or if you pack your bag carefully you can get away with no frame. I'll post a video soon on packing this bag w/o a frame. Some of these mods i agree are not 100% necessary. For example, removing the plastic part in the roll top barely saved any weight. But how do we know if we don't try! Thanks for watching and subbing! looking forward to your feedback on more of my videos.

    Was hoping to use this as a run-commuter pack, do you know if it'll hold a 15" laptop?

    Beide Videos über den C9111 sind hervorragend und veranlassten mich, den Rucksack zu kaufen. Ich verstand zwar mangels genügend Englischkenntnissen so gut wie nichts, aber das Anschauen reichte bereits. Besten Dank.

    Good honest review, I have the Distance 8, Distance 15, and the Black Diamond Ski Cirque Vest 22L. The trekking pole on the go attachment is almost impossible to use for me, looks cool on paper, not so much in the field. I have tried so many ways for carrying trekking poles, I do ultra running races (50milers), I have found the best thing for me is carrying them on a waist belt, but in my experience and my fitness, once the trekking poles come out, I usually keep them out for the rest of the race. I wish one of these companies also made a running vest/pack that has a pouch in the shoulder strap that is designed to hold a Garmin inReach.. REI has this on sale, but I am going to hold off and am waiting for the UltraAspoire Epic XT 20L that is coming out in July.

      YES! a fellow waist belt trekking pole user. It's become my favorite way of carrying as well. You should check out my review/comparison of the Aonijie c9111 vs the UD 30. The c9111 has a shoulder strap pocket that is perfect for the inreach and other PLBs. it's my favorite pack

    I’m not overly concerned about trying to reduce the weight of any of my packs that much but I really appreciate your willingness to modify your pack to suit your needs and your attention to detail is impressive. Great video

    Great video! I loved your video review of the jacket with and without its alterations too. I am interested in if you noticed any down leaking from the seams you sewed? And i think your machine does have a reverse stitch, the stitch length selection lever if you flip it upwards completely it will reverse. Or so it seems anyways. Little feedback maybe add "MYOG" in the title or description, this acronym is used often to search for this kind of content as it stand for "make your own gear".

      @OutdoorOtaku 7 днів тому

      Thank you David! appreciate the kind words. No i have not noticed any down leakage. however my usage was only like half a winter. omg no way thats a game changer if i can reverse. thank you LOL. i have it is a box now since im doing some work to my basement. but ill need to check once i have it set up. Adding MYOG is a good idea. however is it truly MYOG? IDK if the myogers will accept me if its just mods :(

    A very useful and insightful review, thank you! I have a 1st generation UD Fastpack 30 that I've used quite a bit, and am looking to replace it. You didn't mention any comparison of the bag fabrics between the 2 brands, especially as to if they are coated and potentially waterproof (I know that the bag isn't seam-sealed or taped, so not actually waterproof, but it could become so if the fabric is coated.

      my pleasure, glad you found it helpful. I did miss that! The c9111 is coated with something on the inside, but mine has since been wearing out. I assume the UD30 is also coated with something?
