It's a misconception, it is a good deinterlacer but a lot of people don't like the Bob deinterlacing characteristic:) Either use passthrough to let the display deinterlace instead if you'd prefer that:)

From my own testing, it depends on the game :) In Gran Turismo 4 it is more demanding when using 480p or 1080i but in other games the performance difference is minor :) It also depends on if you are using software or hardware rendering modes :)

I'm glad I hope you enjoy the experience:) Actually no, a good scart cable can be sync on Composite too (The Sony Official RGB SCART Cable seen in this video has that) but if you are looking for a new cheap great SCART cable, Retro Gaming Cables has them & yes those are sync on luma :) They will have one for PS1 & PS2 since PS2 cables require capacitors within the cable to look their best :) I love the Sega Saturn, one of my favourite consoles & that also supports RGB SCART cables as well :) Definitely recommend S-Video or RGB for that system!

@@TheAffroShowGameplay awesome thanx for replying so fast! i will listen to your advice and NOT get a cheap scart from aliexpress i will buy the one on Retro Gaming Cables. i saw your sega saturn vid and i thought that s video looked incredible on the sega saturn. i will write you as soon as i have my saturn. always wanted one but my dad got me a ps1 instead :) love your vids i keep coming back! this old tv i got is amazing, 2 scarts,1 component,1 rgb,1 svideo and even 1 vga input is increidlbe!!. take care mate!!

I look forward to the update but, I do strongly suggest getting SCART for the Saturn as quality S-Video cables are hard to find but quality SCART cables are easy :D

This is an older video now so important improvements have been made & of course settings can be changed :) Plus it looks flat because I hadn't fixed the contrast settings at the tike :) Sadly not many PS2 games had 480p progressive scan modes although some can be forced using Free MCBoot buy, everyone has a different taste on PS2 graphics:)

@TheAffroShowGameplay I like ps2 graphics and honestly woth 480p like tekken many look amazing .issue is maybe if the emulators added maybe some bloom or etc lighting effects would improve some flat lighting on ps2 games

Not always :) Depends on the title & some games actually ran well on the Saturn (The Need For Speed comes to mind). I agree most of the Saturn ports were inferior, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth playing :)

@TheAffroShowGameplay Wipepout 3 for PS1 was the game to put the final nail in the coffin for anyone thinking saturn had potential.coz that game went hi-rez played and looked better than past Wipeouts on PS1 it was much improved.i can't think of any saturn game that made me have a 2nd look.even castlevania sotn on saturn was an embarrassment....and saturn was supposed to be the 2D powerhouse system.

@Final_Fantasy_7 Again it depends on the game :) Games like X-Men Vs Street Fighter was an embarrassment on PS1 & Duke Nukem 3D was better on Sega Saturn over PS1 :) As stated earlier I agree the PS1 had overall much better ports & a better library of games but don't write off the Saturn:) Had one for 5 years now & I very much love the hidden gems on it!

I've since played more 2D games & it certainly is fantastic in this department 😊

I'm using an RGT SCART Cable with a switcher as I described in the video:) It is a custom cable sold by Retro Gaming Cables & it is my preferred way to get VGA on Dreamcast 😊

If you mean the combing artifacts, unfortunately I do not think so, I've looked before & there's no deinterlacing option available :o It is worth seeing on Google if anyone has found a mod solution or if OpenEmu has deinterlacing options in newer versions as this video is well over two years old now :)

Because I don't have the equipment to properly drive them, I'll have to disagree but, I know the sound quality would be amazing otherwise & I do enjoy the sound signature of these :)

@@TheAffroShowGameplay If you can get your hands on a Philips CD960 (legendary machine) with the HD420, you "may" change your mind :) that's if you like studio sound however.

It is actually 1080i as demonstrated here, at least for PS2 :) I couldn't believe it either but it does work & even on PS3 it'll work up to 480p :) Not sure how or why it works but, you don't need Component as long you have a device or monitor capable of RGsB :)

@ROX99 The Sony Official RGB SCART Cable supports it as shown in this video too :) I'm not sure about cheaper non branded cables, I assume so but no matter the cable, you need an upscaler or display that supports RGsB otherwise 480p & above resolutions won't display when using RGB SCART :)

A shame asa otherwise the Saturn version is playable as the controls are actually a little bitter over the PS version, but I do understand that this port is not for everyone because of the low frame rates :)

While I respect your opinion & I do understand why many, many people think this, I have to disagree back :) First off, if this is the case, why did game developers or Sony bother making all the effort to make the PS2 support 480p or all these other cables? While dithering & jaggies are common on PS2, even 480i games had dithering sometimes (Colin McRae Rally 04 had loads). Also, I recently went to a games festival in the UK & they had CRT's running RGB SCART & guess what I saw on them when playing PS2 games... Yes, dithering xD I feel most people are so accustomed to Composite on a CRT when playing PS2 that everyone assumes it is the only way when it isn't, not even in the CRT world:) Ultimately, we can decide & choose how we want our games to look & if this is your preference, fair enough but this is not for everyone, especially not me & never has been, not even when this was the norm back in the 2000s!

I Noticed that blurriness image from composite cable is not noticeable and its crisp enough in my eyes when it's played on consumer CRT TV. When i plug on Flat TV the AV Cable is indeed the worst output compared to other.

@sanggakurnia I do understand & thank you:) On a CRT Composite is workable but I always loved RGB SCART & always will but I hope you are enjoying the experience, that's the most important thing :)

Oh I know, I've used this emulator for years & I made more videos about it (This is so old now), but I agree it is a great emulator & one of my favourites yet!

I've never had an issue with input lag on Duckstation:)

This was a mod I brought pre-made but it has a Hard Drive mod & new software that allows for DVD disk copying & changes the bio to allow NTSC resolutions :)

You could do this, but this means your monitor has to deinterlace 480i/576i for most PS2 games & if it can, the experience using a good component cable should work :) If not, get an upscaler like the Retrotink 2x, Retroscaler 2x or a RAD2x cable :) The OSSC I use is also recommended!

If it's a TV the display will automatically do it as it has one built in :) As for monitors I assume the same thing would happen but if not, you'd either need to use software like OBS which has several options (Yadif 2x I'd recommend or Retro which is bob deinterlacing) :) Or perhaps video players like QuickTime which can double as video input solutions might have this too although OBS is more flexible :)

They are both NTSC & all regions support RGB, although Japan has JP-21 which only works there but is still RGB quality :) The Saturn in this video used custom Component cables which give it RGB quality :)

I definitely feel the Saturn could have been better in the frame rate department but, despite this, it is still fun to play :)

Hmmmm, I've heard mixed responses on those cables. As a starter cable I guess it is not a bad way to go but a retroscaler 2x, retortink 2x or a RAD2x cable would look better and not cost too much more :) If the cable you own allows you to use PS2 progressive scan mode (480p) in selected titles, that would be a compelling option as 480p is a great way to view PS2 games where possible!

@@TheAffroShowGameplay LevelHike upscales all RGB signals from PS2 to 720p. It also has 4x3 and 16x9 selector switch. It is trchnically a small box that sells for approx 30$. I been using for 5 years and like it a lot.

While I love the idea, it would be prephaps too time consuming & we must factor in PAL & NTSC demo disks so I don't think it is feasible without mass donations & time xD

Oh I have plenty of those videos, on my channel simply put Duckstation vs Real PS1 hardware & all videos besides my first attempt use the OSSC against Duckstation when Duckstation is enhanced:) Also again, they look the same when Duckstation is in software rendering mode, not in others such as Open GL or Vulkan if you choose to enhance the graphics of PS1 games :)

They can be using Free MCBoot but even then the results may not work or could be worse than standard output so bear this in mind :)

I actually disagree here, the OSSC is better than the Portta in everyday:) Better graphics, better deinterlacing & much better built along with more support to play more systems thanks to it having RGB SCART & VGA along with Component:) Also there's less image lag & the image itself is far better on OSSC:) The Portta might be a good start to get back into retro gaming but a much better option would be the Retrotink 2x, the Retroscaler 2x, a RAD2X cable or even emulation :)

@@TheAffroShowGameplay In the comparisons you made, it looked better on ps2 with portta than with ossc

The OSSC was much better, admittedly it was using Passthrough mode so it may have not been as sharp at the time but it has a 4x mode which would blow the portta away & it has much better 480p support:) If you also look carefully the portta has PS2 image errors unlike the OSSC:)

This is your preference & that is a good way to play the games but I personally love the Dreamcast's 480p Via VGA & its very sharp output:)

No, sadly if you force 480p via Free MCBoot with PAL games that don't have a 60hz option, the game speed will be off by 17.5% :) Best to use 576p in this case :)

At least now you know how to get the best out of the XBOX :)

It is not so simple, I need to do an updated version of this because I use the OSSC with my PS2 & I prefer its results, however preference will play a part :)
