I made a Bb piccolo (Sopranissimo?) clarinet pitched one octave above the standard Bb clarinet! The body of this instrument was 3D printed and the keys were 3D modeled by me and cast in brass by Shapeways. www.shapeways.com/

French sounds better in my opinion
What kind of reed does ir use?
A custom one made specifically for it.
Instrument sounds like a fart💀
Hi Jared! Thanks for informative video. How much does this saxophone and instrument case weigh in total in kilos? Is the bassaxophone case same size as a baritone case?
It weighs 21Kg. It's significantly bigger than a bari sax case.
Thanks for Quick response!
So the case weigh 12,4 kilos and the saxophone weigh 8,6 kilos according to Thomanns website! Incredible heavy case!
I thought it would be a video of how to put it together
It’s just a standard Bb clarinet, assembly will be the same as most other clarinets.
@@Jared_De_Leon im having trouble with the mouthpiece, looks simple. but while playing. all i hear is the mouthpiece. not the actual barrel of the clarinet. when i remove the mouthpice. it sounds the same as if it was on the actual clarinet...
@@Socalrg69 I would have your clarinet instructor try it out and see if they can identify the problem. It may have been damaged in shipping in that case.
Very good points about how not all Chinese clarinet bodies are horrible.
Omg thank you I freaked the f#ck out when this happened to me so I googled if it was a bad break so your video is so freaking helpful that I’m not panicking like hell rn thanks
Make a 3 Contrabassoon or Contraforte, please.
I think the German one is more to my taste it’s more of a bass sound to it
WOW what more can I say!!!!
That’s kool!
You are full of GREAT knowledge!
I really like the curved sound but both are great!
Is there anything you can’t do??? You’re the best!
That is so kool!!!
Hey Jared it’s “mi mommy” your aunt Kendra I just wanted to let you now how proud I am of you I really enjoy watching your you tube videos. You’re so talented and have grown up to be an amazing man. I love you xoxo
What about when the D/A key is stuck like I can’t press down on it.
Make sure the spring is engaged properly. If so then take it to a repair tech.
The French bore sounds more defined and mellow but was almost sounding like a saxophone. German bore sounds more like a clarinet. But the german bore also lacks the low C.
Very good Super sound
Online custom?
Never heard of them, this was all done on my personal printer.
Hot boss cruns
What reeds would you recommend with the bass mouthpiece you used?
Legere 2.5 is my favorite.
@@Jared_De_Leon Alright! Would you mind also leaving a link for the ligature you used as well?
I love you so much for this video thank you
No this is just wrong
Is there one in between the turkish G clarinet and the alto clarinet?
Yes, the basset horn in F and the alto clarinet in F.
Looks 3d printed, do you public the stl?
So amazing! I hope for a basset/basset extension 3d print model! 🥺
Straight definitely sounds more like a soprano clarinet.
Man that instrument looks awesome with the wide keywork, sounds good too. This summer I'm planning of making some keyed instruments, so thanks for the tips!
Wow! Do you sell the "patterns" for those 3d printed instruments?
does the surface of the print, wich is always a little rough affect the sound and how ? i hear the instrument makers take it very serious to get a polished surface inside the bore
I'd be excited to see a G piccolo clarinet as well, as it would resemble the fingerings of a recorder (low F would sound like a C) and I think it would be fun. I don't think there's any out there yet.
I wish I could do this
Hey Jared! this is incredibely cool! I have seen your 3D printed bass oboe and could you try making a 3D printed Oboe da Caccia? It's a very cool instrument and it just haves 3 keys.
Why does it look like a flute clarinet and saxophone Mixed together
Yes! I'll be buying one of these RIGHT AWAY When and Where will the print files be available?
Why isn't this instrument mass produced? (not this precise model with its design flaws, I mean the basset as a whole) The fact it is not wood just makes it more practical for the outside world. Who cares about the lack of repertoire if you are a creator and not just a pure interpreter? So beautiful, nicest range and tone ever, a composer's/improviser's/jazz player's dream! Just the normal evolution of a standard clarinet for me, an improved version. Some people like Alex Simu are even creating their own version.
The soprillo clarinet can't hurt you, it's not real...
Personally like the non-curved more
What kind of reed and I think you said you are using a soprano sax ligature?
sounds like a suona
The single reed projected a lot more than the double reed.
It's also the material. Curved is metal and sounds brassy, straight is wood or plastic and sounds more clarinetty
Very true. I'm a sax player in addition to clarinet, so I like the brassier sound of the curved bell--sounds richer to me.
There is a serious problem with this. Bass clarinets with the second register hole on the neck must have a neck length adjustment on the descending part of the neck. This does not have it, so if it plays sharp there is no way to lengthen the neck to lower the pitch. What were the Conn people thinking? With the models without the neck register hole, you can slide the whole neck up where it joins the upper joint. You can't do that if it has a neck register hole, because it will disengage the register mechanism coming up along the upper joint. Eric Dolphy had a bass clarinet to low D. I don't remember whether the neck had a tuning slide.
I’ve found the best way to get around this is with tuning rings between the mouthpiece and neck. My C bass clarinet also does not have a tuning slide and I have to use tuning rings, fortunately with a 2mm ring it plays well in tune.
The bass clarinet mouthpiece sounds thin(ish)
what mouthpiece is that
It’s a Chedeville.
This man is the mad scientist of clarinet, bravo!
Oh my god thank you!
So cool! Great job!
