I don't really get it. If it's the "manual dial hold time" that decides how long the dialed in TG will override the original TG, then what does the non manual dial "group/person call" setting do?
Very Good Video You help me a lot with your video i have 3 day search to find a good directions
This is a great video. Is there a way, using the method in this video, to cross mode from DSTAR to NXDN?
@@robertaucoin3860 yes there is. In the URCALL field of the radio, Type NX followed by the NXDN reflector number. For example NX1200 will link you to NXDN reflector 1200. Once linked, dial up Use Reflector CQCQCQ to talk. I demonstrate this toward the take end of this video.
@@k9wlwradio309 Thanks very much!
Can something like this be done with a Baofeng uv-17r Plus? I know probably a dumb question.
Thanks for this, as someone else pointed out still very useful :)
Thank you!
Thank you very much, that makes it a lot more manageable. PD0MJV, 73
Thank you for your comment. Go to my next video to unlock the "manual dial" feature. It allows you to manually dial ANY random talkgroup so you can transmit ANY random talkgroup on the radio. This along with the promiscuous mode gives you unlimited talkgroups on receive and transmit on any 1 channel. No more repetitive codeplugs needed!
been looking for this for a very long time. i assume it will be all the same for my ft5d..... Plese advise on how to create the actuall folders on the radio, your video shows how to add groups to folders.
@@MrRicksho the folders should be already in the radio. When you search for a talkgroup or reflector you tap on the appropriate reflector or talkgroup on the screen and it should show an "add" button on screen. Press the add button and tbe 5 folders should pop up. Carefully press the folder you want it in and it should drop in there. The folders pop up whether they are named already or not.
@@MrRicksho once in the talkgroup always remember to press the PTT button an release to dynamically activate the talkgroup before making a call. Unlike reflectors DMR talkgroups always need a quick PTT and release to activate your dynamic talkgroup. As you monitor the talkgroup it may suddenly go silent after 10-15 minutes of monitoring. A quick PTT and release will reactivate the group. On many hotspots the dynamic talkgroups may time out if you don't transmit at least once every 10-15 minutes. That is a Brandmeister thing. TG 91 is a good place to monitor since it is busy round the clock. That way you can get a feel how your hotspot timeout comes in to play. If 91 goes silent you know you have timed out. If you are lucky, your hotspot might not ever time out. If it doesn't one key in and monitor indefinitely.
@k9wlwradio309 yes I am aware of the ptt to activate. Been using Droidstar, and it's the same. But I decided to upgrade and use my Radio,.

Hi, I am new to YSF and I am bit confused my the YSF2DMR functionality. Why would one want to use the crossmode option if pi-star website display reflectors that basically match TG in DMR? Why not just stay in YSF?

Hi, I watched your video and saw you doing the procedure to listen to NXDN on DMR, but could you help me do the opposite? I have an NXDN radio and would like to listen to DMR through the hotspot. 73 de PY2XO.
Unfortunately the pi-star software does not provide any crossmoding options for an NXDN radio. All you can do with an NXDN radio is NXDN. You would have to get either a DMR radio, or a C4FM Yaesu radio to do any crossmoding.
Thanks for sharing this video and information. 73 Steve de AA4SH

Good afternoon, if the group number contains more than 5 characters, TG 208019, how do I connect to it? No more than 5 characters can be specified in FT5d! How do I connect to a room if it consists of 6 digits?
In the YSF configuration where I type the 4000, type in the 6 digit talkgroup number. Hit apply changes. Then hit your push to talk on the radio and release. You should be in the 6 digit talkgroup. After you are done, type in the 4000 and hit apply changes. Then hit your push to talk and release. You should hear the Brandmeister announcement saying "not linked". You cannot use Wires-X commands to select 6 digit talkgroups.
Thanks!
I hope it helped!

I just Oder the D75!
It is a fantastic radio!
5:17 that's FRS right there.
Very helpful, clearly informative, thanks.
This is fantastic. I’ve been trying to figure out how to do Gateway CQ for over a year. This is the only place that addressed how to do it with a Pi-Star. Again Thanks!
I've entered a d-star repeater in the repeater list. I hav eNO IDEA HOW TO RECALL IT TO MEMORY TO USE IT? I'm very confused and aggravated.
You have to know which folder you entered the repeater into and scroll through that folder from top to bottom. The pre loaded repeaters in the Kenwood in the USA are in North America, USA and further broken down by USA call zone 0 through 9. If you dropped in a random folder, you would have to scroll through the over 1000 repeaters to randomly find it. You could re renter it a second time and just be careful to remember which folder you place it in so it is much easier to narrow down your search parameter.
Can you switch back and forth between Branmeister, and TGIF
The best way to switch back and forth between TGIF and Brandmeister is to set up an individual profile for Brandmeister access complete with the Brandmeister hotspot password. Then setup another profile for TGIF access comple t e with the TGIF hotspot password. Then you can just hop between profiles. For example, if you put Brandmeister in profile 1 and TGIF in profile 2. You can hop beck and forth by keying up a quick Private call 9001 to jump to profile 1, and keying up a quick private call 9002 to jump to profile 2. You can easily hop back and forth with quick keying the radio.
Man I’ve been looking on how to save bm talk groups for a minute now this helped me a lot thank you!
how about disconnecting from other modes (ysf, nxdn, fcs). is there a disconnect command just to disconnect from all other modes without having to connect back to a dstar reflector first and then doing a …….U command to get your radio back to a regular “unconnected to any mode” status?
In the context of this video, all the commands to link and unlink the hotspot are directed from a DStar radio. You do NOT have to first link to a DStar reflector. You can jump from unlinked and directly hop to a YSF, or NXDN reflector with the appropriate link commands keyed into the DStar radio. The DMR network adds an additional layer of commands to first connect to a Brandmeister server, and then key up a dynamic talkgroup. If you are using a Fusion radio as the control radio the unlink command is to press and hold the Band button on your handheld and if a Fusion mobile I believe you just press and hold the * key on the mobile microphone. Linking with a fusion radio is tricky, because you can only hop in and around one network at a time. You cannot directly hop from DStar to Fusion and back. There are no special Wires X or DTMF codes utilized by the Openspot that trigger the Fusion radio to direct the Openspot from one network to another. As far as the DMR radio goes, it does NOT have an unlink command. A hotspot remains connected to za Brandmeister server even after you group call 4000 a Brandmeister talkgroup. After unlinking from a talkgroup you can still receive Private Calls on Brandmeister. Also there are no DMR commands that trigger the Openspot from one network to another. So in the case if the Fusion or DMR radio, you can only hop around a single network at a time. To go to another network you have to either use the Openspot dashboard OR you must hop to another Openspot profile that has been pre setup to connect to another network. I hope that answers your question. In summary ONLY the DStar radio can hop in and out of all networks with the appropriate URCALL commands keyed up in the radio, and it can do it all without having to leave an Openspot profile.
@@k9wlwradio309 i understand completely the context of this video and am also using an id-52… im simply asking.. in your dmr example.. you showed comand 4000 to “disconnect” from a dmr talk group and we all know …….U to disconnect from a dstar reflector. what you did not show… was any other commands to disconnect from a YSF, FCS, or NXDN reflectors/talkgroups… you simply went from one of those talk groups back to a dstar reflector and then disconnected to return your radio to a “disconnected from any reflector/talkgroup” state. I guess my specific questions which zI should have clarified better is.. Are there commands to disconnect from the other modes besides dstar and dmr… specifically FCS, YSF, snd NXDN….
@@ertonyrn I think I understand your question now. The standard DStar Unlink Reflector command (^^^^^^U) also works to unlink from any YSF, FCS, NXDN or Brandmeister server.
@@k9wlwradio309 ahhh gotcha! exactly my question. i didnt see that demonstrated in the video. thank you for the clarification. 73

Didn’t know about the * key. Thanks!
Once again you gave all the magic in a single video and I figured out how to get working on another cross mode!
Thank you for your comment.
At 14:34 your screen shows Type DV Repeater. My ID-51 doesn’t offer this option. Similarly, I don’t have the Reflectors option under TO. I feel like I’m missing one setting somewhere that has everything locked down. I can use D-Star simplex without any issues. Thanks for any ideas from the community.
Hi and I was trying to set up an XLX reflector (XLX910) while in MMDVM DMR. In your video about 2:30 in, it shows all the XLX reflectors in the drop-down. I don't see them??? Did they change something in the past 4 yrs? Or am I doing something wrong? I selected MMDVM for protocol. Thanks
I checked and you are correct. I was unable to find the XLX reflectors anywhere. I inquired on the Openspot Facebook group. I will report my findings asap.
Ok. I had to reach out to Shark RF to find out what happened to the XLX reflectors on DMR. He stated they (Shark RF) have removed them from the list of DMR servers. He did not explain why. I must admit, I found that news disappointing. If you are using a DMR radio and an Openspot 2, you are out of luck. However. If you are using a DMR radio and either an Openspot 3 or 4 Pro, you can crossmode your DMR radio to any and all XLX reflectors on the DStar connector labeled DCS/XLX. The down side of that is you will show up as a DStar signal in the Reflector and if the reflector does not have a transcoder, your DMR friends cannot decode your DStar signal with their DMR radios. The only other alternative is to access the XLX reflectors from a pi-star hotspot on DMR. Sorry for the disappointing news, but I wanted a definitive answer before giving you a full report.
@@k9wlwradio309 I really appreciate the research you did to answer my concerns. Very disappointing. I thought I was losing my marbles because I remember seeing the XLX reflectors in the DMR. Unheard of business practice to remove something from a product; like removing the fries from a McDonald's Happy Meal. Thanks again.
If you are in a question answering mode, Here are 2 other questions. I have 2 Openspot 4 modems one pro, the other regular. Pro is used with ID52A, the other with Anytone 878UVII+. Both have a quirk of disconnecting on their own, but then reconnecting immediately. I have read that the issue may be my home wifi. If it's the home wifi issue, then that's the only issue I have with home wifi. No other devices seem to disconnect on their own. The second question concerning accessing the device software via the browser. Whether I input the URL directing into a browser window or access via SharkRF Link App, it sometimes takes a very long time before the web page is rendered. BTW, I use Safari on a Mac. Chrome seems a bit better. Again, thank you very much for your help.
I don't run into the issue of disconnecting and reconnecting on my home Wi-Fi, but I sure have it happen a lot while mobile. I am not sure of the cause.
The browsing issue is common. It is frustrating and annoying. Again not sure of the cause. I use Chrome, but it happens all the time.
You have helped me several times in the past. So, I am looking to see if you can answer this question. Openspot 4, Icom ID52., using Star. When I send out the "U" command to unlink, the Openspot puts me into a null connection so that I cannot simply switch to a different reflect. I have to go back into the Openspot software "connector" page and choose the reflector. I used to be able to unlink and then just choose a different reflector, but that doesn't seem to work anymore. I can't figure it out. Can you help?
After you keyup the Unlink Reflector command, go to the connectors page. Check which modem mode is showing. I have found a little quirk with a fix. The first time I hit unlink reflector and checked the connectors page, the modem mode also switched to idle. In the modem idle mode it is deaf to all transmissions. While in the Null connector, manually switch the modem mode to Dstar. Then hit save. Then key up a link reflector command. That should fix it. To test it, then hit unlink reflector again on the radio. Refresh the connectors page on your browser. Again visually look at the modem mode. If it says DStar, you are good to go. If it says idle (or any other modem mode, such as C4FM, DMR, or NXDN). The hotspot is still deaf to any DStar transmissions. Let me know if this fixes it.
Thanks very much. Yes, what you suggested worked. Certainly that sounds like a quirk, perhaps a real bug. I'm not sure if the Openspot people acknowledge the issue. I searched quite a bit online and saw that others had the same issue. Your solution seems to work. I'm grateful for that. Thanks again.@@k9wlwradio309
Too hard to watch. Hold the camera still.
A fair criticism. But did you learn anything like the previous commenters?
Frank, After having watched numerous vids on YSF2DMR, this is the one that got my FT991A system up and running. Many thanks for such a no-nonsense, informative, instructive video!
I appreciate your comments. I also noticed other videos, but they lacked a lot of details. I made it a point to master the YSF crossmoding before recording my videos. I also did videos showing how to crossmode YSF2P25 and YSF2NXDN. I did another follow up video on how to simultaneously set up all 3 YSF crossmodes at the same time! I now use my dedicated YSF hotspot in YSF and all YSF crossmodes simultaneously! The Wires-X button lets me hop from network to network without touching the hotspot dashboard!
Why I keep hearing the TG that is selected in main menu despite manually dialing TG group?
Is the talkgroup activated dynamically? Or did it get activated as a static talkgroup? If dynamic, you must key up a group call 4000 and listen for the "not linked" announcement. If it is activated as a static talkgroup, you must delete it from your static talkgroup list on your hotspot.
Good video. I don't have 11:47 DMR2YSF as a server config option. for DMR Configuration. Oh well. I'm also using the new Pi-star fork called WPSD Digital Voice Dashboard.
Thanks for your video. I worked my memory on id 50, only I need connet the reflector that I want from my icom radio. For the moment, I can change from my pi star configuration. All is ok, but I need more information for it. Thanks again from EA8DFX Canary Islands, Pedro. 73 !!
Here is a link to another of my videos teaching you how to link to other reflectors with radio commands. Unlike the older radio in the video, the new ID-50 DOES allow you to link directly to DCS, XRF, and XLX reflectors in the radio menu. However this video shows you how to use radio commands to link to reflectors (and even to remote repeaters). It shows you the special "your call sign" folder where you can store dozens of your own personal favorite link commands. ua-cam.com/video/7ZzHM8z-jms/v-deo.htmlsi=H3PhrgpSDhjvjQcY ua-cam.com/video/7ZzHM8z-jms/v-deo.htmlsi=H3PhrgpSDhjvjQcY
What I do not understand is how I connect to a room that a repeater is connected to using my hotspot. Example: Radio reference says a repeater in Ocala, FL is Wires-x 64716. How do I connect to that?
You cannot. The YSF Reflectors and FCS Reflectors on hotspots are not part of Wires-X network. If there were a YSF or FCS Reflector created that was directly linked to Wires-X 64716 through an internet bridge, then and only then could you connect to it on your hotspot. Otherwise, Wires-X rooms are inaccessible from the hotspot world. For Example, Ohio Link has a Wires-X room. The folks who operate Ohio Link, also created a YSF Reflector which they also named Ohio Link. They also built an internet bridge linking the 2 rooms together so that hotspot users could also join in to the group.
Exact the video i was looking for. I had the problem, that i wasn´t able to add a secound Hotspot, because i was using the same letter at the end after my callsign. Now i know how ot works ;-) 73, de DO1IP 👌
One of the most useful videos out there regarding openspot DMR, so simple. This is a game changer for me, thanks a lot! (completely applicable to my OS4)
Thank you for your comment! I hope it helped!
A very helpful video thank you. I have used ysf for a while but have never tried crosslinking.
I am glad you enjoyed it. By far the best addition to crossmoding is access to DMR. Plenty of QSO's to be had there!
I think it would, but I have never scanned with this radio. I have a mere 5 channels in memory, 1 for each of my hotspots, and one for a DMR simplex channel for radio to radio communication.
Will this work while scanning channels in scan mode ?
I believe it will. If you are NOT in Promiscuous Mode, it will not open the squelch on random DMR talkgroups. In Promiscuous mode, ANY DMR traffic from ANY DMR signal on any scanned DMR channel with ANY Talkgroup and ANY color code should open the squelch and therefore be captured during a scan. In other words, I would describe this as a MUST use feature to scan DMR signals effectively. NOT using this setting would let the radio skip over the random DMR traffic and therefore be missed.
I spent last evening to do this. I put offset of .600000 and it didn't work. But after your video, It is working great. Now I can speak with whole world... KN6DQJ. From Cerritos, CA. GREAT THANKS.
I am glad it helped! I really hope you get to enjoy DSTAR now!
