    Very nice video, again. I have the D-74 radio and a Pi-star hotspot, so all your information really helps.

    The only problem is that although I have been Amateur Advanced for many years, I kept my Novice 2x3 for personal reasons. Unless I am missing something, this will not work with a 2x3. Its too long to fit the 7the and 8th character for the mod

    Hello Frank
    Your article is very interesting like all your articles.
    When I try this all I get is “trying to connect to server. I don’t have two radios so i’m not sure I’m doing it right but I bring up pi-star with d74 then go to open spot with d74 and I get the message trying to connect to server so I’m thinking I need to radios to connect to myself. I also tried connecting to you and got same message but I’m not sure you have pi-star loaded.

      Sorry for my delay in responding. I have been moving in last few weeks and have new internet. I have not been able to link to my pi-star with my Openspot since the move. I might have to set up the appropriate port forwarding on this internet to get it to work again.

    What flavor of pi-star hotspot do you have? I have a DVMega from Bridgecom and a JumboSpot from a seller on Ebay. This would be great way to keep in touch with a good friend of mine on Dstar. I could set this up on my phone's wifi hotspot and take it with me on my travels to and from work. How hard is it to setup Dstar on a pi-star? The reason I asked you what pi-star hotspot you own is if you have a favorite? I prefer the DVMega. It seems to be more stable than my JumboSpot. Then again I paid more for the DVMega...

      DStar is pretty easy to setup. Google amateur radio notes playing with Pi-star and there is a great how to website. I have a Pi 3B running version 4.1.3 currently. It is a Nex Gen Commander Spot. There might be issues with mobile Wi-Fi doing this. A lot of this relies on port forwarding or Upnp being set up on your internet.

    Very dangerous as it can create looping if the person who links to your hotspot doesn’t unlink before linking to a reflector. Think of your hotspot is linked to 030c and someone links to your hotspot and then links to 001c. Now 001c and 030c are now linked and causing problems. Be very careful.

    • @k9wlwradio309

      If someone links to my hotspot they are ONLY linked to whatever I am linked (or not linked to). If I am linked to 30C then they are indirectly linked to 30C through me. If they then link to 1C, they automatically are unlinked from me. You can only outbound to one thing at a time. There is no way to loop unless I have 2 hotspots on the same frequency on 2 different reflectors and one hotspots outbound rf keys the other hotspot and vice versa. The way my setup works, you hear what my hotspot hears and. You can ONLY key up what my hotspot is linked to. If you are on either a pi-star or Openspot, try a link to K9WLW B. Then link to something else. You will automatically lose the link to me the moment you link elsewhere. Your dashboard on your hotspot will confirm that fact.

    Hi, how do you add a six digit call sign plus the space plus the B or C designation and L designation, the 51a only accepts eight characters in the direct entry field?

    • @k9wlwradio309
      @k9wlwradio309  3 роки тому

      ALL DStar radios accept 8 characters because that is a function of DStar itself. In the event if a six digit callsign there is no space. A 5 digit call has 1 space. A 4 digit call has 2 spaces. The module is always the 7th character and the L for link command is always the 8th character. So for a callsign like KB1ABC to connect to its B module you load up KB1ABCBL. No space in the 6 digit callsign.

    I am using a DVAP with the Pi-Star Raspberry PI image. Did you have to enable any special functions to allow the connections in from other people? So far I have not been able to accept any incoming connections. Several people have tried to link to "MyCallSign C" without any luck. I am sure there is something I am doing wrong on my side... :)

    • @k9wlwradio309
      @k9wlwradio309  3 роки тому

      Are you using the C module on the pi-star Dstar configuration in RPT1? For mine to accept inbound links, I leave my pi-star on and also the DStar mode on round the clock. After a few days your pi-star shows up with an IP address on the IRCDDB database. You want to turn on the callsign routing feature in DStar configuration. It will then communicate with the ircddb database. It might take a few days to appear there. If that still does not work you either want to make sure you either have uPNP active on you home internet to allow automatic port forwarding. Otherwise you have to open up port forward for DStar by opening up the following ports. UDP 20001, 30001, 30051, and 40000. For the uPNP or port forwarding you may have to consult your internet provider over the phone. I have uPNP in my case so it automatically port forwards.

      @@k9wlwradio309 I am using the C module for the Pi-Star D-Star configuration. The one item I "did not" have turned on until now is the "Callsign Routing" . I now have that turned on. I leave the Raspberry Pi in the D-Star configuration 24/7 so I will give it a couple of days to properly register and try again.. Thanks for your quick response!! 73 de Jerry WR5G.

      If I had ONLY one to pick, Openspot3. It's more versatile, portable, and crossmodable. Can't beat it pedestrian or mobile.

    Off topic but not sure who to ask. I am blocked from 01C. I added a VPN but can't figure out how to set up OS2 to connect to it. You are so technically inclined, I though you may have an idea.

      If you post the issue in DStar users group on Facebook, a man will reach out you and reach someone behind the curtain who will unblock your callsign

    Very cool stuff, I tried linking one of my pi-star hotspots to another of my pi-star hotspots using the pi-star link command line on the admin page but, I am not able to establish a link using direct callsign entry. However, I can link to other repeaters via direct callsign entry. Have you tried doing this from one pi-star program to another without linking via the radio? 73, Steve WB4IZC

    • @k9wlwradio309
      @k9wlwradio309  3 роки тому

      It can be done on the dashboard or with the correct URCALL in the radio. The hard part is getting the pathway to work for inbound links. All the settings for inbound links have to be set and the hotspot has to be dedicated to DStar and be on constantly for your hotspot's correct external IP address to appear on the IRCDDB database and remain there for each nightly pi-star updates. Feel free to test mine for linking. Mine in K9WLW B

      Question, does a switch in Pi-star config need to be turned on to allow inbound linking?
