    Thank you so much for the video. I just received my Brandmeister account and figure I would try cross mode with YSF. I set my FT 5D up just as you did. Hopefully saving the talk groups will be straightforward. I’ll definitely check out your other videos.

      Thank you for your comment. I am glad you watched this one. DMR is a nice add to your arsenal with your YSF radio. I also have videos showing YSF2NXDN and YSF2P25. I believe my last video shows how you can activate all 3 crossmodes simultaneously and hop from, YSF to DMR to NXDN to P25 and back to YSF with just the Wires-X button. Only thing you can't crossmode to is DStar.

    Frank,
    After having watched numerous vids on YSF2DMR, this is the one that got my FT991A system up and running. Many thanks for such a no-nonsense, informative, instructive video!

      I appreciate your comments. I also noticed other videos, but they lacked a lot of details. I made it a point to master the YSF crossmoding before recording my videos. I also did videos showing how to crossmode YSF2P25 and YSF2NXDN. I did another follow up video on how to simultaneously set up all 3 YSF crossmodes at the same time! I now use my dedicated YSF hotspot in YSF and all YSF crossmodes simultaneously! The Wires-X button lets me hop from network to network without touching the hotspot dashboard!

    Hi, I am new to YSF and I am bit confused my the YSF2DMR functionality. Why would one want to use the crossmode option if pi-star website display reflectors that basically match TG in DMR? Why not just stay in YSF?

    Great video. But it seems to me that this mode is only for listening on the DMR? Is there any way to talk in DMR via YSF on the FT-991a radio?

    • @k9wlwradio309
      @k9wlwradio309  Рік тому

      I am not sure I fully understand the question. This video demonstrates how to use your pi-star hotspot and Fusion radio to crossmode to the DMR networks directly. Using YSF? Do you mean a Yaesu System Fusion radio. Or do you mean on the YSF reflectors? There are very limited YSF reflectors that bridge over to the DMR world. With the hotspot why not crossmode over to the DMR network and have your personal choice of which talkgroups to directly key into? The 991A should operate identically as my FT-2D handheld does in the video. Look at my most recent video and see how you can not only use YSF network, but crossmode over to DMR, NXDN, and even P25 networks. Yhis also will work with the 991A.

    Good afternoon, if the group number contains more than 5 characters, TG 208019, how do I connect to it? No more than 5 characters can be specified in FT5d! How do I connect to a room if it consists of 6 digits?

      In the YSF configuration where I type the 4000, type in the 6 digit talkgroup number. Hit apply changes. Then hit your push to talk on the radio and release. You should be in the 6 digit talkgroup. After you are done, type in the 4000 and hit apply changes. Then hit your push to talk and release. You should hear the Brandmeister announcement saying "not linked". You cannot use Wires-X commands to select 6 digit talkgroups.

    Great video....Question in setting up YSF to DMR, why not put TG4000 as one of the sites in the DMR folder? Also, in searching for TG's, could I just type TG3100 for the search? I would try it myself, but I don't have a Yaesu available right now.

    • @k9wlwradio309
      @k9wlwradio309  Рік тому +1

      I like 4000 in the box so it always unlinks when I hop from talkgroupto talkgroup. I believe you can search by TG number but it zeroes in easier by talkgroup name. I didn't store a 4000 in the radio because I only have room for 20 talkgroups in each folder. I use the other folders for other crossmodes, like YSF2P25 and YSF2NXDN. In one of the other videos on my channel, I simultaneously activate all 3 crossmodes and demonstrate how to hop around them with the Wires-X button.

I have my channels programmed exactly in the same way as on my ID 52. However, the commands for I, E, U do not work. Do you have any idea where I can find the problem? Outstanding video. I've been looking for a video to link to Brandmeister but none, I mean none, are as clear and concise as yours is on how to link to Brandmeister. Thank you. However, I am having a problem. When I push the X button to get into wires x, I go from 70cm to the 2m band. I cannot get into the wires X using that button. Can you tell me why?
    UPDATE: I just talked to a Yeasu representative and my radio was set default to 2m band. He also told me that some hotspots will not bring up the "X" function. So unfortunately my hotspot(NEX-GEN RUGGED SPOT) is one of those hotspots that does not support that function. So what would be the best way to use Brandmeister with my FT2DR? Or would I be better off going with a DMR radio for Brandmeister? Thanks.

    HOW can you join a 6-digit DMR talk group when the radio only allows 5?

    • @k9wlwradio309
      @k9wlwradio309  10 місяців тому

      That's a good question. That is a slight shortcoming in the YSF radio. However, never fear. You can use the hotspot configuration screen in the YSF configuration where I put in the 4000 in the video, instead put in the 6 or even 7 digit talkgroup in the box. Hit apply changes. Then a quick push to talk and release should get you into the group. Unfortunately the Wires-X button will not help since it only handles 5 digits. I guess you have to let the hotspot do the heavy lifting on this one since the YSF radio is not designed for more than 5 digits. To get out of the group when you are done, put 4000 back in the box, hit apply changes and a quick push to talk and release should prompt "the Brandmeister Lady" to announce "not linked".

      Yes you do.there are 5 folders for favorites. I use federal one for YSF reflectors. I use folder 2 for FCS Reflectors. I use folder 3 for DMR Talkgroups. I use folder 4 for NXDN Reflectors (YSF2NXDN). I use folder 5 for P25 Reflectors (YSF2P25). I have another video demonsrating YSF2NXDN. I hope to make a video soon of YSF2P25. If you want to try YSF2P25, the radiometric be switched to VW mode, not DN mode to be heard on the P25 reflectors. Unfortunately, every time youhit the Wires-X button, the radio switches back to DN mode. After connecting to a P25 reflector you must exit the Wires-X mode and switch the radio to VW mode to QSO on P25 reflectors. 73 de K9WLW.

      @@MrRicksho once in the talkgroup always remember to press the PTT button an release to dynamically activate the talkgroup before making a call. Unlike reflectors DMR talkgroups always need a quick PTT and release to activate your dynamic talkgroup. As you monitor the talkgroup it may suddenly go silent after 10-15 minutes of monitoring. A quick PTT and release will reactivate the group. On many hotspots the dynamic talkgroups may time out if you don't transmit at least once every 10-15 minutes. That is a Brandmeister thing. TG 91 is a good place to monitor since it is busy round the clock. That way you can get a feel how your hotspot timeout comes in to play. If 91 goes silent you know you have timed out. If you are lucky, your hotspot might not ever time out. If it doesn't one key in and monitor indefinitely.

    • @k9wlwradio309
      @k9wlwradio309  2 роки тому

      That will unlink you from the YSF Reflector known as YSF2DMR. It will not unlink you from the talkgroup behind the scenes. If you relink to that YSF reflector at a later date, you will STILL be linked to the same Brandmeister talkgroup when you reconfigure your hotspot to link YSF2DMR. With DMR you still must group call 4000 to unlink the DMR talkgroup. Think of YSF2DMR as a bridge to Brandmeister. The group call 4000 is a command that affects the activity on the other side of that bridge.
