A friend gave me this idea...when free motion quilting, she traces the pattern onto tracing paper. Then she takes the thread out of the machine, both upper and bobbin. Stitch the pattern on the tracing paper without thread. Then place the tracing paper on your fabric and attach with pins. Use your pounce pad with the chalk in it to swipe (not pounce)over your tracing paper. The chalk goes through the holes to form your pattern. Then you can sew it from there. I will only do a section at a time. I am looking forward to trying this. Hope it helps. I would like to know how it works for you. 😊✂️🧵🪡
Oh that’s an interesting idea! I should try that when I try out the pounce pad! Thank you for sharing, Barbara!!!💖
I just read a similar idea in a vintage magazine to sew the pattern onto your top without any thread. Then you have a stitch pattern to follow.
I really love your channel (even if my wallet doesn't love the new inspiration) and just wanted to add that while watching the cutting process live might not be the most exciting content, it was actually super helpful for me watching after the fact. I think since most folks consider it to be less interesting, it doesn't really get shown, so as a digital-only learner you don't get a lot of experience with watching someone who knows what they're doing and feels comfortable with it. I'm not comfortable cutting fabric yet, especially anything that I really love because I'm nervous about using the cutter itself and about somehow ruining the fabric or doing it wrong and then not having enough to finish the project. Maybe it's a silly worry, but it's still there.
It's also super helpful to watch it not sped up at all, because my biggest personal struggle is with getting impatient with just how long it takes to make a thing from start to finish. It's nice to know that even for someone who has been at it for a while, it's not always a quick thing, and so when I do it I don't need to feel like I'm taking forever if even cutting strips takes a while.
Also you definitely don't talk too much, I really like having the video on like a podcast while I'm working :)
Aww thank you so much for this message, Lindsey! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and seeing the actual time it takes to get stuff done! haha Thank you for watching!!!
Hi, I watched your video regarding the Coats and Clark 30 WT Thread and ordered some. My question is do you or can you put the thread in your Bobbin?
Also do you know to use a Code to get the 20% of at MSQC. I hit your link and got a MSQC but my order didn’t reflect any discount
Thank you so much for all of your wonderful videos and great hints
Mary Lou from Connecticut 🦁❤️
Hi Mary Lou! I hope you like the Coats n Clark thread! It’s my favorite! And yes, I do put the same thread in my bobbin.
So for the 20% discount, your total needs to be $50 or more and some of their sales are excluded from that discount, unfortunately. They usually say in the sale details if it can’t be combined with a discount. You don’t need a code or anything. If you think your purchase qualified for the discount, please reach out to MSQC’s customer service and they’ll get that straightened out for you right away. Their agents are awesome!
@@StitchObsessed Thank you so much for answering my question. I just saw your video and I’m very happy for you. Can’t wait to see the progress as it’s going. Congratulations on your new Sewing Area
Love Mary Lou 🦁😊🩷🩷
@@maryloulion2389 aww thank you so much, Mary Lou!!!💖💖💖💖
LOVE the fresh-out-of-the-dryer crinkle!!
I’ve found you can still get some crinkle even with pre- washing.
Very true! The batting will still shrink a bit which is nice! 🥰
I’m so glad I found you! I am a self taught quilter and still learning. I am enjoying your videos and learning so much from you.
Yay! I’m so glad my videos are helping! 👏🏻
Look to see the mark the fabric is on before you cut it. Then measure the cut fabric and figure out how much was actually cut.
Don’t know that inkjet printer ink would last on regular fabric. If the fabric is PFD prepared for dye it’ll take the ink better.
I think sublimation printer for printing labels is the way to go.
I agree.
Just finished my first glue basted quilt! You can teach an old dog a new trick!
Yay!!! Isn’t it so great?! I hope your quilting goes beautifully!💖👏🏻
I was gifted that Fiskars cutter & returned it. Expensive for how little it could do. I recommend applying the $45 to a Creative Grids rotary cutter- now THAT is an item that upgraded my cutting! I used to use the same one you have for years- but the new heavier cutter minimized hand, arm & shoulder strain! Treat yourself you won't be sorry!
Thanks for the tip, Kim! I’ll check it out 💖💖
Hi Miriam I know about this Fiskars cutterby watching Jean Trulove from Jean trulove quilts for you. You are using in a wrong angle,so perhaps you could watch a couple of her videos. I have two of them and they are great to use.
Ooo thank you! I will look her up! 💖👏🏻
I think you mean a guillotine , that’s as near as I can think for paper cutting. Thanks for today.if you wanted a finished 3inch piece does the extra allow a 1/4 inch stitching edge. I agree with the quilting. Most of the ones to date I have done as really large ones. The longbarmnwuilter does work out expensive to be doing as well , as all the time.
Guillotine! That's the word! haha! I drew a blank. And I don't think the extra line of the ruler would be for seam allowance, although I could be wrong. I'm going to play around with the ruler a bit and make an update video on it haha. Thank you for watching, Karen!
Hi...I'm left handed too. What rotary cutter do you use? (I have 3 different ones and even the blades work better when using my right hand.)
I use the Fiskars ergonomic rotary cutter! It’s my favorite! And yay! Another leftie! 👏🏻💖
Hi I’m glad to see you
I enjoyed sewing on a wall hanging while I listened to your live. I listened a rerun.
Awesome! Thank you so much for watching! 💖💖
I agree Zoom to be able to see faces would be awesome. I teach college classes online and I always love meeting my students on Zoom.
Oh that's awesome! Thank you for watching!!!
Yes on hearing you.
Missed your live but catching it on a replay
Yay! It was alot of fun!
I’m going to try the straight line both ways to make a diamond
Oooo that will look SO cool!
Hello!
Never heard of the pounce pad. I’d like to see that.
I'll be trying in my next video so stay tuned! I'm excited to try it; I REALLY hope it works! haha!
My daughter got me one for Mother’s
Oh awesome! Have you tried it yet? 🤓
That ruler looks like a real doozy! 😂
Lol!!!! It was a bit tricky!
I never thought sewing could be so addictive...
You must be a Capricorn being so punctual.
I'm the same!
Haha isn’t it great?! 🤓
Hi so happy to see you and watch your show. I’m from Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Love quilting and look forward to trying this pattern.
Yay! Thank you so much for watching, Mary! 💖💖💖
Love your goggle!
Haha! I’m glad someone does 🫣😂🥴
Doesn’t each person have to download zoom? I do a Bible study on zoom and I had to download it and then get a link every week. 🤷🏻♀️
I think if you watch on a phone you need to download the app. I will research all that and try to make it as seamless of an experience as possible for everyone 💖
Ok no way do you talk too much. It's so nice to come and listen to you talk like we are friends and you aren't just talking at me. I would love to do a ZOOM! Also I bought that same rotary cutter and brand new it kept doing that to me. I threw it away and never looked back. I have the same brand but not the ergonomic one anymore.
Thank you, Kim!!! I really appreciate that! 💖 and yeah, mine didn’t start snapping shut till about 6 months ago and it drives me crazy lol I bought a new one, I just haven’t opened it yet 😂 I’ll definitely get a Zoom call scheduled soon. I think that’ll be super fun! 👏🏻
I have marked the quilting pattern with chalk pounce before pin basting and it worked well
Awesome! 👏🏻
I have two of those long ruler cutter, it works amazing! You will be addicted to it and so much fun to use it.
Oooo awesome! Yeah I think once I get the technique down, I’ll really like it. 👏🏻😍
Hope everyone sends in their work so we can see it too.
Yes!!! 👏🏻 I would love to see everyone’s makes!
I've sewn since I was a kid but new to quilting. Been watching tons of videos but I really enjoy yours😊
Oh I’m so glad! Thank you so much for watching!!!💖
I think for beginners I think you could talk about your thread color so they know not to get crazey with matching thread for your fabric. 😊
@@DeniseFiegel excellent suggestion! Thank you!!!
Press and starch cuts down on lint.
Oh interesting! Thank you!
Rvening cause there isnt many of them out there.
Perfect! Yes, evening seemed to be the most popular choice! 💖
