    Do you have plans to post more history videos on the historic anniversary date? Its always crazy to me that stories like this actually exist throughout our history people always skim over this sort of topic good job covering it

      In any case, I plan to produce a regular stream of original content, and anniversaries are good sources of inspiration and opportunities for commemoration. For example, we could talk about the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Paris this summer, and the same for other events in other eras. Thanks for your comment!

    Thank you so much for this very important reminder. The famous 1970s "World at War" video series (narrated by Laurence Olivier) opens with a discussion of the events at Oradour sur Glane. I remember watching it the first time and finally understanding what it meant for one's blood to run cold. I felt physically ill, and still do whenever I consider what took place there.

      Thank you, I will try to watch it then! For me what is inimaginable is: knowing the trauma Oradour was for France, I cannot conceive hundreds of such events happened in the Eastern front. My brain just cannot process it

    9:10 The south had some major advantages. First of all Lee and Jackson were much better generals until Grant an Sherman took over for the union. But the big advantages were that first of all they were fighting a defensive war and were much more familiar with the land the battles were taking place on. Also the south was a more agricultural society and the population of the south as a whole were much more experienced handling and using guns and navigating rough terrain as they took part in activities like hutting hiking and camping more often than the industrialized north where the people lived in more urban environments. So the south had better generals a more experienced population to draw from and they were fighting on their own terrain. The Union's only hope was to cut off their supplies and win a war of attrition.

      I know this is probably not the best video to post this on but, I always find it hilarious that the SS panzer divisions are always played up to be the “crème de la crème of the German military, but in reality, they had some of the lousiest combat performance (statistically) when compared to the Wehrmacht.

    • @ToonStory-fh4gn
      @ToonStory-fh4gn 6 годин тому

      @@BradanKlauer-mn4mp Absolutely true. All the myths surrounding them were mostly propaganda. Many things to debunk about them but there were a lot of units run by a lot of Nazis and not by professional soldiers, and I think they also attracted quite ‘special’ soldier profiles. On top of that they tended to receive better equipment and they were in a state of competition with the Wehrmarcht

  • @benjamies4136
    @benjamies4136 7 годин тому

    It always fascinates me how effective nazi propaganda was, in 1944 there is no hope for you to win, but you're so willing to commit such atrocities to a enemy that you know will remember everything you did. It's amazing how many were still willing to do such evil.

    Hey I love that you're doing your own content as well as reactions! There's really not enough french perspectives on a lot of history that really heavily involves the French, and much less Frenchman openly making videos to inform many of us like Americans who, like you said because of a single war has really changed how France is viewed

    My God, I can't even find words to describe the feelings I have, the video of the everyday people on the street and tanks rolling by was surreal. The eight year old boy broke my heart, I cannot grasp how this evil could be done by a human being to another human, and even worse so many were involved, I pray for a peaceful world but also the strength both military and good people worldwide to ensure nothing like this ever happens again, never forget and never again

    34:15 I studied the civil war a lot because of this. I feel the civil war was the transition to modern war. Grant and Sherman kicked of a change in war strategy relying more on flanking tactics and attacking supply lines and depots as opposed to going directly at armies themselves. I feel it signified the first major that was the transition point to modern war.

    I love your knowledge & passion for history, particularly military history. During the US Civil War, Confederate General Thomas (Stonewall) Jackson, a military professor at The Virginia Military Institute, absolutely & completely studied & emulated Napoleon's military tactics and leadership abilities. He was the absolute most highly decorative, disciplined, effective general during the Civil War. He earned the title stonewall because he stood fearlessly alongside his troops & refused to be pushed back, holding like a Stonewall. At a time when most generals observed battles from a safe distance. He was the main reason for all the confederate victories at the beginning of the war. General Robert E. Lee proudly referred to him as his right hand. Gen Thomas Jackson was killed by friendly fire during a nighttime ambush, weeks before Gettysburg. He was extremely loved & well respected by his men. He was orphaned & raised by an African American lady. During the war, he received a telegram of her untimely death. In front of all his troops, he completely broke down like a baby in despair of losing his adopted mother. Now, I'm supper happy that Lincoln finally made the Civil War about ammancipation of slavery, & we were able to abolish such a shameful practice. Prior, many southerners considered leaving the union, with much debate of state vs federal rights. Many considered it an aggressive invasion of the federalized north. 95% of all soldiers who fought for the south had never owned a slave. They lived in a time where most people had no idea what activities were occurring in other areas of America. Particularly, isolated southerners in rural Appalachia & other rural areas.

    So glad I found your channel, I absolutely love everything you had to add! Wishing you much success! Nick (The Fat Electrician) is in the middle working to a Degree in History I heard him mention on a video format podcast. I feel like he’d really enjoy your channel . I’ve heard him mention channels that react to his and he seemed to really appreciate it and one of the families he even invited to a fellow soldiers ranch to teach them how to shoot when they visited the US again. This is the first channel I’ve seen that would likely really interest him for what you have to add.

    Hi, i know this video is 7 months old, i just wanted to make this comment. You talked about how campfires can be used to decieve the enemies into thinking you have more troops or your soldiers are positioned in a certain way. To this i want to add a strategy that was used in a battle during the warring states in China, where the general while retreating gave an order to reduce the number of campfires and kept reducing it as they kept retreating, that made the enemy miscalculate the ammount of soldiers he had and, believing the number of soldiers to be much lower than the real one the pursuers fell in a trap and got surrounded and defeated Found the battle en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Maling

    If this was even primarily an American perspective, there would be scathing hate for de Gaulle and his actions towards driving nearly all anti colonialist movements towards the Soviet Union. Although he is generally respected, he has a mixed reputation in the US for colonialist reasons.

    As a Brit I can safely say that we've had our ups and downs with France (a lot more downs) but I have immense respect for Napoleon and have visited his tomb in Paris I wish he had kept his throne. He didn't deserve the fate that destiny gave him, even if it was somewhat poetic
