    The first 2 ingredients for j/d (joint care or mobility) are whole grain wheat and whole grain corn. Then eventually chicken meal and corn protein meal. How is this good for my old dog?

      Kelly, did you watch the video? That’s how the diet works. If you evaluate the food based on the way pet food marketers have manipulated you, it would be very confusing how such a bad diet can do such good things. You’re asking how it’s good for your old dog because you’re questioning the ingredient panel. It’s a tool manipulated to make food look more attractive and obviously it works. It’s not your fault to question real nutrition. Most people who care do. But it’s all marketing and really manipulative marketing. The real answer is the results vets see with their patients with arthritis. That’s the real proof.

    I’m curious about wet foods. I feed my dog RC but he likes the combo of wet and dry so I sub some dry with wet every feeding, mostly farmers dogs, hills, or Purina. RC doesn’t have a great selection of wet food. Is it ok to mix brands of wet/dry. Like RC/hills etc. or should you stick with the same brand RC/RC… Purina/Purina etc. I often wondered this is ok for a healthy pet or if you should stick within the same brand for wet and dry.

      I’m not a vet professional but I listen to vets and board certified vet nutritionists and if you’re using a topper of another brand, that plus all daily extras should be less than 10% daily calories. If you mix wet RC with dry, it should be same flavor and there are directions on how to properly do this on the back of the RC bag. Otherwise you risk throwing the nutrients out of balance.

      @@StephanieStoudt-uv8nv thanks for that insight! I def minimize to 10 percent of the diet. I like RC dry foods but am not a fan of the wet so I usually choose between hills, Purina, or farmers dog as choices. “The problem isn’t is processed food bad? The question is what’s the purpose of the process.” I’m trying real hard to think of a processed food recommended for “all people”. Maybe someone can help me? Currently the closest I can come is canned fruit or veggies in water no salt added. Yes, there are some medical foods some people require, but that is a super small percentage of the population. The biggest medical reason I can think of right now is for people who have to have liquid diets because of Gastroparesis or severe intestinal dysmotility. It’s been pretty well proven by the medical community that a whole food diet, staying clear of ANY processed food is your best bet for maintaining lifelong health. We don’t feed diabetics or people with kidney or heart disease or chronic embedded urinary track infections or IBS out of a can or box. We just don’t. So why are we doing that to our animals??? The solution offered by EVERY medical specialist for people with those conditions is a diet of whole foods from the produce, meat and possibly for some dairy. Why do we buy the idea that PROCESSED food is better for our cats and dogs? Even (or maybe especially) those with chronic conditions??? 🤔🤔🤔🤔 Ah Yes. Convenience! You hit the nail on the head. Packaged food is more convenient for people to feed themselves, their families, and their pets even though science has concluded the opposite. I am sure the pet food manufacturer associations would be quick to answer that whole food diets are not accepted by veterinary professionals as being superior to processed. But that’s not a fair race from the start because feeding real whole foods is not promoted because large corporations like Nestlé, Mars, Hills etc. have too much skin in the game. (That’s the same reason why Americans are allowed to consume many chemicals and additives that are banned in Europe by the way) Probably eventually a majority of vets will begin to realize the reason so many pets are coming down with chronic illnesses, like kidney disease, diabetes, irritable bowel disease, allergies, thyroid conditions, chronic ongoing constipation, or diarrhea leading to conditions like mega colon, heart disease, gingivitis and advanced, inflammatory conditions of the gingiva and periodontal pocket, such as stomatitis etc, goes back to the diet they are fed. Currently,and sadly, most of us feed food that comes in a package. Shoot, even the food from the produce and meat departments and conventional stores could trigger auto immune diseases and some people so naturally their byproducts could do the same to animals. Sadly, I admit that I am one of those chronic condition suffer and don’t have the energy to put together my pet cat meals myself so I do feed exclusively manufactured foods. I know deep inside, just like I know that there’s something terribly amiss with our food industry, that these convenience foods are what’s causing us a lot of chronic health problems. Stats don’t lie. Look at the growth of convenience and fast food industries and compare it to the growth of human chronic conditions since about the 50s.

      As Glenn has stated time and time again, it’s the nutrients that matter. Board certified veterinary nutritionists design these diets with the perfect nutrient balance for optimal healt for the lifetime of the dog. Human convenience food is not balanced to be eaten all day everyday. It is for convenience, and taste, like a hot dog would be to a dog. Luckily we don’t feed our dogs hotdogs but rely on those well educated nutritionists to get it right. The nutrient levels and balanced nutrition is very critical and has a tiny, almost non existent margin of error. Sadly, over 90% home made pet food is lacking in critical nutrients

    • @Wendy-ce5gd
      @Wendy-ce5gd День тому

      @@StephanieStoudt-uv8nv you are right about the recipes floating around out there. Wouldn’t it be ideal for vets to hand out recipes for pets owners who are willing to cook for their pet? Therein bridge this gap. I do think some people eat all processed food. We have to be careful without fresh or frozen meat we buy. Some DO contain additives that don’t belong there. So if people buy a brand of chicken with carrageenan added, then pear that with oven baked Ore-Ida french fries, or garlic instant mashed potatoes, and a canned vegetable, it doesn’t really look processed, but it is

    • @StephanieStoudt-uv8nv
      @StephanieStoudt-uv8nv День тому

      I get what you are saying. But regarding home cooked recipes, vets rely on nutrition information from boar certified veterinary nutritionists. They are the only ones qualified to formulate recipes for pets. If you want to cook for your pet, your vet can recommend a consult with one. They will develop a recipe strictly for your pet. But you have to follow exactly. No substitutions. One substitution can throw off the absorption of another nutrient. Nutrient balance is much more critical for pets than humans. As far as human diet, I rarely buy meat from grocery store, and make pretty much home made food, salads, side dishes

    I am guilty of being that guilt person on brands of dog food. I was person thinking rachel or karen B. Were 💯. Im slowly getting out of that. I am not saying that food they suggest isnt good. What i believed is anything outside of the stuff they hate was bad and deadly with 4D meats. And including Rx diets. My wake up call was when my 15yo dog wouldn't eat many things anymore and i had to try a wide variety of stuff id never thought id ever buy feeling they r poison. But i know she has to eat and human stuff wasn't always her favorite either so trial n error which still is now that shes 16. We are speaking can, kibble, raw, dehydrated, freeze dried, freshmeat cooked. Point is. She was Dx with sebaceous adenitis b4 the picky Ness and i was worried her skin may worsen. So most days she will eat some of that so called garbage food purina dog chow, kibbles and bits, certain pedigree. This is also incorporated with stuff rachel or karen B would love. But her skin never worsened, her poops never worsened. Im doing the same as b4 and give a medicated bath every other week and shes as great as ever. My other dog eats it sometimes also, n her skin is beautiful shiny no allergies . Ive always given added omega's but i really thought her body would react to the food negativity. I cant swear if she didnt have a rotational diet and other whole foods or quote better foods into diet . But she eats enough of the bad kibble that if it was so bad her body would had reacted even if she had an adenitis breakout. She has not had any breakouts in many months. Your channel has been my second wake up call learning that not all those brands they hate are all 4D meats or the Rx diets will shorten their life. Obviously my babies are getting the nutrition they need you can tell by their coats and longevity. I love them more than anything so id never want to give them something dangerous, which is how it makes me feel about those brands if i listen to karen B or rachel or anyone like that. Very sad they're pushing a narrative thats not true.

    Well this was interesting. Both the dog and cat canned food for sensitive stomach is grain free. The ingredients are nearly identical. The cat food lists taurine in the ingredients, the dog food does not. What the dog food does have is carrageenan. Those world's greatest nutritionists seem to have missed that an NIH study found carrageenan to be "linked to IBD, IBS, rheumatoid arthritis and colon cancer and is thus banned in the European Union." According to the FDA, carrageenan is also genotoxic. "A genotoxin is a chemical or agent that can cause DNA or chromosomal damage." I tried Hill's dry food for sensitive stomach. (It was on sale and I had frequent flyer points). I mixed it with the cats' regular food and fed it by itself. It made Panda throw up. Happy Sardine Sunday!

    Could you review Hill's PD Derm Defense for dogs? We are currently feeding raw, switched last year in december due to various allregies (some food but mosty environmental). My dog is a 2.5yr old pittie mix and even tho he hasn't been scratching a lot in the past months, obviously due to not being high allergy season, his fur just won't grow back on his neck, behind the years and on his belly. He's been on Z/D prior to the switch to raw and while his poop was perfect, the skin issues were just bad... So I was thinking about giving a Derm Defense a try. Allergy testing has been done with a vet dermatologist and he gets Cytopoint shots from April to October. So I wonder what you think about Derm Defense.

The new diet has the same antioxidant package, including quercitin, to normalize the immune response to environmental allergens, but Hills took out the chicken and uses egg as the only protein source. They found egg is a natural anti inflammatory and 70 dogs with confirmed food allergies did not react to egg.

    • @PetFoodPuzzleGuy
      @PetFoodPuzzleGuy 5 днів тому

      Well I would really limit the topper since the Go is already balanced. The protein is more than enough. There is no benefit to high protein, just marketing.

      I will be careful! I am replacing some of the food with the topper…maybe 1/4 of a cup topper after leaving out 1/4 cup of food…maybe even less than that…just want the variety of organ meats in a bit of the food. This is for a 3 month old pup.

    6:53 - traditional. These folks believe traditional medicine or folk medicine is better than evidence-based or science-based medicine. Only evidence-based medicine or evidence-based nutrition is progressive. It's a reoccurring theme. "raw is better because dogs used to be wolves 10 000 years ago", "dog used to be healthier when they were fed table scraps in the 1950s" and so on. And it's the same here with medicine. They believe the yesteryears are better than the present.

    • @ZaryaTheLaika
      @ZaryaTheLaika 6 днів тому

      It's the same when people talk about how dogs used to be healthier 75 years ago but they don't really use the proper terminology like "closed studbook" or "MHC complex" and "genetic diversity" to explain why pedigreed dogs gotten sicker over the decades compared to their ancestors. One is nostalgia for the past; the latter is a scientific explanation why a historical development was a mistake.

    Some people are so stubborn in their believes. Recently on one of my facebook groups, there were multiple people asking for help to reduce their dogs weight (they were seriously very overweight) Of course i mentioned hills metabolic or metabolic + mobility, The backlash i received was absolutely insane. Many people jumped in to say STOP FEEDING KIBBLE and put the dogs on a high meat low carb diet. Well that just so happened to be what the dogs had been eating.. and the poor things needed to lose half their body weight. Then i went on to say the importance of nutrients and how important a balanced diet was and pointed out the fact 90% of DIY diets are deficient in crucial nutrients. of course yet again i got accused of spreading misinformation even though i linked the research which confirms my statement. I can only hope in the end that these particular dogs got the help they needed. But unfortunately, some people are VERY stubborn and will refuse to listen to reason. Instagram, Facebook, UA-cam and TikTok is full of misinformation and fear mongering. It's sad really because i see so many dogs in need of help but their owners are too set in their believes and have been brain washed for far too long.

    When I got my 14 mo old Bernese Mountain Dog as a puppy, I was a sucker for marketing. I knew nothing but wanted to give her the best. After 2 months of diarrhea so bad that potty training was not possible, I made an appointment to see our Vet. She recommended Hill's GI Biome. I brought home a bag and read the ingredients... Ground Pecan shells. I said no way this garbage. Then a few days later after feeding a premium brand, I was up 4 times that with a sick dog, mopping my floors, rolling my living room 9x12 area rug up to drag the dumpster at 4 am. I decided there and then to try the GI Biome. It worked and I swear by it.

    It truly baffles my mind how people think therapeutic diets do not work? But like you say in the video marketing is powerful. I mean cats with chronic kidney disease are fed a therapeutic diet and they can live for years eating this special food. In addition to urinary feline diets for struvite crystals and calcium oxalate stones. They’re intended to be fed for a cat’s entire life because they work! I will never understand why people think there is a big conspiracy around therapeutic diets? Vets aren’t making millions by recommending these diets. They do it because it’s backed up by science and they actually work to resolve your pets health issues.

Three weeks later, and we were in the vet's office with vomiting. First thing she told me was to put my dog back on purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach kibble.
