Can you play for free at only a few games a day? Sure, but why the hell would you play a game where the biggest aspect is deck design freedom, only to be severely limited in resources and then stomped out by meta decks (which people play in casual nonstop btw). The average aggro deck has maybe 10 rares in it and the average control/midrange deck has around 30 rares and 8 to 10 mythics. That will take you an entire seasons of devoting every single one of your wild cards just to craft it with very little time to climb ranked with it. For ranked F2P either play aggro decks or they don't play the game at all because homebrew decks are not worth wasting your wildcards on. It is not a fun experience to log in, que up and lose 70% of your matches because you are lacking so many key cards to even be remotely competitive, just to get dailies done so you can bank enough gold to draft after 5 days. Then when it comes to drafting you actually have to know how to draft to win and you're limited to the reward packs which are always the most recent set. It's the worst, most predatory in game economy of any F2P game I've ever seen because it intentionally gates the biggest parts of the MTG experience behind outrageous costs of time or money and then compounds it with algorithmic manipulation via MMR, hang smoothing and trying to force 50% winrates to encourage buying out of frustration.

I recently did some math on buying the 20,000 gem option for $100 US and concluded that you get 7 Mastery Passes for the money, when you consider that the Mastery Passes reimburse 800 gems. That's $14.28 US per Mastery Pass and 1.75 years of participation, assuming 4 sets per year. Put into that context it seems like a decent deal as long as you are putting in the time.

A majority of the cards don’t pop up in the deck builder screen. I have it set to standard. Am I missing something?

I would argue every method is the best until diminishing returns come in. 10 jump ins > 20-30 drafts total > Packs is mostly what I do as a f2p player. I feel jump ins gives more raw cards but drops off quickly. Draft is pretty good too but eventually drops off imho since people starting in gold are harder to win against. Then packs just give the most raw value thereafter.

Have been experiencing very poor Rare and Mythic drafting in the Bloomburrow Premier event. Got only 4 Rares and 3 Mythics in my first attempt (was taking every Rare or Mythic offered to me), and only 4 Rares and 1 Mythic in my 2nd attempt. This puts the Premier event at a terrible return for Rares/Mythics. If I find that this continues, then I plan to no longer buy the Draft Tokens (when they are offered for discount) and only do drafts using the Draft Tokens obtained from the Mastery Pass. Thought you might want to have another data point.

Same here, but found after many drafts you do get better, know what opponent might have and be better at drafting overall.

If you are good at drafting I would say it is, otherwise it seems more like a struggle, given how competitive standard is, where many decks will OTK turn 4, only worse in other formats with a larger pool of cards to select from. Initially spent a lot to be collection complete, later on decided to F2P, by being good at drafting the best way to turn gold into gems.

The solution is to build better decks

Thanks a lot for the Videos im learning a lot thanks to them. Im a new player and i was wondering if i buy the mastery pass, always get to 10 daily wins, buy some Jump In tokens but mostly buy packs (not a fan of Draft yet) how much of a set i can get by the end of the set? On average will i get like around 1 or 2 copy of every rare/mythic or 4 copies or even 0 copies of some rare/mythics.

Does anyone know if you get the cards from Quick Draft packs that DON'T make it into your draft deck??

Maybe this could counter the utter horse manure that is Black/White in standard anymore. I just stopped for the day because I went 0/5, every game was against either Bl/W discard or Bl/W bats and I’m honest-to-god fed up with Standard being “how absolutely cheap can I be?” I like the Green/Blue frogs. I like the Red/White mice..but easily 80% of my experience in standard now is sitting there annoyed as they throw perpetual exiles/kills interspersed with discards while 5 1-2 power fluttering rodents tickle me to death.

Ive been trying to get the”mice” pack from the jump in events but i havent gotten lucky, are there any tips to increase my chances of getting them or should i just spend my coins on quick drafts instead.(I started a week ago btw)

I've played with and against this deck and it's good! I do agree though that it does get annoying if you have to play against it several times in a row. I wish they would do something about that in general with the match making...

I pretty much quit 50% qt beginning pf the game, since it's always thr same cards drawn in brawl it's insane

Ive been brewing this list since heartfire hero was first spoiled and war squeak goes incredibly hard in this list, not only does it trigger valiant on heartfire hero for 1 mana but it gets it out of cut down range and it can make heartfire hero a hasty threat AND it clears blockers, its great

Another card you can use is Sunspine Lynx a rare that prevents players from gaining life and deals damage based on how many non basic lands opponent has.

Thanks for the analysis! But just a couple of things. Sealed is missing! I think you need to take into account the gems/gold rewards. It really changes the math. Sealed for instance costs 2000 gems. You get 6 limited packs. If you get 3 wins you get 1200 gems and 3 standard packs. So in the end you spend 800 gems on average for 9.5 rares. So a rare costs 84.21 gems that way.

I did a jump in and barely got any Bloomburrow cards. What gives?

How do you get the number 1.8 rare per pack that you buy? is it 1 (rare/mythic per pack) + 1/6 (rare/mythic wildcard) + 0.1*6 (rare/mythic from golden pack) = 1.76 What is the chance, if any, to get 2 rare/mythic in a pack? is that chance the same while opening packs in a draft?

Packs and jump in are purchases, draft is investment. You can earn more than u spend, this is a huge difference if you are looking for a future imo. I would also consider events. Great video tho

I thought starter duels would be for new players, not high end players using the brainless Desert Oasis, 3/5 matches is DO. Incredibly discouraging because it's either suffer against it, play high removal EVEN THEN it might not be enough or give into the brainless cheese and play DO.

I do not know if this came up, but worth noting is that in the jump in: you do not get the same rare every time with the decks. And the rare have a chance to be upgraded to a mythic.

It depends highly on what you want to do in mtga. If you want to build a meta deck (for example mono red) the overall number of rares doesnt really matter. It's more about getting rare wildcards, which you cant get from jump in.
