I really like this type of content. So many creators make all kinds of clickbait videos about crazy strong decks. But then I look and they're going to be useless in a few months. I personally have not made any purchases from the 4 rotating sets within six months of rotation. I am not really looking forward to certain cards rotating out as I know they will be replaced with things that are just as annoying. Instead, I am looking forward to being able to buy core components of decks that will be good for the next 3 years.

This is my 1st rotation on Arena so Im very much looking forward to most of these cards leaving to level the playing field.
Ive been playing standard ever since Amonket and Arena Standard since United. I like rotation cause it keeps things fresh.
There’s always going to be a list of bullshit cards you are happy to say goodbye too. Wouldn’t get your hopes up.

personally I've been playing a lot of Brawl and saving up my draft tokens/gems/coins to get to a rapid collection-building pace for Bloomburrow which is really good, and at least some of these have retention value in older formats (pioneer, timeless & brawl) such as fable for pioneer/timeless and channel lands/triomes for domain
Farewell, with Gala Greeter a close second, is the spell I am most happy to see go. I seriously leave a game the second I see farewell. I get it-I’m rage quitting. I don’t care. I don’t want to play another essentially brand new game, only they will clearly have the upper hand-no one ever plays Farewell out of desperation unless they top deck it with 1 life point left. It’s just overpowered. It’s the Magic equivalent of the kid who would leave the court with their ball when they were going to lose the basketball game.
Sorin, Teferi, and Depopulate are all rotating out too.
The Tri-lands and Slow Lands leaving will be the most difficult to replace and hurt the most overall.
I don’t think Temporal Pilgrim is leaving…that’s the Teferi from BW right? Personally, I am ECSTATIC the 3 year old stuff is leaving. So much of it is still just…better than anything after. MH/CV alone have so many overpowered things in them, just way too much. It’s like they lost their mind in 2021 and finally went to betterhelp or something before BW. I’m tired of running into people only using Werewolves, or only using Blue/Black zombies and Toxrill-or that blue ooze-to basically win by sitting back with a big body and looking smug. Kamigawa has the Emperor, but honestly I’ll take her, because she really only hits you once. MH/CV just had so much power creep compared to what we have today that it boggles my mind how it got around play testing.
The UW Teferi Who Slows the Sunset is leaving. You are correct the Blue Teferi is staying.
Nah, Tri-lands only really gonna hurt the jank and domain decks. F those decks.
@@mark_b2 well, I won’t miss “Slows the Sunset”. The Emperor can be annoying. Jace can be annoying (being a longtime Jace and Gideon fan, I’m biased however), but Teferi is basically “I win! You can try, but I win!” I’m really just tired of being thrown at people who have something like 90% of their decks being from before Brother’s War. I’m sorry, but when most of my games, in unranked matches and ranked ones, are chock full of New Capenna, bloody werewolves (seriously-I will NOT miss those at all, or that annoying Gruul ranger tandem creature), or red/black vampire/ artifact decks.
It’s telling that the older cards are still so much better than most of the newer sets that they are STILL some of the best spells in the game. I mean “Play With Fire” and “Fading Hope” are just the best one mana nuke and bounce-scry is underrated. “Strangle” breaks the damage economy-full stop. The ability to kill a 3 toughness creature for one red mana…who honestly thought that was a good idea? “Fateful Absence” is just broken-2 mana destroy anything (and having to use 2 mana to draw a card is just salt in the wound). It’s worse than “Go For the Throat”-and that’s saying something.
In Alchemy Sheoldred, Liliana, Haughty Djinn, Sunfall, Leyline Binding, Knight-Errant of Eos, Gix's Command, Breach the Multiverse, Squee, Feldon, Etali, Venerated Rotpriest, Mirrex, Jace the Perfected Mind, all do rotate out.
That's what a 2 year standard would look like. Very refreshing I must say.
Yeah I think it's their secret plan to make people want to play Alchemy more.
i am so happy that Kumano is rotating but also incredibly disappointed more isn't being taken from the mono red deck. they just keep printing amazing cards for it!!

for context it was around when the Thrones of Eldraine block rotated and the first D&d set was released. if I remember correctly mono red didn't start being good again until Kamigawa? idk I just remembered they were suddenly back and killing me on turn 4 again lmao

I LOVE the multi-faceted nature of Titan of Industry, I'll be sad to see it go. Celestus was key in some of my Orzhov control decks, so ot being gone is sad. Although I am mostly an Orzhov mage with some green splashed in here and there, I kind of hoped Sheoldred was rotated. It's such a good card that I feel bad for playing it, but also feel bad when I don't ibclude it in my decks.
This is so needed. Some really big hits depending on what kind of deck you like but I'm willing to bet that people are loving that "memory deluge, farewell, and wandering emperor" are all leaving. Loosing all of the marches and lands will be tough too but change is good. I'm very curious to see how it plays out
I can't wait for all those cards to go. I have only been playing since wilds and am looking forward to having more playable cards.

Other than that great video. Very excited to see most of these cards go as I'm a home brewer and not a net decker lol.
This will be very helpful (later on when I can watch it); I know several of my favorite decks will need to be revamped to play in Standard. Some lean so heavily on cards rotating out that I may just scratch them and dream up new fun.
I really haven't been using MKM and OTJ cards much, yet.
This was super helpful! Will sincerely miss Sokenzan and Kumano in my MRG decks but im REALLY excited to see Farewell and Wandering leaving!
wow, i wasn't thinking we were losing that much but as you were going through, I was surprised by how many of the decks I currently play are being affected. i think the enchantment deck is just over with but several others are taking a hit too. happy to see the control and ramp/domain deck take a hit, i hate playing against those...

I don't know about you but I'm still thankful that so many strategies are losing power because I haven't been able to win a standard event for a long time, I hope that with a moderately dominant deck I can overcome this format change and recover the gems I spent on the season pass and drafts.
What do you mean? You want several decks to be unplayable so you can have only one op deck so you can cheese your way out of the game by playing an op deck instead of being a good player? Thats cringe.

I'm gonna really miss SNC and Kamigawa to be honest, they're two of my favorite sets and Giada is probably my all time favorite creature and I don't have much hope for my 5c angel tribal being playable in historic :( Losing the Kamigawa lands is also a heartbreaker. I can't even be happy about Farewell rotating because Sunfall is infinitely worse and isn't going anywhere.
The things I will not miss are the triomes and SNC fetchlands, I never want to see domain or that Aftermath Analyst deck again.
At least GW Angels shows up in Explorer:)

I have a few fun decks, outside of the meta-darlings, I'm going to really miss, but for the most part I'm really looking forward to rotation
Just wanted to add that some cards that are rotating from Standard this year could be still useful in other Arena formats that don't rotate, for instance 2 x Unlicensed Hearse in your sideboard if you play Rakdos sacrifice in Explorer Bo3.
Looking forward to rotation, its the best part about Standard, wished it happened every set release personally (but that might upset people who play Standard with physical cards, if they still exist).
Farewell, Kumano Faces Kakazan, Raffine, Wandering Emperor, Raffine, and Wedding Announcement are all cards im very excited to see gone now (and i like playing control, i just think theyre poorly designed cards).
The enchantment deck im not sure if im happy or sad about. Im obviously sad to lose the lands as i feel like aggro benefits and control loses out (which in general I think we have too much aggro on Arena).
Oh, the Capenna sacrifice/fetch lands I'm happy to see the back of so the lands deck can go away haha.
Very glad the sac-lands are going. No fun watching opponent respond to a million land triggers each turn.
I predict even more mono-black going forward, as that is not really losing anything integral to the core of the deck.
its sad, its my first rotation. When i startet after some time the rotation plan was changed, so i ve learned with all that cards that fall away now. It will be an interesting time then.
I haven't been able to finish setting up my azorius control for more than a month and I've already lost my gears, my massive removal and my empress, not to mention my other 4 mana card with flashback; even my azorius with rakdos joins up loses too much in this situation. Also my mono black discard is very sad without the wolf, I feel on the edge like when I started in magic.
golgari feels really good atm, lots of selection, removal and recurring threats. Mono black is my main jam and its solid but too slow for midrange and lacks top end creatures imo.
@@txflood2519 The thing about Golgari is the only good cards it's losing is the Trespasser.
I'm looking at Farsight Ritual as a replacement for Memory Deluge. Bargain away a Deduce token to dig 8 cards deep for 4 mana is strong.
@@MartinSparkes-BadDragon Sounds good. Tho it might be tough to replace Emperor turn 4 has always been a pause for those to attack a control deck. I like my Steel Seraph tho so i just give vigilance lol.
That's why I am playing angel tribal and boros bombardment mostly lately, with Giada and Arcane Bombardment gone, those archetypes leave standard, too. Surge of salvation is a perfect fit in bombardment decks, won me so many games, and just beat direct damage based combo decks, just wait until they put every pieces on the stack, then make yourself hexproof :). I am more of a combo/control player, sad to lose all those cards for these deck styles, farewell, marches, hulkbreaker horror, waifu, shegeki and skyturtle combo, deluge, all slow lands and tri-lands, since I built and played many different color combinations of control decks.
Any tips on preparing new decks for the new rotation? Like, how do you know what cards to start crafting for jank decks to prep for the mass exodus and potential new features in future sets...Would be a neat vid

So glad to see the Emperor go, and I love UW control! It just single-handedly nullifies almost every strategy to deal with the UW control, provides bodies and if you don't force her out, you can bet you'll see the EoT Deluge or T5 Sunfall.
I got to the point where I just insta-surrender against azorius control decks both on the ladder and regular games. So can attest to how annoying she is.
Considering how much time it took them to reprint fastlands in a standard set (about 8 years for enemy colors and over 12 for allied colors) I'm not expecting the slow lands to be reprinted any time soon, which is a bit of a bummer also considering the SNC triomes are also going with the rotation.
We're returning to Ikoria later this year. Swapping one set of triomes for the other.

@@theanalogkidmodular the wedge triomes are locked to Ikoria due to their names (same goes with the allied fast lands and shard triomes)
The only time they can be reprinted is in a revisit to that plane, and triomes will help sell packs.

For me eras of arena are separated by blue 4 mana draw 2 cards spells really. And so many other controo cards rotate... Kamigawa was a banger.

great stuff! I'm wondering if there's a web site that helps manage all these rotations, so you paste the deck there and it tells you when they are going to rotate out so you don't waste wildcards on them
There probably is somewhere. I have a spreadsheet of the rares worth crafting in Standard on my Patreon, which includes the rotation dates 👍

@@pointyheadYT I meant sheoldred and stuff. The red deck is fairly balanced in pro play. it is just annoying to play against it in arena.
i am new to mtg. i use to play magic from alpha threw 8th ed coming out in 04.. obviously a lot has changed over the last 20 years but now finding arena it is nice to find a way to enjoy the game without spending hundreds or even thousands on paper cards that mostly would sit in a box. This way there is someone to play with no matter the day or time. When i first started someone said build a mono red deck, and i did. it is a fun deck somewhat, and wins A LOT for my daily quest! However I want to make a fun deck to cassually play without killing someone on turn 3-4. Can you make a video on how to build a deck form scratch?? I don't have a lot of wildcards.. but i dont mind spending them to break up the monotony . Recomendations would be great!

So i keep getting a arena message that cards from brothers war and dominaria united are rotating on arena which i thought was weird.

As a UW player, so sad to see Emperor and Deluge going away. I’ve been farming Boros and Mono Red in Standard Event with the deck. Hoping for better replacements in the future.
There is a adequate replacement for deluge. Its the bargain one in Wilds. Its not as good without flashback but it's decent.

You can’t imagine how much I loathe Farewell-it should NEVER have existed. EVER. It it so powerful. 2021 was the year of COVID crazies at WotC.
My main reason to hate Farewell is because defeats everything except lands and planeswalkers, and it was making the recent pair of artifact lands a joke to play...
Getting back into magic after not playing since around when Dominaria launched. What do you recommend building going into this rotation? I love blue/white control, but it seems like it's getting hit really hard
Yeah control is losing quite a few good pieces, but it's still a good archetype to build. If there's anything new that replaces Memory Deluge then control is definitely going to be just fine.

I just started playing Arena like in February, and I dont quite get it. Are these the only cards that are rotating out? What about Intrepid Adversary or Brutal Cathar? I thought my entire mono white humans deck was going to get shot.
Also, my saddest card that is leaving is my Emperor, I really like that card, its become my favorite. But im most happy about some board wipes f'ing off though, but they definitely need to ban Lockdown, Depopulate, Sunfall, No Witness, Suns Twilight, Deadly Cover Up, among all the other ones too. Except The Eternal Wanderer of course.
It's not just these particular cards, it's every card from Midnight Hunt, Crimson Vow, Kamigawa and New Capenna. You just have to get used to board wipes, they're an important part of the game and will always be there, but there are ways to play around them.
@@gameschooldadMTG Yeah. The most effective way I've learned to play around board wipes is by also playing a blue/white control cancer deck that doesnt let the opponent do anything. Theres just too many board wipes to deal with atm, as I listed a lot of them but not all. Ban or limit some I say.

i know this isn't going to be a popular petition, but can you please share a "deck" with only this cards? is to have it saved to see when i have doubt what to craft, because i play in Spanish and sometimes is difficult to remember what's gonna rotate out especially when i saw the name on English here. it would help me a lot 🙏

As a new player who crafted a mono blue tempo deck (Mostly made out of Kamigawa cards) I feel sad. Definitely won’t be strong enough to keep playing in historic and I can’t really afford a new standard deck
You've got 2 months until they rotate, so there's still time to craft new cards 👍
Just switch to brawl then. You've got that crucius deck that only has village rites and caldera breaker in it and the rest is just lands lol. (2xMythic wildcard, 1xUncommon wildcard... thats it) Its got like 70% winrate xd

Save your rare and mythic wildcards as much as possible until you're sure about a card. I've got a few videos on rare cards worth crafting for each set, so you can see what I've listed in those videos. I'd recommend just using the common and uncommon wildcards to make decent budget decks to start with.
I kind of wish we could trade in rare or mythic cards for wild cards. Altho i think that would tank the economy of Arena.

Should've rotated a year ago. Sadly Wizards was too greedy. Couldn't resist mixing in 2 year old sets into recent rewards.
Dang I use Atsushi and Titan of Industry a lot, Celestus as well. Good riddance to Farewell though!
Question: when is the Rotation going to happen? I know in this year but which month? P. S. no more 'cursed' Farewell and Wandering Emperor, though Haughty Djinn still remain, I am very happy with that rotation.
I believe the rotation will actually happen on 30th July when Bloomburrow comes to Arena.

Long Goodbye Is a very good answer to Haughty Djinn and any other creature under 3 mana such as Graveyard Trespasser and Raffine, just remember to decline the ward cost.
Unlicensed Hearse just got a reprinting in Thunder Junction, so you probably have that for another couple years.
Rotation won’t bother me, because standard is almost dead at my 2 LGS, and I’m playing commander. It just means I can pick cards up cheap.
I think unlicensed heard has been reprinted on OTJ as part of a special set, no?
Yes, but the format legality is still based on the original card. The OTJ version is technically just a new card style.

Im new to rotation, but didn’t unlicensed hearse get a reprint in thunder junction, why is it still rotating out?
Good question. The Unlicensed Hearse card in OTJ is a bonus sheet card from a set called Breaking News, which is basically a new art style for an existing card. They're playable in OTJ Limited, and whatever formats the original cards are legal in, so the Hearse still rotates out with New Capenna.

Yes, as a new artwork, but it still rotates out.

Mono red dies pretty good against most midrange decks. Just annoying to play against.
I don't mind it because I know exactly what they're going to play and it makes it easier to beat.

Angels & Life gain loses some key early pieces
Temur Control loses its land base and recursion
Domain Ramp loses its land base
Esper mid-range loses Raffine
4c Reanimator loses some core cantrips
I have been playing MTGA for just a week. I have over 20 hours in the game, so I currently only have 2 decks: the mono blue tempo I've been playing for 4 days and the mono white humans I created today. I had no idea that my mono white humans cards could be removed from the game. I spent 20 rare and 8 mythic wildcards on this deck. Do you think I should start with a new account? I’m feeling bad rn
The cards are only taken out of Standard, they're still playable in other formats that don't rotate out. I don't think there's any need to start with a new account, it's just good to be aware of it when you use wildcards in the future.

I'm happy to say farewell to Farewell. That card is so evil against my durdly jank piles. Opponents finally have to go one for one against my weird value-based artifacts and enchantments. 😈

I've only ever seen celestus properly played in off-meta azorius artifacts decks. It was never a huge problem.

Generally it's better to invest in newer cards because they'll be around in Standard for longer. Right now it's best to avoid crafting anything from Midnight Hunt, Crimson Vow, Kamigawa and New Capenna.

You can if you want, but it's much easier to adapt to a rotating Standard than match the power level and complexity of Historic.
Heads up….the mid-week event has the Azorius Control deck as an option for people….I’m currently 0/11 in the event…and it’s thrown me as a sacrifice to it and the Esper deck EVERY ROUND. I’ll probably stop doing it. Whoever chose the decks for the event needs to be demoted.
I just used the Boros Convoke deck and got my wins on both of my accounts quickly enough. It's not the most exciting event for people who play Standard most days.
@@gameschooldadMTG yeah, I used Boros Convoke after going 0/18 total-against Azorius, no joke, around 15 of those games-Boros went 3/5 after that. It’s a boring event, but honestly, putting that control deck in it was just wrong. It’s not fun to play against. Eating Sunfall 3 times in a game gets old fast. It made me realize how happy I will be when half of that deck leaves Standard. All it needed was “Farewell” to complete the “August can’t come fast enough” Bingo card.
