My first MKM premier draft I picked 9 rares and passed on 1 rare and 1 mythic... Amazing value. My next drafts were quick drafts and didn't see as many rares being passed on by the AI. Cheers!
In theory that's how it should work. However, the difference between Premier and QD is massive: mine and a lot of other people's experience has been that bots are still extremely stingy with rares and pick almost every rare along the way.. The only time I've seen them pass a rare are Pick 2 in a pack when their pack had 2 rares or bad rares like the white case or Connecting the dots - those are often passed.. Otherwise, you don't really see and get to pick more than previous sets. I've quick drafted a lot the recent days and never could pick more than 4 rares. At least you can rare draft and still build decent decks in QD and go infinite because bots undervalue a lot of grest C/UC cards and competition is pretty weak in QD, compared to Premier. In Premier, you indeed pick around 7-9 rares per draft and often those are actually playable and not just pack filler. However, rare drafting in Premier significantly lowers the win rate.
BTW... I also use drafts to farm gems to buy my mastery pass (for free?) every new set release, oh and to get an extra pack or 2 from the limited ranking system! (not factored into your value charts comparing buying packs to drafting) Cheers!
Actually MAKM does have list cards and special guest cards in the draft packs that are not part of the set. Show and Tell, Field of the Dead, Mass Hysteria just to name a few.
Rare drafting might be better, but did you notice they silently removed quick draft ranking? That sucks. Can't get limited rank in the cheaper queue, anymore.
I heard someone say that but I hadn't confirmed it myself. It seems more likely to be a bug to be honest, so hopefully that's it and it'll be back to normal soon. If not, that definitely sucks.
The issue I have with this is that most rares in any given set are pretty ass anyway, so the idea that I'd want to get most of them is kind of null and void. I think the entire process of judging the game's economy is even harder when you throw that into the mix. Still, I just had a nice draft where I grabbed 4 Rares/Mythics that I actually somewhat liked (while passing over probably four or five I will never use) while making a really strong simic deck that has a good chance of winning me 5+ games. Truly, I think the value of any given draft-- quick or otherwise-- is very poor if you're not enjoying the experience. You get so few cards that are actually useful on a per draft basis, even when doing well, that you're better off just doing something you enjoy. Perhaps that's Standard Metagame challenges or something else. Idk. Heck, maybe it's literally just working a side gig to afford buying packs on Arena rather than grinding away in drafts.
Listen man, this is excellent work that you've done, and I really apprecaite the effort you've put into giving us the tools to maximize the value we get out of this game . . . That said! I think it's pretty fucked up that Hasbro is so greedy that they would design the product to work this way, and the fact that these kinds of videos even *have to exist* is an indictment of that company and their practices. P.S. They laid off a ton talent right before xmas (during a year of RECORD BREAKING PROFITS) aaaaand have been caught red-handed using AI-generated art. If we keep giving them money, they will eventually automate the whole thing and fire everyone, cuz when art becomes commodified, there suddenly exists the incentives to remove the artist from the process.
Most big businesses have pretty shady practices, which I really hate. I don't have any issues with MTG Arena specifically because you can still get so much value and enjoyment without having to pay anything at all. I am worried that Hasbro will eventually decide it's too generous and make it some kind of mandatory monthly subscription to play anything other than bot matches. For now, I'm grateful for what we've got.
Somehow it feels like the bots take any and every rare in the Packs, regardless of their draftet colors. I get more rares drafting premier draft than Quick draft which has never happend in the Sets before i think....
I don't play enough Quick Draft any more to really test it, but it seems pretty likely that bots will just take the highest value cards because they don't actually have any reason to need to build a workable deck. It would be nice and a more authentic experience if the bots drafted in a way that makes sense for them as if they were using the deck.
Wrote another comment about exactly that. You don't notice a difference in Draft Booster because bots still pick all rares, netting you the same amount of rares (3-4) as previous sets. If you are not a drafter, buy packs with the gold or save up for Premier and pick 2-3 times the amount of rares.
@gameschooldadMTG likely stems from me hating draft formats and only doing it if I'm like I'll come out ahead by cherry picking the rares and the end of month of you did "limited" as well so have another pack
I am sold that they are manipulating the cards because even when I had choices of rares I did not like any of them so a pile of junk cards are what I saw.Furthermore I can't stand this set I don't want to play ANY of the disguise cards.I did notice a few general purpose cards I would want but he odds of getting those imo would be like 1% to maybe get one of them.
@@1who4me in a casino you pay to enter the game, and you're playing to take money away from the casino, of course they are designed for you not to win on average. On Arena you don't have to pay at all and you're not competing to take money away from the company, so it's not a very relevant analogy.
I have been quick drafting and noticed more rares that I have been picking. My win rate has not gone up but the smile rate has 😊

This draft season has been brutal in terms of wins but pretty solid in rares per draft
Agreed
First premier Draft I did got me I think 9 or 10 rares (including 3 mythics) which was crazy

It got so bad that I quit Arena for 3 years now.😅
Thinking of returning for a draft here and there.

Yes it does 👍
Yeah, I got Field of the Dead today and couple of days it was some other "guest" mythic card I think.

Yikes... thats worrisome... I often do draft just for the free extra pack (or 2) and the end of each month!
It's a visual bug. Go to your profile after some matches and see that your rank changed. Cheers!
Thank you
You're welcome 👍
Does what you say about rare drafting apply to both quick and premier drafts?
Sorry, I just got to the part where you address this question
I was offered many more rares in premier than quick draft... but small sample size. (see my comment on details) Cheers!
Are all packs now play boosters on Arena including previous sets?
No I believe it's only for Karlov Manor Drafts that the Play Boosters are available in.

Hello, I'm a new player. Can I ask why I'm not able to play rank even though I already finished the color and sparky's challenge
There's the Starter Deck Duel and Spark Rank first before normal ranked, unless they've added additional challenges.
I noticed the change in pack but I still think premier draft is better for your money in terms of rewards.
It is if you get 3 wins or more.

People play thier drafts? And dont just retire / concede to pick up rares?
You're welcome to give up potential winnings if you want, but I don't see why you would.

Of course they are. Arena is a casino and the house always wins.

there is no such thing as draft anymore
Not sure what that means, but ok 👍
@@gameschooldadMTG Well arena calls it draft, but with these Awful packs its not draft its a limited picking event
