I decided to play this game after watching a video and finding the concept very interesting, mixing GTA and Tomb Raider, but soon after the tutorial stages I was disappointed, because the gameplay was quite unpleasant. Fighting multiple enemies is painful, getting the timing of combos right is tough, especially for a beginner, and the driving tests... HORRIBLE! And one of the game's main features, which are the weapons, is not explained in the tutorial (not even how to search enemies, which is essential to get more items). The game starts to get interesting when the real missions really start. At first, they are quite easy and fast, even boring, but the difficulty progresses and presents challenges with stronger enemies, in greater numbers and longer missions. The game features fighting, shooting and driving mechanics (similar to what True Crime brought to the PS2). The driving is horrible, as mentioned, but in the missions, vehicles are basically ignored. As for the fighting, the idea of combos is interesting, and of being able to fight against several enemies surrounding you, varying the direction of the attacks... but in practice it is not that effective, and you always end up getting hit. This made me avoid confrontation against several enemies, running away, luring, and fighting one at a time, or... simply knocking one down and handcuffing him (even surrounded by others). The game still requires a certain amount of jumping, and they are even functional... as long as you take your time to "adjust" your character before jumping. Trying to run, turn and jump is practically impossible. Your worst enemy in this game is the camera. Sometimes it is extremely dysfunctional, facing a direction that is not your character's direction, and if you are on ledges or trying to escape from enemies this can sometimes lead to death. Another difficulty is that sometimes the character enters an automatic fight/shooting mode, aiming at an opponent, and you want to change targets or even run away, but the character gets stuck facing the same one, putting you in danger. These difficulties, mainly with the movement aligned with the combat, which generates an aversion at the beginning of the game, but as said, if you persist, you get used to the game, and it starts to become more enjoyable. That's not to say I didn't face several other frustrations, like dying in an elevator, dying instantly in a fire, falling due to unexpected movements, and also facing the problem of missions where another character "helps you"... for a moment, they seem to be very useful, really fighting the enemies, but... other times they simply put themselves in a dangerous situation and die, making you fail the mission. There are bugs, like in the mission The Fallen I killed a guy before he said something, and that didn't activate an enemy on the roof, and it didn't fail the mission... making me waste time. I also suffered a crash in the mission Arms Breaker, so I had to switch to a PAL image, and convert the memory card save, in order to continue the game. The resolution changed because of that, but I continued the recording as it was. Another mission, Rat Catch, also has a problem of crashing when activating dialogues, both in NTSC and PAL, but since it's an alternative, I completed the game without doing it. Some missions are puzzles, where you have to find your way (like jumping from a building to another), and when you mix enemies and time, it can get a bit complicated (I ended up having to use save states to train in some points). The game has a replayability factor, as there are several 'extras' throughout the missions, and it can be another challenge to collect them all. Overall, I consider it a very good game, which of course could have had more enjoyable gameplay, but considering the time, this was being refined, especially for a game as ambitious as this one. It's a shame that many people don't know it, and others have moved away due to the initial frustration of adapting to the game. I confess that I myself had moments of anger even at the end of the game, but it's fair to say that it's a good game that deserves to be known by more people, and that they give the title a bigger chance.
