You know what those brushes are really good for? Layering gouache. Just the right spring/softness, at least for my hand to not disturb the layer below. I bought a three pack of brushes that look the same at our local discounter Action here in the Netherlands and have been pleasantly surprised. Thank you for this review and your relaxing voice. Plus you made me laugh yesterday and I really needed it. 🙂.

Thank you Pete! Glad to hear you recommend this set. As a beginner I’ve gotten a few different types of watercolors, but this is a big set and creamy. I might now give this a try or stick to the ones in my cart Holbein or shinhan PWC. Haven’t decided. 😂 so many choices

This may sound strange, but there is a point around 18:40 that this painting reminds me of Mercury's boots.. I know, I think he wore sandals or whatever, but that's what it made me think of.

Awe, your new video made me realize I missed your old video! I love Meeden products. ❤️ Meeden watercolors where my first upgrade and I was thrilled with them. They remind me a lot of Da Vinci paints. They dry really well and re-wet easily. ❤

never used a flat with water color, i like them for acrylic. oddly i don't remember your dislike of the flat in this set. i love "arting" i "art" all the time and never worry about it. my best friend asks me what i did today and i just say, "i arted" she gets excited to see what i did when i say that because it could be almost anything. it might even be for her LOL i'm not exactly a beginner but i am interested in getting their paper next time i get paper.

I really need to try out the Meeden watercolor paper. I’ve avoided it because I always considered that it was student grade paper. After your comments about it, I’m intrigued. From what I understand, Baohong is making Meeden’s paper for them. I actually use the artist grade Baohong cold press paper and I love the stuff. I like it better than Arches. For me I can’t see any real difference between them. I haven’t tried Baohong academy grade paper. Though I’ve heard there isn’t much difference between the artist grade and academy grade. But according to the rumor mill. Baohong academy is what Meeden uses. It would be interesting if this was true. Anyway…… I think I need to get some Meeden watercolor paper. Since you’re super tight buddies with Meeden, maybe you could find out who makes their paper for them? 🙂 Or not. Choose your adventure. 😂

I really enjoyed the first piece, but I LOVE the second piece. I must admit to having problems when it comes to abstract art. Many pieces of abstract art appeal to me, whether for the colors used, the flow of the painting, or some remind me of an object or situation, but I have never 'understood' abstract art. Like, I don't normally get a sense of what the artist was thinking or feeling while making the piece, so I feel that I fall short as an observer of their art. Are we meant to understand? Or simply to admire? (please don't think of me as a barbarian or an idiot, I really would like to hear from an abstract artist what they would like from their audience)

Thank you for the Art Pigment link, very helpful. That Cerulean Blue definitely looks like a Cobalt Teal. Mine is much bluer than yours is. It's amazing how the colours change from brand to brand. Still wading through that. I totally agree with you on the pure pigment idea. I have some Kusakabe paints from Japan which are all mixes of pigments and some of them are the colours I use the most. Such beautiful combinations. I love Meeden's paper too. Looks like someone did some acid in the farmhouse, lol

I’m so glad you reviewed this as I just insomnia purchase the 149 piece set to try oils for the first time and it comes with these watercolor paints too. They look like they’ll be great for a sketchbook and not worrying about being too precious with them.
