i'm happy with an emoji. at least you read my comment. those creators who don't acknowledge at all always feel like they just ignored me or didn't bother to read their comments. glad you feel better for the rant
I totally LOVE the first piece.…I have to say this is one of my very favorites. It’s Awesome, Pete. I like the second one as well, it reminds me of beautiful gems bursting from the earth. I truly don’t mind emoji’s at all. They often make me smile. Have a wonderful week and look forward to your next video. Thanks Pete.
Hi Pete, ❤I just love you - first you always make me laugh at you and myself!! You always give great wisdom and healing discussions, specifically to help us understand the creative process is self growth beyond definitive navigation - teaching us to let go and enjoy and let the miracles unfold .
“Ranting in my own mind”- i love it! Oh i need to go through your associate link! And i am awake on a Sunday night! I will listen again with coffee in the morning. 😃❤️
I like both pieces ... the first is like a Sumi-e print, so restful. The second is, playful, like a rock I would happily try to climb. I'm adding an emoji ... 👍
Emojis are appreciated by me. If i don't ask a question, i don't expect a response. But yeah, it lets me know you got my message, and that's the important part. I don't comment for myself, i comment for the artist. The tip thing sucks. I heard recently that Walmart will add things too. You always have to check all receipts.
I like the first one - feels like I'm at the lake during sunset. :). I'm on you with the tipping part - and it did happened to me a couple of times and the worst was minimum 20% that they charged. Did not make a fuss about it but that was the last time I was there - hope they enjoyed that 20%.
That's ridiculous! They aren't going to be around long treating their customers like that. The first one was done when I was just hanging out sketching in my studio. I tend to record everything I do in there just in case. It intrigued me so I did the second one the next day. I think they came out ok. 👍🏻
Ahh the emoji dilemma. I have heard that a certain age group of people isn’t fond of the emoji specially the 👍 I haven’t dug into the logic behind it though. It doesn’t bother me but the personal comment response is always nice to see as well. 😁 Re: Automatic gratuities I would be angrier with the business for having a POS system that automatically adds a gratuity and puts the onus on a low wage staff member to remove it before completing the sale. I’m sure there are enough processes to remember with some of those cash registers that adding that to the job is a constant frustration.
Finally, someone else who's heard about the emoji thing. If someone asks a question then I try to respond but sometimes it's just a statement and if I have nothing to add them "👍🏻". I like them and I'll keep using them. What really drives me nuts is commenting on a video and being ignored. I'd rather get a 👍🏻 than be ignored. I see your point about the tipping system that relies on the employee removing the tip. That's very true. Maybe it is the company that deserves the complaint. 🤔
I never heard about the emoji thing but this is a weird world today lol 😂 I loved the second piece the most! It just says it’s your art so much more to me 😅 congrats on reaching some goals ❤
An emoji by itself IS seen as rude-sort of perceived by many as a dismissive act of someone that cannot be bothered to write a thoughtful response to the original comment. The way I see it (since you asked😂) is that engagement from channel viewers is SO helpful to my channel, that if anyone takes the minute or two of their valuable time to share their feelings, thoughts or share a piece of themselves with me, I really value that-& I also make sure that at the least, I give them the same amount of time and attention in my response to their comment as that which they invested in me. Considering they ALSO invested their time in watching my video! They definitely don’t have any obligation to comment on my silly UA-cam videos so when they do, I believe it means a lot. I also truly respect my viewers and want them to know that☺️.
I get what you are saying and this is a good example. You made really good points, but they are statements I agree with. I do not have anything to add so I would normally respond by saying, "Great points. I appreciate you! 🙂". There's really nothing more for me to add. It's a true statement but some find it dismissive.
I ordered takeout from one of our local chinese resturants and I remember the owner got FURIOUS because I declined to give the driver a tip. I had to tell her, "You guys are supposed to be paying them, why do I need to pay any more than I already am?" and I just remember being really weirded out by that!
Did not know the thumbs up was a bad thing. I did know the poop one is not great but that’s kinda obvious. I like the landscapes, but prefer the second one. I think I like the colors better in the second one. And I’m glad you feel unburdened. Maybe our whole country should paint and rant for a bit. There sure is a lot of 👻 going on!
Seriously?? An emoji is now considered a blow off?? People really need to get over themselves. Do you know how many times I comment on videos from other art channels and never even get a thumbs up? Or I ask a simple question about the brand of the product they used because I’m interested and no reply is ever received? I think you go above and beyond the norm by acknowledging every comment, emoji or otherwise. Haters gonna hate. Petty people need to get bent… Happy Monday, Pete! 🙃
I agree. I don't understand why creators would not engage their audience but expect their audience to keep coming back to engage with their videos. Is almost like an undeserved self importance of the creator. I'm here to make some friends and build a community and I'm very glad you are a part of it. 🙂 Happy Monday!
I believe emojis are a short form of language and language changes. What was "once" a sincere symbol for "well done / great" now seems to be used in a sarcastic way. But with all those questions like how old is the sender or what language do they use or does the emoji mean something special in their culture I just refuse to take all that into account and use an emoji like I mean it. Applying "common sense" - if someone writes about the death of their beloved pet I won't use a rofl-emoji. For the rest I think one shouldn't always assume the worst in other people, not even while using the internet 🤣 The auto-tip would make me furious. I read somewhere that even on a self-checkout-station they had the "choice" of different tip-percentages and had to get the manager to select the somewhat hidden zero percent option. A while ago (where I live) you only tipped when really satisfied with the service. Nowadays you get a frown when you don't, but I still only tip when the service was at least good leaning to great. I won't reward waiting for service and being treated badly by giving extra money - as a colloquial saying goes "I may be stupid but I'm not THAT stupid!" 😀 Thanks for the video 🥰
I haven't heard about the emoji thing either. With regards to emojis though, I don't understand why people get so hung up on them and see their use as being rude or dismissive or whatever. What ever happened to the phrase 'a picture paints a thousand words'? Sometimes emojis convey much more than words can. Saying that me and the neurodivergent people in my group of friends find it so much easier to communicate with each other using emojis and memes at times than by trying to type stuff out. With regards to the tipping thing, not experienced it here on this side of the pond, but that has got to suck. I prefer the first of your two paintings in the video, it's nice to see works which feel looser with limited colour pallettes.
Thank you! I agree. If you can't say it with an emoji then it probably isn't worth saying. 😂 I have been trying to focus on more limited palettes recently which will soon show up more on the videos. At least similar families of colors so they aren't so loud. I enjoy the looks of them but usually I'm testing individual colors within a palette of other colors so I tend to use every color on my palette to see how they go together. I'm almost done with that for a little while so you should see more of the limited colors soon. Thanks! 🙂
You are very welcome 😊. I look forward to seeing your limited colour pallette works. Now there's a question: Have you ever participated in or considered participating in the Huevember art challenge?
I typically do not do challenges because I find it a little stifling. I need to create what I want how I want when I want or I don't feel satisfied. I participated in inktober once and about a week in I hated it. The same thing with world watercolor month and plein April. It's just not my thing, but I hope to naturally go in that direction as I work on it. 👍🏻
@@IllustrationsByPete Completely understandable, I used to do inktober and mermay quite regularly then stopped inktober because of the drama related to it and then with Mermay, one year I was accused of glorifying eating disorders with the paintings. So I decided I did not want to deal with people in the art community that intentionally go looking to start trouble.
Right! Some people love to find something to lecture others about. It's funny how people who think they are morally superior don't understand how to actually treat other people.
I think for me in my life, I assume everyone is kind and benevolent. Does this bite me in the ass sometimes? Definitely yes. However for my mental health, I prefer to think well of everyone with a few exceptions.
Hi Pete, your video is great once again. Regarding the first point, I don’t understand why people on the internet get offended when you respond with emojis. I think it could be an issue when it comes to personal relationships, like really close friendships. When longer texts are only answered with emojis, a lot of information can be lost, or maybe it comes across as a bit superficial. But for an internet relationship, like what’s happening here in the comments, I find it totally appropriate. It’s also the case that a comment helps the creator because it counts as engagement for the algorithm. So, you should actually be happy if you get even „just“ an emoji. Regarding the second point, automatically deducting tipps like that is just not okay. I also find it totally inappropriate, and it ruins the whole tipping system, which is meant to reward good service. It’s still a personal decision whether to give a tip or not. When it’s automatically deducted, it’s simply inappropriate. And third point: I really like both paintings and the one on the left a tiny bit more because it looks more dreamy and mysterious 🎉❤ Feel free to just answer with an emoji 😉🙃🫠
Thank you! I agree. I think it just gives people another reason to complain. 😂 I also agree that the tipping thing ruins the whole relationship of the customer and the person providing the service. 🙂

Walmart?! That's just crazy talk. Why would they think they should be tipped? 🤔

That's the least someone should do for their audience. Why would I expect you invest your time into me if I didn't do the same for you? 🙂

Yeah, forced tipping is sketchy and should be illegal. If you get crappy service, you are not obliged to tip.
I agree. That was very shady. I know some restaurants add a gratuity which is nothing more than a tip but it's usually for large parties.
