I always get a kick out of the comments that are judgemental about how you are painting, etc. We a re all a bit different in how we paint, draw or whatever. I do appreciate the comments that actually add something to my knowledge. Keep on being you. You have encouraged me to work with water brushes and get to know how to handle them. So. Many thanks to you!!😊

I’m so glad you reviewed this as I just insomnia purchase the 149 piece set to try oils for the first time and it comes with these watercolor paints too. They look like they’ll be great for a sketchbook and not worrying about being too precious with them.
I am so happy that the contest is open to all of North America. I am from Canada. I love the meeden paper. This company is great. Thank you for your great videos and reviews.
Wow this is great! I use Meeden paper and palettes all the time and they are good! Thanks, yes, I’d love to be entered in the contest. I need some flat brushes too, so I can learn how to use them. Thanks again Pete!
Don't learn with these. These dump too much water. It would be frustrating to learn with. Everything else is wonderful and more than makes up for it though. You're in. 👍🏻
I appreciate you for always speaking your mind. It's refreshing. I very much enjoy your videos, I always learn something useful from you. 😊 I would love to be added to the drawing for the whole Meeden set. It sounds very nice and the contents are fantastic. Wishing you a good day, every day!!
Oooo a landscape! The moment you applied paint to paper, your comment made perfect sense. It just dumped all its liquid. So maybe I never enjoyed watercolor because I didn’t have good brushes! Lovely soothing video.
Thank you Linda! I'm glad you enjoyed it. That could very well be the case. I struggled for a while in the beginning because of that. There are good cheap brushes but these are not them. 🙂
You're hilarious. Love your videos, they are always great. I would love to try the Meeden paper & paints. Thank you for including Canada in your contest. ❤ Thanks again for the great videos.
Awe, your new video made me realize I missed your old video! I love Meeden products. ❤️ Meeden watercolors where my first upgrade and I was thrilled with them. They remind me a lot of Da Vinci paints. They dry really well and re-wet easily. ❤
@IllustrationsByPete I think they will have a sale soon. They did last year around this time. It knocks off about $4 a tube... and they have the huge 37 ml tubes for watercolor. They have some lovely specialty colors like Perylene Maroon and Ultramarine Violet. ❤️
I had no idea. I need to look for that. You can use my code PETE10 for a 10% discount unless the sale is better, then just go with that. I need to go look now. 😂
Thank you for your honest review of Meeden watercolor. Yes please enter me in the giveaway. While they don’t move much, these watercolors seem curious enough to give a go as a beginner. The paper has had a lot of good reviews. 😂 Cow tipping - that’s a joke used here in OH too! 😂 Ever been snipe hunting? Thanks again for your generosity, take care!
You know what those brushes are really good for? Layering gouache. Just the right spring/softness, at least for my hand to not disturb the layer below. I bought a three pack of brushes that look the same at our local discounter Action here in the Netherlands and have been pleasantly surprised. Thank you for this review and your relaxing voice. Plus you made me laugh yesterday and I really needed it. 🙂.
Glad I could help you smile. 🙂 I need to try them all for gouache. The rounds were ok for it but I bet you're right about the rest of them too. Thanks for the suggestion. 👍🏻
Sad to hear the brushes suck. I have plenty of paint for now, but always love reviews when looking for recommendations for my students. Thanks so much for reviewing this new set!
Thank you for the Art Pigment link, very helpful. That Cerulean Blue definitely looks like a Cobalt Teal. Mine is much bluer than yours is. It's amazing how the colours change from brand to brand. Still wading through that. I totally agree with you on the pure pigment idea. I have some Kusakabe paints from Japan which are all mixes of pigments and some of them are the colours I use the most. Such beautiful combinations. I love Meeden's paper too. Looks like someone did some acid in the farmhouse, lol
I've been eyeing some of the Meeden palettes and supplies. Been inspired to get back into watercolors after a year long break. Would love to enter the giveaway!
I would love to be entered in the give away! And thanks for the review! I'm happy to have found your channel, now I have lots of videos to catch up on, lol.
Beautiful set Pete! That Orange yellow is very pretty, like a lighter spectrum Quin gold? I have always had good experience with Meeden supplies and those brushes are my favorite color! I have a beach vibe going in my house, so yeah, I like them! Please include me in the giveaway! Thanks Pete 🥰
They are very pretty brushes but they do not work very well. Someone suggested they were better for gouache. But either way, this set as a whole is an amazing deal. I'll get your name in the hat. 👍🏻
@ Thank you Pete! Well, that’s the thing about some synthetic brushes, it’s hit or miss. I do need some gouache brushes though. When I’ve used my WC brushes for it, kind of a lot more work cleaning them out.
I love the colourful design of Meeden’s packaging so much I sent them an email to say that whoever does their design is dong an excellent job! They were so sweet! I seriously love the packaging so much I sometimes struggle to get rid of it, hahah
I would love to be entered in the give away! And thanks for the review! I only own a Meeden travel brush set in the leather pouch. Can highly recommend them by the way, they are really good quality.
I’m so brainwashed I mean inspired 😂 I’m going to totally copy you and recreate this with my Meeden paints. This was my first watercolor set I learnt so much from it I just love them I use them in my sketch Book all the time
Awesome! You'll probably get a better result than I did. These paints are really not bad at all. I would recommend them if someone asked, oh wait I just did. 🙂
Please enter me! I have especially appreciated your comments about QoR watercolors because they are so expensive and flow in such an unusual way it has always been hard for me to decide if any would work with the way I paint.
I was just looking at that very set online just a few nights ago. I use some of the Meeden paper already and I love it. SO, please enter me in the giveaway, I would love to try their paint. I also use Baohong Paper and I see no difference in it and the Meeden. You should give it a try. I buy most of my paper through Temu, the prices are great and it’s how I got to using Meeden paper. Love the painting. So much talent. Thanks for the video.
I just started my watercolor journey a couple of months ago, so I am trying to learn as much as I can. Your channel has been very helpful! I would love to be entered in the giveaway!
We are in the middle of a blizzard here in Saskatchewan Canada. A new set of art materials would be a good way to cheer up. Please enter me in your draw! Love your videos!
Yes please enter me in the giveaway! I'm Canadian, glad this one is open to us. I do like Meeden products. I thought the paints were pretty good, but I'm a rank beginner at watercolour 😅
Wow!! That’s a nice starter set. Don’t include me in the drawing. Between my watercolor sets, my gouache sets and colored pencil sets, I’m good to go. I even have a bunch of different papers, mixing trays, brushes and palettes. Got my 72 set of Derwent Inktense blocks today and also got the Golden Maple brushes you reviewed. I’ve only used one of the brushes so far. They seem to be really nice.
@@IllustrationsByPete I’ve been trying the Inktense blocks on some 100 year old ledger paper. So far I would not suggest using them for that. I haven’t experimented much with them, but so far they are worse to use on that paper than watercolors. It creates lots of streaks that don’t look very nice. Of course the paper buckles like crazy too, even when you tape it down. I was hoping to get some really bright, vibrant colors to use on the ledger paper to contrast with its age. But the Inktense looks more muted when it dries. It’s strange because I’ve gotten some pretty bright colors using all 3 brands of watercolors I use. Colored pencils work reasonably well on the ledger paper also. I’m not sure about markers. Acrylic paint might be an issue, but I haven’t tested that since I don’t work in acrylic. I think they might have used a clay sizing on the paper. It was designed to be written on with fountain pens and dip pens. So I guess that would make sense. If you would like to try out some ledger paper, let me know and I’ll send you a some sheets of it. I rescued some tax ledger books from a dumpster. It was one of those construction dumpsters. So no food or other things like that were mixed in with them. They are as clean as 100+ year old ledger books can possibly be.
That's strange. I have some old ledger paper at work I'm sure I can try. Thank you for the offer though. I've never used it before. Here's what I've learned about inktense. You can use them wet into wet easier than straight up painting with them. I enjoy the streaking because it's where I find I can put my lines. Using the pencils is better if you want a bright pop of color in a very specific spot but the paper needs to be smooth enough to activate all of the color you put down or you'll leave marks underneath. The blocks work good to add on top of or underneath watercolor in very specific places. I think they are more specialized and less forgiving than watercolor. Never thought I'd say that about any product. But I do love them the way I use them. Now I'll need to figure out this paper. 👍🏻
@@IllustrationsByPete Thanks for the tips. I might reserve the Inktense blocks and pencils for work specifically on hot pressed watercolor paper. Though I’ll probably keep experimenting on the ledger paper to see if I can get something to work out. The things I’ve done with the Inktense pencils on watercolor paper have turned out really nice, but there has been a learning curve to them. So I’m not expecting the blocks to be very different.
Nooooooooo!!!! Pick the Phthalo Green Pete!!!! 😂😂😂😂 All your subscribers need to send you some phthalo green from every watercolor brand for your Christmas present. Come on people!! Let’s make this happen!! 😂😂😂😂

interesting that the brushes look like that - I have a set from last year and recently bought another one, and it looked very slightly different, both in terms of the actual brushes and the packaging, so I am quite surprised that your set looks like the one I bought last year!
@IllustrationsByPete they do, but these were the same exact set, but the packaging was more compact, and there were ever so slight differences in the brushes (the blue was slightly warmer, the ferrule metal was slightly different). I bought them directly from Meeden so they were genuine, too. They were half the price of the other set as I got them on a sale, though. But they are the watercolour brush set. Same amount of brushes, same look, but the packaging was more compact and there were tiny differences

Hi Pete, please could you drop my name into your giveaway hat as it's not often you're able to include us folk on the other side of the pond. I've heard a lot of good things about Meeden's stuff. Out of curiosity, why do you dislike phthalo green so much? Is it just because of the staining or is there more to the story?
I will add you in. 🙂 Yes, because of the staining. It stains brushes, palettes, paper, clothes (I spill), ruins your water pot and gets in other colors. I hate it, but it is a beautiful color. I like viridian more anyway.
@@IllustrationsByPete Thank you 😊 That's fair, it is a ridiculously tenacious pigment. Never managed to stain any clothes with it, just the skin of my hands along with my fingernails.

Yes, because of the staining. It stains brushes, palettes, paper, clothes (I spill), ruins your water pot and gets in other colors. I hate it, but it is a beautiful color. I like viridian more anyway.
@@IllustrationsByPete Thank you 😊
That's fair, it is a ridiculously tenacious pigment. Never managed to stain any clothes with it, just the skin of my hands along with my fingernails.
Looks like a great kit. Please enter my name, thanks!
