  • In this video I'll customize a guitar pedal with paint markers. I love paint markers but I never grab them when I think of creating art. Today that changes.

    I've got a ton of markers and hardly ever use them, but I get them out and let my granddaughter go to town with them. We do a lot of fun stuff.
    I watched until the end. 😮😂

    I've been painting with those markers all summer long! I got a set of smooth rocks and my Son and I leave the finished rocks all over the neighborhood. We don't let anyone know it's us but we've seen 2 rocks in separate gardens in front of the apt and it makes us smile. Just like you do when you post, ramble and talk about art. It is an absolute pleasure.

    Actually, I’ll go you one farther-your ‘there are no rules in art (sort of…)’ is actually a life lesson for a creator in *any* line. For instance, I love creating Renaissance garb (The Arbor Consort is our madrigal grouip), but actually sewing the pieces together isn’t the fun part. The fun part is adding beaded embroidery, applique, piping, and other trim by hand! So I guess I don’t just “make” garb, I create the magic for display on our persons. It is soooo fun to draw outside the lines! I enjoyed listening to your ramble!!

    Hey Pete! I love that you have other hobbies too! I have several myself! I stick to my view point tho, that art has no rules, only rules we want to make up. People can disagree with me if they want to. I am not saying that fundamental principles aren’t adhered to for a masterpiece or the artist you’re trying to emulate may have made their own rules or followed someone else’s rules. I’m saying we put rules on ourselves, but you can make art with no rules. Not all art is a masterpiece and I don’t think there has to be a why, other than it felt good to do. Yes, feeling is a huge part of art and there’s also no rules on those. I think Pete and I think alike on this subject! Thx Pete ❤

      I have more hobbies than I have time. I picked this one up this year. Absolutely, you can make art for no other reason than it feels good. I always say when you have that creative bug, it builds up inside you and you can't help but create something. It's like a pressure valve. I appreciate you! 🙂

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  17 днів тому

      You can give water mixable oils a try. I use them on occasion. They clean up with water instead of using harsh solvents and once the water evaporates from the paint they are normal oils. Very interesting. 👍🏻

    I'm not a marker person- the scratchy sound drives me crazy. But I do watch your videos. You always make something interesting to look at. Could never use these markers. Had some kind of weird sensory overload from the colors and the small pattern on them. When the camera showed the pile at the top of the screen I had to look away. Probably a left over from my hippie days.

    I am currently obsessed with acrylic markers. I have been thinking of painting an overdrive pedal I built. That was a nice looking pedal. How does it sound?

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  12 днів тому

      Thank you! It's like a boost fuzz pedal. The quirk knob is interesting. Turning to the right gets brighter but also adds some drive. Turning to the left makes it smoother but also cuts some of the gain. That's strange because it's a transistor circuit and usually more bass adds more gain. This one works in reverse. I'm not sure where you are on building pedals but I'm fairly new to designing them. It's a blast. Go for it. If you end up painting it, I'd love to see what you create. Email is listed in the description. 👍🏻

    @sunnycharacter 17 днів тому

    So, I have that same set of paint markers you have. They work great! Although I don’t reach for them much, I like having them for certain art projects. In regards to Posca, I don’t feel the need to have them instead. For one simple reason, for me. They look fat and unwieldy, too fat for a marker for me. I don’t know if they have any skinnier versions for those of us requiring that, but I think Posca would do themselves a favor by having a skinnier offering. Surely I’m not alone in this?

    • @IllustrationsByPete

      Their extra fine tips are thinner. More like sharpie size. Those are the ones I use the most. Paint pens are fun all around. 🙂

    If you're not supposed to use white or black in watercolor then why does every set come with a white and a black? And why do I own like FIFTEEN different Daniel Smith blacks (he does the coolest blacks!)? And why do many famous watercolorists actually use white and black? I know why, because just watering down your red DOESN'T MAKE IT A PASTEL PINK! 🤣🤣

    Rembrandt copied Caravagio. The light dark extreme was Caravaggio thing. Rembrandt was such a little copycat he even put a d in his name to copy / pay tribute to Caravaggio. Which was real nice of him. Although his name sounds the same with or without the d; the d inserted changed its meaning. To the technique he admired so much. He was a much more fluid painter though. The times they were a-changing. Allowing Rembrandt to be more loose in his technique.

    Their shouldn't be so many rules in art. Painting is putting down color on a substrate, it's really that simple. If you paint a tree, you aren't painting a tree, you are adding color to the limbs, to the trunk, to the leaves, the fruits if it's a fruit bearing tree, etc... No need to be so rigid in art, unless you are a master, then I understand the necessity for all the rules since so many people will be judging your art. For us regular people who enjoy creating art, it's all about creating our own works of art, creating our own rules, no need to explain why we did this or that but society in general has become this way. We always need to explain everything we do, as if we are kids, pffff! Unless you are baking food, you need to follow the recipe. Unless you are working in a lab, you need to measure to make sure you don't blow up a building somewhere because you are a rebel and refuse to follow rules, I say, get your paints or whatever you chose to create with that day and HAVE FUN! Have people forgotten how to have fun nowadays! I always love watching or listening to your videos.

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  17 днів тому +1

      Thank you! I agree. If you aren't having fun, you're doing it wrong. That's the only rule I have for myself. 🙂

    In life you don't have to follow the rules, but if you don't the likelihood that you'll not make it increases exponentially.

      I do not necessarily agree with that “THIS IS THE CORRECT WAY” is nonsense. Someone along the way MADE UP that rule…so, you must do art the way you want….I just don’t believe there are rules in art. Do what makes you happy…. That’s what is so GREAT about ART…..forget the art rules…..enjoy doing the art.
