Beanys fishing
United Kingdom
Приєднався 4 сер 2016
Small boat commercial fishing. I have been fishing in small commercial beach boats since I was 8 years old, my father does it, his father, and many generations before hand. Im the owner of a small beach launched vessel on the Norfolk coast. In the autumn and winter we mainly fish with drift nets for herring. Around xmas we also fish for sprats too. In the summer we catch thornback rays, bass, mackerel, mullet, sea trout, smooth hounds, dog fish, brown shrimps, brown crabs, lobsters and a few other bits and pieces using drift nets, tangle nets, longlines, jigging machines, pots and a shrimp trawl. Mostly traditional techniques that have been used for centuries, these are unfortunately dying out with the modernisation of the fishing industry, and the changes in peoples habits of eating certain species of fish.
Im also an apprentice served electrical and mechanical engineer for over 25 years, so complete all of the maintenance on my boat and tractor myself.

Cooking smooth hound goujons or fish fingers in the air fryer. Tasty fish caught beach sea fishing.
Well after the video I put up a few days ago of skinning and filleting smooth hound, I decided I better cook it as well. Smooth hound makes perfect chunky fish fingers, that are really moist inside, but crunchy on the outside. They are best cooked in the air fryer, for 5 min each side, as it gives them a really crunchy outside. They are one of the best fish fingers going, as there is some flavour, which holds up to the various sauces put on them, but not too strong, so kids will still love them, and there is no bones to worry about!

How to dress brown crab & my heavy duty claw cracker. Seafood cook and eat. Boat Sea fishing
Переглядів 1 тис.4 години тому
Well I thought as I was dressing a crab for my tea, I would video it and show everybody how it can be done. Its very simple, and I have done it slowly, so you can see exactly what has to be done to dress a crab. Everyone who dresses crabs does it slightly differently, but I have removed all the not nice parts and covered all issues.
How to skin and fillet smooth hound for whole fillets and goujons. Cook fresh fish Sea fishing.
Переглядів 7 тис.9 годин тому
Well several people have asked me for a video of how I skin and prepare smooth hound for cooking. Whether you want chunky goujons or a nice thick fish fillet the choice is yours. Its great for all ages due to only one bone, that is easily removed. A really cheap fish that has been sold in chip shops for years under rock salmon, and rock eel.
Hauling a few crab and lobster pots. Poor weather and following seas. Beach boat sea fishing
Переглядів 1,3 тис.12 годин тому
Well we went out to haul the crab pots, then the lobster pots. We got on the end of the crab pots, and the wind was pushing us beam on to the trough, and with the hydraulics pulling the boat over more, we decided the weather was too poor to haul them. We then ran to the south to check on some more pots, got a couple of undersize lobsters and a few crab. They were rebaited and shot away. As we s...
Another try after the hounds. A struggle, but a few fish. Beach sea fishing

Well I decided to fish the last 3 hours of the ebb, and maybe the start of the flood. Surprisingly the weed didnt come on the flood, the wind dropped and it was a superb night. We ended up fishing the flood until 11pm, but not with many fish, they were very hard won
The start at the flood at Scratby, a disastrous weed fest. Beach sea fishing.
Переглядів 46614 годин тому
Well as it was raining all day, I decided to fish the start of the flood in the evening and into darkness. Well the first of the flood way full of mayweed as expected, but the middle of the flood just usual red weed, pulling the gear around in a few minutes!
Seals, Hounds, hermits, dogs and a dab. Norfolk beach sea fishing. May weed madness.
Переглядів 99321 годину тому
Well I decided to get the middle of the ebb tide today, hoping to get a few more smooth hounds on the beach. Well it was all going well until the tide eased and the may weed went mad. I had to stop and clean the line 10-15 times each time I reeled in. It was hard work, so I ended up packing up before low water. Thinking about it now, I should have gone in the boat fishing!
A quick session after smooth hounds in the fog. Beach sea fishing using crabs & squid for bait.
Переглядів 1,2 тис.День тому
Well I went to look at the sea, to see if it was good enouigh for going in the boat, but a fog had rolled in off the sea. I then decided on a last minute beach session trying for hounds. I got down the beach with around 1.5 hours until low water. I had a few hermit crabs, squid and herring for bait.
Splicing 3 strand polysteel rope for the bow of the boat, and an elasticated hook. Sea fishing beach
Переглядів 93214 днів тому
Well Ive replaced the rope in the bow of the boat as it parted last trip. Ive used 20mm polysteel, which is very strong and abrasion resistant. I have also made an elasticated hook to hold it in place when Im using the boat.
First trip crab potting in my boat. Tangled pots, bit of a disaster. Beach boat sea fishing
Переглядів 2,4 тис.14 днів тому
Well the first trip hauling was a bit of a disaster. The buoys and anchors had came together, so the pots were badly tangled. We untangled most of the ropes and managed to shoot 5 of the 7 pots back over the side. There was also barely any crab in them. I then went to haul the lobster pots, and there was only 3 undersized lobsters, so they went back. Im glad I went with my old chap this time, a...

Well Beany, seeing the thumbnail on my recommended, I thought it was one of my cookery channels. Awesome stuff fella
Beany get your arse into the works canteen and show the so called chefs how to cook a meal out of fresh fish will ya
hahahaha Im an engineer, not a miracle worker!
Another fantastic video Beany hope the food tasted as good as it looked
Cheers, yes, they were great
A lot better than eating Frankenstein chicken from the supermarket
Cor yeah, full of water and chemicals
Always ate rig as a kid and still do,we call em smellys down here coz of the odd smell they have, think bull Huss is the best flavour but a big one takes some eating,
I prefer spur dog out of them all. The meat is whiter and not so strong flavour
"Stick the tip in and tease it gently." Tee hee.
Hounds, big Dogfish and Bull Huss were winter staples for me as a kid in Brighton, but in those days there were 5 fishmonger, open six days a week, in the local open market. Slow cooked on a BBQ is good. Needs one of those celeb chiefs to popularise it! Great vid Cheers mate
Cheers. People have changed their diet, if it isnt tuna, salmon, cod, haddock or prawns, most wont eat it!
Very good recipe Boi well done 😋😋
cheers
WOOOOOOOW👍Incredible Job!🙂Stay blessed!👍Keep it up!🙂🙂👍God bless you abundantly forever 🙂🙂Enjoy amazingly blessed weekend 🙂🙂Stay happy and well protected. 🙂🙂
when i was a nipper my nan used to buy rock salmon from the fishmongers in north shields and i always enjoyed it now i actually know what fish it was cheers bud
Thanks, it used to be really popular
That looked real tasty, I don't know if I'll ever be able to go fishing again to catch one. Op on my back was not as successful as I had hoped. Might have to go back and have the nerves burnt out.
Thats a bugger, my back isnt too clicky, but doesnt sound a patch on yours. Hopefully they can sort it
Great stuff! I want to try this!. Thanks for the video.
You should mate, it’s simple but lovely
very nice matey👍👍👍
Thanks mate
looks a beauty! should be a staple on the nhs and schools
Hahaha well it’s cheap enough. I think most people would like it
Beany since you had your operation your gift of knowledge has inspired the world of UA-camrs from fishing techniques to how to cook the catch using standard family recipes. From a awful thing that you encountered this has brought out all this wealth of knowledge that possibly we would have never seen , good on you mate keep it up along side of the fishing vidios when you get back to sea 100% , i hope like many others you keep these type of vidios going when your back doing the fishing vids . TOP MAN
Thanks mate, glad you have found them helpful, and hopefully have learnt something. I’ve started going off in the boat again. Can’t wait to go again
Sorry to hear that hope it went well
Yeah Im back to work, driving and fishing again
Great information thanks
Cheers
I'm going to California cliffs for a few days so hoping to get some fishing done on casiter
Yes, caister is deeper at the beach than Cali
Nice one Beany! Saw your link on WSF. Never tried Rock Salmon or Eel, never seen it in the chippys here. Take care matey.
cheers, its fell outer of favour in recent years, when the original spur dog fishery was shut down
I found out that fresh cooked crab is easier to shell than cooked and kept in the fridge, I used to dive for crabs and lobster in the UK in the 1980s I could pick the bigger shell fish, I only took a few for myself, usually in very remote parts in the North of UK. I prefer Scallop / Queenies and Crab in that order. Th biggest crab I took needed two hands to pick up.
Yes, it does pick easier. All the big crabs here are sloppy inside, they dont grow huge like the north and south crabs, thats why our size limit is smaller
@@beanysfishing2555 A few occasions the crab I was dressing was due to change its shell so the quality and volume was poor for a large crab. Lobsters are inquisitive; On a diving trip to Saltburn-by-the-sea in the uk there were some reefs and my buddy was a head of me in the valleys and I swam over the top as a short cut and the Lobsters had come out to see who was swimming in the reef valleys below them and all I had to do was swim behind them and pick a few up, much easier than using a hook.
@@jdhtyler haha I bet, sounds the easiest method to catch them!
Excellent video mate, would love to see you do the lobster. Hope you catch a few soon.
I hope I get a few soon
Great video beany , I’m going to give that a go. Can you do one for lobster to show Bobby bob nuts how it’s done properly 🤣
hahaha Im sure Bobby Bob nuts knows how to dress a lobster!
Fantastic video, very clear instructions. Will be using your method from now on.
Cheers, Im glad it helped
Exceptionally good video. I agree with other comments it would make a really good training video. On the other side you can see why dressed crabs are so expensive, with all the work what goes into dressing a crab. Thank you.
Glad you liked watching it mate
I caught 3 spiders in a drop net the other day, they were about the size of my hand. Is it worth using the legs and is there any body meat?
I’ve never dressed a spider crab. I believe most of the meat is in the legs, and under the main shell is quite intricate to pick, but can be done
I was 10y in 1972 (my aqualung was a Whitbread CO2 cylinder converted to a diving tank 1000 psi working pressure, it floated.) and caught a big Spider Crab in Ladram bay UK, we looked at it and decided that the caravan cooker was not big enough so I put it back in the sea, it was only out of the sea for an hour..
@@jdhtyler hahahaah sounds fun. Crabs live for days out of the water if kept cool and damp
wow Beany im learning so much from your videos i do love your homemade tools well done matey👍👍👍
Cheers, it’s the perks of being an engineer and fisherman

A lovely job learned a lot thanks for the video
Cheers, I’m glad it helped
Brilliant, sadly I'd eat it before I finished lol
Hahah it is tempting! Once you have dressed plenty, you get sick of them
Lovely ol job
Thanks mate
You're making my mouth water and it's only breakfast time lol. Great video on how to do it right.
Cheers. I do like a nice crab
Excellent video
Thank you
Thanks for another great video. Thats a crab masterclass. Now I fancy a crab for breakfast lol. I tried fishing with one of them crab snares off the beach before but it never caught me a crab. Worth a go though.
Cheers. It depends on the area and bottom for crab
If I was still in the chef game I'd be using this as a training video. You'd make a great teacher.
Hahahah cheers. I see a lot of funny crab dressing videos
Another great video on how to dress a crab Boi 👍
Thanks mate
Another very informative video! Thank you! Yum! Yum! Out of interest how long do you boil a crab the size of the one you dressed in this video? Cheers!
I boil them for 15 mins. If you cook them too long, the meat goes hard and dry in the end of the claws
Lovely fish rock salmon 😊
Yes, I don’t mind it
Great video, I love it at the chippy
Not so many people eat it now
Great job Sir 👍
Thanks mate
Cheers beany fantastic all I got to do now is catch a smoothie 😂😂😂great video matey 👍👍👍

Hi Beany. Another great video well done mate, (Might be better with the camera in front of you) if possible. Is there much difference between Smooth hound, Bullhuss and dogfish in preparation and taste?
They are all very much the same in prep and taste really.
You’ve probably eaten one in a chip shop. Sold as rock eel even if smoothhound or dogfish mate. 100% I owned a chip shop and sometimes skin was left on
any hound/dog, would be rock salmon in our chippy
