Great Q&A! Always enjoyed your videos, as you have always explained things in a very easy to understand way. I learned much more from you than from all the orthopedic doctors and physical therapists I saw. Definitely love the anatomical explanation, which deepens the understanding and illustrates how the body parts work, so please keep that coming! Thank you for sharing your expertise with us!

I will be trying your advice from the shoulder video. I have had trouble over the last 15 years with my shoulder. It was very educational having the anatomical explanations. I started with a frozen shoulder when I was 50. Therapy finally broke it free and it was okay for a time. Went back to the Orthopedic center with pain and loss of motion. Suggestion after imagery was that I needed a shoulder replacement because of arthritis closing the spaces between the bones, partial tears in the supraspinatus. Instead I opted for corticosteroid injections which relieved some of the pain. I am a diabetic so they weren't great for me and ceased them. Still dealing with bad pain, couldn't lie down, couldn't lift anything, and dealing with my husband with Stage 4 colon cancer. After he died, I went back to the clinic, talked again with surgeon and also with a doctor who did prp with a stem cell treatment. He showed me the difference on x-ray between a healthy shoulder and mine (no spaces to speak of) Opted for that before surgery and it took about 3-4 weeks for pain to subside to bearable and 6-9 months before there was no pain and increased range of motion from

Hi Suzanne, I'm afraid the answer is that it depends on what's best for you. There is no right or wrong answer here. It really depends on what the reason for your pain is. You have to try everything and just stick to what works. Hopefully you are also doing things to help yourself get your shoudler problem better too. Best wishes, Ashley

I have been diagnosed with impinged tendons in both shoulders. It started when I picked up a tree branch about 5 years ago with my strong left hand. I was told my right side would follow with this pain and it has. I'm 65.
Both shoulders are a constant level 5 or so in any position or resting. I have recovered full motion with both arms with no stiffness flexed front or behind me.
My provider will pay for acupuncture when the lock down is done, and I'm looking forward to that to. My pain has been around for years, and I love and miss power yoga. Somethings got to work!
I really liked your use of free weights because don't have the discipline with the elastic bands and I don't have a weight machine. I have been looking for someone to show me this. Please post more using free weights.

Great video. I've had a shoulder problem for about 8yrs. Had a cortisone injection about 5wks ago. This has made an improvement. However, i still have a very poor range of movement with pain at a higher range of shoulder movement. I am doing strengthen exercises religiously and they do give short term relief(few hours) but i was expecting a lot more improvement after a solid 5wks. Also i have read a book by John Kirsch advocating passive hanging that claims to cure 99% of shoulder problems. I can get into the hang position for about 30 secs but to return my arm to my side between 130° to 70° its really bad pain...about an 8 in a scale to 10. Just would like your thoughts especially about the passive hanging treatment. Thanks Jason

    • @PrecisionWellbeing
      @PrecisionWellbeing  4 роки тому

Hi Jason, you have to remember that you've had your problem for about 8 years so don't expect it to be fixed after only 5 weeks. Hanging is potentially helpful but you also have to consider whether there is ligament/tendon inflammation or laxity. if there is then you don't want to over stretch them because they may get more inflamed or overly loose. Have you watched my other shoulder videos (ua-cam.com/video/B4UYaumLy90/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/1U_ctTDiflU/v-deo.html). Hopefully they will help guide you to a full recovery. Just be consistent and stick with it for at least 6 months. Best wishes, Ashley

@@PrecisionWellbeing Hi Ashley. Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes i have watched all your shoulder videos along with many others i have watched over the last 3 to 5yrs. TBH my shoulder condition has lasted as long as it has through my own reluctance to follow up with my GP. I have only chased the problem up due to the pain affecting my sleep as it was rarely affecting my working abilities. Have been concentrating on rotator cuff strengthening as i feel that due to my shoulder pain i have been avoiding using my shoulder in any ROM that created that pain so i believe there is going to be a dramatic weakness due to lack of use in the ROM area. That has improved after the steroid injection which has allowed me to use some resistance exercises. I read the passive hanging book last Oct on hols. Its seems to make sense but wanted your expert opinion on it as my GP did nt comment on it. ( i know its not his field) The book did explain there is pain whilst hanging but empasised it does not harm any shoulder structures🤷‍♂️ Will work hard also on the stretches in your videos. Regards Jason

Precision Wellbeing Group can you answer questions about adhesive encapsulates and calcific tendinitis in the left shoulder? I have both and sever pain that radiates down my arm and into my left side of my back where the wing shoulder bone is. It also goes up my neck and into my color bone. I have constant aching deep pain . When I use my left arm it can be so painful I can’t move it for days. I have calcium on my bursa and in my rotator cuff that has now hardened. This has been going on for over 10 years and got worse to the point of using my arm is too painful. I’ve told doctors since my late 20’s and they dismissed it until a few years ago and finally did an MRI which sows a frozen shoulder and calcific tendinitis. It’s never been explained to me. I receive injections to relieve pain and give me some more mobility but pain always comes back. The pain doctor doesn’t want to give me anymore injections bc he’s frustrated the pain keeps coming back. Can you explain these conditions and what to do?

Ok, from the time of my surgery,(ball snapped of of humerus, at time of break over extended humerus), Accident was nov. 27, 2019, surgery was Dec 4. Arm was locked down, no movement at all. Therapy started 1 month later. Movement is only at about 35%. Humerus isn’t rotating at all.(date today is 6/19/20). Surgeon put on plate that covers part of outer ball, and down about 3” of Humerus). Never did any MRI of shoulder. It’s not getting better if anything it’s getting worse. Of course the break is healed now, but...... Went in this last week, and receiver cortisone shot! Working with it everyday, not making any difference, it’s painful in my shoulder, and across the top, and over the ball. And was wondering if I should have my GP order an MRI. I really don’t need to do any more damage to my arm. I watched your other video, I can’t even put my arm straight behind my back, let alone bent. Can’t bring arm up in front of me straight in front of me. Out to the side, not even straight out. Does an MRI show your muscles, and such? I’m upset no one seems to think there’s a problem! Please respond. Thank you.

I’ve learned a lot from your videos, and appreciate the anatomical lessons so I can understand where to press and where to back off. I always wonder with massage balls if what “hurts so good” is actually irritating/inflaming the muscles causing tendinitis or helping to break things down and evening out front and back

Hi Elisa thank you, I'm pleased you have learned a lot. I know what you mean, the massage balls hurt but it feels good! My advice is that you don't roll around on the ball and just stay still and press. This way you won't inflame the area too much. I would also suggest you use the ball every other day so that your muscles get a day to recover. I hope that helps. Best wishes, Ashley

Amazing stuff! I commend you so much for giving all this information away for free. Thank you so much
I seem to keep jumping in and out of that phase 2 you speak of, where I'll do an intense shoulder workout and sometimes (not always) there'll a dull pain (maybe a 4 out of 10) and slight lessening of range of motion for a few days after. It doesn't necessarily always happen but I assume it's some form of tendonitis from pushing it too hard with something like bodyweight pikes. It seems to go away in 3 or 4 days though.
Until I do a really intense workout and I notice it comes back
Seems like tendonitis by what you've been describing but the fact that it goes away so quickly has me second-guessing. Any ideas? The pain usually kicks in between 45 and 60 degrees of the painful arch when I raise my left arm from the side of my body.
Thank again for your help and taking the time to read this comment!

I have had successful reverse shoulder replacement surgery August 2018 right side which corrected right shoulder replacement carried out with a prosthesis that was too large by another surgeon, 18 months prior, leaving me in much discomfort. I now have good flexion and have been able to resume ballet classes. However, I cannot reach behind now on the right side. I believe this is because I no longer have rotator cuff on the right side. Due to Covid 19 regulations, my final, discharge appointment with my surgeon didn't happen. Would I be able to do the ball and band exercises you recommend on the right side in my situation?

Hi, great video. so i got shoulder injury probably tendon related bursitis from shoulder pressing too heavy with dumbells. Felt the pain when coming down, but the pain is mild, and dull. This will take 6 months to a year to heal roughly? I thought swelling goes away in like 1 month or so. I did all your tests, and my ranges of motion are all fine, and pain is like a 1-3, but i still can't lift without pain. Rowing exercises when i lower weight hurt, pullups can hurt sometimes to an extent, pushups, and overhead presses. The pain is at the top of my shoulder, and to the front. My external rotators are also strong

I have what my doctor is calling night pain. Although I'd rather not I can tolerate some pain but its the sleep deprivation that's killing me. An ultra sound person told me there was a tear ( can't say where exactly ) and the top part of my shoulder blade muscle is hard. ( Apparently repairing tears surgically has mixed results and is best done as soon as possible after the event.) I dig into that top muscle with my fingers and can really feel the fibres like violin strings. Think I need some stretching. Have developed some clicks in my neck vertebrae that weren't there before too.
It happened years ago, was using a skillsaw with my right arm extended cutting a sheet of ply and supporting the edge with the other hand. I was over extended, ( bad work practice ) the blade grabbed in the wood and wrenched my arm.
Anything in particular you would recommend from what I've said doc ?

Hello, I broke my humerus in September of last year and thank God it completely healed. The video where you show the shoulder, is what I needed.
I cannot lift my right arm next to my head and when I try it is super tight😩 I do not know what or how to get it loosend up🤷‍♀️I was going to therapy every week until this covid 19 happened and we had to stop going and I have no exercise equipment whatsoever. What can I do to help the inflammation and tightness of my shoulder, desperately looking for relief and to be able to have full mobility of my right arm shoulder again. Thank you for your very well description videos. Hope you are safe and well.

I was shoveling my granddads driveway in Jan, and hurt my shoulder when flinging the snow... this hurt badly for months. I had range of motion, but no strength and lifting above my chest hurt... this continued until 2 days ago when I was working on my bicycle, to don’t know what I did, but I woke up today and my shoulder has zero pain and what I think is a return to full strength. Was something dislocated and snapped back into the right spot? What the gel changed?

I've had some shoulder soreness come and go throughout my life, but recently I've been having pain in both shoulders and in the same location: top of shoulder and made worse by stretching neck in opposite direction. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I am facing this pain since the covid-19 has started. It is uncomfortable sleeping on right side and especially if I put on coat and put left first and right arm second. It is painful like labour pain and goes off slowly like the labour pain goes off slowly. I did not consult GP due to the procedures now a days surgery is taking place. Lifting things is OK but stretching is painful and sometime I feel pain going down in elbow and further down to the palm of hand. At this stage I mostly give rest to my arm but problem that it is my right shoulder. I do have pain when stretching up or back as well. I hope you understand my problem. My husband has same problem with his left shoulder. please advise what to do?
    Kind regards

Hi Patsy, thank you for your comment. Did you ever go and get yourself checked out? Have you had any X-Rays? There could be many reasons for your pain so you should really get it looked at by a professional. There is probably some ligament damage somewhere and this will take many months to improve. I hope that helps. Best wishes, Ashley

To what intensity should I stretch my hand with the elastic rope. At the limit of the tolerability of the pain? Or until I feel no pain in my shoulder?

Don't push the stretches too much into pain. Stop just before you feel pain. Best wishes, Ashley

I don't know any specific books. It depends on what you want to know more about... anatomy, diagnosis, testing etc. I would suggest maybe starting with something like "the anatomy of sports injuries". I hope that helps. Best wishes, Ashley

I have chronic shoulder pain that radiates to my arm which is very painful. Is this related to tendinitis or bursitis? I do also have calcination on my tendons so I am unsure of the actual origin of my pain I am wondering if steroid injections would help?

Excellent and informative. You explain the functioning, injuries and rehabilitation stretches so well. Will you address lower back pain: piriformis, sacrum, psoas and iliacus interactions in back pain? I do a bodybuilding routine and have chronic problems in those areas (and no, I don't do squats).
