In fact, in China, especially in big cities like Shanghai, many young people prefer to shop online. Because logistics and express delivery are very developed in China. You can only see very few young people shopping in supermarkets, while the majority are elderly people who enjoy using coupons. Unfortunately, you can't experience online shopping or Alipay in Shanghai, which is why China is more convenient now.

In fact, only elderly people nowadays prefer to buy groceries face-to-face, but compared to supermarkets, they are more willing to go to traditional vegetable markets distributed in cities. Young people tend to order takeout, while middle-aged people need to cook for themselves. They like to buy groceries through mobile apps (Meituan) and deliver them directly to their homes. Therefore, Chinese supermarkets tend to choose to build amusement parks to attract customers, and there are more snacks available. Almost no one buys clothes in the mall, and major brand clothing is purchased through apps.

It's fascinating to read insights like this. China is so technologically ahead than any other country you can think of, so i imagine their daily habit is also geared to anything that makes life more convenient, aka online-centric. I myself have multiple parcels arriving almost every day, and yes, most are from China, so sometimes i wonder what would their shopping be like since the convenient factor is multiplied for them to shop online. I don't even have appetite for retail shopping anymore despite formerly being somewhat a shopaholic, and the only times i do is when i view anything livestreamed (so, back to online it is, lol!).

Had a great time watching your video! As a Chinese, it was eye-opening as well since I rarely visited a supermarket like you guys. I would like to point out some mistakes or offer some translations, hoping it can help with the understanding for the interested:
8:26 Those chips are respectively sea salt (yellow) and nori (blue) flavour.
8:54 The tag says buy 2 bags, you get a 5 yuan discount.
10:48 It's made of soybean (green package).
11:38 It's actually duck wings (similar hehe).
14:07 The tag says salted meat with skin, but it doesn’t specify which meat it is.
    14:44 It's actually pork ^_^
15:34 It is indeed a mushroom called snow fungus or snow ear (names found on wikipedia).
15:42 It's vermicelli which is made of sweet potatoes.
    17:19 It is indeed pomelo.
19:16 It's a very popular Chinese snack called latiao (googleable) which means spicy bars.
22:01 Funny thing, because China has its own shoe size system, but I would say no one uses it. Instead, everyone uses the European system, hence the "EU 42/43".

Due to the shift of all shopping environments in China to the internet, traditional supermarkets have declined, and many supermarkets and malls have started to integrate comprehensive leisure. these overseas big chain groceries are not popular in china anymore, i remember that 25 years ago when Carrefour and METRO AG from france and Germany just entered china in 1998 , they were so popular , i almost did all my shopping in these groceries including even some of my clothing , they were always packed, i even remembered a french guy was helping refill the shelf there because it was too busy, they say he was the manager of the store, then around 5 years ago, I heard Carrefour were all closed in my city, and METOR AG quit my city more than 15 years ago .

There are some Chinese products that are of good quality and expensive, and there are also cheap and poor quality products. In the United States, I see a lot of low-quality products because importers choose cheap and low-quality products in order to sell out all their products quickly. This does not mean that the goods produced in China are poor.

This video reminded me of when I was studying for my MBA degree. So much focus was on China! In our studies, we had to learn about Walmart in China. We learned about how the Chinese didn't like Walmart's approach and how they wanted live frogs and turtles. Then, I had to learn about how American farmers were selling animals to China...for instance Louisiana and Florida farmers were raising turtles to sell to China. Ironically, around this time, the @MyFWCVideos confiscated all of the softshell turtles being raised by one farmer. The case went to court and the farmer found to be 100% legal and licensed. When he went to get his inventory, he was originally told they released the turtles only to find out they improperly stored them and all the turtles died by the hand of the very government agency meant to protect them. Later, the courts told the man he could not seek legal repayment for his lost inventory. Now the FWC has a order in place banning the possession, sale, and harvesting of any turtle...effectively stopping all turtle farming in the State of Florida...causing billions of dollars in loss. Later, after I was about to get my degree, I had to take a final class letting me know all of the American universities were operating overseas, American students were barred from getting an education in these schools, the cost was a 10th of what I was paying, the international corporations like Lay's were paying for their overseas employees (on an executive trek) to get their degrees in these schools, and that my American MBA was pretty much now useless.

Those single serving snacks actually look like it could be side dish ingredients for when you make instant noodles or just cook some plain rice at home, or if you're making instant noodles or just pack some plain rice with you on the go, and need some food ingredients to eat with it, so that you're not just eating noodles or rice with nothing in it. In Singapore, you can find some of these kinds of single serving foods in convenience stores like 7-Eleven, so you can make some instant cup noodles or bowl noodles, and maybe add an egg or a piece of chicken into it to complete your meal. So it's not snacks or confectionaries like chocolates, candy or cookies, but rather savoury side dishes.

Why is China's Wal-Mart supermarket so special, because we usually buy food, vegetables or meat, usually in the local market, Because the food there will be relatively fresh, and relatively cheaper than the supermarket, Wal-Mart inside the things are still expensive, There are also many supermarkets in Shanghai. Although you see a lot of people in Wal-Mart, most people still don't go there to buy things. And I mean the entire body. That includes their eyes, beak and feet. And their feathers are so pretty. They are black, but they do have like an oil spill look to them. So when the sun shines on them you can see like hints of green and blue. It's so cool looking. I know because a friend has a few that we incubated for him.

    油盐酱醋在楼下小超市买,其他的东西在网上买。我都不记得有多久没去过沃尔玛超市了,也许有十年了或者更久。

As I remembered, Walmart has been in China for at least 12 years ago, but nowadays it just became not that popular.

If you haven't seen the Costco in Shanghai, you have to at least see the UA-cam video blog! It's crazy busy...
Shanghai had the first Costco in China, and the popularity and demand was so big, Costco built the second warehouse in Shanghai.
It was reported that Costco sold out their membership in less than a day!
That's 80,000 memberships. People lined up the day before.

Most people in China don't make coffee at home. The 5 yuan sign in the potato chips section is: buy two get 5 yuan off.

Walmart placements are according to sites plans. Basement, 1st, and 2nd floors.
Chinese stores are extremely clean with wide walkways! During the holidays it gets crowded and you must have patience!
    Foods are great and tasty!
Open foods allow simular niche to a wet market. Locals want everything to their own tastes.
foods are fresher and plentiful from around the world!
We use all types of markets since 2004!
Snacks and candies boomed during 2006.
    Transparency Transparency seeing freshness.
If a product is available and good it sells quickly.
Clothes are a small area for the choosing... we get a lot through taobao , online marketing; 50 + boxes per month.
When I married my wife in 2004 her clothes were 10 years old and looked new.
We buy from Africa, Korea and other countries. Now I've reduced my belly size to pre usmc days and can buy new clothes this summertime. We both will have a shopping spree!!
Walmart is unique and a lot of great items!
Logistics would be interesting in any area to supply such amounts needed in China.
Have fun ... as I've learned~20 years ago China demands open minds!
    Enjoy yourself!

As the review said, we usually some Department Store snacks, clothes and the like can be bought online, because online cheaper, and more variety, But some of the food you eat is still bought in the market, but usually at the local market or the local supermarket. Will not go to foreign large supermarket chains, because it is too expensive, like the price of meat has been changing, pork is about 15 yuan per 500g, Sometimes it's more expensive, sometimes it's cheaper.
