The plate readers on the repo trucks/spotters are actually a little more complex than you think. They don't just cruise waiting to get a repo ping, they actually store and upload not only the plate, but also the location the plate was scanned so if the car comes up for repossession later, then the tow company can actually input the plate into the database and get a GPS map of everywhere that plate was scanned so they can have a good idea of where it's been and where it's likely to be. So, yeah. The cameras actually have more functionality than you think.

Your friend was LUCKY, most people have to jump through hoops to get a new engine, prove maintenance intervals, etc. I had a 2023 Tuscon SEL with the convenience package. That free maintenance means an oil change every 7000-7500 miles, if you try to bring it in early like at 4000 they won't pay for it or do it, i used to change every 3500 so i paid for every other one myself! I never test drove it and my front rotors were out of true rand new, i had to call Hyundai and they opened up a 'case' to make a long story short i brought it to another dealer and they replaced the front rotors, some dealers SUCK and i gave tons on negative feedback on that dealer!!!! For some reason it had factory out of spec rotors, i never drove it over 75 and no panic stops, etc I noticed it driving it home from the dealer. I traded it for a 2023 RAM 1500 Classic Warlock, i don't miss the Tuscon, good for gas mileage that's it!

The other issue is blend door actuators can require full dash removal if they are broken. Same engine as the v6 camry, v6 venza, and for a time a v6 rav4.

The 2013 Lexus 2GR FE engine is pretty bulletproof. The vehicle is a bit heavy, so it's slower than most cars with that 270hp engine. Figure 0-60 in 7, then finish the quarter mile in just over 15, doing 92mph. Don't drive like that, you might get 25mpg.
The Elantra isn't very high up in the Hyundai line, but is a very sensible econocar that has evolved a lot since I bought a new 1992 Saturn SL2 instead of it. You know, like how a Corolla now is bigger and nicer than a Camry was back in the day.

Luckily I had done the "software" update on my Kia Soul before the engine went out. Since they did the update the car went into limp mode when the rod blew and then I had it towed to the dealer. They did end up putting another engine in it free of charge to me. I did sell it right after that. I had a friend whose burned to the ground and the fireman told him it was the third or 4th one they had to put out. No more Kia's or Hyundai's for me

The Hyundai must have been an unwind, a deal that fell through. Im surprised it didn't just go back to the dealer and now it's here in the repo lot

The moment you said Hyundai’s are great cars , I decided to save my time and like for someone who knows about cars . I used to own a Hyundai palisade and let go off it within first year because of quality issues .

Well, Randy, there’s been all kinds of flooding this year. If you remember that hurricane that came up through Texas Missouri all the way up through Michigan cause lots of flooding. Just this week there’s all kinds of flooding going on in Connecticut so they’ll be lots of flooded cars up in that area eventually. I just watched a UA-cam video of the news highlights in Connecticut, hundreds of cars underwater Lady, I work with lives in Houston Texas. She was flooded out of her house for three weeks back in July so who knows where those flooded cars came from.

The lexus is an interesting spec. Base nav package but headlight washers.
I had a 2015 with Silver and Saddle Brown and it was a beautiful car. Unfortunately had sketchy history and electrical gremlins (uncommon) but it was slick.. Now have a 2017 RX and it's pretty good.

I’m thinking the buyer on the Hyaundi took it back & turned it in for some reason. You were closer on the price than I was, $28K. I enjoy the KIA K5 & Hyaundi’s. Not discussing politics as I enjoy just the vehicles you bring to the channel.

Kias & Hyundai are generally great cars. I get the 4cyls have a bad rep for a reason but with the 10yr warranty most new buyers wouldn't keep a Toyota for that long anyways. Great bang for your buck and the V6 Tellurides/Palisades cant be beat.

They don’t need plate readers, most of these new cars have a GPS, locator either from the factory or bank/dealer installed…..👍🇺🇸
