My dad was born in China. There was a very severe famine in the early 1900''s and his parents died in that famine. His surviving relatives brought him to Malaysia together with his sister. I remember he used to send money back to his relatives. They were so poor back then. I was very fortunate to secure a very good job that allowed me to see the world. My first visit to China was to Beijing in 1985 and I had tears in my eyes when I saw how poor the Chinese people were back then. China's economy was still not developed back then. I saw bicycles everywhere on the streets. No one owned a car. There were some Volkswagen Santana taxis which the locals couldn't afford. I could go on a day tour of Beijing and had 2 meals for less than US $15 a day. Today, China is so highly developed and so beautiful. The living standards of the Chinese people had improved by leaps and bounds. I really wish that my dad had lived a long life so that I could bring him back to see the impoverished China that he left behind in his childhood, had become such a highly developed and prosperous nation. Unfortunately, he died in a car accident when I was very young. In contrast. I saw how developed and rich the US was when I first flew to Hawaii and California in 1977. Americans were living a very good life and there were very few poor people. Today, there are so many poor people in the US living on the streets. Meanwhile, China had lifted up more than 700 million out of extreme poverty. We must give credit where credit is due. Deng Xiao Ping was a man of great vision and foresight. The other great Chinese leader was Lee Kuan Yew who brought Singapore out of poverty to a modern metropolis. It was in 1978 that Deng Xiao Ping came to visit Singapore when it was already on the ascendency. Lee Kuan Yew told Deng Xiao Ping that if we in Singapore who are descents of peasants from China can progress, you and your people can do much better than us. Those words must have struck him so hard that the moment he went back to China, he set up the Special Economic Zones. That visit to Singapore changed him and China. He later said "It doesn't matter whether the cat is black or white as long as it catches mice." He was referring to the style of government, regardless democratic or communist, it must improve the lives of its people. I am so happy to see a prosperous and vibrant China, the land of my forefathers.
I don't normally read comments this long, but I read yours 👍 There are a lot of things that happen behind the scenes that the average person don't see. There have been a number of colour revolution attempts, but all have failed. To prosper under those circumstances, and to then succeed in bringing the population out of poverty and misery is absolutely mind-boggling. I think no other country can replicate this. No-one but the Chinese government can deliver such brilliant results for its citizens 👍
I lived in the U.S., graduated, and worked there for five years before choosing to move back to Vietnam. Everyone asks me "Why not stay? Why reject the American dream?" Man they haven't lived there and witnessed the daily jokes about my race, the declining infrastructure, and the gun alerts in my neighborhood. I am a language teacher now and life is vibrant, safe, and I am not treated like a third class citizen. China is a wonderful country and a safer place unlike what is portrayed on mainstream media.

I felt exactly the same and I went to university in USA and worked there for a while but eventually I moved back to China. I didn’t want to feel like a third class citizen, and my country China is rising every day while in US everything is in decline.

I am from Singapore, i heard kindergarten in China learn to cook proper food. Is that correct? I do think it's a survival skills. My boyfriend cannot even cook instant noodles for me when i am super sick right after a surgery. His instant noodles was raw when served. Of course, he can order grab or go downstairs to buy some food but there is some differences.

Great words. I’m trying to teach to my teenager’s daughter the diversity of this wonderful world. As a single mom, I’m doing my best to travel and visit with my daughter one country a year. To show other cultures, to encourage to be curious for meeting new people, etc. I know, it’s not good for the environment… but I compensate somewhere else.

I am raising my kids in Shenzhen. We are Chinese. I travelled to almost all western countries and have done business with more than 50 countries' customers, I can say China is best place to raise the kids. And not only kids raising, in this more and more dangerous world, China is the last safe place to live.
the pollution is MUCH better than it used to be. there are many blue sky days. the worst of the pollution happens during the winter due to how they heat homes. on days that are polluted, we crank up the air purifiers and just stay indoors. but honestly, mostly every day we can go out!

Having lived in many countries around the world, the difference between the US and China is that, there's too much politicking in the US and not much work being done to improve the lives of the people. In China, there's no politicking and it's all work to improve the quality of life for its people.
We have nice suburbs here. Come to Vermont, New Hampshire, or Upstate NY. The big cities are all about crimes and drugs. I think Paris, London, and Berlin are essentially the same.

The US is an incredibly racist society and it’s not just white people that are racist, but black people as well! Being an Asian I experienced racism from both white and black people. I don’t want to get into too much details, but I have experienced racial slurs and threats coming from both white and black people here in the US.
Not surprising. I am from Australia and have heard of anecdotes from family members living in the U.S. of this racism from both whites and blacks against Asian minorities - mostly just because they "look Chinese" when they are of a different ethnicity.
Don’t you know that yellow people are fourth-class citizens in the United States? White people - black people - Latinos - yellow people, so it is normal for black people to discriminate against you 🤣

Black racism is pretty much nonexistent. You can see the significant representation of their race in the media, Hollywood, commercials, schools, workplaces, and sports for a group that only comprises about 13% of the US population. However, racism against Asians is on the rise, whether through affirmative action against students, diversity quota hiring, or just using everyday derogatory words, jokes, and stereotypes. Discriminatory behavior towards Asians is still tolerated, accepted, and often overlooked in the public domain.
Singaporean here. Spent 6 months in China earlier this year. Intending to go China. China is safe and developing fast. China is not what the West paints her to be. I really hope westerners visit China to see her for yourself. Yes, you may not like China at the end, but at least experience China for yourself and see what is on the ground there. Singaporean here too. I've went to china on self planned trips multiple times since way before covid and I certainly agree with you that china is more advanced than SG. Especially making payments via WeChat/alipay is so convenient in china and the stores there can just scan our qr code and direct deduct the correct amount, as compared to us in sg having to scan the store's qr code and mistakenly paying extra at times via paylah. Or even banking apps being down several times and we can't make payment lololol. The fact that my china fren has not seen physical cash in years when I wanted to pay her back was an eye opener to me. China even has cities that specialize in niche technologies in which the govt provide subsidies so that the city excel in that area. I do find it a shame that our younger generation and even my frens am unable to speak or read mandarin well these days.
From my experiences, China is now a consumer paradise. Living in America, the middle class lifestyle is dying a slow death, especially with rising cost of living, rent increases, buying a house feels like extortion. Also: traveling, you can't go anywhere without a car, and you need car insurance if you want a car. Problems with your car? use your last paycheck to fix it. America stopped investing in the middle class a long time ago, the rich communities are closing itself off, leaving everyone else to fend for themselves.
Agree with you. I’m Thai who went to study in Oklahoma in the ‘90s. I can say that racism in the ‘90s was much less than present. And yes I had experience racism on the daily basis then but I was never attacked. You can imagine being Asian in the rednecked country, but I was only verbally abused. I’m now back in Thailand. When looking at the U.S., I feel blessed that I am back home now. And only when you’re outside, you can see how the western media has spread all the lies about China. I think it's not cultural for Japanese to place elders in nursing homes. They must've adopted this practice from the West, especially from the US. Japan is after all an Asian country rooted in Confucian where filial piety is very important. S Koreans might go the same way. They seem to have no qualms adopting elements of western culture without giving proper thought and time and has somehow carved an identity in which they seem to revel. I think it is unnatural for humans to place elders in a nursing home. This practice must be a modern one and I'm not in favour of it.
I am a pure Chinese. I admit that China may not be as free as your country, but it is really very safe. It is the safest country on the earth. I think freedom is relative. When your safety is not guaranteed, freedom will appear ridiculous. What is the meaning of freedom? Americans can freely ridicule and abuse their own president, and publicly criticize the government. Maybe people think this is freedom? Yes, I admit that we cannot achieve this, perhaps because we have no reason? "Freedom" in the west hemisphere is just a deception. I'm not American but Mexican and my country always tries to imitate the USA with that democracy bullsh#t so we basically have the same problems, (well it's worse here to be honest, anyways). He was being silly. There are countries with five times the murder rate of The USA. Most of The USA is safe but a couple hundred slums are violent. I am Canadian. I am more likely to die in a car accident than an American is to die in a mass shooting.
I lived in Melbourne from 2019 to 2020, but eventually chose to return to China because life in Western countries is really unsafe for single women. I have never felt that going out in the middle of the night would be so dangerous, but in Australia, there are many such dangers. The homeless and drunk people on the streets make me feel very uncomfortable.
I've lived in the US for 20 years, and I plan to move to China after I retire. The public safety in the U.S. is too poor, you can get robbed at any time, and it could cost you your life. And, there are too many homeless people in the city, streets are dirty, and nobody manages the situation. The US has become an unsuitable place to live.

This is indeed very sad, and something I got to witnessed first hand. I grew up in California in the 1990s with some Asian kids from Chinese background. However their family have been in California since the 1800's. Both his parents and grandparents were born in the US and spoke perfect English. They still got treated like foreigners whenever they went out. It is truly a sad we are talking about this in 2024.

I'm Australian. I lived and taught in America for 13 years and left because of how unsafe the country is now, especially in schools. I went back to Australia for a year, but the cost of living and the school system there is out of control, so I'm also here in China. I teach at a Chinese public school and the PTSD I have from teaching in the US and Australia is fading away. I am excited to go to work everyday and I love exploring this wonderful country! I visited China in early April this year (2024) for the first time in my life and I was stunned by the quality of infrastructure, friendly people, delicious food in the restaurants and of course the history. The concept of freedom can subtly vary among different cultures and nations, but generally, for most Chinese people, we do have freedom, a reasonably good quality of life, and safe cities to live in. Dissatisfaction is from the minority; we know that it's impossible to satisfy 100% of the people anywhere in the world. The reality of China is quite different from what most foreigners know through Western media. As a Chinese person living in the West, I can attest that I often see many negative and even misleading information about my country. This is really sad for us, but for those chinese who live in China, they don't really care, for them, China is enough, they don't really care what other countries or people think about China since they have everything they need in their place.

safety is a primary concern for parents. No drugs abuse and gun violence in China. Also it is particularly for women. They can pursue their career or interests with affordable help by having ah yi (helpers) to look after their kids whereas in western countries, it is not easy to do so and mums are often tied down with housework and have to take the children everywhere they go.
I think the most important thing you choose to raise your kid in China is that you never need worry about drug abuse, almost no one addicted to drug, even weeds in China.
this is not true, there is drug problem along the border, it just harder to push the drug inland. China's "core" maybe well protected from vice, but all countries has a border somewhere... unless you are an island. one of the slogan for public awareness is "low crime doesn't mean no crime", the society is only safe if the society continously work to keep it that way.

Thank you for the video, and yes from what i saw and read everyone is impressed how friendly are people in China even in small places where they rarely see foreingers. Also all the provinces are different and extremely beautiful. Guangxi, Hunan, Yunnan, and others. And many scenic areas which are in every region are made with such taste and beauty. Really breathtaking. Every soul is different and what we love differs. I also find Asia attractive since childhood, especially China. Because of their concept of benevolence, harmony and peace, and the beauty of their poetry, music, art, movies, dramas, martial arts and many more. US also has a lot to offer. There're lots of good, talented people living there. But i wouldn't like to live there, i just wouldn't feel as safe as i feel in Europe. I have heard that if there is one city in Sweden that is dangerous it is Malmo and then Stockholm. Rise in gangs, mostly of Islamic origin, and use of Molotov cocktails, grenades, or explosive weapons and gun related violence has started to shoot us as well.
Sadly Sweden letting in all those immigrants has less to Sweden being the rape capital of Europe at one point, hopefully things are being managed well by the police

However it's also true that Swedish population by ourselves will shrink and to maintain the society we need people to come here. My perception of China changed after I came here! China is such an amazing country, and I’m seriously considering it as an option for settling down and working. I’m currently in Tianjin, not far from Beijing, and I love it here! I wish I could learn the language a bit better-that’s the only challenge I’m facing. Everything else has been pretty amazing. And yes, China is a very safe country, and the locals are so respectful and curious about foreigners. It’s common here to meet a local who is so friendly that they’ll invite you for a meal right away. I was amazed by the warmth and hospitality of the people. As for kids, they are incredibly polite and well-mannered. I teach some kids English, and I can tell they are definitely getting the right education, either at school or from their families.
Before you finally choose a city, it is recommended that you also visit southern cities such as Guangdong and Chengdu. China has a vast territory, and the climate and living habits vary from place to place. You can go take a look and compare more before making the final decision.
You are amazing and so is your family. Thank you for bringing the truth of life in China. Your kids will be multi-cultural when they grow up and it’s definitely the right choice to raise your kids in the Rising Superpower country. China has so much to offer

It costs more to live in China than it does to live in the USA right now. It might seem cheaper but the electric meters double-charge, gas meters run even when nothing is used, water meters double-charge. Income is very low. No one older than 35 years old is even considered for employment. You only think it's safe because the government suppresses all crime statistics - a trend which is increasing in the USA as well following the defund-the-police movement.

I came to Canada when I was in grade 9, then went to high school. High school was brutal, most people did not want to look at me let alone being friends with me, as if getting close to me would lower their status. I’m still traumatized now, and I can’t talk about it, cause if I do, people would say why don’t you go back to your country. If I were to spend my high school days differently, I would hang out with other Asian kids more, instead of trying to fit in to a circle that did not welcome me. I’ll definitely keep my options open in the future.

Was in Biloxi for Katrina, specifically to film Katrina. The storm surge was massive 27.8 feet in Waveland. Life after Katrina was hard for a long time. Don't blame for relocating one bit. We moved from Pensacola to west coast of Florida. Where Hurricanes are less frequent. Been here 3 years and already had 3 Hurricane Warnings. There is no escape from them in Florida. Wow, as an aging american who' lived in HK and beijing and china and singapore and asia since the 90's, after living 40 years stateside... I'd say don't be anxious about coming here. Rather, be anxious about having to go back, lol. Of course there will be some temporary adjustments at first, especially for me from a totally different culture and language. Now I feel Asian and I prefer it here and hope to stay & be buried here. The world is changing (sad).

We slept in shelters, trailer parks, and motels. During the “Great Evacuation,” some of my friends slept in the Super Dome, which had been turned into a giant shelter at the time. For some reason, I remember being slightly jealous of them lol

To be honest, in primary and secondary schools in China, teachers' words are more persuasive than parents'. After college students become adults, they no longer respect their teachers as much as they did when they were young, so Chinese university teachers have the least authority.
Having lived in China for 18 years before I moved to US 10 years ago, I found all her points are in line with my experience down south in Guangzhou with the exception of leaving the kids freely outside. I am glad to hear camera coverage in public places has improved a lot over the past 10 years to a point where you feel safe to leave the kids outside to play freely.

I used to the go Palm Springs for the hot Springs, this old guy chatted with me, he said his son had gone missing, he was biking as an adult and he had gone missing from Rural America, he pointed out some caution, he reminded me to put a no trespassing sign at my house for protection, he said he spends his days still searching for his son, what ever happen with him, I just wish he finds peace, the old man was a teacher and he was a good man in his old age, he was still wondering what on earth happen to his beloved son
The best thing I miss in China is the CLEAN and SAFE subway. There are no weirdo singing to my face or smelly people walking after me. Everyone needs to do bag check before they enter the subway so no worry for gun shooting, knives, etc.

Beijing is determined to establish itself as a bicycle-friendly city. Generally speaking, when I lived in Beijing, I could reach any destination within 100 kilometers by bicycle, but relying solely on a bicycle for commuting to and from work is still quite difficult: 1) It's too cold in the winter. 2) By the time I reach my workplace in the summer, I'm soaked in sweat. However, if the purpose is just exercise, Beijing is already quite friendly to cyclists. My dad was born in China.
There was a very severe famine in the early 1900''s and his parents died in that famine.
His surviving relatives brought him to Malaysia together with his sister.
I remember he used to send money back to his relatives. They were so poor back then.
I was very fortunate to secure a very good job that allowed me to see the world.
My first visit to China was to Beijing in 1985 and I had tears in my eyes when I saw how poor the Chinese people were back then. China's economy was still not developed back then.
I saw bicycles everywhere on the streets. No one owned a car.
There were some Volkswagen Santana taxis which the locals couldn't afford.
I could go on a day tour of Beijing and had 2 meals for less than US $15 a day.
Today, China is so highly developed and so beautiful.
The living standards of the Chinese people had improved by leaps and bounds.
I really wish that my dad had lived a long life so that I could bring him back to see the impoverished China that he left behind in his childhood, had become such a highly developed and prosperous nation.
Unfortunately, he died in a car accident when I was very young.
In contrast. I saw how developed and rich the US was when I first flew to Hawaii and California in 1977.
Americans were living a very good life and there were very few poor people.
Today, there are so many poor people in the US living on the streets.
Meanwhile, China had lifted up more than 700 million out of extreme poverty.
We must give credit where credit is due.
Deng Xiao Ping was a man of great vision and foresight.
The other great Chinese leader was Lee Kuan Yew who brought Singapore out of poverty to a modern metropolis.
It was in 1978 that Deng Xiao Ping came to visit Singapore when it was already on the ascendency.
Lee Kuan Yew told Deng Xiao Ping that if we in Singapore who are descents of peasants from China can progress, you and your people can do much better than us.
Those words must have struck him so hard that the moment he went back to China, he set up the Special Economic Zones.
That visit to Singapore changed him and China.
He later said "It doesn't matter whether the cat is black or white as long as it catches mice."
He was referring to the style of government, regardless democratic or communist, it must improve the lives of its people.

I lived in the U.S., graduated, and worked there for five years before choosing to move back to Vietnam. Everyone asks me "Why not stay? Why reject the American dream?" Man they haven't lived there and witnessed the daily jokes about my race, the declining infrastructure, and the gun alerts in my neighborhood. I am a language teacher now and life is vibrant, safe, and I am not treated like a third class citizen. China is a wonderful country and a safer place unlike what is portrayed on mainstream media.

I felt exactly the same and I went to university in USA and worked there for a while but eventually I moved back to China. I didn’t want to feel like a third class citizen, and my country China is rising every day while in US everything is in decline.

I am from Singapore, i heard kindergarten in China learn to cook proper food. Is that correct? I do think it's a survival skills.
My boyfriend cannot even cook instant noodles for me when i am super sick right after a surgery. His instant noodles was raw when served. Of course, he can order grab or go downstairs to buy some food but there is some differences.

I am raising my kids in Shenzhen. We are Chinese. I travelled to almost all western countries and have done business with more than 50 countries' customers, I can say China is best place to raise the kids. And not only kids raising, in this more and more dangerous world, China is the last safe place to live.
the pollution is MUCH better than it used to be. there are many blue sky days. the worst of the pollution happens during the winter due to how they heat homes. on days that are polluted, we crank up the air purifiers and just stay indoors. but honestly, mostly every day we can go out!

As a Croatian I was in the East and West of the USA - and this country will never see me again. Too scary.
We have nice suburbs here. Come to Vermont, New Hampshire, or Upstate NY. The big cities are all about crimes and drugs. I think Paris, London, and Berlin are essentially the same.

Thanks for bringing up a topic that not too many vloggers that live in China talk about - racism. The US is an incredibly racist society and it’s not just white people that are racist, but black people as well! Being an Asian I experienced racism from both white and black people. I don’t want to get into too much details, but I have experienced racial slurs and threats coming from both white and black people here in the US.
Not surprising. I am from Australia and have heard of anecdotes from family members living in the U.S. of this racism from both whites and blacks against Asian minorities - mostly just because they "look Chinese" when they are of a different ethnicity.

Singaporean here. Spent 6 months in China earlier this year. Intending to go China. China is safe and developing fast. China is not what the West paints her to be.
I really hope westerners visit China to see her for yourself. Yes, you may not like China at the end, but at least experience China for yourself and see what is on the ground there.

Singaporean here too. I've went to china on self planned trips multiple times since way before covid and I certainly agree with you that china is more advanced than SG.
Especially making payments via WeChat/alipay is so convenient in china and the stores there can just scan our qr code and direct deduct the correct amount, as compared to us in sg having to scan the store's qr code and mistakenly paying extra at times via paylah. Or even banking apps being down several times and we can't make payment lololol. The fact that my china fren has not seen physical cash in years when I wanted to pay her back was an eye opener to me.
China even has cities that specialize in niche technologies in which the govt provide subsidies so that the city excel in that area.
I do find it a shame that our younger generation and even my frens am unable to speak or read mandarin well these days.
From my experiences, China is now a consumer paradise. Living in America, the middle class lifestyle is dying a slow death, especially with rising cost of living, rent increases, buying a house feels like extortion. Also: traveling, you can't go anywhere without a car, and you need car insurance if you want a car. Problems with your car? use your last paycheck to fix it. America stopped investing in the middle class a long time ago, the rich communities are closing itself off, leaving everyone else to fend for themselves.

Agree with you. I’m Thai who went to study in Oklahoma in the ‘90s. I can say that racism in the ‘90s was much less than present. And yes I had experience racism on the daily basis then but I was never attacked. You can imagine being Asian in the rednecked country, but I was only verbally abused. I’m now back in Thailand. When looking at the U.S., I feel blessed that I am back home now. And only when you’re outside, you can see how the western media has spread all the lies about China. Oh! one more thing that deters me to visit the U.S. again is their tipping culture. 😅😅

I think it's not cultural for Japanese to place elders in nursing homes. They must've adopted this practice from the West, especially from the US. Japan is after all an Asian country rooted in Confucian where filial piety is very important. S Koreans might go the same way. They seem to have no qualms adopting elements of western culture without giving proper thought and time and has somehow carved an identity in which they seem to revel.
I think it is unnatural for humans to place elders in a nursing home. This practice must be a modern one and I'm not in favour of it.

I lived in Melbourne from 2019 to 2020, but eventually chose to return to China because life in Western countries is really unsafe for single women. I have never felt that going out in the middle of the night would be so dangerous, but in Australia, there are many such dangers. The homeless and drunk people on the streets make me feel very uncomfortable.
I've lived in the US for 20 years, and I plan to move to China after I retire. The public safety in the U.S. is too poor, you can get robbed at any time, and it could cost you your life. And, there are too many homeless people in the city, streets are dirty, and nobody manages the situation. The US has become an unsuitable place to live.

This is indeed very sad, and something I got to witnessed first hand. I grew up in California in the 1990s with some Asian kids from Chinese background. However their family have been in California since the 1800's. Both his parents and grandparents were born in the US and spoke perfect English. They still got treated like foreigners whenever they went out. It is truly a sad we are talking about this in 2024.

I'm Australian. I lived and taught in America for 13 years and left because of how unsafe the country is now, especially in schools. I went back to Australia for a year, but the cost of living and the school system there is out of control, so I'm also here in China. I teach at a Chinese public school and the PTSD I have from teaching in the US and Australia is fading away. I am excited to go to work everyday and I love exploring this wonderful country! I visited China in early April this year (2024) for the first time in my life and I was stunned by the quality of infrastructure, friendly people, delicious food in the restaurants and of course the history. Dissatisfaction is from the minority; we know that it's impossible to satisfy 100% of the people anywhere in the world.
The reality of China is quite different from what most foreigners know through Western media. As a Chinese person living in the West, I can attest that I often see many negative and even misleading information about my country. This is really sad for us, but for those chinese who live in China, they don't really care, for them, China is enough, they don't really care what other countries or people think about China since they have everything they need in their place.

safety is a primary concern for parents. No drugs abuse and gun violence in China. Also it is particularly for women. They can pursue their career or interests with affordable help by having ah yi (helpers) to look after their kids whereas in western countries, it is not easy to do so and mums are often tied down with housework and have to take the children everywhere they go.

I think the most important thing you choose to raise your kid in China is that you never need worry about drug abuse, almost no one addicted to drug, even weeds in China.
this is not true, there is drug problem along the border, it just harder to push the drug inland. China's "core" maybe well protected from vice, but all countries has a border somewhere... unless you are an island. one of the slogan for public awareness is "low crime doesn't mean no crime", the society is only safe if the society continously work to keep it that way.

Thank you for the video, and yes from what i saw and read everyone is impressed how friendly are people in China even in small places where they rarely see foreingers. Also all the provinces are different and extremely beautiful. Guangxi, Hunan, Yunnan, and others. And many scenic areas which are in every region are made with such taste and beauty. Really breathtaking.
Every soul is different and what we love differs. I also find Asia attractive since childhood, especially China. Because of their concept of benevolence, harmony and peace, and the beauty of their poetry, music, art, movies, dramas, martial arts and many more.
US also has a lot to offer. There're lots of good, talented people living there. But i wouldn't like to live there, i just wouldn't feel as safe as i feel in Europe.

I have heard that if there is one city in Sweden that is dangerous it is Malmo and then Stockholm.

However it's also true that Swedish population by ourselves will shrink and to maintain the society we need people to come here. My perception of China changed after I came here! China is such an amazing country, and I’m seriously considering it as an option for settling down and working. I’m currently in Tianjin, not far from Beijing, and I love it here! I wish I could learn the language a bit better-that’s the only challenge I’m facing. Everything else has been pretty amazing. And yes, China is a very safe country, and the locals are so respectful and curious about foreigners. It’s common here to meet a local who is so friendly that they’ll invite you for a meal right away. I was amazed by the warmth and hospitality of the people. As for kids, they are incredibly polite and well-mannered. I teach some kids English, and I can tell they are definitely getting the right education, either at school or from their families.

China also built and still builds the highway Milos The Great. Honestly, I don't know the quality of it, but for now everything looks very good. Also it's not all just about the business, we also have visa free traveling for up to 90 days, very good export conditions etc. It looks positive for now. 🤝 The industry thing, I know you're doing better than the US. I'm trying to keep myself informed about the growth in China, but I'm not sure what sources are reliable.

It costs more to live in China than it does to live in the USA right now. It might seem cheaper but the electric meters double-charge, gas meters run even when nothing is used, water meters double-charge. Income is very low. No one older than 35 years old is even considered for employment. You only think it's safe because the government suppresses all crime statistics - a trend which is increasing in the USA as well following the defund-the-police movement.

Overpopulated regions can have night markets because overcrowding on the streets can be reduced by people using streets at different times of day.
I came to Canada when I was in grade 9, then went to high school. High school was brutal, most people did not want to look at me let alone being friends with me, as if getting close to me would lower their status. I’m still traumatized now, and I can’t talk about it, cause if I do, people would say why don’t you go back to your country. If I were to spend my high school days differently, I would hang out with other Asian kids more, instead of trying to fit in to a circle that did not welcome me. I’ll definitely keep my options open in the future.

We moved from Pensacola to west coast of Florida. Where Hurricanes are less frequent. Been here 3 years and already had 3 Hurricane Warnings. There is no escape from them in Florida. Wow, as an aging american who' lived in HK and beijing and china and singapore and asia since the 90's, after living 40 years stateside... I'd say don't be anxious about coming here. Rather, be anxious about having to go back, lol. Of course there will be some temporary adjustments at first, especially for me from a totally different culture and language. Now I feel Asian and I prefer it here and hope to stay & be buried here. The world is changing (sad).

My family was homeless for a few weeks when we decided to evacuate to Texas. We slept in shelters, trailer parks, and motels.

Having lived in China for 18 years before I moved to US 10 years ago, I found all her points are in line with my experience down south in Guangzhou with the exception of leaving the kids freely outside. I am glad to hear camera coverage in public places has improved a lot over the past 10 years to a point where you feel safe to leave the kids outside to play freely.

I used to the go Palm Springs for the hot Springs, this old guy chatted with me, he said his son had gone missing, he was biking as an adult and he had gone missing from Rural America, he pointed out some caution, he reminded me to put a no trespassing sign at my house for protection, he said he spends his days still searching for his son, what ever happen with him, I just wish he finds peace, the old man was a teacher and he was a good man in his old age, he was still wondering what on earth happen to his beloved son

The best thing I miss in China is the CLEAN and SAFE subway. There are no weirdo singing to my face or smelly people walking after me. Everyone needs to do bag check before they enter the subway so no worry for gun shooting, knives, etc.

I never thought of it that way but what you said about foreigners clumping to themselves in western countries is so true. You rarely see people venture out of their racial groups in the west, yet in Asia, it’s like “omg you’re another group, let’s clump up.” Interesting
China has a different culture. I don't know how to describe it. It is a popular culture with a strong tendency towards egalitarianism. No matter how big the gap between the rich and the poor is, everyone believes that it is the best state for everyone to have a place to live, everyone is safe, and everyone is rich. In Chinese, it is called "world peace". This seems to be different from the situation in the West. Beijing is determined to establish itself as a bicycle-friendly city. Generally speaking, when I lived in Beijing, I could reach any destination within 100 kilometers by bicycle, but relying solely on a bicycle for commuting to and from work is still quite difficult:
1) It's too cold in the winter.
2) By the time I reach my workplace in the summer, I'm soaked in sweat.
However, if the purpose is just exercise, Beijing is already quite friendly to cyclists. There are many dedicated bicycle lanes, as well as some non-dedicated roads that are very suitable for cycling, totaling several thousand kilometers in length. Anyway, I'm going to go for a bike ride now, a 40-kilometer dedicated bicycle greenway along the river, so even though the weather is very hot, I still want to go!
