One of my favorite things about this channel (specifically the KW and the Audi) is the budget decisions. And the mess. It feels real. Awesome antidote to sanitized hyper builds. (and I'm glad you're not going to loose the shop)
"Hey, you know how we are working our butts off trying to get three projects to a car show next week? Let's also put out a 1 hour video during that time." Rich and Aaron, you guys are awesome.
Its 1 hour because Its not a normal video.Less edited and more of a stream vod type
That one hour video could have taken 12+ hours or a couple days to create. Then and equal or more amount of time to edit
After watching this it gives me appreciation for the folks that work on these trucks for a living as everything is kingsize and not easy to move without forklifts, etc.
Got to be strong enough and smart enough or else you break yourself haha
@@aaronhall7740 the job certainly takes a toll on the body after many years of doing it . I used to like the when the odd COE would come in for tranny or engine work so much easier with the cab removed from the equation.
My uncle would have been one of the guys driving a riding mower around Dunnville 😆....R.I.P Uncle Tomahawk
Pro tip for the future don’t leave anything in the cab when you’re raising it I’ve had things fall from the footwell of a truck and smash the windshield
Pro tip for you kick the tires and fire her up and HAMMER DOWN
Sounds like a personal experience lol
I once upon a time knew a guy who was so proud of his new snake skin boot that he wouldn't wear them, he would set them up high on the dog house for everyone to see, and he slammed on the brakes and his boots cracked the windshield, be smarter than him, he also once bought a monkey for his wife and thought I can get the company to pay for it, so he had it written up as a monkey wrench for $100 back in the early 80"s that didn't go over well either
LoL... seen a 12" TV fly through the windshield once! TV broke once it hit the concrete!
Ouch!
Let’s GOOO!!!!
By far my favorite project on UA-cam right now!
Out of all I watch he’s the only one Actually finish his projects
Rich, everyone is a expert as I have personally witnessed myself. Working in the logging camps in southeast Alaska gave me the knowledge... that no two trucks fall together the same way. But that said, this is the first time for me to see the transmission come in from the top. They need to invent a narrow ratchet strap thats got the same strength and yet not get in the way.. I know you have done this a few times and even so found the test runs didn't really go like planned on the final step. I used to find myself holding my breath till a bolt would start. Thank you for the most real install going yet on the internet and congrats on making this a truck again. Heaven forbid some other hidden agenda is lurking behind the scenes
Nibbling great
There is. I have a pile of half width ratchet straps that are almost the same rating.
In saying that, an actual lifting strap is way thinner and easier to work with but you can't adjust the length
FYI, you can ratchet strap the cab back over centre. You can also use a ratchet strap to stop the cab lowering over center if the hydraulics are leaky.
The K model was the most beautiful truck ever made in my opinion back in 1973. The only KW I ever drove, however, was a 1990 T-600 "Anteater". The last cabover I drove was a 1990 Freightliner - the one that I was almost killed in and the one that ended my OTR career.
Cabovers have a faulty design that make them dangerous to drive. A side impact could twist the cab beyond the capabilities of the cab locks to do what they were designed to do, allowing forward momentum to flip the cab over where the driver can be seriously injured or killed.
This is what happened to me on April 28, 1992. 3 days after the accident I came to in the hospital and was told that they "lost me" 3 times. Every bone in my body above the waste was either broken or separated and a fractured skull blinded me in the right eye (ending my career). I spent 2 years recuperating and had to start my working career at the bottom - very depressing after investing so much time, money, and effort.
Even if I could drive again, I'd never go near a cab over again.
I love the editing on this video, makes you feel like your there with them!
I agree!!!
Always have a safety catch chain on the cab to frame when going over center with the cab. There can be air in the hydraulic lines. In free fall the cab can pull the cab rams apart.
We have a similar but different set up here in the uk 99% of the trucks we use are cab overs that are literally a dash, seat then bed in the back, when the cabs go over centre it’s alarmingly sketchy lol the best I’ve seen are the pneumatic electric pump operated systems you can control it from bottom to top
@@simonhenry8598 The new iveco stralis near kisses the floor once it starts to tip, tight arse moment the first time round
@@BangorBmxGang it is a mechanic who came out to me years ago when I was driving a MAN wiped out the front grill forgetting it was open 😂
Another trick is leaving something in the cab or sleeper and having it cascade forward and down as the cab tips forward, breaking the windshield or smashing something in the dash.
And make sure you have everything secured and not loose... or you will quickly see it zip past.
I wonder how many projects, just like this, your followers will attempt to duplicate. None probably. You are one brave Canadian.
I held my breath when you said that 13 speed was the same as the 10, "just 3 extra gears." The back half of the trans on a 13 speed has a whole additional set of gears and an extra shifter for splitting, and is a whole lot bigger than the back half on a 10. Guess you found that out. . .!!!! Hopefully by now you've also remembered/discovered that you need a different shift knob mechanism and additional nylon air line as you now have an extra piston to move on the back half for the splitter!!
I was saying the same thing...the extra gears make it bigger..
Same as the 10 as in same final drive ratio out the back. It's just extra gears.
That used to be my job when we were putting new engines and transmissions in semi trucks. Oh to be 19 again and driving around with an engine almost heavier than the forklift. OSHA would not have been pleased. I can still hear the boss directing me with a Cummins 400 hanging from the forks. "Tilt the boom just a smidge forward", "sorry no can do" "than hop off and come help me" "sorry, no can do" "why?" "Cuz the steer tires aren't touching the ground but now and then!" "Ah crap we got to take the front tire off then so we can get closer". 😂 Lol
Thank You Rich for putting another cabover back on the road. I miss seeing them on the highways. Beautiful truck man!
One of my favorite parts of this channel is the unique intro for each build and that it's almost always added to as it progresses
You are a model of patience!! Great example of what it really takes to be a superb mechanic/technician.
Hey. She’s looking great. Tech tip for future trans installs.
Cut the heads off a couple of long bolts and thread them into the back of the engine. Use them as guides/studs through the trans bell housing as you walk the trans up to the engine, helps keep everything square and lined up.
Throw some grease on the said studs and be real careful to keep your angles good and the weight off the studs so you dont bend them or worse break the back of the engine. This helps aligning the plates for the last portion of the trans install.
Rich has the right attitude. Laugh at the problems. It's so much better for your mental health and relationships than getting mad.
Very good communication between forklift operator(Rich) and your buddy when jnstalling the rad. Top notch!👍🇨🇦
I need to rewatch this series and count how many times Rich has said "get Vince to weld that" lol
Brilliant guys well done getting that transmission installed. I’m 60 years old now and stay clear of big trucks but you made me smile and brought back lots of good memories as back in the day I was one of those people laying on my back changing transmissions and clutches etc mainly on Ford, Leyland and Scania trucks here in the UK. Keep up the great content and I can’t wait to see this beast up and running 😀👍🏻👍🏻
Love watching friends working together!
That's got to be the heaviest clutch that I have ever seen, what a monster.
Awesome Job, In my book putting that Cat back in that truck looked like Art Work it was so Damn good. Please keep up the Great Videos for your loyal fans/followers like me. Thank you!
Your presentation ,commentary and editing make you videos just plain fun to watch .
You're a machine man. I love how hard you work
i actually really enjoyed this more "raw" style of a video. it feels more real
Living my dream of restoring a cabover Kenworth. Looks so good!
I want an international from the mid 90's, my dad drove them back then, I don't want to drive it or should I say work it, stay strong
that's quiet an achievement rich, thanks for bringing us along
“Get Vince to weld that “ Rich favourite words haha ... really enjoy your videos bud .
For alignment of transmission to engine, I cut bolt heads off of two or three bolts. Grind a cone on end of headless bolts. Then thread the headless bolts into engine. Then slip transmission on to headless bolts. Slide transmission to engine. Start other bolts
Then remove headless bolts. You are good to go.
You guys have done a beautiful job making a silk purse out of a sow's ear.😉
Watching this right as the countdown ended! Never been this early to a video!
Coming down to the wire! Sure looks different with the engine and transmission installed. Thank you for recording, really enjoying this build.
The best part of installing an engine is when you see the tension come off of the chains and it's in it's final resting place. A great sense of accomplishment 👍
THIS IS THE BEST CHANNEL OUT HERE. YOU HAVE DONE AN ABSOLUTE AMAZING JOB ON THIS RIG CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT FINISHED SO SO BADD ASS...
It's a beauty Rich !!! Although it's not fair to compare American cabovers with the European trucks, it is a beautiful truck in my opinion...Congratulations for all the outcome !! All NEW !!Bravo !!
my heart skipped a beat when that cab passed the tipping point!
It's brilliant watching this kenworth come together for another life a fine job your doing cheers from England 🇬🇧.
If the feedback says I disliked this video...it's very wrong. I loved it.
Stay safe everyone 🤘😎
Best wishes to you and all ❤️
so, because you liked it - everybody will like it - got it
for people wondering about blue light lol, big factories or small too, alot of them in warehouses or places that can be darker, they use theses bluelights on various machine to prevent collision at the end of an aisle if someone dont stop, also let pedestrian know that a machine is coming.
bloody hell Rich !!! I took a step back from my screen when you lifted that engine just to be safe, great job mate.!!!
Love your friend's accent, sounds like he's from the TV show and movie Fargo! Coming from an Australian ;)
I enjoyed the simple footage of the guys just working and communicating with each other. Sometimes you don’t need a lot of editing and music. I hope they do more of this in the future.
Truck looks amazing. Thanks for keeping your channel real. Real highs ,real lows, but always positive !
Amazing effort rich and team 💪 this is the best build on UA-cam by far! Well done from Scotland 🏴
I’m tired just watching this. Can’t imagine how well you sleep at night.
Hey rich I'm just watching this half way through and wanted to mention that I like the fact that you are explaining your methods to your helper there and not just to the camera (audience) , I hope to see more of this. Keep it up guys thanks
Hey Rich, keep up the good work! All your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed to us viewers, you’re killing it.
That was a big milestone, downhill from there 👍
Friendly tip: Before cutting the bolt thread the nut pass where you plan to cut, and when you cut it take it off, and it will clear the threads.
Great work guys. I'm so ready to see it rolling coal pulling "Shermanator" down the road. Take care Rich and crew......
LOVE the video format, I could watch this every night!!
Your buddy looks like the Canadian mechanic version of Jeremy Renner. Great video guys!
7:02 the blue light is so other people on a busy loading dock and see youre about to back out of a trailer
Or out of a row in a warehouse or production facility
Looking good can’t wait to see the finished version.
Mesmerizing work and commentary.
I'm puzzled by the economics of it, but entertained none the less.
I’ve raised quite a few cabs over center and my heart races every single time I hit that tipping point
Everybody who leaves a comment and hits the like will literally be helping Rich make the truck even nicer...Now do it!
I can't wait to see this truck finished
She's getting there. Good work. It ain't easy. Like your work.
you did a great job on that truck looks great, I wish that I had it,keep up the good work.
Yup this is by far one of my favorites That you've done
My word my heart is thumping after that.
Nice work as usual. Hope to meet you and the team at the show.
-Pidge
You guys need to discover the wonders of the Spud Wrench when lining up holes. :)
Absolutely beautiful cabover 👌👌👌
Wow, monster project, keeping patience in check is getting harder I think. Looking very nice
very exciting to see the drivetrain in the truck. WTG team
that was fun to watch!! Great job
Cool, great vid!! 👍👍👍
Love your stuff. Great choice of a truck to rebuild--Love 3406 Bs. God Speed
That was the "finger of Rich" putting that input shaft in the pilot bearing.. never have them go in that easy..lol... getting close guy's...thx for the update
That went pretty good considering how big and heavy all this stuff is. It does help that you two know what your doing, I think it's coming along great.
well done what a job keep up the good work
"We'll get Vince to weld that" should honestly be on a T-shirt for this truck! LOL
awsome! Get after it Dutch boi!
Love seeing the progress on this rig. Keep up the hard work! Also real glad I bought 2 tape bosses before I couldn't lol I leave the wife messages on 1 before I head to work and then I listen to what her response is in the morning when I get home lol the other one I leave at work for more work related information lol
awesome, love it. Glad you like it!
im glad im not the only one having issues finding the hole.....😉👍
Epic adventures Rich..good viewing
Great vid, u guys had me nervous with the radiator. I have a cocktail now , carry on.
Great stuff, ONE recommendation, Amazon sells these amazing head lamps, like 2 for 20, last most the day, I wear one all the time now while working, can see so much better.
YES cabover episodes!
You owe those guys a 12 pack each of their favorite barely based beverage! I just wish I had one friend like that. Good for you blokes. Who says bro-love ain't real✊
Good job ,man u put the work in..
Looking very Good Rich
Thanks for the wonderful video great footage
Loved that engine.
I like the VGG hat Rich.
Приятно смотреть как авто получает свою вторую жизнь, удачи вам парни, хорошее дело делаете, надеюсь увидеть продолжение. Быть добру.. 👍
I'm at work right now putting in a trans in a personal hauler. Doing it on the ground from underneath with absolutely no room to see, move or work. I'm jealous you guys can stand there and put bolts in! Cab overs are great for that reason!
Looks like it went well !!! Nice job your doing on the truck !! John Taylor
Keep up the good work. Doing one hell of a job. I found that it’s a little easier to hang the clutch on the trans and then bolt it to flywheel after the trans is installed you don’t need as much room to slide them up and down that way. Just giving you some ideas for the next time
I loved cab overs when I used to work on those....
My favorite build !!!!
Awesome job 👏 👍
Rebuild a K100 they said. It'll be fun they said.
Beautiful truck❤️
Good work guys.
