Very nice video on DIY 100 Hour Maintenance. However, if one has to run this Honda 3K during the collapse, it should be concealed in a garage. So, if you could create a video on how to install Exhaust Extension Kits onto Muffler Pipe. That way one could route the extension to the outside via dryer vent concealment.
I wish i installed an hour meter on my eu3000. Doing quick math ive got over 10k hours on my unit. It runs my camper which ive lived in for over two years.
Lol wow you noticed ! Your maybe the only one. Yes I moved it because it made the unit wider and was banging into things when I moved it. So behind it didn’t add width and didn’t vibrate which I liked much better.
Are you meaning the the flame arrestor ? Or muffler? Or cylinder head? Flame arrestor was already done in the video. Muffler only if chunks of soot/carbon build up is shooting out. Combustion chamber or cylinder only if needed. And if needed it’s probably from running at to low of engine speeds and not building enough heat. I would try a aggressive fuel cleaner first and over treat.
@@johnnysweekends Thanks for the fast reply! I'm referring to the cylinder head, the owner's manual suggests doing so after 500 hours, but I'm thinking that's likely overkill and more trouble than it's worth. I bought a used EU3000is and have no clue how many hours are on it, but the spark arrestor screen was pretty dirty. I'll get to the spark plug and replacing the filters soon in addition to the oil change. It runs fine, so I likely won't touch the cylinder head. I smell gas fumes around the gas cap, so need to replace the cap gasket (if that's a service item) or the entire cap... AWESOME tip on using a torch to burn off the carbon on the spark arrestor screen, works like a charm!
Yea there is still a saying if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Kinda like valve adjustment. If it starts quick and every time don’t touch. No back firing or rough running leave them. Again the head could be cleaned with a good double fuel treatment and decent load like 60-80% to build some heat. This will do a great job cleaning it. 😀👍🏼
I'm having a hard time getting my spark plug socket onto the spark plug. it seems like the OHV cover is in the way. Any suggestion on how to fix the problem? Thank you.
If you have the original spark plug long socket tube that may help. But I have only heard this one other time before. You may try and loosen the valve cover bolts and see if it will move but it won’t be much. I know mine is pretty snug as well. Let me know if you got it
That’s typically done every 300 hours or more or like most people never touch it till it gives problems. Kinda like there car.. but those are internal now on the fuel pump.

Also depends where yours has been living… high moisture or not. Here is the tri fuel kit 😀👍🏼 TRI Fuel generator Kit Tri fuel conversion Honda Eu3000is ua-cam.com/video/rAqX26a5Ukc/v-deo.html
Why not check replace the Honda OEM 16952-KJ9-752 CH80 ELITE 80 PETCOCK FILTER/SCREEN and or o-ring while your at the sediment cup? I don't think it's necessary for 100 hour service, but it would make a good video. Most people don't even know it's hiding in the bottom of your tank. It does get blocked up with particles, rust, or water. Even if it does not get blocked up, eventually the plastic screen swells up and doesn't allow enough fuel to follow through the holes. Eventually mine became a non-runner because of this screen. The sediment cup and spark arrestor were good points, too. Most people never check those.
You definitely do not want to cross thread it. When putting it in seat the plug then turn it back wards a full turn or so, that way the threads will line up. Then thread it in. Once it’s closer to all the way down is when it hits that smash washer. Then it’s about another full turn or till snug. You don’t have to cram it in super tight till it won’t go anymore.
Yea I wouldn’t even bother with it till every 500 maybe even more till your generators maybe having a issue. It’s not required in the manual for 100hr so didn’t bother.
@@johnnysweekends I have the Hutch Mountain tri-fuel kit. I run it on propane and natural gas. Had to use a Champion RC12YC spark plug to run on natural gas.
@@Asidebar It does though. The reason most kits limit getting full output is because the jet limits propane fuel flow. Johnny's Tri-fuel kit from US Carburation has a valve that allows adjustment of fuel flow. The Hutch Mountain setup their jet to allow enough fuel flow to get rated running watts. For Natural gas, there isn't a jet for the EU3000is. I can get rated watts on natural gas as well.
I have replaced it. But I decided not to. And I didn’t for several just for fun. Never a leak. Same with my dirt bike I had even a couple vehicles If they had them. Still have a couple in the drawer. Just another you don’t need. Try it and keep the spare.
Why do portable generators need so much maintenance? 100 hours? Think about any other gas engine that you would need to do all this every 100 hours! Your car, lawnmower, weedwhacker, chain saw…they make them for occasional use ONLY! 100 hours is 8 hours a night for 12 days! Every twelve days you need to do all this? That is some really crappy equipment. I wonder how they make them so delicate compared to almost any other type of equipment with a gas engine. And for TWENTY FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS?!?! Honda has gone downhill drastically. I bought two Honda generators at Home Depot and one was burning oil straight out of the box. The other started doing it after about 20 hours. I broke them in gently and changed the oil after the first 10 hours.
Well this is what’s called for on all small engines. Mainly because the amount of oil is minimal. The other stuff is not so important if you use it a lot. When sitting all the time is when things more attention. But these are some of the most reliable units out there. Well used to be. But there are a lot of options out there.

@@johnnysweekends but it won't have same amount of power with propane
Check the video I did on the tri fuel kit. Power was hardly effected at all..😀👍🏼
@@Asidebar It does though.
👍🏻
You forgot to also replace the oil drain plug sealing/crush washer.
I have replaced it. But I decided not to. And I didn’t for several just for fun. Never a leak. Same with my dirt bike I had even a couple vehicles If they had them.
Still have a couple in the drawer. Just another you don’t need. Try it and keep the spare.
Forgot to oil the pre filter...
Your the only one who has mentioned it !
It’s in the description because I totally forgot 😂👍🏼
Where's the battery
Behind the front panel. It will need to be removed
