I had a customer make me cry once. I literally thought this guy might get physical, I was legitimately scared because of how much he raised his voice. The restaurant was crazy, it was a summer lunch rush and this guy had no chill! I was literally shaking! I ringed up his order twice and he was convinced that I was wrong when I wasn’t. I actually undercharged him the second time because I was freaking out so bad!

fr u learn a lot in customer service, and handling rudeeee customers is the toughest. one time i had lost my dad while i was out of the country for a trip, i ended up leaving my trip early bc of it and my boss asked if i could come in the next day after i arrived. tbh i should’ve said no and she would’ve been okay with it, but we were short staffed that night bc lots of people called out “sick” and i said sure bc i thought it might help take my mind of losing my dad. i was SOOO wrong. even though i loved my job i just couldn’t handle myself that day. i came in depressed and got my apron on and I wanted to wash my hands before clocking in. so i turned to one of our sinks to wash my hands, then a hear this voice saying “so u just gon ignore me and not take my order” with such a nasty attitude, i said “sir, let me wash my hands and clock in and i’ll be with you” this man was so picky and so rude i felt so belittled. it was a couple and tbh the man was the only one that was rude i just felt bad for the girl bc she looked at me apologetic and she fr looked so embarrassed. i went to the back and cried for like 1 min and went back to work. ALSO i went home that night and found out my coworkers that called out “sick” were actually partying so i fr was so pissed i got called to cover them bc they wanted to party while i came in even though i lost someone in my family. a few months later i left and now i’m a teacher assistant. even tho i hated it bc of some customers, i loved it bc it helped me with my anxiety and people skills. I can't remember a time a *rude* customer made me cry (probably has happened though), but one time I was having a really, really bad day because of some stuff from my personal life: I was taking a customer's order, choking on my words with glassy eyes then she stopped in the middle of a sentence and asked me if I was okay. I bawled out immediately and she immediately offered me a hug (and I accepted). It took her a while to leave the store because she wanted to know if I was okay (I was led to the back by coworkers). I work in the fish department at a pet store and work with one of the sweetest people on the planet. I’ll call her Mandy. Mandy is a few years younger than me and was somewhat new at the time of this incident, which happened while I was on my lunch break so I didn’t even see it happen and I’m still ticked. Mandy had just caught a fish for this woman and then went back to check the price only to discover that the fish wasn’t for sale. I usually check the price before bagging the fish, but as I said she was fairly new at the time. The woman went ballistic, talking about how she had waited for the fish and therefore she should get it and basically just went off on this poor girl and she started to cry. This karen had apparently already been rude to the customers, pushing them out of the way to see the fish, and it was very crowded that day. One of my managers actually ended up calling the cops on her because she refused to leave without the fish. She left before they got there though. In a way, I’m glad I wasn’t there because I might’ve done something to get me arrested. As I said, Mandy is the sweetest and the minute I heard someone made her cry, I wanted to punch something. All the crazy stuff seems to go down when I’m on my lunch break.

I took it so personally when the customer screamed at me for messing something up, which made me more nervous so I started to mess it up even more. I just wanted to cry but I had to keep my head up. Not even joking, when I had a bad day where a customer screamed at me for doing something wrong I just wanted to end my life because I thought I couldn't handle life.
Now that I've grown older I never take it personally anymore. I still make errors but if a customer gets mad at me I will just put a smile on my face and say "You're completely right, I will fix it for you :)" and laugh it off (and most of my errors are small ones, no reason to scream like I just killed one of ur family members lmao)

I remember one time when I used to work at a pizza shop and.... it was actually my last day of work so it really sucked but everything seemed to go to hell that evening. You can place online orders as well as over the phone orders and even though my manager told the employees to not take anymore phone orders, there was the one girl who kept answering the phone anyways (why? I don’t know) and there were 8 online orders that came in at the same time, and then our regular oven broke so they had to use the backup oven which cooks 2x less the amount of food at a slower rate and not to mention our floor was *full* and to add to all that one of our delivery drivers and one of our kitchen workers called out that evening. All that combined made for a 2 hour wait time that the cashiers weren’t informed of until an hour after that wait time applied to orders. It sucked for the customers as well the employees. Thankfully most of the customers were super generous and some of them even gave some pity tips *but* there was this one table that had two ladies that would. not. let it. go. They were offered a full refund, we gave them so many apologies, but they kept coming to the counter and telling us how terribly we disappointed them and let them down by having the food take so long (as if any of us could have fixed it) and they even stopped our dishwasher who came out from the back to get more dishes to wash to tell him what happened and how they are in absolute despair bc of their dining experience. All of us cashiers listened to them and just kept apologizing but the dishwasher *hated* how those ladies kept treating us so he politely told her off and it made me so happy. I don’t remember exactly what he said but it went along the lines of “I don’t know what more you can expect us to do for you right now. We’ve listened to your complaints, we’ve done what we can to fix the issue. All you’re doing by continuing to talk to our employees is slow us down in our work which will only make things take longer.”
That was an awful night (I’m just thankful I don’t have that job anymore)

I worked for Taco Bell, and a similar thing happened to one of my coworkers who was also a young girl, and I did my best to keep quiet and stay out of the situation. However, my manager stood up for my coworker and told this woman who was being rude to my coworker, “get the F out of my restaurant! You gonna be rude like that to my workers over a simple mistake, you can get the F out of here!”
Needless to say, our boss was our hero that say. My coworker was happy that our manager was willing to stand up for her, and I ran around the corner because I was trying so hard not to laugh at the customer’s shocked and intimidated expression.
EDIT: In case you’re wondering why I was laughing, it’s because I thought this customer was going to get away with being rude and making my coworker upset, but then things changed when my manager came out of nowhere and basically told her to screw off. XD

When I worked at subway a few weeks ago I joined cause I liked the food, the people were always nice, etc. I have really bad social anxiety and I thought maybe it’d help me get out of my shell, which it did but then again I have no problem talking to people in a professional way, makes me feel like we share a mutual respect for each other and I’m not just looked down at for being a sixteen year old working their first job ever. So I had no problem with the customers they were always very kind to me and understood I was new. It was my manager that was the real problem, the first day she was supposed to teach me where things were and give me the lowdown on working the veggie area. Cause her we learn the stuff in the back first, then the vegges, meats, and then cash register. Instead she left early leaving me alone with my other coworkers, forcing them to teach me(keep in mind she scheduled my shift to cover someone who had stopped coming to work, then he ended up showing up the day I did so I was already a flustered and stressed mess) anyway my other coworkers were pissed at her for leaving me, and leaving them to teach me. In short terms I ended up running cashier my first day and was so stressed I wasn’t going to total up people right that I actually cried in the car with my mom on the way home. I have no hate for my ex-coworkers they did an awesome job trying to teach me and were very kind about everything.(-the fact I thought they expected me to know everything I was doing on the third day even tho I hadn’t even learned the meats yet) other than that I do miss them after quitting but it was definitely not worth the stress the job put me through, I haven’t stepped foot in said subway since. I’m just to ashamed to do so… feels like I did something wrong by quitting. I did make a little over $200 in three days tho 😄

Poor Sarah. I know how that might feel. Story time, feel free to skip it:
So a KFC opened in my town about (holy heck) 6 months ago and I was part of the OG team. All of us were kind of beginners, and despite our managers telling the people multiple times not to stand in the line but order ahead and pick it up, they were there anyway, not listening. I was working there for about 3 weeks when we officially opened, training was in another joint in another city.
None of us was used to that kind of crowd and I was scheduled to close service alone. That was already a stress factor, I was so afraid of cleaning the deep frier, because knowing I was clumsy as all Hell with a short memory I would mess up and burn myself. And to that pressure came the rush and the orders being 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour late. And I lost contact with reality for I don't even know how long. All I remembered was sobbing, trying to work fast as possible, the pressure sinking in more and more, and the next thing I know is that I'm sobbing, coughing, wheezing and holding onto the work bench for dear life. One of the managers led me away to the fitting room to help me calm down.
