Thank you for this video. I live in a rental. My "pantry" is a cabinet my coworker gave me for free. I made a makeshift "island" to have more cabinet and counter space. It's easy to organize your kitchen if you have a giant home. But most of us are just trying to work with what we've got. 😆

I’ve had the big kitchen with negative space around each item in the cupboards, the gorgeous pot rack, several sets of photo-ready dinnerware, and everything grab-and-go. That is a different world from tiny kitchen living. My Visions cookware is stacked in a deep drawer so the pot I need might be on the bottom and I have to take everything out to get to it. There is no grab-and-go! We use Corelle dishes now because they stack well, they’re clean with no potentially toxic glazes, and they’re lightweight but durable. Almost all of our cast iron and All-Clad was left in storage but one saucepot hangs on a hook and three pieces are stowed in the oven, and that means things have to go *somewhere* when I use the oven. It ain’t pretty! But it’s clean and functional. I now want to have a purely functional kitchen when we eventually settle down and build our small home. Kallie, you've got some great ideas & tools to get a kitchen organized well. Here's one little thing I like to do. For my spices,I like to sort them between sweet & savory. If I'm baking, I know which group they're in, & the same for general cooking. My favorite item you showed was the skillet organizer! It's perfect for any kitchen, big or small!
I do the same with my spices. They are kept in a drawer so I use multi-colored labels to write and stick on the tops of the spice jars to make it easy to just look down and see what each one is without pulling them out. They are grouped by color. Pink labels on the “sweet” spices, orange on the hot/spicy ones, green on the herbs and yellow on the blends (Old Bay, herbs de Provence etc.). This would also work well with a rectangular plastic basket on a shelf.
Interesting. I have two bins for my spices. The ones I Mos commonly use, and the ones I less commonly use. I don't have the time to buy and label and fill up a ton of spice bottles that don't hold all the spice anyway so the bins work just for for me. And I usually remember what the bag looks like anyway.
My mom does this! (To put things in context, I'm living with my parents.) We have a ton of spices, etc between the two of us, and it really is a must to separate, just so you can find anything.
I subscribed to you in the first 1:12 mins because this IS what I am looking for! I want practical hacks, tips and ways for my life. I would only find myself less than happy with my kitchen overall watching the glamour kitchens. I appreciate your transparency. Now, on to watching you....
Thank you!! The frustration of organizing small kitchens is real! It’s hard to find space for everything!! I live in an apartment, so thank you for these tips!!
You said reckon AND you're listening to Nitty Gritty Dirt Band 😄🙌. I have 2 kitchens I'm helping people organize and I feel like you always know about the best stuff for this. 😁
You my dear are one of my favorite people to get motivated and have used so many of your tricks. You are like a friend I would Love to have as my neighbor. Keep going strong. much care from CT.
I have a funny story about that song...I was away visiting my Mom in Newfoundland, and my husband was hanging out with his family while I was gone...we are a musical bunch and had jam sessions together all the time, and Fishin In The Dark was a song I loved to do...well....they all started playing the song, and BOOM, the power went out!! I said that's what you get for playing my song without me 😁
I’m having a house built and I custom the island in that green and got so much flack from family. Makes me feel SO good to see even 1 other person loving that colour in a kitchen. Much ❤️
Normal kitchen 💕 for the win. Darker green on right. Thanks. (I discovered that I can listen to UA-cam while driving. If I like or am curious I go and rewatch when I get where I was going ❤️.)
As simple as it was I loved that you used command hooks to hang baskets on the inside of cabinet doors. This will be my next project as I have struggled to find a little hack as simple as this to clean up underneath my kitchen and bathroom sinks. Thank you Kallie! 💝
Some great ideas in here that I plan to pass on to my daughter who lives in an apartment. You will love your new kitchen...we bought a 70's house about 5 years ago and 3 years ago we renovated the kitchen into my dream kitchen. I still get all the feels when I'm in my kitchen and I feel so blessed! I went from no pantry to a nice sized cabinet style pantry which is my favorite thing but my 2nd favorite thing is pull out drawers for my lower cabinets. This is amazing, because you can see EVERYTHING at a glance when you open it, making it soooo easy to stay organized...highly recommend! Thanks for sharing your tips! 🙂
I love looking at those Instagram pics, but it’s so much more helpful to see kitchens and ideas like yours which work in the condo standard kitchen I have.
I got expandable drawer dividers and liked them, but wanted lots more so I cut up cardboard boxes, folded them over and made them about 3-4 inched too long so I could fold the ends to opposite directions and tape them to the inside of the drawers. Custom fit, and can be cute if you use colored cereal boxes or top with colored tape.
Yes this is exactly what I needed to watch for my home. I am working on decluttering my home. I have an old kitchen, and the cabinets are old. I am excited turn my coat closet into a pantry. I hope you and your family have a great week!
Thanks for acknowledging our "Normal Kitchens!"👀 Perhaps, you can help your family & friends with their normal kitchens too! We need more of this!!♥️♥️
3 things: 1. My kitchen is new but it doesn't have many drawers or adjustable shelfs like the new, modern, fancy kitchens do since is an inexpensive model that came with the house- so these tips helped a lot. 2. A lot of people on YT are talking about stocking up on food before "Hyperinflation", what do you think about that, or how do you handle it with a smaller space??? 3. I also love the tier organizers, but I as well can't help thinking about the wasted space underneath. Love your tips, thank you!😊💕
Thank you for being realistic and showing organization tips for a "normal" kitchen! My house was built in 1937 and I often get discouraged because my organization systems fall apart due to a less than functional kitchen. Hopefully, I can implement a few of these tricks and keep it neater. Also, thank you for always giving tips that are financially feasible. Love your channel! 😊
Love this, super practical. I have a similar lid organizer, and they hold up better when the lids are upside down (handles go into the little notches).
First of all, your videos are so well made - straight to the point, very simple and clear. It focuses on the objective and what really matters. Please know that it’s very much appreciated and enjoyed. 👌🏽 I’ve realized that simplifying a kitchen and making things practical are always a win. I love my small kitchen and have maximized just about every space to make the most of it. The good thing about that is that everything is within reach pretty closely and it makes keeping things tidy a lot easier. When I was younger, cooking used to intimidate me. Now while I prepare food, I enjoy listening to music, a good book, a great interview, or a discussion on a topic that is new or I’m unfamiliar with. Sometimes I’ll even make myself a drink and enjoy as I food prep. I never imagined how much joy would come from things done in the simplest ways. Over all all, I can feel intention in the content of your videos and that is such a beautiful energy. Much respect and thank you for that. You’re such beautiful human, with a beautiful family, creating beautiful things in such a beautiful space. ❤️ Gracias. 🙏🏽
Even though this video is a year old, I have to say as for the green on the cabinets, for me the darker the better. I refreshed my kitchen and painted cabinets Benjamin Moore Salamander. Sooo dark and beautiful.
Moving into a small apartment soon and I started binging your older videos for maximizing and organizing in a small space! This video came out just in time😊
The Nitty Gritty Dirt band, Fishin' in the Dark. Saw them in concert 2 yrs ago with Diamond Rio! I'm old, lol (48), so I grew up on their music. They don't make good country music like that anymore! Thanks for the kitchen tips.
My kitchen is original from 1972, so I definitely feel your pain on the quirky cabinets LOL. I don’t have adjustable shelves, but shelf risers are a game changer for me. I also ended up getting the most minimal stackable set of cookware that I could get, since we were replacing our old set. I actually own that same silverware organizer and absolutely love it, and now you have me thinking about buying a second one to organize things like peelers and mixer beaters and things like that, the little things that can get lost in a regular utensil drawer sometimes. We use bins everywhere in our kitchen, and they’re especially great in the lower cabinets and also in weird, awkward corners. One other important thing that a lot of people forget is to measure before they buy containers, because it helps to really maximize the space that you have, especially if you do have a smaller kitchen without a ton of storage. It’s amazing what an extra inch or two of storage in a cabinet can do!
Whenever I have a cupboard with heavy and/or metal things which could mar the surface while taking them in and out of the cupboard, I line it with the IKEA Komplement drawer liners. It's gray felt made from polyester, and is really stiff, so it holds its shape. Items glide so much smoother when getting them in and out of the cupboards, and if you use them, you never have to worry about scratching the surface. I love them to pieces and wanted to share the idea!
I subscribed to you channel because you are relatable and practical while organizing a middle class home. I live in an ordinary middle class suburb. I think you have a lot of great ideas. If we think about homes worldwide, most people are living in middle or lower end homes, and those people want to make their spaces organized, clean and attractive so I don't understand why so many channels try to show us only high end home organization. Anyway, you have a good channel, and I think you seem sweet and genuine. :)
I live in a rural area, not a lot of rentals, especially for a retired person on a tight fixed income. So when I found a smaller older (1970) mobile home (with a small addition and a separate garage on a nice piece of land so I could could have a small garden) that a friend from church owned and that I could afford, I rented it. The kitchen is pretty sad, old particle wood cabinets and drawers that wood would sliver off and make the drawers always look dirty because of the woods bits. My son built a bank of small drawers and added a couple cabinets which made a huge storage difference but the kitchen storage is still hugely lacking. I really appreciate storage ideas for normal kitchens. My kitchen isn't quite "normal", no adjustable shelves, no pantry, etc, but any ideas for storage are helpful! Thanks!!
OMG you are spot on here in northern California I live in the heart of the Silicon Valley and I have never had a new kitchen like all those youtube kitchens LOL LOL but as we speak we are in the middle of a full house renovation for the first time in my live we are finally empty nesters and can do what we want in our fifties !!! It is so refreshing to watch your realistic life ideas love your content !!
great tips, I've used the clear bins for 20 years now, mostly because I don't have any extra drawers in my small kitchen ( 2 in the sink area and another I added) and so it keeps things contained and also the things inside don't get dusty or greasy from cooking, and if it does those bins just need a wipe down on the outside. I see a lot of people pouring out boxes into glass or baskets, looks cool when they're full, but those baskets always take up the same area, full, half full or empty, same with the jars, I have glass ones since 1999 I think as I moved into a dorm and there was mice evidence. Never seen them and I think they ran when I moved in with my cats, but glass since then works great for pasta and rice for sure
the thing about you Kalie is that you are very relatable and you are giving a lot of practical real life tips and actually also very mentally and emotionally liberating because a lot of your advices is something that most of us need to do to free ourselves from insecurities, stress and anxiety.
Our house was built in the 30s, too! They cared nothing about kitchen or bathroom sizes back then. And when a previous owner put in a dishwasher, they took out what was the biggest cupboard set. Add to that two owners who are crappy organizers, and, viola, disaster area! Probably ought to watch this twice…
Had my kitchen cabinets repainted a couple months ago from dark finished wood to white. Just FYI, you might consider using the dark green as an accent & not on all the cabinets. It later may feel too dark. I have a kitchen about the size of yours. Oh… and I got a pan organizer at a big box store & to my dismay not all my cast iron fits in it. Yours looks like the spaces are wider. Love your organization vids & all your hacks. Thanks!
Oh wow! Congratulations on your beautiful home. Thank you so much for your videos!!! My mother is a hoarder. Not exaggerating, I couldn’t see my floors. So your videos are truly educational because my husband WILL Never let me slip lol so thank you for your clever relatability and organizational skills. You’re amazing!
Great tips. Houses in the UK are usually a lot smaller than US houses, especially kitchens & we also don't have a pantry, so these tips were really useful. I still have to remember that in the US a bin is a container, whereas in the UK it's something we put rubbish into.
My nanna's one bed flat in the UK had a small kitchen with a large pantry cupboard. I think it used to be normal but I'm not sure when/why people stopped wanting a proper walk-in pantry.
@@nataliebutler proper? Lol. Being able to shop on a regular basis means we don't have to own as much food. And owning less space means less cleaning. On the other hand, if having lots of food is your thing, you can buy a cabinet or two and put them in the next room.
@@nataliebutler lol. Some uneducated person came along and tried to tell me that there is only one exact meaning to a word. Meanwhile, that sake uneducated person ignored the whole rest of my comment. Technology has it good points. Interactive social media isn't one of them.
@@johnclaybaugh9536 that's the literal definition, hence why I said a 'proper' pantry. I didn't bother to respond to the rest because it's not the case actually. No need to be rude when someone takes the time to reply to your uneducated comments.
I live in an older mobile home with a very imperfect kitchen. We also tend to buy in bulk, which is a challenge when your cupboard space is limited. Our solution? We literally "thought outside the box"! We simply expanded into other rooms. My husband and I need to sleep in separate rooms because he's a light sleeper, so I have the master all to myself, a much bigger room than I need. It comes directly off the kitchen, so we put shelves in the room to turn part of it into a pantry! I simply used some furniture to section off part of the room to be my bedroom, and much of the rest is an extension of the kitchen. So this is an alternative for those who struggle with inadequate kitchens. If you have extra space in another nearby room, consider repurposing it to be an extension of the kitchen. :)
Very helpful. I'm soon moving into my childhood home which was built in 1940. The very small kitchen is exactly like it was in 1953 including all the appliances. And they all still work! So my husband and I have decided not to rip out and expand the kitchen as we are both now retired and can use that money for something else. We are keeping the old appliances, especially the mint green wall oven, until they die. We're keeping the original cabinets but painting the cabinet frames white and staining the flat front cabinet drawers walnut in keeping with the retro vibe and brighten the space. We may replace the counter tops and sink. So it's time to plan on working with what we have (which we are grateful for having). All your excellent tips can be utilized in our tiny quirky kitchen. I'm actually very excited to implement these strategies. It will make a big difference. Thank you.

When it comes to pot lids, I put them all into a plastic basket big enough to hold them all and keep it in the bottom of the cupboard. Been doing this for years and it works like a charm!

I also just received my order of very similar bamboo drawer dividers for the kitchen but I haven’t installed them yet. Thanks for always having the most realistic/more relatable content. Great video. The storage in my 1950’s kitchen is plentiful but not specific like the new kitchens. One of the best organizers I found for my sheet pans was a chrome cutting board/bakeware organizer I bought from LTD Commodities. I bought two. Now my sheet pans no longer lay on top of each other, which is a pain when trying to pull out one of the bottom ones. Now they are on their side and easy to grab and to get to. Your videos have gotten me so organized. Thank you!
We have renovated two kitchens! Yes, it is a lot of work, but when you get to design what works exactly for you and piece it together like a personal puzzle, it really is so much fun! Best of luck in that endeavor! It’s is so worth it! 🥰
I have a small kitchen and you have some good tips. I hope to see more of your small home spaces. Like the bathroom !!!! I don't even have a shelf in the under the sink cabinet and no drawers
I have really appreciated your tips on cupboard door organization. The kitchen in this house has considerably less storage than our tiny 100 year old bungalow did back east. I bought the Dollar Tree command hooks several different sizes and attached the Dollar Tree trays to the inside of our cupboards, and walls of our pantry. We both cook and bake, so no way to declutter spices and baking items. But, unused small kitchen appliances and tools are donated!! Thanks for all the great suggestions. 👍

$150k for 4BR 1Bath? Damn, our garage cost more than that. Guess you're not living in an expensive place.
Hi, suggestion. Put your lids ON the matching saucepan. Just 'turn the lid upside down'. It takes up no extra space 😁 you're welcome 🤠
I recently started storing my pots that way! No more scratched pots!!! Plus they look prettier!
That doesn’t work for my pot set. The lids are curved so they slip and slide and cause more harm then good LOL
Also a lot of stores sell felt covers to stack pots without scratching tgem

Great tips! I really like the idea of color coding the groups!
My mom does this! (To put things in context, I'm living with my parents.) We have a ton of spices, etc between the two of us, and it really is a must to separate, just so you can find anything.
I do that too.
I found a great lid organizer that stacks/angled on a wall, works for me
I love those real-wooden kitchens!!
♡
Once they will all be gone..
LOVE THE NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND!
My friend used a drying rack for her pot and pan lids, the thing is loaded! Love it and it is super easy/organized!
Great. I will try this.
Much ❤️
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band! That is one of my favorite songs. Thank you for your videos! They are informative, entertaining, and REAL. ❤️
Love this as someone who lives in NYC and has always had small and oddly arranged kitchens!
My kitchen is a small “normal” galley style. Your tips are very helpful.
I never heard anybody break down bins/baskets so well. The use/function of them. ❤️🔥
I love those vintage cabinets!!!!! Probably not great for storage, but loaded with character; at least it happens to be my taste.
I am amazed at the fact of how many vids u have made that resemble my life
You are so right with paper in the kitchen
I love looking at those Instagram pics,
but it’s so much more helpful to see kitchens and ideas like yours which work in the condo standard kitchen I have.
Recently found that utensil holder at TJ Max for a steal. I can fit our flatware in about half as much space as before
I got expandable drawer dividers and liked them, but wanted lots more so I cut up cardboard boxes, folded them over and made them about 3-4 inched too long so I could fold the ends to opposite directions and tape them to the inside of the drawers.
I turned my coat closet into a pantry! I'm so grateful for the space.
We did this as well, worth it!
Thanks for acknowledging our "Normal Kitchens!"👀 Perhaps, you can help your family & friends with their normal kitchens too! We need more of this!!♥️♥️
3 things:
I find small clear stacking boxes invaluable-no need to label and great on shelves inside cupboards
First of all, your videos are so well made - straight to the point, very simple and clear. It focuses on the objective and what really matters. Please know that it’s very much appreciated and enjoyed. 👌🏽
I’ve realized that simplifying a kitchen and making things practical are always a win.
Just turned 46, here. We're not old, we're just seasoned! I, too, love that good ole classic country stuff that I grew up not knowing I loved!
You are telling the truth and you are real out here . We identify with realistic homes . Love 💕 thank you for showing us out here the real .
Great choice on the song!!❤
I love these kinds of videos. I actually just organized some of my kitchen cabinets.
I also have recently found a pan stacker for my cast iron. Love it
I just discovered your channel. You are the Holy Grail of UA-camrs!!! Thank you so much for your great ideas and for being here!!!!
Agree on the green. The darker one
great tips, I've used the clear bins for 20 years now, mostly because I don't have any extra drawers in my small kitchen ( 2 in the sink area and another I added) and so it keeps things contained and also the things inside don't get dusty or greasy from cooking, and if it does those bins just need a wipe down on the outside.
“Fishing in the Dark” Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Loving this song! 😃
Thanks!
Omg!!! Thank You!!! I’m not the only that has cabinets that look like that. Definitely inspired me to straighten up my kitchen.
I agree. Tips for standard kitchens would be helpful, since it helps with organizing even if others have elaborate kitchens.
👍👏👏👏thank you you are right I always find videos made in big houses and that is like out of reach for me so I loved your video
Omigosh that’s my favorite song!! Also, I have the larger version of the pot organizer, and it has been a Godsend!! Love your videos! 💕💕
Love you’re style, you’re so down to earth. It make’s people like me enjoy watching you. Ty for sharing your tips, I know they do work.❤️
I feel so calm when I watch your organize and declutter videos.
Thank you for being nice and relatable! Love your vids 😊
@@johnclaybaugh9536 yes, a pantry is a walk in space. It's not a cupboard on the wall as some Americans use the word.
Yesssss! Fishin in the dark! I don’t know why I didn’t figure you for a country fan.
Thank you.
I did enjoy this video....lots of ideas...not the 1st video I've watched of yours...I have two kitchen...older house... rearranging some things....I didn't even know of all these containers see through....I'm a little on the shot side it's nice to see... thanks
When it comes to pot lids, I put them all into a plastic basket big enough to hold them all and keep it in the bottom of the cupboard. Been doing this for years and it works like a charm!
Me too I have a lid organizer in a plastic bin
I just ran across your site today for the first time. Very cute and good ideas. My mom always said “A place for everything and everything in its place”. Great advice! ❤️fromTX
try turning the pan lid organizer horizontal rather than vertical. I have one like that and it isn't flimsy If you lay it flat. works great for me!
The inside of doors is great for the lids. A couple of command hooks placed on an angle work wonderfully.
👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you! Some organization videos are like, "That's cool, but I don't have a gorgeous bathroom/kitchen like that......"
I literally just bought and installed the exact same white drawer dividers in my daughter’s dresser last week! I also just received my order of very similar bamboo drawer dividers for the kitchen but I haven’t installed them yet. Thanks for always having the most realistic/more relatable content. You’re great!
Try using the lid organizer to that the side facing the back of the cabinet is on the flat surface. Then lids may be able to stand.
Helping in normal places is great! Thanks!
Left green💚
I have really appreciated your tips on cupboard door organization. The kitchen in this house has considerably less storage than our tiny 100 year old bungalow did back east. I bought the Dollar Tree command hooks several different sizes and attached the Dollar Tree trays to the inside of our cupboards, and walls of our pantry. We both cook and bake, so no way to declutter spices and baking items. But, unused small kitchen appliances and tools are donated!! Thanks for all the great suggestions. 👍
