I have one- don’t throw away those plastic zippered bags that sheets and comforters come in. The smaller ones are great to use to store makeup or as a travel toiletry kits, the big comforter ones can be used to store basically anything from toys to seasonal storage like wreaths! They’re waterproof and many of them have handles so they’re sturdy, useful bags!
I do the same! Great for travel and small storage. Used some this year to separate each grand child's Christmas stocking contents when packing to fly. That way TSA could see the contents.
I also use them when we go away on a snorkling trip to tote wet towels/swimsuits OR it's just a good waterproof bag inside of my tote to keep wallet, phone, etc things dry.
These are great! I only have one caveat. As someone who knows a lot about pest control, roaches are attracted to cardboard. So if someone already has an infestation they do not want to keep boxes in the house. Particularly the shipping boxes as they use a glue that roaches love to eat.
I agree! In these times of crazy grocery prices, we can't afford to spend extra money, even at a dollar store. I love the satisfaction of turning recycling into something functional.
Agreed! DT is great but even those items add up quickly. And I definitely can’t use another Amazon shopping list that everyone seems to be doing. There are plenty of variations of upcycling plastic and cardboard storage, organization, and even decorative containers- it’s great to see what actually works for someone in real life! ❤
Ive used my lysol wipes containers for shopping bag dispensers. A small one is handy in the car for a back up if ive forgotten my reusable bags for aldi as well as for trash bags. Putting one next to my small trash containers in the bathroom and next to my craft table works well too. Loved all your ideas!😊
Yeah, I use clothes pins alot. ALSO - sometimes I will buy a grocery store item that is in the size glass container I need (especially large) and once the product is used up, clean the container and repurpose it.
Thanks. Also the foil and saran wrap boxes are great organizers. Work well for taper candles. Kleenex boxes can be good sorters and dividers. Just fold tops over after cutting at an angle to each corners, staple for increased stability. Old Calendar pages make great covers for decorating boxes and as shelf liners. The list is endless. The smaller boxes as in your videos work great for pill bottles etc. My sweet creative mom would do this all of the time. Cereal boxes for magazines and other booklets. She also poked holes in tops of oatmeal containers to hold all of her paintbrushes. I use plain sides of old business cards for labels and the stiffer ads on card stock as well. Colored envelopes make great crafting paper for making flowers. If you buy any premade cakes , from grocery top rectangular portions turned upside down are really nice for storing bathroom items that may leak. Bottoms are great to set indoor plants on. Mushroom containers are also good for drawers. Sorry, I kind of got carried away. Think outside of the box. 😊. Recycle repurpose reuse.
This was one of your most fun videos. As a mom of 26 and 28-year-olds, I don’t need as much storage, but when they were younger, I used practically every idea that you demonstrated, except for the sponge holder. I also cover myboxes with Contact paper. I covered an Amazon box and I keep it in my car to hold all of my shopping bags. It fits right behind my driver seat and everything is neat and tidy.
Kallie, this is my absolute fav organizing hack video EVER!!! I started my day watching a video of how to keep your house neat on a budget and it was so excruciating unrealistic. We all tend to think we need expensive stuff to organize, and voila, all you need is creativity 😊 Thanks for that!!!❤
As I was growing up (in the 60's) my mom always used bottoms of sturdy boxes for storage containers. She still has one by her chair holding her recipe cards (old ones from the 50's thru 70's)
I could want 80 hours of this type of video while doing 0% of them (because I just know myself...no more fantasy self around crafty things.) They are like visual ASMR for granddaughters of depression era grandmas! :)
My favorite was the plastic bag dispenser. You made it look easy, quick, and doable. Most of the videos I've seen show them being straightened out and folded just so. I know me well enough to know that I am not going to fold and smooth 50 bags, lol. I love these types of videos, thank you!
Kallie, wow. You had me at "totally free", it's seriously one of my favourite videos of yours. I just watched someone's video where they told us to spend like $75 on clear plastic organizer bins from the dollar store, and then buy labels for them. Plus, yours had so many original ideas: my empty shampoo bottle is now my kitchen sponge holder.
Thank you so much for this video! With times being so hard right now on so many people this video really helps people that still want to be organized but can't really afford expensive organization products!! ❤❤
The military sock roll. 30 plus years ago I would watch my husband pack his sea bags for deployment, and they were taught the most compact way to fold everything. Not only for deploying, but also for inspections during boot camp. I learned so much from watching his military hacks. As a kid and teen the cardboard boxes were my favorite for doing my bedroom. My mom always had lleftover wallpaper on the rolls hanging around, so I would cover them with the wallpaper, so they would look nice. Definitely some great organizing ideas on a tight budget.
On the paper bag baskets, it is stronger if you just do 2 opposite corners. They’re also super great for organising the veg in your fridge because they can change shape a little to accommodate very not rectangular shapes most produce is, and it can help them not go mouldy by not keeping the moisture in
I always hated rolling up my socks, it always felt like they took up so much space. What I started doing was simply laying out each pair, and then folding over once and storing them that way. It just works so much better for me.
Brilliant ideas! Thank you so much! I would caution everyone to seal the edges of corrugated cardboard boxes with duck tape before you use them. Unfortunately, roaches often like to lay their eggs between the layers while they're stored in the factory, and you might be bringing pests into the house if you keep a lot of those cardboard boxes.
Great vid - these are actually hacks (i.e. you hacked something up and made something new.) This is the kind of creative thinking that we need right now. Thank you!
I'm a missionary and you just helped me so much!!! I want a cute space but don't have the $$ to buy things but this video 🔥 I looked at this more than 3 times. Thank you
These are all great. -my grandma was always taking boxes and covering them with scrapes of material to make them pretty. She was always saying oh that box would make … I still have one. The best would be if you had a lid. I find myself thinking the same way -that box could be used as… thanks again - keep sharing
If there were multiple like buttons I would click them all! Great ideas. I think ths is especially useful when just starting out. Because when you declutter, you may find you do not need as many or you need different sizes of containers. Organizing videos that show using Container Store products are unrealistic for most of us.
I can see this being helpful if you're just starting out, but wait until you've collected several decades worth of stuff. I can't wait to use her ideas to get my stuff organized.
Great ideas. Thanks for sharing your amazing creativity! We don't have as many plastic bags here in Canada since they're banned, but just thought that an empty tissue box would also work as a plastic bag dispenser.
That's what I use. One in car, one in house and extra one to donate to thrift store or apartment community center. Good on places that eliminated them, but the only ones I throw away are ripped ones. 😂
For the paper basket- you can even reinforce that by gluing cardboard to the bottom of it and then putting twine all the way around it or spray painting it just so it looks cohesive and then twine half of the bag. *IF* you want to keep the no cost theme and you already have the stuff on hand. Use what you got. It'll be more sturdier.
I LOVE THE OPEN CARDBOARD STORAGE BOX!!! I’m totally going to do that to reorganize my pantry! I did swoon over the clear organizing bins but I don’t got that kinda ca$h, but those are so cute and easy to label! Thank you!🎉
Wonderful video, great ideas. I love it. I want to make the cereal box dividers but I am going to cover the edges with some thick tape from dollar store because I always get bad paper cuts from the edges of cardboard so I want to protect my hands. Plus I think you can pick out nice colors of duct tape to make it look pretty. Thanks for the ideas!! ❤
I do something similar for plastic bag storage. I used an empty tissue box - the rectangular shape - and used the same technique to loop the plastic bags together. There's no creating a box since it already has the right size opening, and most are already decorative so they look nice without a craft project at all. Since I use these for small garbage bags, I do a quick look at each bag against a light source to check for holes before putting them in my container to avoid a mess in the bottom of my small garbage can. I think there are at least 25 bags in mine. Note: the bags with small holes are in another container to be used in my paper shredder or other "dry" wastebaskets to make disposal for that mess much easier.
I do this, and use clothes pins to hold bag at top of trashcan so it doesn't slip down. Sometimes I use a holey bag inside a good one to make it sturdier. 😊
I have saved kleenex boxes because of pretty designs. I tried the sock folding during coffee break but instead of tucking the sock in at the end i am going to keep them loose❤ but it is definitely saving room!! I made the paper bag storage and placed some boxes of tea in it. ❤ when i come across some clothespins i am definitely going to post a recipe i need to make. ❤
A couple of years ago I started rolling socks and storing them vertically in the drawer (a la Marie Kondo). I bought a honeycomb drawer organizer (dang) like the one Kallie makes here out of cardboard for free. I can see all my socks at a glance now. It's a great method.
I’m so loving all your videos! You have so many useful ideas. Here’s another way to store/use baggies: just open one end of the box and tear off all the tabs - or just fold the tabs inward for a stronger edge. Then you can store the box full of baggies standing up on the one end and pull out what you need from the top.
You're brilliant! I liked this video as much for a way to keep boxes and bottles out of the recycling as I did for the organizational part. I am always wishing I knew more ways to use things up instead of tossing them out.
In my first apartment i used empty food boxes to create risers for my spices stored in a cabinet. My pantry has wire shelves, so i still have a few shelves lines with cardboard to make it easier to place cans, etc on those open shelves.
Great ideas! I have used tissue boxes for plastic container lids, feminine pads, nail polish and accessories. I use the cube tissue boxes for my spare eyeglasses, pens, emery boards, flashlight etc. Next to my bed, I use a pretty gift bag as a trash bag. Also, empty oatmeal containers with empty bread bags as liners make handy trash cans. When my boys were in diapers I used an oatmeal container to hold the bag open and placed the used diapers inside pulled out the bag, tied them up, no mess, no smell.
Shoe boxes. They come in different sizes and shapes, especially if you have kids growing up. They can fit inside drawers, behind closed doors. In a pinch add decorative adhesive paper if you need some to display. The fruit comes in this plastic see through container enveloped in more plastic. I keep some of these containers. Good to help separate fruit in the fridge or in my fruit shelves. Can also work inside drawers if they are on the sturdy side or put 2 or 3 together for added resistance.
I think with the 1st one, you might be able to also spray paint the bag if you had any on hand, if you wanted to. Just a thought 😊 love your ideas Kallie!
I'm so glad you shared this w us! So many of us, including myself, have been brainwashed to believe that having something thts expensive or told that something is better that looks a certain way whn if it's all about being organized it really shouldn't matter, especially if we're only ones thts seeing it mostly 😂 and if we have friends/family complain about how it looks cheap thn they can leave or go and buy the exspensive stuff for me 🤷♀️🤪😁🤣😂
I keep the hard board pretty white boxes electronics come in. They are perfect inside cabinets & drawers and take very little time to up cycle. Spaghetti sauce jars which have measurements on them I keep & paint the lids, anything I store in the garage goes in upcycled boxes, and these are all great ideas you have.
I think some of these were great. I liked the labels for the tops of spices. Many of the other things were extra work to do and use. The way you fold your socks is more time-consuming for both. Years ago I worked for a maid service that taught me to just put one sock inside the other it doesn't stretch the other sock it doesn't take much time, and the socks stay in pairs. The tiny hole from the baby wipe container would make me frustrated very quickly. I also don't know why is want to decant my salt. If you want it to look "pretty " you could wrap it in pretty paper. I can't imagine having the job of trying to find new content to post. I applaud your success. One thing I learned from an organizer(I don't remember who) is to use long trays in the fridge. They help you reach things in the back more easily and if you have a sticky bottle that someone put back in the fridge it's easy to just clean the one container than try to pull out a bunch of bottles to clean the shelf. I save a lot of space in the fridge by using them . I also keep my fridge more organized that way. I have a wide container that is my cheese "drawer" and another that holds cooked or processed meats. I also like to store my produce in the door of the fridge, so I'm reminded to use it.
I reuse shipping boxes and made my own trays for the junk drawer. It’s so organized now. And things get put back. I used boxes, glue, masking tape and some craft paper that is usually in the shipping boxes. There are great in depth videos here. If I find them, I will edit later.
On socks, someone (marie kondo?) said any kind of balling or folding puts extra strain on the elastic. I buy expensive socks with the hopes of having them many many years. I file fold the socks and arrange vertically. I love being able to choose exactly the ones I want and not make a mess in the drawer. Long ones I fold the heel part to the calf part and either roll up or fold a few times.
Kallie! I LOVE that you’re using literal trash. This is my favorite. Poland springs 2.5 gallon (w the spout) are great for high shelf storage. Turn the spout side upright and cut that whole end off and now you have a sturdy open bin with a handle. Also that box you made for books is great. You can ask the produce people at Trader Joe’s for boxes, particularly the single pepper boxes If you like that size. PS I do that same thing with tea boxes😂❤
Word of caution about cardboard. Doesnt hold up well to moisture and also draws bugs. But this is a great temporary solution to mock up an arrangement of sorters etc, see if it works for you, play with the configuration. If you like something you made from recyclables, then it may be fine, or upgrade with more decoratvie when you get a chance. Reusing containers is a great idea! I cut the top off some 2L and single serve soda bottles and made a set of funnels. You can even melt a quarter inch hole in one of the lids to those bottles and have a spice funnel. I save nutella and mayonnaise jars, coffee cans, peanut butter jars, glass jars from pasta sauce, bottles from liquid coffee creamer, quart size yogurt containers for tupperware. I decanted all my spices into upcycled parm shakers, i have a set of ten including blends of things i always use together like homeade taco seasoning, and a very versatile combo of onion p\garlic p\celery seed. They fit in a drawer with a bunch of other stuff. I really really simplified my spices, i know what i reach for all the time and use condiments and aromatics to extend ,y spice arsenal. When you do start investing keep it simple. Simple shapes, 2 or 3 sizes, same or similar containers that mix and match for different purposes and can be moved around the house. One of my fav containers is the humble dishpan and or litter box tray. They can be placed in lower cabinets or on any shelf to make "drawers" so your stuff doesnt get lost in the back. They can also be used to sort toys and kids stuff, bathroom stuff, pantry items, office supplies and art supplies.
Thank you so much for your videos. I love this one! I have cut boxes + covered with contact paper. I also have cut handles from fabric shopping bags + put fabric on pcs of cardboard in the bottom of the tote for sturdiness when storing extra toiletries in closet.
Shoe boxes are awesome containers. They're usually sturdy, & not as horribly colored as cereals. I've kept medications, cables, summer scarves... Cereal box cut on 2 sides only (like a paper holder thingy)are awesome for stacking tops rolled like a burrito. You can see the colors, take one out. I used that for years before I found the right size small drawers. Phone boxes are awesome shallow drawer dividers, think office or junk drawer. Jars are awesome for a lot of grains. Chocolate boxes are awesome for jewellery... As long as a container helps you in your life, use it. The moment it's not used anymore, recycle if needed, give away if it's something that can be reused (think a pretty metallic box of cookies).
Yes! I've glued or taped tgthr tea boxes. Always a good size it seems. I also love the little plastic boxes mushrooms come in and save my free canning jars that spaghetti sauce comes in. I hardly buy any non-food items. By using a lentil-sized amount of toothpaste, adding a handful of water as I shampoo my hair and filling laundry soap only to the line, products last practically forever. BTW, the line on the laundry soap cup is only about 1/8 of the amount that wd fill the cup!
Kallie, great video…also I’m teasing when I say “items aren’t free! “ Lol you had to buy the cereal or Amazon or tv box to get to repurpose or make new storage with them! I liked the cereal box hack and the pantry box. For years my mom has been repurposing her cereal boxes to make magazine holders. They work great and hold up well. She uses tea boxes to make recipe card holders not just for recipes but more for sorting notes or telephone numbers. The index cards are about the same size as the boxes of twinnings teas I have a 1950’s cigar box I don’t know where it came from in which I covered in colourful paper and folded around the lid and use it to store scrap paper and also I’ve used it to keep hair accessories before.
I love these! I've gone years using old boxes from the grocery store or my online shopping to store kitchen stuff, because the shared flats always had just a few huge kitchen cabinets
If you are creating a new organization system it is good to use cheap or free containers to test if you like the set up. You can always upgrade to pretty containers if you want. I like the pretty containers in easily visible areas but I will go cheaper in hidden away areas.
I've been doing this for years - never thought to use the wipes lids! Also, there's a tea bag brand that has a really pretty design inside, I like turning them inside out for sorting small items.
I love love love this! There is no need to buy matching plastic containers or baskets. I like minimalist paik who is an Asian poster and has more ideas like this. Sustainable and clever. Well done!!!
Thanks for sharing these great ideas. I've done this sort of thing for years but learned a few new tricks that I'm going to use because of how clearly and simply you presented these tips. Thanks!
love this. these were all great ideas! i don't get to keep my amazon or other shipping boxes though lol..we have a several special needs felines (love my babies) so as soon as the box comes in, before it's even empty, it's claimed 😂
Great ideas! I had seen the one about folding in the boxes rather than using the tabs to close them in another place. Well-BOOM! Gamechanger! But comment, when you are cutting your boxes, do you not want to cut on top of a sturdy OTHER box or something so you don't cut up your rug??
I have one- don’t throw away those plastic zippered bags that sheets and comforters come in. The smaller ones are great to use to store makeup or as a travel toiletry kits, the big comforter ones can be used to store basically anything from toys to seasonal storage like wreaths!
Yes!!
I use the small ones for small appliances.
I used my sheet bag to store pens and colored pencils
These are great! I only have one caveat. As someone who knows a lot about pest control, roaches are attracted to cardboard. So if someone already has an infestation they do not want to keep boxes in the house. Particularly the shipping boxes as they use a glue that roaches love to eat.
Oh my goodness
I was thinking the same thing
These ideas are fantastic. HOWEVER
I LOVE SEE THROUGH CONTAINERS
Eew, I feel so bad for anyone strugli with pest issues. So stressful and so so gross
Please, do more real budget-friendly content 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 This was a blessing!!!
I agree! In these times of crazy grocery prices, we can't afford to spend extra money, even at a dollar store. I love the satisfaction of turning recycling into something functional.

I just emptied one today. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@CindiTrunkDeseretAcademy youre more than welcome🙂
Same here. I also use old milk cartons and jars to store old oil and grease.
Yeah, I use clothes pins alot. ALSO - sometimes I will buy a grocery store item that is in the size glass container I need (especially large) and once the product is used up, clean the container and repurpose it.

Gross!🎉😅😢
Panty moths will also come into a home in cardboard boxes .
Damn, thank you for the info!

Thank you for the time and effort you put into these ideas. It is SO appreciated for those of us who live in strict budgets 💜
I do use many of these methods that I learned from my mother in law, but loved the bag idea and sponge idea the most. ❤ very helpful.
Thanks for the no cost organizing hacks! My cabinets and spices have green tops everywhere. Mayo lids work well too.
I never get tired of your content! You are real, you are flawed, and I love you!
Good ideas! Maybe I'm the only one, but I haven't seen a clothespin in decades. 😂😂😂 Thanks Kallie! ❤❤
We use them to clip cereal, chip, bread, crackers & whatever bags closed.
I’ve loads of them and our kids friends have asked what they are! 😂😂😂 Our kids are in their mid 20’s and some still ask!
I use them for food bags, to hold grocery bags on trashcan top, and to hold seed packet closed. Dollar tree sells them.
Such great tips! I can hardly wait to try the box top folding instead of trying to use the tabs and have them tear! ❤
I'm so glad you shared this w us! So many of us, including myself, have been brainwashed to believe that having something thts expensive or told that something is better that looks a certain way whn if it's all about being organized it really shouldn't matter, especially if we're only ones thts seeing it mostly 😂 and if we have friends/family complain about how it looks cheap thn they can leave or go and buy the exspensive stuff for me 🤷♀️🤪😁🤣😂
The sponge holder is genius
Love this! If u know how to crochet, u can make a plastic bag dispenser and hang it up. Even baskets of all sizes too ❤
It would probably be cheaper to get a bag dispenser from the thrift store vs buying yarn.
The sock folding is genius! Just finished refolding all our socks this way - it is a space saver, thank you!!
These might be the best ideas I've seen on here! Going to do several of them!
Kallie, you’re such a gem! Thanks for all you do to help others succeed at home. ❤
Great ideas!!
Just need to grab my amazon boxes before i break them down right away, just like you have taught me!!!😅
Shoe boxes are awesome containers.
Awesome!
Fantastic video from start to finish!! Thank you.
The index cards are about the same size as the boxes of twinnings teas
I have a 1950’s cigar box I don’t know where it came from in which I covered in colourful paper and folded around the lid and use it to store scrap paper and also I’ve used it to keep hair accessories before.
The delivery boxes into bin is wonderful
I love these! I've gone years using old boxes from the grocery store or my online shopping to store kitchen stuff, because the shared flats always had just a few huge kitchen cabinets
Also these are great to see if you like that style of organization before investing in better quality items
What ingenious storage hacks! I love these ideas instead of using store bought containers. Another valuable video💚♥❣
The sock folding method is one that my dad used in the military!
Love this! Great way to be environmentally friendly too!
Ma'am, I don't normally follow any organization channels. I love yours!. Thank you!
Those are some of the best $saving tips EVER!
Thank you for showing a creative way to stay organized on a budget. Good job.
If you are creating a new organization system it is good to use cheap or free containers to test if you like the set up. You can always upgrade to pretty containers if you want. I like the pretty containers in easily visible areas but I will go cheaper in hidden away areas.
I love the Amazon box, tote.❤
You, as always, are a genius. Thanks for all you do!💜😊
Love this!!!! Thank you so much!!
Happy 2024!!!
Love this video. Please more of that content
Oh my gosh, thankyou, amazing presentation and so helpful. 😊😊😊
Appreciate free and actually affordable options! 🎉
I love hearing all of your ideas. Some are great the rest are better!
This made my crafting heart so happy!!
Love the hacks with the boxes. We all have those Amazon boxes that seem to procreate LOL
Thanks! Im about to star reorganizing a deep cleaning my home office/craft space. Lots of good ideas here
Thanks for sharing these great ideas. I've done this sort of thing for years but learned a few new tricks that I'm going to use because of how clearly and simply you presented these tips. Thanks!
This is so great. Thank you for making a video like this.
You have unbelievable creativity! Thank you for these hacks! I so need them right now! Absolutely broke but need organizers!❤
EVERYONE needs to see this!! Thank you so much, from a budgeting momma of 4!
SHUT THE FRONT THE DOOR!!! BRILLIANCE!
I just wanted to say I love this channel!❤
Thanks for the sock trick! My sock drawer looks so much more tidy now.
I've already implemented the box top fold and have selected a plastic container for the sponge hanger. These ideas are great! ❤
love this. these were all great ideas! i don't get to keep my amazon or other shipping boxes though lol..we have a several special needs felines (love my babies) so as soon as the box comes in, before it's even empty, it's claimed 😂
Great ideas! I had seen the one about folding in the boxes rather than using the tabs to close them in another place. Well-BOOM! Gamechanger! But comment, when you are cutting your boxes, do you not want to cut on top of a sturdy OTHER box or something so you don't cut up your rug??
