One thing that's helped me with Demoman, which is essentially what you've explained in the video, is to keep in mind that there's a genuine reason why Demoman is in the "Defense" category in the class pick menu. While you can be hyper aggressive, it is sometimes really surprising how much further you can get by being more passive/defensive and just a bit more patient, whether its with sticky spamming, pipes, cornering enemies or those pesky scouts.
This is by far the best demo, even one of the best TF2 class guides on youtube. Even though I have watched SO many competitively focused TF2 videos, I learned so much from this video (being a demo main as well)
I'm glad it was helpful! When I started playing comp in 2020 I noticed right away there was very little up to date competitive content on youtube. Sure you can find guides from like 2014 but the meta has changed quite a bit since then. (looking at you shotgun soldier and scout speed update). I wish players who are better than me would take the time to produce competitive content that values the viewers time instead of just uploading a 30 minute rambling session, but unfortunately that's not really a thing.
1k hour demomain here, such a great video. Despite how oversaturated tf2 content is comprehensive class guides for demoman are shockingly lacking. Demo is a complex class and aside from intutive purely mechanical knowledge aspects like play patterns, mindset and strategies are scarcely talked about in the UA-cam space. I have only one complaint in that you didn't articulate much about how important the class higherarchy mindset is when playing demoman. While the class higherarchy is less important in casual its still a present factor. Risk assessment is such a large part of demoman and its often worth valuing your own longevity and using restraint when playing demoman, the team itself depends on your ability to lock the game down.
I want to say that this is the best demoman guide I've seen at all. With 500+ hours on the demo I never learned to play for him training only aim and jumps. I have long dreamed of a guide that not only tells about weapons and things that lie on the surface, but also how to generally behave in matches. Thanks for sharing your knowledge)
I'm a, well, not so good demo main. I'm honestly really happy to have found this, with hopes that it'll improve my gameplay as demo. Underrated channel.
There are some great Medic and Engineer guides out there, but when I look up Demoman guides all I found was a joke video about trapping the enemy spawn. This is the shit I've been waiting for for years. Thank you so much.
500 hours demomain here. this video is awesome, very well made tutorial maybe even the best one I’ve seen on YT, very clear and concise too. definitely going to come back to this once in a while
All of this is literally known for a somewhat veteran/guy with common sense lol I guess except the sticky pipe sync?!?? Like if you're 500hrs and think this is a good guide , you've probably spent more hours demoknight/hybrid
The Loch n Load has grown on me in the past month (a lot). I was considering updating the section on it since I have been using it over stock now but I was at the point where I just wanted to be done with this project lol. Maybe I'll post a video about it later once I have had more time to play with it! Also yes sticky syncs are really fun. Happy practicing!
Thank you so much mate. I actually got some use out of this, last time i played demo i was absolutely horrible. Putting in some of these tips actually got me doing well :D
Late to the party but thanks I've been wanting a Demoman centered channel or guide in recent times. I feel like I've been plateauing recently and this video helped me out, thanks mate!
I was a pipe main demo before this and im fairly acurrate with them but this helped me learn sticky spamming more proficiently without having to wait a whole ass second for the sticky to blow when a scout is super close
As a longtime Pyro and Medic player, this video convinced me to take my Demoman play seriously. Simply changing my mindset to treat stickies as a primary weapon has vastly improved my experience. Thank you very much! If I could suggest a future video- maybe focus on the grenade launcher? I dont know if it’s your speciality, but I think a video offering visuals of what close-range grenade hits look like (how far you need to lead your shots based on class and distance) could go a long way! Keep being you!
Just started playing tf 2 a month ago, I was in a lobby playing medic, and was always wondering why the demoman on our team was wanting me to constantly follow him, now I understand why due to this video. Thank you!
Thank you for this, I couldn't ask for a better guide to the class I've enjoyed playing in doses but never invested time into because I never played with good positioning in mind. I've begun seriously attempting to improve my skill as Demoman since, and while I'm still pretty amateurish (still getting locked out of Barnblitz last...) I can feel myself getting better with each play session. 15:1 on Snowycoast defense without letting them take the first point feels good.
Ngl Demoman is one of the classes which looks completely effortless to play but is actually weirdly hard for me, especially considering how every Demo i see is a pipe god which snipes scouts.
I've been playing tf2 for over a decade, always been using the Loch n Load, and somehow just now I learn about the -25% explosion radius. Still, amazing video.
i do use rollers to check corners and areas that im NOT going if the other team has some players who are consistently trying to flank - i dont think much about them, can usually get ammo before i'm back fighting, and they usually don't do much. but in the occasion that i hear that wonderful ding as i go, it's perfect. either i'm warning my moving team about a spy (who gets obliterated), or already pushed a scout on the offensive and he's about to meet a nasty end.
Picked up this class a year ago and gave-up bc my k/d's were consistently ass and couldn't land pipes Now I'm 10 hours playtime w/ Demo and can score fairly well This video is very informative and well-done, thank you so much
Ive noticed a good time to use pipes is when the enemy sees you with the SBL out. Quickswitching to pipes will catch them off guard and they won't have time to react dodge to pipes.
Glad I came across this vid. I've been trying to work on playing demoman in casual and it's good to hear a new take on him. I can see the amount of work put into this video as well as its strong attention to details. I also play a lot of medic. I always try to stay on our demoman as much as possible, but you're right, it's rare to find a grenade launcher + sticky demoman in casual (and a skilled one at that).
I like stock and lock n load. Lock n Load is primarily used against buildings. But the damage against enemies as stock is nice because you have a chance to survive. Three pipes is balanced because of how much damage it does against buildings.
Oh don't worry. Medic main here, I Uber Demos a LOT. I know they're incredible when Ubered. Only time I might Uber say... a Heavy. Is if there's a VERY annoying Pyro air blast spamming. Then with the remaining Uber, switch to a Demo or Soldier to take a Sentry out. That said.... So, I mainly play Demoknight. But, I do want to try and play as normal Demo eventually. This video might actually help me with that. Having a good idea on how to play neutral, and when to push offense is a great thing.
I think you should have talked a bit about sticky jumping, just the very basics. I see a lot of Demomans just walking forwards instead of saving a few seconds getting a health pack afterwards. Or when I play Medic I often overheal them when going to the payload/mid/point just for them to run normally when they could go faster.
@@masterblazx Unexperienced medics usually focus on whoever is in front (enemies included) and sometimes even forget to heal. Good medics are a blessing in Casual mode.
casual player here. I really dislike using the sticky launcher because of how it feels and for all my hours on demoman I played grenade launcher with shield, so I could reposition with charges and not be pressured to use the sticky launcher I surprisingly got really good at playing like this. ammo is always an issue and timing is important, and getting uber-ed is a real disapointment for the medic because I lack the ammo in magazine to keep up any kind of prolonged combat this video motivated me to try the sticky launcher. I've not yet done it but I certainly will try
Thank you for all the helpful advice! :D I was very surprised with how well put together this video was, especially for how small of a following you have. Looking forward to seeing more content from you!

oh!!! You made a demoman guide too!! I enjoy playing this class but I struggle a lot with his weaknesses. I love hitting fat pipes but sometimes it feels like they go just inches away from my target. I dont think I have good game sense as well. I geuss I just lean more to a hyper aggressive gameplay. I am looking forward to your future videos
Demo is hard to play and is extremely punishing if you don't have a team to back you up (which is most of the time in casual). If you just play demo more your mechanics will likely improve very quickly so you can land more pipes and stickies and your game sense will also gradually improve. Good luck!
A very unique guide, I was not expecting how prominent the SBL would be. I usually use my grenade launcher over stickies, so to see how much versatility the SBL has over pipes is impressive. Are there any combos that you could pull off with the SBL and Grenade Launcher?
Honestly it's crazy since demo basically has two primary weapons... pipes are already crazy good on their own. As I mentioned in the video you can do a "sync" with your grenade and a sticky which is basically a 1 shot combo (if timed right the opponent is unable to surf your damage). You could also juggle someone with a sticky and then pipe them. The biggest one (and the most reliable one) is using stickies to influence the fight and force your opponent to move how you want them to. This is why soldier and scout are pretty good at countering demo - they have a ton of mobility. There might be more I am forgetting or have not "discovered" yet.
I've played tf2 for years and never gotten into demoman. I started playing a few months ago and now I'm genuinely enjoying it. The feeling when you land consecutive pipes ! But there is nothing more infuriating than being killed by an only sticky spammer. In competitive I understand, but I'm willing to bet that at least half of sticky spammers that claim in chat every time to be "the best demo" in casual don't even know how to use their primary...
I did this when I was new to demo. As a result my pipe aim got better and I hardly used stickies... I guess it would be good if you are already good with the SBL!
i prersonally love to play demoman on 50v50 server, i know most the the tips in this video, my aim just sucks for the airshot but it's so funny to hide behind walls and shoot stickies. i literally exploded a huge engi nest by myself, an dmy team then was able to push forward. i like this class so much edit : good video by the way !
"Demoman is the strongest class in TF2" *Sniper laughs as he casually one shots you from across the map with virtually no counter aside from another sniper.*
@@scarybroccoli lmao good luck getting close to a good sniper as they have good positioning and are surrounded by their teammates. if you try sticky jumping, the sniper will just quick scope you and taunt in your face. A really good sniper is a nightmare that shuts down anyone aside from an even better sniper who can counter snipe him. Demo is a powerful class, but he can only do so much against a cracked sniper with thousands of hours and godlike aim.
Great video as always! Also, you didn't get the stab in that last clip because you were standing and not crouching, I don't exactly know why but you need to crouch to get the stab on these overhead angles.
I have about 50 hours on demoman and I had no idea you could charge stickies for increased range, I thought the single click was as far as they could go, I can't believe this
9:15 "a sticky trap in your own spawn will achieve nothing" Meanwhile videos on an exploit to get into enemy spawn, with people countering by sticky trapping their own spawn
staying alive is the most important thing for demo other than positioning. I practice pipes by going stock + sticky jumper and going on either casual or uncletopia. Being good at your emergency weapon when you cant use stickies keeps you alive for longer and doing more damage. And uncletopia is like a casual upgrade since you face compitent players who strafe and dodge
I played demoknight for most of my demo time, i played normal demonsn for only 5 hours while demoknight is 50 hours!! So i gotta start train hitting pills now
Yeah this is probably true but the loose canon can be rough to use tbh. Your pipes are your last resort weapoh when someone gets up close, and the extra time it takes to charge it feela really bad. Idk maybe I just need to spend more time with the LC
@@scarybroccoli I got ahead of myself, I also wanted to say great tutorial! I sent it to a friend who’s making the transition from Overwatch to TF2 Anyway, the loose cannon is a super fun weapon but I use the iron bomber if I want to do well. I played demoknight for most of my demo time, i played normal demonsn for only 5 hours while demoknight is 50 hours!! So i gotta start train hitting pills now
finally got enough footage smh
Only took 6 months of clipping things lol
Good guide but scatterbrained but so is demo as a classic
Gunslinger is pretty cool sometimes.
To this day I lay awake at night trying to figure out how that wasn't a backstab.
I have steel plating in my back.
If you can get good at sticky+pipe combo, you can get double donks down
Yeah this is probably true but the loose canon can be rough to use tbh. Your pipes are your last resort weapoh when someone gets up close, and the extra time it takes to charge it feela really bad. Idk maybe I just need to spend more time with the LC
@@scarybroccoli I got ahead of myself, I also wanted to say great tutorial! I sent it to a friend who’s making the transition from Overwatch to TF2
Anyway, the loose cannon is a super fun weapon but I use the iron bomber if I want to do well. It’s not great but the Scottish resistance is also much more useful than I expected it would be
@@ShiddyKong converting a OW player to tf2 is a huge W.
Tbh when making this video i forgot entirely about the scottish resistance
@@scarybroccoli it’s really not that great a weapon lmao but it makes you think critically about your traps and stuff like that
He chose to convert after seeing ElMaxo’s Bing Soy video, the social aspect of this game is more evolved and expressive than VR
demoman is so fun
100%
My goat
Huh, this man is spitting facts

With demo explosives: Just do what comes natural.
16:23 Hey is that Background Music from Ultrakill?
I like playing demoman but the grenades can be annoying to use up close.
