I work with therapy and usually say to clients that I don't think you can be too nice, but that you can be nice at the expense of yourself emotionally, economically, physically, or otherwise. Being nice and kind is good, but it must be done in a sustainable way. If you struggle with this here are a few simple techniques I suggest for dealing with people ask for aid or similar: 1. "Let me think for a minute, I'll get back to you". This helps create room to feel if you want to and have excess energy to agree to the request and build courage to say no 2. Switching roles. If the roles were revesed, how would you react? 3. "Yes, but...". If it's too difficult saying no, try saying yes but limit to what degree you will do it. Like "Yes, I can help you move on saturday, but I can only stay for an hour".
