- I've been wanting to try this out for a couple of months now, and I'm so excited I finally had the chance! This is the first time I've used heat in over 5 years, crazy! Anyway, check out how I managed to roller set my thick curly natural hair! Hope you enjoy!

3 tries isn't going to be even close to enough to get it down. I'm dominican so this is kind of our olympics if you may. Basically you have to use a fine tooth comb or a brush and get that hair FLAT on that roller. The ends need to stick to the roller by themselves. Only then can you roll. Roll quick, roll hard, and smooth as you go. No curlies on the roller, tug and smooth! After practice the whole process takes me about 2-3 hours and thats mostly downtime anyway sooo yah.
What I am learning about having long hair while being black is people automatically think of you as being mixed. Something that was never even brought up when you had short hair. Black people can grow long hair. Just know that.
When I had a relaxer, my hair was not short, it fell just past my shoulders. I took good care of my hair and the relaxer did not damage it. I am natural not because the relaxer was damaging my hair, but I wanted to explore what my natural hair looked like. And, I've seen natural hair women with 'blond hair' So stop knocking the relaxed folks. Bottom line: Women can wear their hair anyway they choose and everyone has their own hair journey. If folks want to go natural that's their choice.
With me its only ever other black people that think that... even though my father IS white, I'm positive my hair would be just as long if I had two black parents. What they don't realize is that it's not that our hair CAN'T grow long it's that we won't LET it grow long (because of all the chemicals, heat, etc...)
Spending 7 hours on a hair style is not exactly a time-saving exercise of convenience. lol! She doesn't seem to have a problem with manageability. I agree with your second thought, though. She's showing a variety of styles that aren't harmful to natural hair. Who doesn't like wearing different styles, right? I don't know WTH Naomi James is talking about.
Or maybe she enjoys doing things to make her hair more manageable. Who would watch her videos if she only wore her hair the same way every day? I personally like the various styles she's willing to try and share with us. I in no way think she dislikes her natural. She gets respect from me for even being willing to style that much hair all the time.
Curlformer results are better for SO many reasons! Girl, I can't condone (yes condone LOL) ANYONE spending that much time under a dryer (I can't stand it!!), much less the time it takes to wash AND roll. Oh heck naw! LOL
Most people with this hair length find it easier to rock the stretched styles because it is easier throughout the week and they enjoy the length.Chime (Haircrush) stretches her hair,LHDC stretches hers, & Sistawithrealhair. Her hair is in its natural state! This is simply a style.
Wait. She's THAT pretty WITHOUT makeup? *faints*
I prefer the curl former results. Seven hours is waay too long especially for results your not crazy about. Next roller set you try should be done at a Dominican Hair Salon, Im natural and for some reason my roller set results always come out better when I pay $30 for a wash and set then when i do it at home!
Nap, try doing the roller set from an old twistout. Spray each individual section with water, moisturize, and roll. Since your hair is already stretched, you should get sleeker results and it isn't as much of a hassle as washing and styling in the same day. Happy Holidays! :)
I like the rollerset better than curl former. I loved how your natural curls showed through the rollerset curls. The results were beautiful although I don't think I have the patience to spend 7 hours doing my hair.
Honestly, I love both looks. With the curlformers have the "relaxed" look almost if u just want those bouncy curls without the textured look. With the roller set, it creates an new styles of style having the natural texture look with the straight bouncy curls. The roller set creates an omni texture waterfall, so different. I really love them both. Don't give up on this style!
literally can not. I tried this just now and it took me an hour just to get the first two in -- this definitely takes practice. I'm dizzy and in need of a nap.
I love the texture with the curls! Very pretty! I prefer this to the curlformers because the beautiful texture still shows!
7 hours, yes & that sucks but I LOVE those results! Roller sets were my relaxed go-to & I'm still a sucker for them. Beautiful.
Gorgeous! I think the fact that your natural curl pattern was still present is what really mad this gorgeous. It gave it a extra dimension that made it uniquely beautiful!
"My curls definitely don't quit. They don't play." Lol.
I like the roller set results better because I like looser bouncy curls.
This is sooo pretty! I think the roller set gives your hair a more elegant look & would be perfect for formal occasions. Curl formers are awesome too, but the curls look more casual or laid back.
