    Okay, so I finally gave this a try. Let me just say, it was heartbreaking to brush out all those beautiful Curlformer curls, BUT...the results were sooooo worth it. When I took the twists down, it left me breathless. It was like, "Who snuck into my room while I was sleeping and put (a shorter version of) Whitney's hair on my head?" Haha! I definitely did not expect it to work so well on my hair.
    I was also worried the style would only last one day and then frizz up after that, but no! I had soft, shiny, defined, stretched hair for days with minimum frizz. WOW! I was so in love with my hair.
    I'm about to take the Curlformers out right now and twist my hair again. ;)
    Thank you so much, Whitney!

    I tried this a few weeks ago and it came out SO BOMB! Not to mention it kept my hair from getting tangled for over a week because it was so stretched and smooth. I actually spread this routine out over a week so my hair was styled for about 9 days. Days 1-3 with the curlformers look, then did the flattwist with cute beanie days 4-5, then the twistout for 4.

      FABULOUS EVERY DAG ON TIME! Whew, I thought you changed your mind about the "Balayaaage" and dyed it black again...silly me! Awe I kinda didn't want the "Shirley Temple" curls to go...5 minute flaxseed gel, wow it's that quick, too bad I'm truly lazy in the kitchen! Oh good grief Whitney your hair is just so nice. When I apply my "store bought" flaxseed gel to my dry hair it feels like it's not doing anything and just laying on top but after a day I can see the moisture has penetrated the hair, but I do prefer to use it on slightly damp hair.
      Your smallest instructions are so helpful, thank you because I know better, but I usually pull my twists kinda tight thinking I'll get the maximum stretch and bobby pin the very ends, womp, womp! :(
      OH your results are just FANTASTIC, from the shine, to definition to volume A+++ (yes I just graded her twist out!) I don't wear twist outs but if my hair ever gets to this level of awesome, I might be twistin it out every dag on week! Your tutorials are always TOP NOTCH Whitney, thanks for sharing!
      I don't have any friends on FB(by choice!) but I need to start making some because this needs to be shared!

    Hey ladies!! (and gents!) ;)
    For those wondering, this whole process is actually quite easy! In total, it takes me about 2.5 hours: 25 minutes to cowash, 30 minutes to install curlformers, 1 hour under dryer, 40 minutes to twist! Which is awesome timing for my length, density, and the fact that it's a wash and style in one session!
    It seems like a lot of steps, but it goes by really fast. It's just a lot of detail that I have to explain so the tutorial will be accurate. Give it a try one night, and you'll see how quickly and easily it goes by! Also, the more you do it, the faster you become. I usually do this at night before bed.
    Oh, and the curlformers are just a quicker and easier way to "blow dry" it smooths the hair and gets it as straight as if I were blow drying it, so that when I twist my hair, my natural curls are completely gone and the twist out texture will be more visible and defined. The curlformers aren't for style in this case, it's a tool I use to stretch my hair. If you don't have curlformers, you can blow dry, or stretch a regular twist out over a course of days. Hope that helps any confusion! Xo!

      avgscholar hey girl, don't worry, it will grow back. If I may, a few suggestions.... Alternate btw moisturizing and hot oil treatments, and keep your hair hydrated as much a possible, i spray my twists at night with a little water, apply shea butter, hair milk or a creme conditioner to the ends and then wrap in a satin scarf. Also, a little light oil such as argan or grape seed in the scalp a one or two nites a week. I also do the LOC method once a week. But if you are pressed for time you can just spray your hair with a mixture of water, oil and a little leave in conditioner to hydrate. Last but not least, drink lots of water and take a good daily multivitamin. Blessings!

    I remember when I was a kid my hair was that long.. Ugh if i knew how damaging a relaxer was when I was 11 I wouldn't have let my mom take me to get one. >< But back then I always wanted straight flowing hair (I grew up in a mostly white neighborhood) and I hated my hair cuz it was different.. But now that I'm natural again and I know how to do and take care of my hair I can't help but think about how it would look now if I never got a relaxer. Makes me so sad but I have the patience to get back to that point cuz I know that I have beautiful hair and always have!

      MajesticGirl What do Ethiopian women have anything to do with you or African Americans? Africa is the most genetically diverse continent. Ethiopians are horn of Africans with completely different genetic haplogroups than West and Central Africans. Claim your own, not people who have absolutely no connections with you! Unbelievable. This is what self hate looks like.

      TheFedora42 I completely agree with you, but question.... Considering our heratige has been stripped from us, what would YOU consider "claiming our own" when we dont even know who we are...? "African American" is not a heritage. I know the answer to the question, but I'm curious to know your view on the matter. I'm not being snarky I'm just asking.

      Bob Marlee If you want to prolong it over a couple of days, just wear the curlformer style out and resume twisting the next night! You'll get a couple diff styles out of it that way, but I'm used to twisting my hair this way, so it actually goes quite quickly for a wash and style all in one night!

    • @Naptural85
      @Naptural85  10 років тому +21

      Hey TianaSunshine The curlformers are a quicker and easier way to "blow dry" it smooths the hair and gets it as straight as if I were blow drying it, so that when I twist my hair, my natural curls are completely gone and the twist out texture will be more visible and defined. The curlformers aren't for style in this case, it's a tool I use to stretch my hair. But of course, you can wear it out if you want! Sometimes I do if I don't have time, and then resume the next day when I do have time. This step is one of the main reasons why my twist outs look different now, it's really important. If you don't have curlformers, you can blow dry, or stretch a regular twist out over a course of days

      ***** Try pinning the ends your Curlformer curls with roller clips (the silver ones) to the crown of you head. Place the clip inside the "o" form at the end of your curl, pin it to the crown, and tie the hair with a scarf. The curls literally bounce back, as opposed to wrapped and flattened Curlformer curls. Best part: You'll get a longer wear and stretched curlformer curls. Much love from MS!

    Whitney, you're sooooooo inspirational. I used the mayo/egg/honey deep conditioner with the oil co-wash. MY HAIR WAS AWESOME!!!!
    I'm 6 months into my natural hair journey. I just stopped perming and putting any kind of heat in my hair since my birthday back in March 2014. There's about 3 inches of thiiiiiiiick, curly kinkies underneath....only a tiny bit of breakage so far, in the thickest area of my crown - the Land of Kink. Fortunately, I never liked my hair dead straight, so it looks natural with a twist-out - just really thick at the roots.
    I LOVE it! I'm trying for 2 years before I C.H.O.P. (3 more 6-month stints to go!). Wish me luck! I love your channel.

    Can someone tell me the point of the rollers and the heat she is putting on her hair? She brushed the curls out can someone please explain

    • @candiceyoungblood5189
      @candiceyoungblood5189 9 років тому +7

      Nekeisha Benjamin Her curl pattern is really curly/kinky so she stretches it out with the Curlformers and then does a twist on the stretched out hair. For me, when I stretch out my hair first my twist out is fuller, softer. When I do a twist on my natural curl pattern, my roots stay my original curl pattern while the rest of my hair is the shape of my twist, and my ends are still curly. It's just to create a uniform full twist out. It's like blowdrying your hair to get it stretched out, but instead she uses curlformers to use less heat.

    • @ShauneArnoldEsq
      @ShauneArnoldEsq 9 років тому

      +Nekeisha Benjamin I usually band my hair for one night, and then style my stretched hair on the second night. Same concept.

    I tried it with some modifications. I combed after cowashing and used satin covered roller to stretch the hair. Then I unrolled the hair and twisted it. Then sat under the dryer for 30 min. This is a super stretched, super soft, amazing twist out! Thanks for giving us something new to try.

  • @FitWithCiera
    @FitWithCiera 10 років тому +3

    I wonder if this would still come out the same way skipping the 'curl rod' step and maybe doing jumbo twist under the dryer instead. Seems like so much work lol. Looks good though. :-)

    • @Naptural85
      @Naptural85  10 років тому +7

      Hey ***** ! For my hair texture, it wouldn't be as smooth and the final twist out would be a bit more "crunchy", shorter, and less smooth. So a lot more curl texture would show through, for me of course! But it's still a beautiful look! Not sure what your texture is, but try it both ways and see which you prefer! Xo!

      Thanks JayTheGemini89 ! I guess that's subjective, it's all based on what you're used to! I find it to be really simple and straight forward! I've been doing this for a while now, so I'm used to it. Maybe it's something I've worked up the endurance for? Not sure, but to me it's a really easy process! Give it a try! Xo!

      ***** I also think people dont realize that for coily hair naturals getting your hair "sleek" is more work. It wants to coil automatically. Some coily girls blowdry first then do a twist. If we dont we get a twistout that looks like a stretched wash.and go. THANKS Whit!!!

    • @cbreeze123
      @cbreeze123 10 років тому +6

      Edna Baldwin You're absolutely right about this cause for a while I stopped doing twist outs; it literally looked like my wash and goes. Now I do it on old stretched hair, or blow dried hair. The results are so much better imo:-)

    How do you get flaxseed gel thicker? Mine is never that thick.

    • @Naptural85
      @Naptural85  10 років тому +31

      Hey wildlibra84 ! Just boil it longer! You may need to add a bit more water so that it can boil longer and get that thickness without burning and losing all your product. But the longer you boil the gel, the thicker and more condensed it will become!
